LastPass on iOS 17: Keychain disabled but still opens.

I have an iPhone 15 running iOS 17.0.2. I have installed LastPass as my password manager. The phone is new and all apps are fresh installs - not restored from a backup.

The issue I'm having is this: In Settings --> Passwords --> Password Options, I have deselected Keychain for passwords and have selected ONLY LastPass. Once this change was made I rebooted the phone and returned to Password Options to verify the settings were not reset and LastPass was still the only option selected.

I then launch several apps which require a password and one of 3 things happens:

  • The password option appears above the keyboard and selecting it opens LastPass - expected result.
  • The password option does not appear and long pressing the password field brings up the autofill option which opens LastPass (but LP closes before there is time to search for the login) - Not expected and a case is open with LastPass regarding this.
  • the password option appears above the keyboard but it is NOT the LastPass password option, it merely says Passwords and when selected it opens Keychain ( which was disabled / unselected in the Password Options )

Why is the Keychain being used when the password option for Keychain is NOT SELECTED? Could this possibly be because developer hard coded using only Keychain into their app?

The developer has hardcoded the use of keychain in the app and therefore it is being opened without referring to the selection in password options.

In other words, bad coding practices.

  • Autofill Passwords - Cannot select BOTH LastPass and 1Password, only either/or I currently use LastPass on my iPhone (most recent iOS version). My work just started rolling out 1Password for us to use as well. So I installed that and it is working as expected. My issue is that in Settings > Passwords & Accounts > Autofill Passwords, I cannot set Autofill Passwords to use BOTH LastPass and 1Password at the same time (allowing me to choose which to use on the keyboard). It only allows me to select one or the other (however, it does allow me to still select Keychain with one of the other options). Not sure if this is an iOS bug or some other issue/setting that is preventing it. Others on my team say they can select both, so it has to be something on my end. Has anyone else run into this? • IPad Air, IOS version 13.4. Password Keychain I cannot view my passwords list. When I go to Settings > Password & Accounts, Apps/Websites, I can see the number of passwords in the list. I tap to view the list and it shuts off and brings up my home screen. I used to use this all the time. This feature still works on my IPhone. Wondering if this is caused by update? Thanks for any help! 145 3
  • Autofill password for 1Password not working for iPad Pro (gen 4) running iOS 14.4 This problem was reported but not addressed before so I thought I would bring it back up. I have tried updating the 1Password app, I have rebooted the iPad Pro, and I have made sure that I have AutoFill password “on” and check mark next to 1Password. I am just getting a little tired of copying and pasting, since the whole point of the app is that it autofill. Works fine on my iPhone and on Chrome on my computer. Any help would be great, or just knowing if this is a common problem and I just need to wait for an update. Thanks everyone! 575 1

Thanks for replying. I’ve tried these steps but the main issue is that I have Keychain unselected in password options but the iPhone is still going to Keychain to find passwords.

Why is Keychain still being accessed when it has been unselected?

Hi DelScorcho,

Looking over the details shared and information you see still, it does not sound like this may be working as intended. We would recommend contacting Apple Support to further investigate the issue and determine what to make from this behavior.

Hello DelScorcho,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

These steps may be able to help:

"If an app on your iPhone or iPad doesn't work as expected, try this.

Close and reopen the app

Force the app to close . Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Restart your device

Restart your iPhone  or  restart your iPad . Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Check for updates

To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app,  update the software on your iPhone or iPad .

Delete the app, then redownload it

Delete the app . When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then  redownload the app . Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed."

Additional details can be found here: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Also, when did you first notice this?

This sounds right, but how do you know this? Is there some documented issue somewhere? Is there a link you can provide to some info on this issue?

Many thanks. I don't doubt this is true, I am just interested in following this bug in some kind of formal forum or website, if that's possible.

Bitwarden review: Our favorite free password manager with low-cost premium features, too

elong-headshot.png

ZDNET's key takeaways

  • Bitwarden offers unlimited secure password management for free, with additional premium features available for $10 per year for individuals or $40 per year for families with up to six users.
  • Bitwarden features a simple user interface that is consistent and compatible across multiple platforms, and its premium plan is more affordable than other paid password managers.
  • Some Bitwarden features, like password generation for new logins, are less intuitive than those on other platforms.

