The 2010-built Seabourn Sojourn cruise ship is the second of Seabourn's older boats, with sisterships Seabourn Odyssey and Seabourn Quest . On each of the three vessels is installed the biggest Spa ever created on a luxury cruise ship.

The vessel (IMO number 9417098) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 311027100) and registered in Nassau .

History - construction and ownership

Seabourn Cruises is a top-luxury (all-inclusive) company founded in 1986 and headquartered in Seattle WA . Seabourn operates on global itineraries, ranging from the 7-day Caribbean to 100+day Around the World voyages. Since 1998, Seabourn is fully-owned by Carnival Corporation - the world's largest passenger shipping company. Seabourn is a signature travel brand and a major player on the premium-cruising market, competing for head-on with Silversea and RSSC-Regent .

The 450-passenger ship Seabourn Sojourn is line’s second new-class ship that accommodates only 450 guests. At 32,000 GRT Sojourn and her sisters are the smallest built new vessels by any of all major cruise lines and feature the highest ratio space-per-guest in industry. Sojourn offers excellent, comfortable staterooms, the biggest luxe spa at sea, and an in-stern marina full with kayaks and speed vessels. There is also an onboard atmosphere which is cultured yet also quite informal.

While largely the same as Odyssey cruise ship (the first in Seabourn's newly designed trio) and identical to Quest (released in 2011), Seabourn Sojourn is the cruise line's enhancement on an already-outstanding concept. It achieved the feat simply by tweaking bits and pieces. The spa features were the largest beneficiary of the line's experience with the first vessel, that has an additional spa sun deck zone replacing some of the pretentiously expensive private villa spaces. In The Restaurant, the vessel's stylish major dining venue, an experiment with communal tables - intended to foster sociability - hasn't been replicated on either Sojourn or Quest ships. However, the group bar-height seating concept is accessible in its more casual Colonnade.

Decks and Cabins

Seabourn Sojourn staterooms (225 total) are in 15 cabin categories. The largest are the GRWG-Grand Wintergarden Suites (1180 ft2 / 110 m2 including the 220 ft2 / 20 m2 terrace). These are actually 2 connecting cabins (WG-Wintergarden Suite plus V4-Veranda Suite) with connecting balconies.

All staterooms are in suites categories and have luxury hotel amenities like separate sitting-sleeping areas, a walk-in closet, electronic safe box, smart HDTV (with free on-demand movies), iPod docks, minibar, refrigerator.

Most staterooms are Veranda Suites (sized 300 ft2 / 28 m2 plus 65 ft2 / 6 m2 balconies). Penthouse Suites are spacious (435 ft2 / 40 m2 with 100 ft2 / 9 m2 terrace) and with bedrooms separated from lounge areas (with dining tables and comfortable armchairs) and powder rooms. Grand Suites are two-bedroom and with a glass-walled Solarium (whirlpool bathtub and lounge bed).

The boat has 11 decks , of which 10 are passenger-accessible and 7 with cabins.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

The Grand Salon is Sojourn’s main showroom which can accommodate all passengers, though it seldom does so because a variety is available. Cooking demonstrations, movies, lectures, and other interesting gatherings are held there in the daytime. In the evening, live music for dancing gives way to comedy, vocal production shows, classical recitals, cabaret performances, and more dancing. The Seabourn Square is an innovative living room which replaces the reception lobby and provides a welcoming lounge with comfortable sofas, cocktail tables, and easy chairs.

The Club is a lively lounge on Seabourn Sojourn offering daily tea service. It’s popular for dancing to live music and pre-dinner drinks. Later the DJ spins dance music. Another terrace boasts two whirlpool spas and a plunge pool. The Spa is the largest spa on any luxury ship, featuring six treatment rooms, thermal area with large hydro-pool, sauna, dry float, and steam rooms, well-equipped gym, motion studio with Thai massage area and Kinesis Wall, and a full-service salon.

In 2017, the ship offered a unique Alaskan cruise itinerary program with departures from Vancouver BC Canada and Seward/Anchorage Alaska .

