First half was great, second half not so much. Instead of playing Los Lobos tunes, which was the reason I went to see them, had to suffer through grateful dead and almond brothers jams. This is a really great and talented band and I'm bummed I didn't get to hear enough of their own music!

As always, Cary Morin put on a fantastic show! His masterful fingerstyle guitar playing and engaging storytelling had the audience from start to finish!

Los Lobos was incredible also! I never tire of the mastery of David Hidalgo on just about any stringed instrument. A great night of music!

Best 4-Day Los Angeles Itinerary for California

Today I want to share my 4-day Los Angeles itinerary with you. The City of Angels is one of the most popular places to travel in California, and you can discover a lot of it if you have several days to explore. From Hollywood Boulevard to Downtown LA, coastal beaches, and famous theme parks, Los Angeles has a variety of things for visitors to do and see. Read on for my itinerary. I’ve included an interactive map with all the spots I recommend as well.

4 Day Los Angeles Itinerary

4-Day Los Angeles Itinerary

Is 4 days enough in Los Angeles? Yes, it definitely is. The best thing about a 4-day Los Angeles itinerary is that it allows you sufficient time to see the big sightseeing attractions and get a feel for the local side of the city.

LA and the surrounding county span a huge area, and having several days in town will allow you to experience both the urban highlights and the coastal gems.

Whether you’re interested in seeing the main sights, heading to the beach, shopping, dining, riding roller-coasters, or seeing filming locations from your favorite Hollywood movies, you’ll find no shortage of things to entertain you while you’re visiting this part of Southern California.

Hermosa Beach bench

My itinerary for 4 days in Los Angeles covers a range of activities and experiences. It’s the perfect guide for first-time visitors and those who haven’t been to LA in a while.

You can use it as a template and adjust it to fit your travel style and preferences. If there’s something specific you want to do or see, you can add it in wherever you want to.

Like my itinerary for 1 day in Los Angeles , my guide to spending 2 days in Los Angeles , and my itinerary for 3 days in Los Angeles , it will give you an introduction to the city and make you want to come back again.

Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles

Where to Stay in LA

If you’re spending 4 days in Los Angeles, there are plenty of places you can stay in and around the city. Whether you want to base yourself downtown, in Hollywood, on the beach, or inland, there are plenty of hotels , apartment rentals, and other types of accommodation to choose from.

My top pick for a place to call home-away-from-home for several nights in LA is the STILE Hotel . It’s in a central downtown location and it has great guest rooms. If that sounds good, you can book a room here .

If you want to check out more options, you can see some of the most popular hotels in Los Angeles here . There’s no shortage of fun places to stay in LA for every travel style, taste, and budget.

United Artists Theater, Downtown Los Angeles

My 4-day Los Angeles itinerary starts at Grand Central Market in Downtown LA (DTLA). This 30,000-square-foot indoor food market has been a landmark since 1917. Open 7 days a week, it’s the city’s oldest and largest public market, and its huge range of stalls offers a variety of global cuisines to choose from.

Grand Central Market is one of my top picks for food markets in California. You can get all kinds of delicious things to eat here. Whether you’re in the mood for a breakfast sandwich from Eggslut or pastries from Bastion Bakery, you’re bound to find something that will fuel you for the coming day.

There are plenty of drinks here, too. You can get your caffeine fix at places like G&B Coffee, and cold-pressed beverages from The Juice. They’ll help give you energy for your first day in LA.

Grand Central Market in LA

Downtown LA

From Grand Central Market, continue your 4-day LA itinerary by walking around DTLA. There’s a lot to do and see in this part of the City of Angels, from museums to bookstores, performing arts venues, and iconic filming locations. If you want some direction, you can book a guided tour of Downtown LA and go around with a local expert.

One of my go-to things to do in DTLA is ride Angels Flight. This unique funicular near the market opened in 1901, and it’s often called “the world’s shortest railway”.

Bright orange in color, it carries passengers up a steep 1-block incline to the top of Bunker Hill. You might recognize Angels Flight from movies like La La Land and TV shows like  Perry Mason .