When selecting a password manager , you'll probably want to weigh the features you need against how much it'll cost to keep your data secure and have access to it when you need to log into a website or app. Bitwarden already tops our list of the best free password managers , and its paid plans offer premium features at a more affordable price than similar services.

Bitwarden has three account tiers, including an entirely free subscription that does everything you need a password manager to do: create, store, and sync an unlimited number of passwords accessible on an unlimited number of devices, secure sharing and text sending, and some basic security monitoring. A premium account (which costs $10 per year) comes with extras like emergency access, vault health reports, and priority support, and a family account ($40 per year) extends these features to up to six users.

Bitwarden is also compatible with more devices and operating systems than most. In addition to the web vault, there are browser extensions for Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Tor, and DuckDuckGo (on MacOS) as well as desktop apps for MacOS, Windows, and Linux and mobile apps for iOS, WatchOS, Android, and F-Droid. There's also a command line interface.

Also:   The best free password managers: Expert tested

Installation and setup process

To set up a Bitwarden account, you'll need to enter your email address and choose a 12-character (minimum) master password -- this can't be recovered if you forget, so make sure you save it somewhere. Bitwarden also allows you to create a master password hint and check if your chosen password has been revealed in a known data breach.

The first thing to familiarize yourself with is the web vault, which is the most fully featured version of Bitwarden available. You can add individual logins, credit cards, identities, and notes or import data from other password managers or your browser keychain in a variety of file formats (such as .csv, .xml, and .json). The web vault is also where you'll manage security settings like enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) for your vault, changing your master password, and logging in with passkey.

Easily import your data to Bitwarden from other password managers.

After orienting to the web vault, add the Bitwarden extension to your browser, which will enable you to autofill logins and forms, and download the mobile and desktop apps to your devices. Note that to use the Safari and DuckDuckGo extensions, you must also have the MacOS app on your device.

While you can probably get by without the desktop app otherwise, it does allow you to be logged in and switch between up to five accounts at a time (where the web app is limited to one). The browser extensions -- Safari excepted -- and mobile apps offer this same feature, which is helpful if you use Bitwarden for both personal and professional purposes or are also a member of a shared family or team account.

Bitwarden basics

Bitwarden saves and autofills credentials in web browsers and apps, suggesting logins already stored in your vault or allowing you to create a new record. Bitwarden's credential types are limited to logins, credit cards, and identities, and you cannot create a custom item like a passport or medical record unless you store the information in a note (which cannot autofill). Vaults are easy to access with biometrics: Face ID and Touch ID on iOS and MacOS, fingerprint and face unlock on Android, Windows Hello on PC, and system authentication on Linux.

There are a few Bitwarden features that can feel clunky. My vault didn't connect immediately between desktop and browser when I entered a new credential -- I had to manually sync before my login showed up. And where other platforms will auto-suggest and save newly generated passwords in form fields, Bitwarden's password generator requires you to go back and forth between the extension or app and the login page to copy and paste.

Bitwarden uses strong AES-256 encryption and is open source, so its code is available for anyone to review for security issues. The platform is zero-knowledge and your vault can be opened only with your master password, so unless you have emergency access set up with a trusted contact, you won't be able to recover your data if you lose your login. Bitwarden supports several multi-factor authentication options for securing your vault, including email, authentication apps, or FIDO2 WebAuthn credentials -- paid subscribers can also use YubiKey and Duo Security.

For premium users, Bitwarden offers vault health reports, which show passwords that are weak or have been reused or exposed in breach, saved logins for unsecure websites, and missing two-step logins. These reports are only visible in the web app, and those on the free tier can only see usernames that have appeared in data breaches.

Unique features (and how well they work)

Bitwarden Send allows users to securely share data (and files, for those on premium tiers), even if the recipient doesn't have a Bitwarden account, via text, email, AirDrop, or other method of messaging. Send is available in all apps and extensions, and you can set up expiration and deletion dates, access counts, and passwords to keep your data from being accessible to just anyone or for too long. While you can share individual vault items with other Bitwarden users if you set up an organization, you cannot do so outside of the platform.

While most password managers have a built-in password generator, Bitwarden can also generate unique usernames in all of its apps and extensions. Instead of using the same simple username or your personal email for every login, you can create a plus-addressed or catch-all email or a random word (depending on the site or service's requirements). Bitwarden also integrates with email alias services like SimpleLogin and Fastmail.