Sojourn is also Seabourn's " world cruiser " as each year the boat has scheduled 100+ days long global voyages that group in a single itinerary some of the most popular port cities and scenic travel destinations around the world. Due to the Coronavirus crisis, Seabourn Sojourn was paused for 2+ years, rescheduled to restart operations (in Europe-Mediterranean) on June 6, 2022. The cancellations affected the ship's "World Cruise 2021" (141-day from Miami to Barcelona), the entire Europe 2021 program (Baltic-Mediterranean) and "World Cruise 2022" (145-day from Los Angeles).

Seabourn Sojourn Wiki

Seabourn Cruises Sojourn ship is the newest of all three vessels providing all-inclusive "big yacht cruising" luxury vacation experiences. Her sisters are the fleetmates Odyssey and Quest . The three vessels have been produced under the same cruise ship design. When the Seabourn company launched them, it bragged that this vessel design will be the "game-changer for the luxury segment" of the cruising market. Traditionally for all ships in the Seabourn fleet, all passenger cabins (all are suites) have private verandas.

The Sojourn ship's christening ceremony took place on the 4th of June, 2010 in London England . It was widely commented that weather was unusually warm and shiny- far from being common to London. A curious fact is that for the christening of the Odyssey ship, the weather in "sunny" Venice Italy was terribly rainy. The godmother of Sojourn is Twiggy - an undoubted fashion icon of the 1960s.

The maiden voyage began on the 6th of June. It was a Northern European cruise from London with ports in Baltic Sea (Scandinavia) and Iceland. That year was a cause of concern for Iceland cruise travellers as the country posed them with some volcanoes-related issues. A volcanologist was invited onboard Sojourn to share some of his expert knowledge with the Inaugural Cruise passengers.

Seabourn Sojourn is among the top-luxury World Cruise ships offering each year an Around The World itinerary. It includes numerous exotic ports of call in Asia, Australia, South America, USA, Caribbean, Africa, also Transatlantic crossings, Panama Canal and/or Suez Canal transits.

Seabourn Sojourn refurbishment 2018 review

The ship's last drydock was in January 2018 (at Freeport Bahamas ). The 6-day-long refurbishment project was designed and completed by Trimline. The company employed 150 workers to work on the ship. Trimline specializes in interior refurbishment works. Its services are used regularly by Seabourn Cruises since 2015.

The Sojourn ship's 2018 refurbishment included general maintenance works, as well as cabin upgrades, The list of updated/renovated onboard venues included Colonnade Restaurant (deck 8), Observation Lounge Bar (deck 10), The Club disco (deck 5), Grand Salon Theater (deck 6).

During drydock refurbishment 2015, deck 10's aft "Spa Terrace" area was remodeled into 4 new Penthouse Spa Suites (new cabin category PS). Spa Suite passengers now have unlimited access to the Spa Terrace relaxation area. They are also served by a dedicated spa concierge throughout the cruise and enjoy top-luxury spa amenities, among which a large marble bathroom.

World Cruise 2026 (Seabourn Sojourn)

In November 2023 was announced Seabourn Sojourn's World Cruise 2026 titled "Ring of Fire: Hidden Gems".

The 129-day itinerary departs from Los Angeles on January 6th (2026) and visits 63 ports/destinations in 14 different countries, spanning ~28000 nautical miles (~51860 km/32220 mi).

Signature regions of the route include the South Pacific (Australia circumnavigation), Japan's islands, and North Pacific crossing to Alaska (Glacier Bay NP).

During the Pacific Ocean crossing from the USA to Australia (LA to Sydney NSW) the ship stops in Hawaii (Honolulu), French Polynesia (Bora Bora, Tahiti), Auckland NZ (overnight). While circumnavigating Australia Sojourn stops at 14 ports, including Sydney and Melbourne where are scheduled overnight stays.

In Asia are visited Hong Kong China, Hualien Taiwan, as well as the maiden calls to Japan's ports Akita and Miyako, while in Tokyo the call is overnight.