Angels Flight

At the top of Angels Flight you’ll find cultural landmarks like The Broad, The Music Center, Ahmanson Theatre, LA Opera, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and renowned architect Frank Gehry’s whimsical Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Back near Grand Central Market you can see places like the Bradbury Building. Famous movies like Blade Runner were filmed in this landmark five-story edifice. Dating back to 1893, it’s amazing to see its atrium full of ornate iron walkways, elevators, and stairs.

A couple blocks from there you’ll find yourself at The Last Bookstore . Housed in a former bank, it’s a huge shop with an interior punctuated by white columns and filled with books, boutiques, and creative installations. It’s worth going in to browse the titles and admire how they’ve turned works of literature into works of art.

DTLA bookstore

Other noteworthy spots downtown include Los Angeles City Hall (it has a 27th-floor observation deck), the heritage Los Angeles Theatre with its flamboyant Baroque-style design, and Pershing Square, which features a contemporary purple bell tower.

The Original Farmers Market

When it’s time for lunch, you can continue your 4-day Los Angeles itinerary by driving to The Original Farmers Market. This historic spot is home to a collection of restaurants, shops, and stalls selling food in a covered outdoor area. It’s one of my favorite places to get a quick bite in LA.

Hollywood Boulevard

After eating, head to Hollywood Boulevard for the early afternoon. Highlights of this famous thoroughfare include the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Chinese Theatre, the Capitol Records Building, the Dolby Theatre, and the Pantages Theatre. If you want to, you can take a bus tour to see all the best places in one go.

Hollywood Boulevard signs

When you’re done exploring Hollywood Boulevard, continue your Los Angeles itinerary for 4 days by making your way over to Griffith Park and up to Griffith Observatory.

The latter is an iconic landmark on Mount Hollywood. It offers panoramic views of everything from the Hollywood Sign to the skyscrapers in Downtown LA, the local hiking trails , and the Pacific Ocean. It’s been used as a filming location for movies like Jurassic Park and The Terminator as well.

Arts District

You can soak up the views or take a tour of Griffith Observatory , then continue your 4-day itinerary for Los Angeles by going to the Arts District. This hip area by the river is beloved for its creative enterprises, galleries, restaurants, and nightlife scene.

Los Angeles restaurant patio

My top pick for a pre-dinner drink in the Arts District is Death & Co. This stylish New York cocktail bar has a speakeasy feel, low light, and creative drinks. It’s the perfect spot to start your first night out in Los Angeles.

After drinks, it’s a short drive to dinner at award-winning chef Enrique Olvera’s restaurant, Damian. This contemporary place blends Mexican cuisine with California’s seasonal produce. The result is delicious food in a stylish warehouse atmosphere.

If you want to go out after dinner, it’s worth checking out a rooftop bar in DTLA. They’re perfect for cocktails with city views, and fun places to end your first day in Los Angeles. Whether you go to Perch LA, Broken Shaker at the Freehand hotel , or The Rooftop at Mama Shelter , you can’t go wrong.

LA Arts District Bar

The next morning you can continue your 4-day Los Angeles itinerary with a quick breakfast and coffee at one of the many cafes in DTLA. Whether you choose Verve Coffee Roasters or Basil & Cheese Cafe there are lots of good options.

After breakfast, make your way out to Venice Beach. If you have a car, park in or near the lot bounded by Pacific Ave and North and South Venice Blvd. This is where I always park, and it’s convenient for what’s next on the itinerary.

Venice Beach is famous for its bohemian boardwalk. This oceanside promenade is lined with everything from souvenir shops to restaurants. It’s also home to Muscle Beach, an outdoor gym where Arnold Schwarzenegger once pumped iron. The basketball courts here featured in the 1992 movie White Men Can’t Jump , too.

Venice Beach souvenir stall

You can stroll up and down the boardwalk to take in the scene, then walk over to the Venice Canals. These human-made waterways were dug out in 1905 by developer Abbot Kinney to bring some Italian flair to SoCal. Today they’re popular places to meander, soak up the atmosphere, and look at the waterfront houses.

