He's Coming Over: Chris Young announces 2016 tour

Chris Young arrives CMA Awards November 4.

Get ready, country fans: Chris Young is coming over.

Next year, the singer will embark on a tour of the East Coast and select other major markets.

The I'm Coming Over tour kicks off Jan. 21 in Lowell, Mass., and hits 13 cities including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis and New York. The final show is Feb. 26 in Baltimore.

Things have changed since Young's first headlining tour three years ago in support of his third album, Liquid Neon . "We were playing in theaters with 2,000 seats. Now we're in the 5,000-seat range. That's way different. When you're going into small theaters ... you aren't carrying as much production. It was like, 'Hey, we're gonna have lights onstage!' Once you get into arenas and amphitheaters, it's a different story. It's like, 'How much video can we run?' There's a lot more involved in making sure it's perfect and that it's the show I want my fans to see."

Young started to gain a following at 21 when he won the reality TV singing competition Nashville Star . Now, at 30, after four album releases, six No. 1 singles, seven gold and platinum certifications and performances before sold-out crowds in Europe, Australia, Japan and South Korea, he takes a laid-back approach to life. He still speaks in a warm, slow Tennessee drawl and delights at poking fun at himself in conversation.

Young plans to open each night of the tour with enough of a bang to keep the momentum going throughout his 75 to 90 minutes onstage. He'll do that with Underdogs , a song off his new album,  I'm Comin' Home , out Friday.

"I've played it pretty close to the vest in 2015 as far as not doing any of my new stuff in advance," Young says. "I wanted people to hear the actual album version before I started putting it into the show. But this was the exception because it's big, it's very uptempo with double guitars, and it just fits at the top. "

It's also important to end the show appropriately, which for Young means breaking from the spectacular finishers that most artists deliver. "For a long time I closed with Tomorrow , the biggest hit I'd had up to that point," he says. "There's a breakdown chorus that's great for the crowd to sing along. This time, I'm moving it up in my set, and I'm putting I'm Comin' Over at the tail end. There's no video. It's very simple lighting. It's really just the song. But once you get to that last chorus, the audience is singing it loud . The minute I wrote that song, I knew I wouldn't move around much when I performed it. The song lives best on its own."

What happens before the star goes onstage is also critical. On his Liquid Neon Tour, Young made sure customers got their money's worth by bringing his friend Thomas Rhett along as his opening act. This year, the responsibility goes to Cassadee Pope. Like Rhett in 2012, she is a relatively new but fast-rising presence in country music, whose trajectory began when she took first place in Season 3 of NBC's The Voice .

"One of my biggest responsibilities will be how to get everyone pumped up for Chris," she says. "So I have to walk that fine line between being authentically who I am and thinking about what they're going to react to the most.... Chris's fans cover a pretty big demographic, so I just need to look into their eyes when I'm onstage to figure out what they want."

Shooting to fame following his 2006 win of talent contest, Nashville Star, Chris Young (born June 12th 1985) is an American country music artist from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA.

His traditional country style and powerful baritone has gained Young many fans across the spectrum of country music, looking back to the likes of Hank Williams and Randy Travis, moving away from pop-country or country with rock influences which began to dominate the modern scene.

After winning Nashville Star, Chris Young was signed to record label RCA records, releasing his debut single, "Drinkin' Me Lonely" in 2006, from his self-titled debut album. The release reached number 42 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart. From here, Young's success only continued, gaining a top 40 hit with his third single "Voices" from his EP of the same name.

In 2009, Young released his second full length album, "The Man I want to Be," which, as well as his original songs, featured covers of Waylon Jennings "Rose in Paradise" and Tony Joe White's "Rainy Night in Georgia." The single from the bum, "Getting' You Home (The Black Dress Song)" became Young's first number one single, which was followed by another with the re-release of "Voices."

Following a Grammy award nomination, Chris Young had cemented his place in the world of country music. His talents garnered further chart success with the 2011 single, "Tomorrow," becoming his fourth straight number one. The album "Neon" was released the same year, featuring a further number one single, "You."

His fourth studio album "A.M," released in 2013, showcased two top ten singles, "Aw Naw" and "Who I Am With You."Young was selected to act as an ambassador for the CMA Songwriter's Series, which travelled to European countries in an attempt to spread the popularity of country music.

Live reviews

Country singer Chris Young is ever on the rise, so expect to hear big things from this Tennessee-born, 6-string-wielding crooner. Having risen to fame (and a major record deal with RCA Records) in 2006 after winning the TV talent contest Nashville Star, this bundle of energy and good-time country sounds has been making hits, topping the number 1 spot in 2009 with his single ‘The Man I Want To Be’, and last year’s album ‘A.M.’, which features the incredibly catchy singles ‘Aw Naw’ and ‘Who I Am With You’. As well as strumming masterfully on his guitar, Young writes all his own material and sure knows how to construct great country songs, with tell-it-like-it-is lyrics, twangy hooks and beats to make you get your dancing shoes on. When I saw him at a rodeo show in San Antonio, Texas, last year, I had my doubts as to whether a hyped-up TV ‘talent’ could be any good live, and I am happy to report that such doubts were unfounded, and that Young put on a terrific show. He entered the bare stadium stage in a convertible, leapt out and began to play a fantastic 90-minute set of sing-all-the-words, foot-stomping country anthems, with a seemingly boundless energy that emanated back to the crowd, who were loving every minute. If country is your thing, do yourself a favour and don’t miss Chris Young!

