About Wicked on Broadway
Video & photos.
Wicked , the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”
Know Before You Go
Visually stunning, Wicked boasts a soaring score from Stephen Schwartz ( Godspell , Pippin ) that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good, Tony Award-winning sets and costumes and some of the most gravity-defying moments on the Great White Way. Wicked has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.”
"The most complete, and completely satisfying, musical I've come across in a long time." USA Today Elysa Gardner
"Winnie Holzman's script keeps the gags coming as it cleverly subverts the film that spawned it. Packed with spectacular coups de theatre and magical effects." The Daily Telegraph Charles Spencer
"What a spectacle this is! Keep your eye on the witches. These wonderful girls from Oz are a delight." Newsday Linda Winer
"Built on songs by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the show is steeped in talent." The New York Times Ben Brantley
""Wizard of Oz" fans will be fascinated by all the back stories, answering such questions as "Is Glinda really that good?" and "Where did the flying monkeys come from?" But the best thing about Wicked is its stars, whose talents cast a poweful spell." NY1 Rome Torre
"There are flying monkeys, flying witches and flying scenery, but the musical itself truly soars when one of its marvelously talented leading ladies...unleashes the kind of vocal magic that needs no supernatural or even technical assistance." Variety Charles Isherwood
Frequently Asked Questions
Like The Wizard of Oz, Wicked is the definition of family-friendly. But like the classic 1939 movie, younger children may find it too long or be frightened by the show's flying monkeys, allusions to offstage violence and death of a character. Most children over eight, however, will be delighted by the world of Wicked .
There is no specific dress code at the theatre. For all performances, attire should be comfortable and appropriate for the occasion. Please remember the theatre is air conditioned during the summer months; sweaters are recommended.

The home of Broadway in the Hollywood Area
VIEW UPCOMING SHOWS AT THE HOLLYWOOD PANTAGES THEATRE
In the heart of Hollywood, on Hollywood Boulevard, right down the block from Vine Street, stands the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. It's a fitting location: The Pantages has become one of the greatest landmarks of Hollywood, signifying both the glorious past and adventuresome future of the world's entertainment capital.
The Hollywood Pantages has a history as grand and diverse as the stage and screen fare which audiences have flocked to enjoy there for half a century. These days it's one of Los Angeles' leading homes of legitimate theatre (the five highest-grossing weeks in L.A.'s theatrical history were all shows at the Pantages) and a favorite "location" for tv shows, movies and music videos. In the past, it has been a movie house, with live vaudeville acts between features as well as the site of many gala premieres and "spectaculars." For ten years the Hollywood Pantages Theatre was the home of the glittering Academy Awards Presentations.
While the use of the Hollywood Pantages Theatre may have changed over the years, the theatre does not appear all that different today. After several touch-ups over the years, the Hollywood Boulevard showplace was renovated at the turn of the 21st century to recapture its 1930 look and luxury. When the theatre reopened in September 2000, some 300 people had repainted nearly every inch of the theatre, restored its outer lobby and missing chandeliers, refurbished its walls and prepared it for the new century.

Broadway’s ‘Titanic’-parodying Celine Dion musical is finally coming to London
The extremely camp comedy ‘Titanique’ will come crashing into the West End this Chrismas
For 60 or so years the sinking of the RMS Titanic stood as a horrifying story of maritime disaster that also served as a cautionary parable of man’s hubris in believing it was possible to build a genuinely unsinkable passenger ship.
Then, in 1997, the filmmaker James Cameron turned it into THE GREATEST LOVE STORY OF ALL TIME, in no small part helped by Celine Dion’s chart-devouring enormo smash ‘My Heart Will Go On’. Of course it remains a tragedy in which 1,500 people died, but it is a tragedy now forever associated with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet having it off in a steamy motorcar, plus Celine’s magnificent if somewhat thematically counterintuitive ballad of overcoming adversity.
A sad story, but now also a very camp one, which brings us on to ‘Titanique’. An off-Broadway hit that long sailed on to Broadway itself, the musical – by Tye Blue, Marla Mindelle and Constantine Rousouli – is a parody of ‘Titanic’ (the film) that retells the story from the crucial perspective of Celine Dion, who hijacks a museum tour about the sinking and claims to have herself survived the disaster and had firsthand knowledge of what really went down with Jack and Rose.
The mix of earnest power ballads and cabaret-style parody has been a tremendous hit and now ‘Titanique’ is attempting its own Transatlantic crossing: it’ll be opening at the West End’s Criterion Theatre in December, with a press night after Christmas. Will London have New York’s appetite for this veritable giant iceberg of kitsch? We’ll find out soon enough.
‘Titanique’ is at the Criterion Theatre, from Dec 9. Sign up for priority ticket information here .