On its premium tier, Bitwarden has an Emergency Access feature, which lets you choose trusted contacts who can access your vault if needed. Trusted contacts can have either viewing or editing (takeover) permissions, and access will automatically be granted after a configured wait time if you have not approved or rejected their request. This may be helpful if you are incapacitated or in the event you lose your own master password. Note that your trusted contact(s) must also have a Bitwarden account.

Finally, premium users have access to an integrated authenticator, which generates time-based one-time passwords (TOTPs) for multi-factor logins, in lieu of third-party authentication apps. Bitwarden's integrated authenticator will generate and autofill your TOTPs, which you can also view inside the vault record or the verification code section of the mobile app.

ZDNET's buying advice

Bitwarden stands out with its free tier, which easily meets the needs of users looking for a highly secure tool to create, save, and fill strong passwords with unlimited storage and syncing. A paid subscription also offers many benefits at a low cost compared to other premium password managers, with emergency access, additional multi-factor authentication features, and more robust security monitoring. Bitwarden is an especially good value for families, with a premium plan coming in at less than $7 per person, per year.

lastpass doesn't autofill safari

Anon102531 (Customer) asked a question.

Recently (maybe with the 4.92 version update?) I noticed starting last pass opened up a blank window (see screenshot). I'm on a Mac (12.3.1). The safari extension doesn't seem to work so well either anymore (autofill works but only after clicking "fill" from menu icon). I also have to login to the Lastpass App each time I open it. I wonder if the pop up is an authentication window not displaying properly? Any idea what's going on? I uninstalled and reinstalled but still same. I've had to resort to using Chrome again (extension works fine there).Blank pop up window

We've now confirmed that all 2-factor authentication attempts are successful with the newest LastPass app for Safari.  If you haven't already, please check for updates and let us know if you see any more issues.

Thank you.

There seems to be a lot of the users responding to this thread indicating that the problem may be associated with 2FA.

I do not have 2FA enabled and have never enabled it, so 2FA may not be related to the problem.

Just sayin....

Anon102531 (Customer)

Update: I completely uninstalled (AppCleaner) Lastpass App and reinstalled it. Looks like the LastPass App has even updated to version 4.93, but still this crazy little blank window still pops up.  When I sign in to Lastpass and close out of the app and Safari, the blank window appears when starting up either Lastpass or Safari... and I'm signed out of Lastpass on both. I can close the blank window, sign in to the App (which signs me into the extension), but the process loops again once I close out of them. Major pain....

Just started experiencing this issue after updating my Mac OS X and Safari.

  • Computer - Apple iMac27
  • Mac OS X - 11.6.5
  • Safari - 15.4
  • LastPass - 4.94.0

Extension no longer functions.

Appears as though I must use the LastPass.app on my Mac, which I never had to do before.

The app has problems, such as not logging out after set number of minutes - a no-no in my opinion.

Support only appears to be "versed" only with portable devices / phones and not computers.

Very frustrating.

If anyone else is still looking for a solution, I just used Time Machine to restore version 4.92.0 and that fixed it for me.

I can't remember what I did yesterday but I think this started with 4.88 and has gotten progressively worse.

Mac OS 12.3.1, Safari 15.4.

When I used to start Safari, so long as Safari didn't auto-disable the LastPass extension, I would be good to go. Now, I start Safari, and I get the blank popup window. I have to close it and start the LastPass desktop app, log in, and then the extension in Safari seems to realize that it needs to start. It's greyed out until I start the LastPass desktop app.

Even when the extension is running, there is usually a looooooong lag time between when I click it and when it finally coughs up the password. It's much faster just to copy and paste from the desktop app.

Super annoying, please fix this ASAP.

Same here on new MacBook Pro with M1 chip.  Running OS Monterey 12.3.1.   Also use 2FA.  Only happens in Safari, but if I right click in the username field, the options will show up, however they still don't fill the field.

Chrome works just fine.  These last several months I've noticed LP behaving worse than usual.  I may switch to another password app if they don't resolve this latest issue quickly.   That trouble will be worth it compared to LP's ongoing problems.

GREAT IDEA!