Prices started from US$ 79200 pp with double occupancy.

Around Africa Voyage 2024 (Seabourn Sojourn)

In April 2023 Seabourn opened for booking Sojourn's "Grand Africa Voyage" starting on November 30, 2024.

The originally planned 90-day itinerary (roundtrip from Barcelona ) fully circumnavigated Africa transiting the Suez Canal . However, in 2024, due to the Red Sea crisis (Houthis' missile attacks on ships), Seabourn modified the itinerary to avoid Red Sea. Among the canceled visits were ports in Tunisia (La Goulette-Tunis, Sousse), Malta (Valletta), Israel (Haifa, Ashdod), Egypt (Alexandria, Suez Port, Sharm El Sheikh, Safaga), Oman (Salalah).

World Cruise 2023 (Seabourn Sojourn)

On February 12, 2021, were opened for sale Sojourn's 140-night/141-day "Seabourn World Cruise 2023" ("Extraordinary Discoveries") and Seabourn Quest 's 79-day "Grand Voyage 2023" ("Grand Americas, Amazon and Antarctica").

Seabourn Sojourn's 2023 World Cruise crossed 2 oceans (Pacific and Indian), also the Atlantic (along Africa's coast - Mombasa Kenya, South Africa/Cape Town, Durban, Dakar Senegal, Casablanca Morocco), South Pacific (Papeete Tahiti, Australia/Sydney-Melbourne-Fremantle, Easter Island, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Cape Verde).

The 140-day voyage departed on January 6, 2023, from Miami and ended in Barcelona.

The itinerary visited 61 ports/destinations in 32 countries, with 10 port overnights and extended late-evening departures in 16 seaports.

World Cruise 2023 segments ranged from 21-day to 81-day.

Full cruise prices started at USD 67000 (~EUR 56200) per person with double occupancy.

Seabourn World Cruise 2022 (canceled)

In mid-September 2020, Seabourn announced Sojourn's World Cruise 2022.

The 146-day "World Cruise - Extraordinary Horizons 2022" itinerary (Los Angeles to Piraeus-Athens, January 11 through June 6, 2022) included 72 ports/destinations (28 countries on 5 continents) and featured 20 port overnights and 21 late-night port departures.

The westbound voyage's signature destinations included Hawaii, South Pacific (Islands, Australia, New Zealand), Asia (Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, India, Arabia), Africa (Egypt), Europe-Mediterranean.

However, in August 2021 the company postponed the ship's restart date in 2022 (from January 11 to June 6) with which the 145-day "World Cruise 2022" was effectively canceled. Seabourn also announced that as an itinerary, Voyage 2024 will replicate Voyage 2022, with bookings to be opened in October 2021.

Exclusive events planned for Voyage 2022 included Evening Onboard Battleship USS Missouri (January 20, in Pearl Harbor Hawaii/from Honolulu), Dinner at Stone Sculpture Museum and Gardens (March 24, in Keelung-Taipei Taiwan/Yangmingshan NP), BBQ Dinner at Adaaran Prestige Vadoo Resort (May 14, in Male Maldives), Surf Beach Barbecue Party (at Koh Kood Beach Resort Thailand), Evening at Ephesus (June 4, from Kusadasi Turkey, with a classical concert in the ruins).

Seabourn World Cruise 2020

Sojourn's World Voyage 2020 had scheduled visits to 62 ports and featured unique shipboard entertainment, including themed deck parties, special musical productions, and enhanced enrichment programming. Developed by Belinda King Creative Productions (Northampton England), the onboard entertainment program (made exclusively for the world voyage) featured "An Evening with Tim Rice" (Sir Timothy Miles Bindon Rice - English author/theatrical lyricist), "Ruthie Henshall & Norm Lewis" (Gala Dinner show), Charl du Plessis Trio (piano-bass-drums), CH2 Guitar Duo, Soweto String Quartet (South Africa), Filip Wojciechowski Trio (Polish jazz band), Wouter Kellerman (South African flutist/composer) and His Band, Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga (Filipino singer/actress), Rhonda Suzanne Burchmore (Australian entertainer), Rita Rudner (US comedian).