When you’ve seen the canals, you can walk or drive over to Abbot Kinney Boulevard. This road is beloved for its stylish boutiques, restaurants, and cool cafes. You can shop if you want to (and you’ll likely want to), or go straight to lunch. My go-to for a casual bite here is Greenleaf Kitchen and Cocktails.

Santa Monica

When you leave Abbot Kinney, continue your 4 days in LA by driving up Main Street to get to Santa Monica. This part of LA is famous for its beach, which has a long pier jutting out into the Pacific Ocean.

View of Santa Monica

You can stroll out to the end of the pier to take in the views of the shoreline, then drive or walk over to the 3rd Street Promenade. There are loads of shops in and around this pedestrianized stretch, and you can spend as much or as little time browsing and buying as you feel like.

The Getty Center

When you’re done in Santa Monica, continue your 4-day Los Angeles itinerary by driving up to the Getty Center in Brentwood. This renowned hilltop museum was designed by architect Richard Meier. It houses an impressive collection of European art that spans centuries, and it offers free entry.

Once inside the Getty, you’ll find everything from Turners to Van Goghs and Rembrandts. You can book a guided tour if you want to see the highlights with an expert.

Getty Center Sculpture

If you have some extra time, it’s also worth exploring the museum’s gardens. They’re known for their views, and they’re great places to take pictures.

Beverly Hills

After visiting the Getty Center, continue your itinerary for 4 days in LA by driving down Sunset Boulevard to get to Beverly Hills. This glamorous city in Los Angeles County is known for being a filming location and a favorite haunt of A-list celebrities.

It’s also where you’ll find The Golden Triangle, an area bounded by Santa Monica Boulevard, Wilshire Boulevard, and Canon Drive. The upscale shopping street of Rodeo Drive is here, too.

Via Rodeo Sign

While you’re in town you can walk around the area, shop (or window shop if your budget doesn’t extend to luxury goods proportions), and check out filming locations from famous movies and TV shows like Pretty Woman , Clueless , and Beverly Hills 90210 .

You can also go to famous hotels like the Beverly Wilshire (it’s the one that featured in Pretty Woman ). This is just the place to have a pre-dinner drink. THE Blvd Lounge is my favorite spot for cocktails when I’m in this part of LA.

When dinner comes, my top pick for a place to eat in Beverly Hills is Avra. This seafood restaurant is not only known for its delicious cuisine, but also excellent people watching. Make sure to keep an eye out for celebs while enjoying your meal in the expansive dining room.

Beverly Hills Restaurant

If you have time after dinner, it’s worth stopping by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on your way back to Downtown LA. That’s because it’s where you’ll find Urban Light.

Originally created in 2008, this free outdoor art installation by Chris Burden features a grid of restored vintage street lamps that lights up the night sky on Wilshire Boulevard.

Urban Light has become a Los Angeles landmark and attraction over the years. It’s fun to see the lamps and walk through the installation after dark. It’s great for photos and videos, too.

Urban Light at LACMA

On the third of your 4 days in Los Angeles, I recommend heading to some of the beach cities in the South Bay. From Manhattan Beach to Hermosa Beach and beyond, they’re famous places to soak up the sun in SoCal.

Manhattan Beach

You can start your day in Manhattan Beach. This is one of my favorite places in Los Angeles County thanks to its fun mix of shops, restaurants, and oceanside attractions. My go-to restaurant for breakfast here is Uncle Bill’s Pancake House . This place is a beloved local institution.

After a big breakfast, you can burn off some calories by shopping downtown. There are great clothing boutiques, home goods stores, surf shops, and art galleries here. If it’s a Tuesday, the weekly farmers’ market behind the Shade Hotel in Metlox Plaza is worth checking out, too.

Manhattan Beach

Given it’s in the name, heading to the beach is a must while you’re in town. You can stroll out to the end of the pier, go for a swim, walk or bike along the 2.1-mile Strand (also called the Marvin Braude Bike Trail), or just soak up the sun on the sand.

Hermosa Beach

When it’s lunch o’clock, drive or walk down to Hermosa Beach. Right next to Manhattan Beach, this laid-back coastal city is full of fun restaurants and cafes.