I also reverted the MacOS app (in the Applications) folder to 4.92.0 using Time Machine. This they also reverts the version of the Safari plugin, and indeed: the "..." panel in Safari also shows passwords again.

I just couldn't get it to fill passwords yet, but I managed to fix that as well. In addition to clearing Safari cache, I also "destroyed all sessions". You can do this from Account Settings - General - Advanced (all the way in the bottom).

In Chrome I'm still using the 4.94.0 plugin, but that seems to be no problem.

Good idea to run an older version!  Did a quick internet search and found an older version I could download for the Mac...4.86.

Uninstalled 4.94 and installed 4.86 and problem has disappeared.  That blank pop up window that happens in 4.94 must be the 2 factor auth prompt...the same window popped up in 4.86 it was the same size, but wasn't blank and I was able to put in my 2 factor code.

I guess I'll just run 4.86 until there is a fix.

I have the same issue  (Big Sur 11.6.5 and LP 4.94.0 (1249), Safari 15.4). Blank window pop up of course but in fact, adding new items using the LP App also hangs (exits with an error: "This is taking longer than usual"). Basically the MacOS APP is not working at all (it doesn't sync either; any new passwords or items added using Web interface or iPhone do not show up in the MacOS App). I have to pretty much use the Web interface on my Mac. The iPhone APP works fine.  On another Mac, on which I don't have the most recent Big Sur update installed or LP updated to the latest version, it continues to work.

I talked on the phone with customer support and they said that it is a known issue and they are actively working on a fix. They couldn't give me a definitive ETA for the fix (but said it might become available in about 2 weeks!)

Since I see the problem is 3 weeks old and widespread, I'm looking for options.

Well, the work-around above is effective until Safari auto-updates the extension, causing LP to update to the broken version. I don't think there's a way to turn this off in Safari any longer.

I called LogMeIn. The rep was pretty evasive, but aware of the issue. I explained that they have 7 pages in this thread of people complaining and some moving to 1Password and other competitors. I also said that this has been going on for over a month (1.5. now, I think). He couldn't see anything other than it would be a week or 2 until the update comes and that they are aware of the issue with Safari! Basically, the rep seemed disinterested and said he had no work-arounds. I suggested that someone should be in this forum updating us. He was passing that along, but clearly it's not a propriety since that was days ago!

I downloaded v4.68.0 from this site:

I'm having this same issue on a 2018 Mac Mini running macOS 12.3.1.  The desktop app would also keep opening additional "tabs" even when the vault was open.  I tried signing out and back in.

I do have the LP 2FA enabled using the LP Authenticator app.

I deleted the app and emptied the trash, but opening Safari still opened a LP blank window (but it seems to have stopped after a few more launches).

After reinstalling the desktop app, I opened it and the vault opened, but the app kept opening additional blank windows (annoyingly stealing my cursor focus).

I have tried signing out and back in and have the current 4.94.0 version of the app.

It seems to work fine in Edge and Chrome - just not Safari or the desktop app.  It doesn't have this issue on Windows (although I can't run Safari on Windows any more since it's no longer supported).

Of course yes.

Yes, 2FA is enabled. It's worth noting that I have a Lastpass family account and another family member does NOT have 2FA enabled. They use the same mac computer (different user account) and don't have this problem as far as I can tell.

yes I have 2FA enabled.

Disable MFA and use another browser or the Mac OS Vault to kill local sessions, to force all the security aspects to reset. It seems MFA is causing some permissions conflicts with version 4.94 in Safari, that will be fixed in a (hopefully near-) future LastPass update.

Sure, disabling MFA makes LastPass a little less secure, but it's only temporary, and you can change your master password to something Uber-complex, and store it in Safari's passwords (again, its just temporary). If you do this, though, make sure your computer login is something adequately complex for where and how you use your computer, and that your iCloud/AppleID login is both adequately complex and has 2FA enabled.

Last night I switched to BitWarden. The BW free version works far better than LastPass without the UI issues  @AntonioAcunaR  mentioned above. The BW UI is a bit plain, but the utility is higher than LP.

I've been a LastPass Premium user for a long time, and I plan to pay for BitWarden if I don't see any issues in the next few days.

I called Lastpass support and this is a known issue, introduced by 4.94 and it is being worked on. The only workaround is to open your vault and copy and paste from there til it is sorted .

v. 4.68.0 seems to be working for me also. Thanks  @dave241  !