Chris Young emerged as the winner of the 2006 edition of Nashville Star and since then his career has been on a steady rise. With the winning blend of his likeable personality and his upbeat country sounds, the singer is assured for big things and by the size of his crowd, they will be there to support him.

There are few singers who look as comfortable onstage as Chris Young and few who seem so happy when entertaining crowds. You can see Young's mood becoming further and further elated as the cheers rise for fan favourites such as 'The Man I Want to Be' and 'I Can Take It From There'. During mass singalongs he is like a giddy child with his trusty guitar in hand.

He also has clear adoration for his tight supporting band who aid him in recreating his sounds and although the acoustic guitar is at the centre the drums and added percussion helps give the music a three dimension state. By the finale of 'Tomorrow' the crowd is in the palm of his hand and he takes a final bow to the last of the rapturous applause.

What a night - Chris seems to be such a warm, humble and funny guy with bucket loads of talent. Don't let the country twang fool you - he charmed the crowd with his versatility and clearly demonstrated that he is more than just a country voice. His set included most of his well known tracks with a few well chosen covers thrown in too. I could have easily stayed for a few more but as always with a great gig, time is the enemy. Before we knew it, he was on the last song! I truly hope that Chris returns to the UK after seeing the warm and very loud welcome that he was given.

If you do ever get the opportunity to see Chris Young live, grab it! You will not be disappointed.

I find it always exciting to see artists with established careers who finally get their First headlining tour on the road. Chris Young definitly brought a strong and charismatic show to the 1ST BANK CENTER THURSDAY NIGHT. From his first song to his last, he spent quality time not only entertaining his fans but he spent the time to engage with them on a great level. He took the time to talk and chat the audience up while being humble and gracious as well. He really tries to keep the audience pleased with little bits of trivia in his chats, including his "Quesadilla's and Beer story".

He is by far one of my daughters favorite artists and he did not disappoint.

FANTASTIC ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! What more is there to say? I heard my all time favorite song of Chris Young’s “Tomorrow” and my new favorite “Text Me Texas” and I got to dance with one of my favorite Suite Holders. I’m not sure if Chris played “Neon” because I had to go to work in a part of NRG Stadium that I couldn’t hear Chris. Chris Young has become the staple of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!!!!!! Chris Young is what I call REAL COUNTRY and WESTERN MUSIC!!!

This concert was great!!My daughter and I had a great time singing and watching all them on stage. The two things that were the most memorable the first one was when Chris Young performed Drowning in memory of Kane Brown's drummer that passed away and he asked us all to get out our phones. Seeing everyones phone lit up was amazing. The second thing was at the end when we got him to sing the song You! The concert was definitely worth it and I would go again.

I throughly enjoyed the concert last night in Kinder. You have a wonderful gift from God in your voice. You seem to be a great person to. Don't ever change.

Only one suggestion: and en core. There were a lot of us that were very disappointed that you did not come back out. Something to think about.

Keep it country! Your doing an amazing job!

This man knows how to entertain. A fantastic night of entertainment. The crowd sang along to all the songs and he seemed genuinely appreciative. First headlining tour in England and all sold out!

If you've never heard of him, check him out. Don't think he'll be in small venues for long.

Want to re live it all again

Randy Travis Pops up at Chris Young’s Final 2016 Tour Stop

Chris Young wrapped his 2016 tour in Oklahoma on Friday night (Dec. 16), and country legend Randy Travis turned up backstage for a visit.

Young's headlining I'm Comin' Over Tour kept him busy for much of the year, with Dustin Lynch and Cassadee Pope joining him for the most recent leg. The tour wrapped up Thackerville, Okla., with a date at the WinStar World Casino & Resort on Friday, and later that night Young posted a picture from backstage to Instagram , depicting a beaming Travis with him and his band.

"Amazing last show of the year and Randy Travis showed up!!! Thanks Thackerville!!!!" Young captioned the post, adding the hashtag, "#ItMustBeChristmas."

Travis suffered a stroke in 2013 that took his ability to walk and speak, and he's been working very hard toward a full recovery since then. After a few sporadic public appearances over the last few years, the country icon stunned fans and the industry at his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October by leading an emotional singalong of "Amazing Grace" at the podium, and in November he took part in an all-star performance on the CMA Awards, singing the closing line of his classic hit, "Forever and Ever, Amen."

Travis also turned up unexpectedly at Charlie Daniels ' 80th Birthday Volunteer Jam in late November to help present a special award . He will be the subject of an all-star tribute concert in Nashville in February.

Young is wrapping up an especially great year that saw him score a No. 1 hit with "Think of You," his duet with Pope. The song scored them a Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

“I am so honored by this morning’s news,” Young said after the nominations were announced. “Cassadee and I have had such a great time together with this song at radio and on tour. Having it not only go No. 1 but also be nominated for a Grammy is really incredible!”
