It is a major attraction of Kashmir, ferrying hundreds of people to and from the Apharwat Mountain.Gulmarg Gondola is divided into two phases. Phase 1 starts from Gulmarg Gondola and reaches Kongdoori Station at an elevation of 2,990 metres. Every hour, it transports around 1,500 people to a height of 3,100 metres. Upon reaching the top, you can take part in various beginner-friendly skiing runs near the station.Moving forward, Phase 2 links the Kondoori Mountain to the Apharwat Peak. It ascends to nearly 4,000 metres. This phase transports 600 people per hour to the mountain to let them enjoy a 30-minute trek to the top. On the ride, you will see panoramic views of the Line of Control (LOC), the stunning Nanda Devi, and the Pir Panjal Range. Besides the scenic views, the Gulmarg Gondola offers horse riding and snow skiing activities as well.

It sits atop a plateau in the Shivalik belt and remains shrouded by a thick canopy of green pines and dense woods. Cut by the pristine Chenab river, Patnitop has mesmerising natural charms that leave you awed. It has a number of verdant valleys and vast, empty fields that are now being dedicated to camps, making camping one of the most coveted activities here. Travellers looking to engage their adventurous side can go trekking and hiking as well.
There is a charming legend associated with Patnitop. It is believed that a pond existed amidst the lush green pastures of the area, and the princess of the ruling kingdom used to bathe in it every day. Thus, the pond that was called 'Patan da Talab', or the Pond of the Princess, greatly influenced the name of the place. The hill station is also home to three freshwater springs whose cold water is believed to harbour medicinal properties.
Lying on the outskirts of Patnitop are the towns of Kud and Batote. Kud is popular for patissa, also known as soan papdi, while Batote is known for its high-quality kidney beans, known as rajma in Hindi. Situated almost 112 km from Jammu and 47 km from Udhampur, the hill station of Patnitop falls in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

How to Reach
The Jammu Civil Enclave Airport also known as Satwari Airport locally is the nearest airport to Patnitop. Major airlines like Air India , Spice Jet and Indigo, fly to and forth from various cities in the country to Jammu. After reaching the airport, one has to travel for approximately 110 km by road to reach Patnitop.
You can both choose to drive to Patnitop or simply hire a cab. Either ways, the gorgeous view of the slopy hills is worth the road trip. It takes 2-5 days to reach Patnitop from any city in India, depending on various other factors. Driving on the rugged roads can be exhausting and, hence it is advisable to hire an experienced driver who can drive your there.
Udhampur and Jammu Tawi are the closest railway stations and is the cheapest way to reach Patnitop from any city in the country. There is no direct train to Patnitop and one has to take a different mode of transportation, like a cab or a bus after reaching either of the railways stations.
Getting Around:
Touring around this beautiful hilltop can be done by foot, taxi, bus or even horse backs. Travelling long distances on foot can be tedious; taking a taxi in this case is advisable. Share taxis often ply to different tourist spots. One can travel by horseback as well, which is especially enjoyed by children.

"A Summer Hill Resort"
By far the most popular of Jammu’s hill resorts, 87 Kms from Katra, Patnitop (2024 meters) is perched on a beautiful plateau across which the Jammu – Srinagar highway passes. It comprises of several meadows enveloped by thick forest of Deodar and Kail trees and affords peaceful walks amidst pine groves, beautiful spots for enjoyable picnics and breathtaking views of the Chenab basin and th Pir Panjal range beyond. For solace one can visit th beautifully located Nag Mandir. Other activities include horse rides and short treak into the surrounding hills. One can also drive through thick forest 12 Kms downhill to Batote, an old hill station also known for apple orchards, Amar Cheshma and other springs. From here one can also visit the Dam site of the Bagliar Hydro – Electric Project 10 Kms away, with the permission of the project authorities. In winters (January – February), the snow covered slopes of Patnitop provide opportunities for varius snow games including amateur skiing and sledging. Visitor facilities at Patnitop include good quality accommodation in hotels guesthouses, the JKTDC’s tourist bunglows, and recreational facilities in the Patnitop Club. Accommodation for youth and students is available in the Youth Hostel. The JKTDC’s luxury huts self contained timber cottages tucked away amidst pine trees provide an idyllic ambience for a quiet and memorable stay surrounded by sights and sounds of nature.
"Mini Gulmarg"
The most exciting feature of the beautiful resort of Sanasar (2079 meters), 19 Kms west of Patnitop, is a sprawling cup shaped meadow, 1 surrounded by gigantic conifers, which has been developed into a 9 – hole golf course. Besides enjoying exciting pony rides amongst the groves and other smaller meadow, one can also take treks up the surrounding hills from here. Sanasar is also ideal for paragliding, while Natha Top on way to Sanasar affords scenic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. For those desirous of experiencing a quiet stay surrounded by the tranquility of nature, there are several self contained huts and a Tourist Bungalow managed by JKTDC at Sanasar.

3. Billoo Ki Powri
One of the most unique and interesting places to visit in Patnitop is Billoo ki Powri. This place has around 270 steps that are carved out of rock. This is a staircase that connects a place called Dawariyai. The steps were carved on the orders of a king of Chennai, and no one knows the exact year. However, the steps are carved with great precision and show the remarkable craftsmanship of those skilled artisans who created this unique marvel.
4. Sky Viewpoint
The Skyview Ropeway in Patnitop is one of the highest gondola rides in India. Skyview operates the ropeway and a one-way ride takes 20 minutes. The gondola ride is one of the biggest attractions in Patnitop. It offers panoramic views of the valleys, snow-clad mountains, and forests. Besides this, you can also go for zip lining tours, hiking, camping, and tube sleighing.
5. Sankhpal Mandir
Sankhpal Temple is a very old Hindu temple that is built on top of a hill. This is the only temple that is on the hill and it is a very scenic sight.