I just tried 1Password, and I think I'm going that direction. LastPass has been great, but the persisting horrible experience on Safari / macOS with the M1 MacBook is a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the many years of good service. Bye for now.

I reverted to an older version of the app (used an older .dmg file from my Downloads folder) and that seems to fix it. The extension shows the version as 4.94 in Safari->Preferences->Extensions but the (web) app is older (as per Lastpass->About) and it seems to work for me. No blank popup from the extension. The passwords seem to be syncing across devices (which was also not happening when the app was 4.94).

CANCEL THAT!!!!! IT STOPPED WORKING....AGAIN!

Same issue, and has been not working for days!!!

I'm assuming it's more features that have been added than security. Anyway, if I can't access my passwords, I'm more likely to reset them to passwords that I can remember, which is highly insecure. I also assume it's only temporary until a patch is out. The rest of my system is updated to latest security updates, and my master password is good, and the vault is still encrypted as before, so I'm not overly concerned about the security updates for a short while.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS???? I still have to open the password as if editing and manually copy usernames and passwords and paste in login screens!

This has gone on way too long. Whenever you guys break something it takes forever to get them fixed! It's been WEEKS now. This is wasting so much time!

Well... I spoke too soon. Changing any password entries does not work. It spins for a while and then exits with the error: "Hmm... this is taking longer than usual". We might have to just look elsewhere for a new password manager.

👏🏻THAK YOU! YES! Confirmed but also have the Safari button working now. Here's my added input:

  • Cleared all Safari history
  • Disabled 2FA
  • Removed 2FA for LP from Google Authenticator
  • Quit Lastpass, then Quit Safari
  • Restarted LastPass, then Restarted Safari
  • Set up 2FA for Google Authenticator again (NOTE: may have done this before re-launching Safari)

I'm ONLY seeing the blank Safari box if there aren't any passwords to fill in.

I want to note that it's outrageous that GoTo has left us hanging with NO suggestions, updates, or information on progress. This is embarrassingly terrible support and had me considering reversing the charge that I JUST paid. I held out hoping for some support. <OK...deep breathing exercises>

Can we .. please get a fix for this? It's been weeks.

Monterey on an M1 MacBook Pro here.

Sounds great  @DanDem  !

4.95 does not correct the errors for me. I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of the Lastpass app. It seemed to work as expected again until I closed the app. Once re-opening it, the dreaded blank window reappeared. The Safari extension does seem to "work" but you have to login each time you open/close Safari (and the blank window still appears too). Safari logs you out every time you close it. Looks like you all need a little more testing...

I'm sorry but none of us are able to reproduce the blank window after upgrading. We've tried exiting out of safari, closing the LP mac app, etc. Can you please try clearing the cache and exiting and trying again? I'm sorry you are having this issue and we will continue to try and recreate, but it appears that 4.95 has fixed the majority of issues so it's unclear if maybe it is something environmental. Please feel free to share your setup as well as if you have 2FA enabled. Thanks

It works now. Then if I close the app I get the blank page again but if I use the Log In from the last pass menu it works again.

@DanDem  I can confirm what others are reporting. I've emptied caches and restarted the computer and restarted Safari and LastPass multiple times. I'm using the Big Sur 11.6.6 and Safari 15.5.

BLANK BOX: Logging into LastPass causes the blank box. Restarting Safari also causes the blank box. Restarting Safari requires users to log back into Last Pass through Safari even though the main app is already logged in...then I get the blank box.

FILL: Further, the grey notification in the fill field will not allow me to fill the login info. I can use the contextual menu or the fill prompt in Safari's LastPass extension icon, but the grey notification's "Fill" does not work. <---CAN OTHERS CONFIRM THIS ISSUE?

@DanDem , this is still not working. Monterey 12.4, Safari 15.5. See @asfesq comment above for what I'm still seeing.

For a little more info, once I log into the LP app and finish 2FA, everything works, sort of. So long as I leave the LP app open, I can open/close Safari and the extension works (note, I have to fill from the menu bar LP icon. I right click the grey "...|" in the field itself and click Fill and it does nothing). Once I close the LP app, the problems start. That's when the blank window appears. That's also when Safari extension stops working. Once LP app is closed, the blank window appears and the Safari extension goes grey (and clicking the icon gives a blank drop down window).

