A non-rev passenger’s dream

I never leave app reviews but this app is so amazing I felt compelled to. We were recently scrambling to get out of Honolulu after our plane broke and caused a snowball effect of all the other flights filling up. This app helped us easily and effortlessly ID90 back to the mainland. Since then we’ve become addicted to helping others by submitting loads and gaining credits. This app is extremely helpful and well designed. I do have two minor criticisms though and they both entail working with the newest iOS on an iPhone XS Max. The bottom icons (tips, loads etc) are illegible and hidden with the “swipe up bar.” The same goes for the scroll wheel when adding loads - it’s too easy to scroll and accidentally swipe up switching apps or worse, closing the app. And lastly, at the very top left near the back arrow under the time, if you are using any other app (phone for example) it’s nearly impossibly to hit the back arrow and not the inactive app. This becomes frustrating when you are multi-tasking and trying do things quickly. These are just simple fixes of the UI and would make the app work even more seamlessly. Overall I am very impressed with the robustness is this app and am so thankful something like it exists.

Developer Response ,

Hi there! Wow, thank you for the incredible review and the positive feedback! Great to hear we were able to help you get back home safe and sound! We are looking at improving the app especially for iPhone X Max and XS max users. When we designed the app, these phones weren't out yet and we're going to make some changes in the near future to make it easy to use on all phones! Thanks again, feedback like this makes us more dedicated to making this app even better for all non-rev users!

Multiple flts

I think this is thee absolute best app for flt crew ever!!! It requires us to help each other, what a concept!!! This is the way we should operate! Just one suggestion, that there be a way to apply a multi-leg segment option when it’s time to find the flt info for crew. When someone Send a request and it’s time for u to load in the numbers, we can only submit the load for one flt but what if the requestee has a connecting flt there’s no space for us to enter info for their 2nd segment. We don’t always get to take nonstops. Also can u explain why when I’m answering a request, many times I will hit the request and it opens up as if I got it, but it will disappear seconds later saying someone else got it first. Then why would it open on my screen as if I got it? Otherwise I LOVE STAFFTRAVELER!!!!
Thank you for joining and for your awesome feedback! You can already search for multi-leg flights by unchecking the 'Direct flights only' on the search results screen when searching flights. I wish you many happy flights!

Lifesaver for Commuters

First of all: Don’t expect to get loads on DL. They never respond, or (if you’re lucky) they respond just hours before departure when you’ve already made alternate plans. AA is bigger, and I always get responses from them, so I don’t buy the “They’re just inundated with requests” excuse. With that said, this app is essential for commuters. It has saved my bacon many times. In todays climate of crew shortages and cancelled flights, you need to be able to check changing loads on the fly so you can quickly move to plan B, C, or D to get to where you need to go. Yes, answering requests is very competitive, but if you put the time in you’ll be fine.
Hi! Thank you so much for your elaborate feedback! We really appreciate it! Besides the fact that DL is known to respond slowly, DL members also only get access to the loads 72 hours before the flight's departure. So that is as well a reason why they tend to let your request wait. Glad you are enjoying the rest of the app though. Feel free to message us at [email protected] if you have anymore questions. have a wonderful day! ✈️

Inside Qantas' Airbus A321XLR aircraft: Airline reveals business and economy seats for new planes set to arrive from next year

The business and economy seats Qantas will install on a brand new aircraft type the airline will operate from early next year have been revealed.

Bryant Hevesi

Qantas has provided a glimpse inside its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft which will take to the Australian skies from early next year.

The airline this week revealed the business and economy class seats which will be fitted to the single-aisle planes set to fly domestic routes and some overseas services.

The flying kangaroo said the A321XLR's will have 20 business seats, with the first three aircraft to have 180 economy seats, although further deliveries will have 177.

There will be no seatback screens in either cabin, with passengers instead offered free wifi and access to the Qantas Entertainment App to stream content on their device.

The seats will feature drop down tablet holders for travellers to store their devices on during the flight, with dual USB A&C charging ports at all seats.

Business class seats - with 37 inch pitch and five inch seat recline - will be spread across five rows in a standard 2-2 configuration, and also have a wireless charging pad.

Th economy seats - with 30 inch pitch and 17.6 inch width - will be in the common 3-3 configuration.

Qantas has ordered 28 A321XLR's to help replace some of its ageing Boeing 737 fleet, with the first plane expected to arrive next April.

The A321XLR's are five metres longer than the 737s, with Qantas claiming the "the extra long cabin gives a sense of spaciousness and features higher ceilings and large windows letting in more natural light".