Shipboard parties were themed on the visited region/destination and featured live performances by local artists. Smaller deck parties included "Farewell USA" (upon leaving Miami), "Opera Under the Stars" (with Venetian masks) and "Roaring 20s Speakeasy" (with specialty cocktails). Themed dinners (at The Colonnade) were also with resident artists and local entertainers. Seabourn Conversations (enrichment program) had listed speakers like John Creighton (NASA astronaut), Zelda La Grange (Nelson Mandela's secretary) and Sir Alan Collins (former British diplomat).

Next table shows the ship's 144-day "World Cruise - Extraordinary Destinations" (full-length itinerary) as ports sequence and port times (arrival/departure).

Prices started from ~USD 67000 per person (double occupancy Seabourn Suite/window cabin).

Alaskan cruise itineraries

On June 1, 2017, with Seabourn Sojourn, the company operated its first cruises in Alaska (since 2002).

Sojourn's Alaska Cruise 2017 program included a series of one-way and roundtrips leaving from Canada and Alaska-USA.

The following table shows the "inaugural" 25-night/26-day roundtrip Vancouver itinerary (themed "Exploration Of The Last Frontier") as ports sequence and times.

Suite prices started from around USD 400 per night.

In 2017, Seabourn offered a series of 11-, 12- and 14-day long Alaskan voyages. The unique itineraries combined the region's most popular ports, some of which are rarely visited by cruise vessels. All deals were inclusive of professionally guided tours (sea kayaking and Zodiac landings) led by world-class expedition teams.

The grand cities of Europe were designed with town squares. You can find them in Venice, Paris and Prague. This welcoming space where neighbors gather to socialize, where restaurants have outdoor seating and concerts are held is also onboard the Seabourn Sojourn . Seabourn Square is an inviting living room space where passengers gather in the morning to sip their morning cappuccino and in the evening to gather before heading to the dramatic Restaurant 2 or to make plans to head to the casino later in the day. The ship also has the innovative Seabourn Marina, which allows passengers to explore the water even when the ship is not in port. This Marina acts as a jumping off point for kayakers, snorklers and windsurfers.

Welcome aboard the Seabourn Sojourn, which hosts The Spa at Seabourn — 11,400 square feet of pure heaven over two decks. This jaw-dropping spa is the largest of any ultra-luxury vessel, and offers Thai massages, a full-service salon, a motion studio with Kinesis Wall, gym, dry float, sauna and steam rooms, and a thermal area with hydro-pool. The Seabourn Sojourn seven decks of terraces, including the open-air Sky Bar, Patio with s beach-style pool, two large whirlpools, and the casual bar and grill. Not to be outdone, the Observation Bar pours celebratory libations and panoramic views. Want to practice your putt? Head to the nine-hole putting green at The Retreat. The boutiques aboard the Seabourn Sojourn offer just about anything you forgot to pack, and the Seabourn Square is a welcoming lounge with friendly staff, treats, and espresso. Hungry? Enjoy an exquisite meal at the Restaurant, Restaurant 2, or The Colonnade before heading to the Grand Salon for a cabaret performance.

The Observation Bar is a stunning lounge with equally stunning panoramic views. Early Risers’ Coffee and Tea is served here every morning, and piano music makes it a great choice for drinks and conversation before and after dinner.

Seabourn’s innovative “living room” replaces the conventional reception lobby with a welcoming lounge filled with comfortable sofas, easy chairs and cocktail tables. In the center, versatile Guest Services Specialists sit discreetly at individual desks, ready to assist with pursers business, advice and guidance, shore excursion tickets and just about anything else.

The fold-out water sports Marina can de deployed when the ship is at anchor or in some locations. The Marina provides a platform from which guests can enjoy board sailing, water-skiing, banana boat rides, pedal boats and kayaks. There is also a stainless steel mesh enclosure that permits protected swimming in the sea.