  • The "blank window" still appears. Easiest way to reproduce: Close Safari and Mac App, then launch Mac App. It will bring up the regular login window, and a separate blank window with a "-" in title bar. There are many more open/close situations where the blank window appears, but this is the easiest way to reproduce.
  • Both Mac App and Safari-plugin always require login again after close.
  • Autofill doesn't work using the "in-field" icon with the [...] and the number of available credentials. It does work using the Safari-plugin button in the menu-bar and then selecting the desired credentials.
  • macOS Monterey 12.4

Safari 15.5

  • Lastpass 4.95

I had Google authenticator enabled (Enabled=Yes, Permit offline access=Allow). If I disable it, all problems seem to be gone!

I just set up Lastpass Authenticator instead of Google Authenticator. That also seems to work, though I do not prefer that, because all my other 2-factor authentication is in the Google Authenticator.

I was already debating: switch to Chrome or switch to another password manager. But I think we're getting to the essence of the problem! Please see if you can fix this in 4.96 and let us know here. 😊

Looks like release 4.95 fixes the problem.

Confirmed that it appears to be fixed in 4.95.0 *only after* removing Google Authenticator and switching to another (I chose Microsoft Authenticator).

4.95 on Monterey with Yubikey 2FA is still broken in all the ways. (blank window with - in it where YubiKey authentication used to happen, Safari plugin button just for decoration, etc.)

As a bonus, I also now have a nice "Upgrade" button in the search bar of the app, and under my username, it claims I'm a "Free User".

Seems like more non-LP 2-factor authentication apps are having problems.

I agree these issues really take a long time given the number of users potentially impacted. At the same time, best we can do to get the issues fixed is provide the necessary information here: what do you experience, what is your setup, what did you try already. Let's help  @DanDem  help us. 😊

Ok, so I finally set up LP authenticator since others seem to be working with that and 4.95. After setting up LP Authenticator and logging in and authenticating against LP instead of Google Authenticator, everything seems to be working for me...finally!

I'd suggest anyone having trouble still, authenticate with LP rather than Google and see if that works. LP worked for me.... just have to have yet one more authenticator on my phone, oh well.

Lastly,  @DanDem , your developers need to test against Google Authenticator (I was using Authy).

I can say that for me it's been mostly fixed. It's about where it was before all the problems started a couple months ago. It's never worked perfectly, even before LogMeIn bought it. Clicking the ... in a field to fill it isn't working. In the past it was a 50/50 shot depending on the site. Same with Autofill when visiting a site, though I do have several sites where those fields may have multiple to choose from. In that case, sometimes it would Autofill a particular username/pw and other cases not in the past. At least if I click on the Safari Plugin, it works. So far every site I've tried. Or at least as well as before all the major problems started.

I have 2FA with Google Authenticator. I didn't have to do any kind of voodoo with it to make LP work. Nor any other weird restart Safari, reset Safari, clear Safari, restart the computer, etc. I didn't have to do anything other than just upgrade to 4.9.5. I did do the whole "reset" Safari ( I really wish Apple to put that back in) recently in order to "fix" a different unrelated issue. So every webpage I've been visiting recently I've had to re-login.

With that said, while the app itself keeps me logged in, I do have to click the ... in Safari to login to the extension after quitting Safari. I also restarted the computer and the same behavior is there. When restarting Safari, the blank window with the ... in the menu bar still pops up when the app starts.

Moving to a different authenticator is a non-starter. We should NOT have to switch authenticators as a work around for LastPass being poorly maintained. I'm sure ppl here are relieved that they finally did SOMETHING, but it's been nearly 2 MONTHS and almost no communication the whole time...now we get an update that doesn't work right.

I'm being patient and hoping that this is corrected, but if that doesn't happen in the next few days, I'm reversing the payment I just made for another year (since services are not being delivered) and switching to 1Password where I'll be happy to continue to use Google Authenticator since THAT has not been the issue.

I just installed and reinstalled 4.95 and so far it is working for me.  And I use Google Authenticator.

After re-boot, blank window problem is gone.