"We've collaborated with Australian designer David Caon to maximise passenger comfort, including new materials and colours to make the cabin feel peaceful and brighter," the airline said.

"The cabin is wider and extra-large overhead lockers offer space for around 60 per cent more bags than the 737s."

The first aircraft will be named Great Ocean Road, with staff to decide on names for the remaining aircraft based around the themes of walks, rivers and roads.

Pilots have already started training in a new simulator to prepare for the new aircraft, which have a range of 8,700km, allowing Qantas to potentially deploy them on short-haul international routes to South East Asia and the Pacific islands.

"Qantas will be one of the first airlines in the world to operate the A321XLR and ahead of the arrival of our first aircraft next year, we've started pilot training and finalised the details of the customer experience," Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said.

"Nearly half of all the customers Qantas carries each year travel on our 737 fleet so the A321XLR aircraft that we've ordered to replace them will be incredibly important for our future.

"The A321XLR is a fantastic aircraft to be part of our next generation fleet, and its range and versatility will give us to opportunity to explore more non-stop routes and operate them cost effectively."

Earlier this year, QantasLink received its first Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with Qantas set to receive Airbus A350-1000 planes from mid-2026 to operate non-stop Project Sunrise flights from Sydney to London and New York.

Qantas Group’s full year results reveal hit in profits

Qantas Group has posted its first full year results with Vanessa Hudson at the helm, with the new CEO unveiling a welcome new addition for flyers.

New details of Qantas’ ’world-first’ plane

Qantas has posted an underlying profit before tax of $2.08 billion for the financial year, down 16 per cent on the year prior.

It had a statutory profit after tax of $1.25 billion for the 2023-24 financial year, which is a 28 per cent decrease.

Its net debt rose to $4.1 billion, which the company said was within the bottom half of the target range ($3.9 – $4.9 billion).

It is the company’s first full year results with Vanessa Hudson at the helm.

The new chief executive described the results as “strong” but acknowledged they were lower, attributing the drop to lower airfares and lower freight revenue, as well as greater investment in customers ($230 million).

Ms Hudson said it was crucial to “get the balance right” between customer and employee satisfaction, and delivering for shareholders, when speaking to the media on Thursday morning.

She said both Qantas and budget airline Jetstar had seen “significant uplift in satisfaction”.

Last year, Qantas posted an underlying profit before tax of $2.47 billion for the 2022-23 financial year and a statutory profit after tax of $1.74 billion – which was a return to profit after three years and $7 billion of cumulative statutory losses.

“Our focus this year has been getting the balance right in delivering for customers, employees and shareholders while building a better, stronger Qantas Group,” Ms Hudson said in a statement earlier on Thursday.

“Restoring trust and pride in Qantas as the national carrier is our priority, and while there’s more work to do, we’ll get there by delivering for our customers and people consistently into the future.”

Ms Hudson said Jetstar, which grew its domestic network by 15 per cent year on year, delivered its highest result with “increased demand from price-sensitive leisure travellers”.

She said Qantas “benefited from increased corporate and resources travel, and ongoing high demand for international premium seats”.

Qantas to dish out extra $500 to thousands of workers

Qantas announced 23,000 non-executive employees, who are already entitled to discounted standby fares, would receive a $500 staff travel voucher.

This is in addition to a $500 voucher provided to employees in February.

Ms Hudson said they were “the heroes behind this result”.

“I speak a lot to customers on planes and in airports, and what I hear and what they say to me is that things feel different,” Ms Hudson said.

“And that is actually a reflection of the incredible work of our people.”

A $400 million on-market share buyback was also announced.

Qantas Group chief financial officer Rob Marcolina said: “As we look into our financial framework we are absolutely always looking at the most efficient way to distribute funds back to our shareholders.

“We have also announced today our intent is that we will be looking at a base dividend as we go into the second half and looking to implement that.”

Ms Hudson added delivering for customers, employees and the business was the best outcome for shareholders because it creates sustainable profit growth.

Qantas to roll out in-flight Wi-Fi on international fleet

International travellers will be pleased to know Ms Hudson confirmed “fast and free” in-flight Wi-Fi is on track to roll out at the end of the year.

Select international flights currently have Wi-Fi but only while flying over Australia.

“We are investing in in-flight Wi-Fi so we’ll see that start to roll out on our international fleet at the end of this year,” Ms Hudson said.

“But we are also investing in new cabin interiors, new lounges and also new features on our mobile app.”