Occupying a terrace overlooking the pool deck below, the Sky Bar is a popular place to gather for drinks in the open air. Enjoy warm ocean breezes and cool, refreshing cocktails with friends and fellow guests.

The Colonnade is a more casual alternative with indoor/outdoor seating, sumptuous buffets and daily specials for breakfast and lunch. The Colonnade serves regionally-themed, bistro-style dinners with table service nightly.

The Grill focuses on updated versions of iconic dishes. Guests setting foot inside the elegant dining room will be treated to table-side preparations of Caesar salad and ice cream sundaes as well as a range of other steakhouse favorites like Lobster Thermidor and creamed spinach, presented a la carte. Spread over a string of seven hills, the city offers a variety of faces, including a refreshing no-frills simplicity reflected in the people as they go unhurriedly through their day enjoying a hearty and delicious cuisine accompanied by the country's excellent wines.

A Coruna, Spain

Day 2 will be spent at leisure at Sea.

You will then arrive in A Coruna in the morning of Day 3. The largest Galician city with a culture uniquely its own, a rich folkloric tradition and its own language, A Coruna has preserved a heritage of monuments and ancient buildings, among which are Romanesque churches and a Roman lighthouse. Its most beautiful and original feature is perhaps the characteristic façade of its houses, which are completely covered by mirador windows.

Gijon, Spain

This ancient port city on Spain’s verdant Atlantic coast has a history stretching back some 3,000 years. From its humble beginnings the city has grown to become an important port city, retaining its old historic fishing village Cimadevilla with its picturesque cobble stoned streets and old-world architecture remaining a main tourist attraction.

Santander, Spain

Cruising the Gironde Estuary and Bordeaux, France

Stretching from Pointe de Grave in southwest France around 50 miles up to the city of Bordeaux, the Gironde Estuary is the largest in Europe, formed by the merger of the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers just below Bordeaux. The estuary’s width varies from 2-7 miles, and its shores include some of France’s most treasured wine-producing lands. On the Left Bank are the Medoc and Graves regions, while the Right Bank includes the Libournais, Bourg and Blaye regions. Islands passed in the Gironde include the large Ile de Patiras with its vines and a lighthouse, Ile Sans-Pain and Ile Bouchard. Ile Paté is privately owned and contains a ruined 17th century fort. The small Ile Verte, Ile du Nord and Ile Cazeau are reserves for migrating birds. Ile Margaux is planted with vines and is part of the Medoc wine region.

When you think of Bordeaux, first and foremost – it’s wine that comes to mind. And no wonder, with 60 appellations and 7,000 winemakers, the city is the capital of a region which is home to some of the oldest vineyards and finest wines in the world. As well as being hub of the famed wine-growing region, Bordeaux is also known for its Gothic Cathédrale Saint-André, its 18th- to 19th-century mansions and notable art museums such as the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux. Public gardens line the curving river quays. The grand Place de la Bourse, centred on the Three Graces fountain, overlooks the Miroir d’Eau reflecting pool.

La Rochelle, France and day at Sea

An important harbour on the Bay of Biscay for over a thousand years, La Rochelle has housed naval fleets ranging from the crusading Knights Templar to the German U-boat fleet in World War II. The Vieux Port at La Pallice is still a scenic highlight, and the U-boat pens are still on view. Nearby is Les Minimes, Europe’s largest pleasure yacht marina. A majestic cathedral and a well-preserved Old Town are well worth exploring. The city also has a long history of producing fine porcelain faience. In the surrounding region, visitors may enjoy scenic boat rides on the shaded canals known as Venise Verte, the Green Venice, while a short causeway also connects the town to the Ile de Ré. Others prefer to head to Cognac, for a tour and tasting of the spirits produced by the local vineyards.