I always enjoy eating lunch on Pier Ave. There are lots of restaurants with outdoor tables in the fun pedestrianized area by Hermosa Beach Pier. If you like Mexican food, Palmilla is the perfect spot.

Hermosa Beach bikes and restaurants

After lunch you can walk around Hermosa Beach. There are shops here selling everything from surfboards to gifts, clothing, and home decor. You can stroll along the beach while you’re here, too. You might see the famous beach house from Beverly Hills 90210 on The Strand as you go.

Palos Verdes

When you’re done shopping, sunbathing, and exploring, you can continue your 4-day LA itinerary with a drive down to the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This area is home to stunning coastal scenery, lots of hiking trails, and huge houses.

If you have time and inclination, you can hike on the Bluff Cove Trail or in Portuguese Bend Reserve . They’re ideal places to get into nature in Los Angeles County, and they offer beautiful views of the beaches and places like Catalina Island .

Hiking trail in Portuguese Bend Reserve

If you don’t have time (or you’re just not into hiking), head to Terranea . This coastal resort in Palos Verdes is one of my favorite places in LA. From the cute clothing boutique to the indulgent waterfront spa and the fun bars and restaurants, it’s hard to beat.

Depending on your timing, you can indulge in some retail therapy, have a spa treatment, or enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the bar when you get here. There’s even a golf course on the property.

In the evening, my favorite restaurant at Terranea is Mar’sel. With a great menu, attentive service, and a terrace overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it’s the perfect place to end your day.

Palos Verdes restaurant

On the last morning of your 4-day Los Angeles itinerary, I recommend heading to a theme park. The county and surrounding areas are home to some of the most famous in the world, and there’s one for every type of visitor.

Universal Studios Hollywood

One option is to spend your last day at Universal Studios Hollywood. This film studio and theme park in the San Fernando Valley is known for its recognizable sets and movie-themed rides.

Highlights of Universal Studios Hollywood include The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World. You can also go on the Studio Tour, a trolley ride through the Backlot where you can take in famous filming locations.

Universal Studios Hollywood tower

Knott’s Berry Farm

Another fun theme park is Knott’s Berry Farm. This popular place in Orange County is home to rides, roller-coasters, shops, and attractions. The park has five themed areas, so it’s a fun place to explore for an entire day.

Better yet, there are regular seasonal events and festivals held at Knott’s Berry Farm throughout the year. You can check out what’s on while you’re in LA and time your visit accordingly. It’s a particularly popular place on and around Halloween in California , as it goes all-out for the holiday.

A third option is to spend the final day of your trip at Disneyland (or its neighbor, Disney California Adventure Park). This popular theme park in Anaheim is close enough to Los Angeles that you can spend a day here if you wake up early.

Disneyland Teacups

From classic areas like Frontierland to modern favorites like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, there’s a lot to love about the Magic Kingdom. And that’s to say nothing of rides like Space Mountain, the Matterhorn, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Six Flags Magic Mountain

Another option is to spend the day at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Located in Valencia, this famous theme park is known for its roller-coasters. If you’re into adrenaline-fueled rides, it’s for you.

Magic Mountain is known as the “Thrill Capital of the World” because it’s home to more roller-coasters than any other theme park on Earth. There are plenty of games and attractions to enjoy while you’re here, too.

Disneyland railroad ride

A fifth option is Legoland . It’s a bit farther away, but if you’re on a road trip and you’ll be heading south to somewhere like San Diego after your trip to Los Angeles, it’s a great choice.

Located in Carlsbad, Legoland is a fun place for families traveling with children. It features a range of rides, attractions, and shows. There’s even a water park and an aquarium here. Dino Valley is popular, too.

La Brea Tar Pits

A sixth option is the La Brea Tar Pits. While not technically a theme park, this place is still a popular visitor attraction. An active paleontological research site in Los Angeles, it features pits where natural asphalt has seeped up from the ground for millennia. The bones of trapped animals are preserved, and it’s a great place to see fossils.