Greetings, again I'm sorry some of you are still experiencing issues. I also want to thank everyone for all the details on environments and authenticators. It has been instrumental in diagnosing an issue related specifically to using google authenticator and the app being closed. We are working on a fix and release as soon as possible.  Thank you

lastpass doesn't autofill safari

nicom (Customer)

how is this marked 'solved' when it isn't and a fix hasn't been released?

the safari extension is very slow and frequently buggy compared to the chrome plugin.

Also the LP osx app is also slow and buggy (hangs on opening or gets stuck in authenticator loop)

Im looking for an alternative PW manager that plays nice with Mac OS

Thanks for the update,  @DanDem  !

I wanted to report that when...

  • removing every last piece of LastPass from my system (using Find Any File, which is a great app by the way 🙂)
  • reinstalling version 4.95

...the problems persists with Google Authenticator, and is gone with LastPass Authenticator.

Great that a fix is on the way. 👍🏻

With the new "fixed" version of LP, new issue has developed. In some website login screens, the LastPass icon no longer appears in the Username/Password fields. And going up to the menubar and selecting the login credentials does not populate the User/password fields. I literally have to cut and paste to get that info in the fields.

After a reboot, I still got the blank window with a dash in it. Then I selected to log out of the app, quit it, quit safari, opened LastPass app, and logged in. I'm not optimistic that this will last, but it's now filling passwords for me in Safari, and the plugin button is no longer for decoration. LP app was still showing me the "Upgrade" button, and said I was a Free User, but after editing a password, it now displays correctly that I'm a Premium User.

I don't know that I'd call this fixed, but it's at least less broken now.

LP Version 4.95 seems to work for me (but there were some issues at first, see below). I am still using Google Authenticator and didn't have to make any changes. Safari Version 15.4 (16613.1.17.1.13, 16613) MacOS Version: 11.6.5.

After I updated LP,  it worked fine immediately. But then after I logged out of LP and tried to login through the extension, it just won't do anything. The window was not blank. It will accept password but still showed login menu asking for password again. It seemed like it wasn't connecting at all. So I disabled the extension (Safari->Preferences, uncheck Last Pass) and then re-enabled it. Then it started working. Keeping my fingers crossed... and hoping it was a temporary glitch.

This process seems to be working for the most part:

1) Download LastPass for Safari Manually (which is not an obvious link - look for "Download" in tiny print at the bottom)

2) Quit LastPass

3) Quit Safari

4) Run AppCleaner (note: preferences are deleted)

5) Install LastPass

I haven't figured out all of quirks, but it's nearly back to normal. I did turn back off "Automatically fill login information" - I don't know why this would be on by default.

In Safari, the Caution symbol seems to be up most of the time now. Here's what the Support site has to say about it. Note that the Caution symbol appeared on the Lastpass support site too!

Please update your LastPass to the latest version. The blank popup problem is fixed.

If the performance is too slow, try copy/pasting your credentials directly out of the vault instead, or consider using an alternate browser that may interact with your vault faster.

I was getting a blank box when LP found the new update. That's gone after updating.

NEW issue... when I launch LastPass, I'm getting double-boxes for the authentication...

I just played around a bit with LastPass 4.96 using Google Authenticator (MacOS 12.4 / Safari 15.5):

  • Blank window with "-" in title continuously popping up: ✅
  • Remembering login status in Safari plugin & MacOS app: ✅
  • Form fills (both using plugin button as with in-field icon): ✅

It seems everything is fixed for me. Will report back if I run into something.

@asfesq  : I also bumped into this, but I think this is how it's supposed to work. The MacOS app and the Safari plugin are "two devices" as far as LastPass is concerned. The one in the back in your screenshot belongs to the Safari plugin, and the one in the front belongs to the MacOS app.

If you decide for both to "trust device" then they end up in the Trusted Devices list separately. The suggested device names from LastPass also differ: "Mac OSX" for the Safari plugin and "Webkit Mac OS" for the MacOS app.

Thank you,  @luuk1982  - I'm actually seeing this when Safari isn't even launched. Here are a few more pictures. Launching LastPass causes both windows to pop up. If you put the code into the Google box first, My LastPass Vault says the code is wrong and there's no way to continue (see below). Getting out of the the dialog causes LastPass to quit. If you put the code into the My LastPass Vault first, then you can put the authenticator code into the Google box and all works fine. 🙄 LastPass shouldn't be doing this.