In February, Qantas had revealed its A330, B787 and A380 fleets would progressively be retrofitted to enable connection, and the A330-200LR installation program would be built into the existing heavy maintenance schedule. Installation programs for the B787, A380 and A330-300s will commence from 2025 and new aircraft currently on order, including A350 and B787 fleets, will already be Wi-Fi capable when delivered.

Qantas also revealed on Thursday that pilots had begun training ahead of the launch of Australia’s first “longest-range” Airbus A321XLR aircraft , which will allow for more non-stop routes.

The aviation group will add 28 of these aircraft as it progressively replaces its Boeing 737s over the next 10 years.

The first of the planes is set to be in circulation in April next year.

Mr Marcolina said the new aircraft would open more domestic opportunities as well as routes into Southeast Asia, plus “exciting” plans for direct routes between Perth and India.

Ms Hudson, the group’s former chief financial officer, took over the top job from Alan Joyce in September last year when he brought forward his retirement two months early so the airline could “move ahead with its renewal” under new management.

She promised to put customers first in efforts to repair the airline’s reputation.

Earlier this month it was revealed Mr Joyce would have his bonuses slashed by more than $9 million and that the airline had committed to implementing all 23 recommendations made in its review of key governance matters.

More Coverage

staff travel qantas app

Mr Joyce’s bonuses were withheld amid mounting pressure from investors following a string of controversies, including the illegal sacking of 1700 workers, the selling of tickets on already cancelled flights and allegations of anti-competitive behaviour.

The airline will be pay about $20 million in compensation to customers affected by its flight cancellation policy, after admitting it had misled passengers. This is in addition to a $100 million civil penalty.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) had launched legal action against the airline in August 2023, claiming it sold tickets for 8000 “ghost flights” (already-cancelled flights) between May and July 2022.

As the pointy end of the year heats up for travellers, flyers gearing up for the summer season have one question for Australia’s national carrier.

An Aussie man has revealed the insane reason he’s able to fly business class for free, more than 100 times.

Qantas pilots are preparing for the launch of Australia’s first “longest-range” plane, which will allow for more non-stop routes.

StaffTraveler

Insider knowledge

What is staff travel, what does staff travel mean.

Staff travel is a benefit for (retired) airline employees, travel industry employees, their family members or close friends (often called "buddy passes"). Staff travel tickets can be purchased at a fraction of the costs of a standard ticket, but are only granted if there are unsold seats available. They are used extensively throughout the airline industry.

How to get the seat availability?

What are non-rev passengers?

Non-rev passengers (also referred to as standby passengers or nonrevs) are passengers who fly on discount tickets. These tickets are sometimes called ID90 (for 90% discount) or ZED (for Zonal Employee Discount) tickets. In other words: non-rev passengers are passengers who are not producing revenue for the airline.

See below for the benefits and downsides of staff travel tickets.

Who can staff travel?

People who work for an airline often have the benefit of being eligible for staff travel. Depending on their airline's policy, their family members and friends can join them on their flights for the same, low fee.

Please  let us know  if you have a more accurate estimate.

What are the benefits of staff travel?

Freedom and flexibility! That is how most airline employees would praise staff travel. We can travel the world at severely reduced prices. Also, we can change our plans at any time as staff travel tickets are as flexible as it gets: they're valid for months and can be cancelled for free.

What are the downsides of staff travel?

Uncertainty. If the flight is full, we don't get on board. Often, this is decided at the very last moment. On busy routes, flights may be overbooked for days.

At StaffTraveler, we decided to make your staff travel trips easier and less stressful by getting you in touch with the people who can look up the number of available seats. For the first time, you can accurately estimate your chances of getting onboard, by having access to accurate, reliable flight loads.

Can I staff travel on all airlines?

Depending on your airline's agreements with other airlines, there may be many other airlines that you can purchase staff travel tickets for. Please check with your airline which agreements they have made.

How to book a staff travel ticket?

This depends on your airline. myIDTravel is a popular choice for airlines, but your airline might have a proprietary system. Please ask your airline if you are unsure about booking your staff travel tickets.

Please note that myIDTravel indicates the loads in a funny way, based on smileys. These indications are not exact and have proven to be unreliable. We've got your back: you can request exact and reliable flight loads with our StaffTraveler app.

Where can I download the StaffTraveler app?

You can download the StaffTraveler app in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. We hope you'll like it!

Where can I get non-rev information for the airline that I'm flying with?

Many airlines have their own specific rules and procedures when it comes to ID90 passengers. StaffTraveler has a large database with airline-specific, ID90 related information. You'll find these in the StaffTraveler app and in the online StaffTraveler Airline Notes.