This is a good option if you don’t want to spend a whole day doing one activity. You can visit the museum at the tar pits, then spend the rest of your time doing a few things you didn’t get to on previous days, or going somewhere you’ve heard about since you arrived.

Los Angeles Itinerary Map

If you want to follow my 4-day LA itinerary, you can find my interactive Google map of all the places I mentioned here . It will give you an understanding of where things are in relation to one another so you can make the most of your time in the city .

Venice Canal sunset in Los Angeles

I hope my itinerary for 4 days in Los Angeles has helped you plan how to spend your time here. The City of Angels is one of my favorite places to visit in California, and it’s worth a special trip. There are so many things to do in LA that you’re bound to have a good time no matter what you choose.

There are lots more places to see here as well. If you have the chance, it’s worth staying in town a bit longer. My 5-day Los Angeles itinerary will show you why. You’ll be able to see highlights like Malibu and other famous parts of LA. Happy travels!

This famed sidewalk is an emblem of Hollywood’s entertainment legacy, featuring over 2,600 brass stars embedded in the pavements.

Each star honors a celebrity for their contributions to the entertainment industry, making it a must-visit for movie and TV fans.

You simply can’t go on a 4-day trip to Los Angeles is complete without seeing the Hollywood Sign!

This world-famous landmark, situated on Mount Lee, is not only a symbol of the entertainment industry but also offers a great hiking opportunity with a rewarding view.

There are several hiking trails leading to the sign, each varying in difficulty. If it’s your first time in L.A, I recommend you to opt for the Hollydridge trail , as it’s easy and it offers some of the best views and photo opportunities .

Standing near the sign, you’ll have an impressive view of Los Angeles spread out below you.

Conclude your first day in Los Angeles with a visit to the Griffith Observatory .

Perched atop the Hollywood Hills, the observatory offers not only educational exhibits about space and science but also some of the most stunning views of Los Angeles.

At the observatory, you can explore exhibits about the solar system, watch live shows in the planetarium, and use telescopes to gaze at the stars (weather permitting).

The observatory is a fantastic place for both adults and children, making science accessible and enjoyable. They are especially impressed by the Tesla Coil demonstration taking place several times a day.

The real highlight, however, is the view from the observatory’s terraces.

From here, you can see the Los Angeles skyline, the Hollywood Sign, and on clear days, even the Pacific Ocean. It’s a breathtaking sight, especially at sunset or during the early evening when the city lights begin to twinkle.

Arrive in the late afternoon to enjoy both daytime and nighttime views of Los Angeles.

Griffith Observatory

You should spend the second day of your 4-day itineray in Los Angeles at Universal Studios Hollywood , where entertainment and Hollywood magic come together.

This iconic theme park offers a wide range of attractions and shows , making it a must-visit destination for film lovers and thrill-seekers alike.

Start your visit with the famous Studio Tour , a behind-the-scenes look at real movie sets and a glimpse into the world of film-making.

This guided tour takes you through iconic sets like the Bates Motel from “Psycho” and the plane crash scene from “War of the Worlds.” I really liked the realistic effects of the “King Kong 360 3-D” experience – it’s super impressive!

After the Studio Tour, dive into the action with attractions like “Jurassic World – The Ride,” where you come face-to-face with dinosaurs, and “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter,” which brings the magic of J.K. Rowling’s novels to life.

Deezer Originals

At the origins of the band Los 4, we find Eddy-K, one of the significant pioneers of the Cubaton genre. The fateful decision to split the band into two separate entities in 2008 was necessary. Half of the group (Eduardo Mora and DJ Tony) chose not to come back to Cuba after their last US tour. Deciding to pursue their musical career together, the remaining two members, Damian and Jorgito, formed a new project: Los 4. Feeling the need to expand their line-up, they added the young pianist, Frank Palacios, to the mix. Although an unusual choice in the Regueton scene, that decision helped build the unique sound of the band. People use to seeing the Regueton as music produced by a DJ, so they gave it a more vibrant timbre. With this unexpected formula, the band quickly gained a growing following amongst the youth of the island. Hits such as Igualito, Señorita Intelectual, or Motorola became instant classics. The group gives an extra effort when it comes to its lyrics, where the traditional language of the island and its slang, of course, reflect the unique cultural background of its people. Recently Los 4 returns with his new album named Con la Izquierda. Their album produces in El Cuartel Studio. They have worked there since several years ago, and in which from Studio his most celebrated hits have emerged. The magic hands of Batule Dj were once again in charge of all the music production, maintaining the Cuban and urban identity that they have preserved until today.