St Malo (Mont St Michel), France

Cowes, Isle of Wight and day at Sea

The Georgian harbour town of Cowes has been the home of international yacht racing since 1815 and is famous for Cowes Week, the world’s largest and longest-running sailing regatta. Once a favoured retreat of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Osborne House still retains a large collection of their royal possessions, photography and art. A short walk along the seaside Esplanade is Castle Cowes, currently the home of the Royal Yacht Squadron and built by King Henry VIII in 1547. Its 17 artillery pieces served to protect the Isle of Wight against an invasion from France.

Zeebrugge, Belgium

Portal to the fairy-tale charms of Bruges, an almost unbearably romantic medieval town laced with canals. One of the best ways to enjoy the town is to ride the swan-dotted canals on a boat tour. Or stroll around and pop into any of the open buildings to absorb the confectionary decoration. Speaking of confections, the town is justly famous for its fine Belgian chocolate. They even have a museum dedicated to the Flemish invention of thinly cut crisply fried potatoes that earned the inaccurate misnomer “French Fries!”

Robert Moore

Robert Moore is one of Britain’s most experienced foreign correspondents, having covered conflicts and politics around the world for thirty-five years, reporting from more than eighty countries. His reporting from inside the mob that stormed the Capitol in Washington DC on January 6, 2021, won him and his team more than twenty international awards, and was widely acclaimed as one of the greatest scoops of recent years.

Robert began his career in Moscow covering the fall of the USSR, and then spent five years in Israel, covering a succession of wars in the Middle East, including in Gaza. He is the author of a bestselling book on Russia’s Kursk submarine disaster, which was made into a Hollywood film starring Colin Firth.

Robert has reported from the United States for the past five presidential elections for Britain’s main commercial television network, ITV News. His recent series of four documentaries have tracked the aftermath and implications of the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol. He has been a guest lecturer at the Reuters Institute at Oxford University, Columbia Journalism School, and Harvard Business School. Robert lives in Washington DC.

Rory Stewart

Rory Stewart served in the UK Cabinet as Secretary of State for International Development, and before that as Prisons Minister, Minister for Africa, Minister for Development, Environment Minister and Chair of the Defence Committee. He ran against Boris Johnson for the leadership of the Conservative Party in 2019. Sarah Churchwell is Professor in American Literature and Chair of Public Understanding of the Humanities at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, where she directs the UK’s national festival of the humanities, the Being Human Festival. Simon Mason

Simon Mason is a writer of fiction. At first he wrote books for adults, then books for children, which grew up at roughly the same rate his own children grew up, and now he is back writing books for adults again. In addition to his fiction he has also written a work of non-fiction, The Rough Guide to Classic Novels.His latest books are crime thrillers featuring a mismatched pair of detectives in Oxford.  The first, A Killing in November (shortlisted for the Golden Dagger) was a Sunday Times crime book of the month, and so was the second, The Broken Afternoon. He has pursued a parallel career as a publisher. From 2012 to 2018 he was Managing Director of the children’s publisher, David Fickling Books, where he worked with many wonderful writers, including Philip Pullman, whose book of essays Daemon Voices (2016), he edited. He is currently a ‘lector’ on the Royal Literary Fund’s ‘reading round’ book group scheme.

Sharmaine Lovegrove

Sharmaine Lovegrove is the Publisher of Dialogue Books, the UK’s only inclusive imprint, part of Little, Brown Book Group and Hachette UK. Dialogue Books is a home for a variety of stories from illuminating voices often missing from the mainstream. Sharmaine was the recipient of the Future Book Publishing Person of the Year 2018/19 and is inspired by innovative storytelling, and has worked in public relations, bookselling, events management and TV scouting. Louise Minchin is most famous for her twenty-year stint on BBC Breakfast's red sofa, but she has also been the main news anchor on the BBC News Channel and the BBC's One O'clock News and presented The One Show, Five Live Drive, Real Rescues and Missing Live. Her television career has also seen her participate in a number of reality TV shows including ITV's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Channel 4's Time Crashers and the BBC's Celebrity MasterChef.  Louise has also written non-fiction titles,  Dare to Tri  and  Fearless , and she was Chair of the Women's Prize for Fiction 2023.