Planning the perfect Los Angeles itinerary can be quite a difficult task. For such a large and iconic city — the second-largest in the entirety of the USA — LA lacks a lot of traditional tourist sites and can be incredibly difficult to navigate. Despite this, there is so much to do in the city that you can very easily fill 3, 4 or 5 days in Los Angeles and still feel as if you’ve barely scratched the surface.

Known for the film industry and its beautiful beaches, Los Angeles is also a dynamic and multi-cultural city with a lot of character. It can be hard to get to know a city like LA in just a few days, however, you can definitely get a good feel for this city over the course of this itinerary.

Table of Contents

How Many Days in Los Angeles?

When determining how many days to spend in Los Angeles a better question may be to ask yourself how much time you have. LA has an infinite amount of activities and things to do so visitors could easily spend weeks and not get bored.

However, if you’re not the kind of person with unlimited time, planning to spend 3 days in LA is a good minimum if you want to get a good feel for the city and its top neighbourhoods and sites. Seeing Los Angeles in 3 days may feel kind of rushed, but you’ll still be able to cover a lot of ground and experience quite a lot.

If you have 4 days in LA, then this is a great amount of time to explore the city even deeper and spend a bit more time seeing some other neighbourhoods. And if you’re fortunate enough to have 5 days, you can use that final day to go on a day trip!

There are lots of places within easy reach of LA and it’s a great opportunity to explore more of Southern California.

In general, you’re going to want to allow for more than a weekend in Los Angeles and it’s safe to plan for at least 3 days in Los Angeles to really to the city justice.

Getting To & Around Los Angeles

Los Angeles is home to LAX – its own international airport that connects the city to innumerable destinations throughout USA and worldwide.

However, that is not the only airport that serves the city and if you’re flying from within the US, there’s a chance that you could arrive into Burbank or Long Beach airport, as well.

LA is even relatively accessible from John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana or Ontario Airport in San Bernardino County, however, it isn’t the closest option and you have to be willing to drive about an hour (or more, depending on the traffic) to reach the actual city of Los Angeles. You can also take a pre-booked transfer from the airport.

If you’re not flying, it is possible to arrive into LA via train – there are trains that connect Los Angeles to other cities in California. For instance, the train from San Diego takes about three hours and offers beautiful views of the Southern California coast. Trains arrive into Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. You can view train schedules here.

Los Angeles is also a perfect stop on any California coastal road trip and a good jumping-off point if you’re driving north to San Francisco or south to San Diego .

Getting around LA can be a bit of a headache no matter how you plan to do it. An incredibly car-centric city, planning to rely on public transportation while visiting LA isn’t the best idea. There is a public transport system in the city, however, it isn’t that broad or reliable and can be tricky to navigate.

Los Angeles is very spread out and not super walkable, so if you don’t plan on driving yourself, then your best bet is going to be to rely on ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft to get around the city.

The itinerary below does concentrate on different neighbourhoods each day, however, it is still going to be easiest to get around LA if you have a car. Driving in Los Angeles can seem a bit daunting — especially considering that Angelenos have a reputation for being aggressive drivers — but it is the most convenient and easiest way to get around the city.

Keep in mind that LA also gets terrible traffic and it’s hard to really convey just how gridlocked the city can be until you’ve experienced it yourself.

So even though something looks close on a map, you may spend a lot of time getting to your destination because of the traffic conditions. The nature of visiting Los Angeles is that you will likely be spending a fair amount of time in the car in transit.

If you want to rent a car while in Los Angeles, consider browsing Rentalcars.com in order to find deals across a number of major rental companies.

3, 4 or 5-Day Los Angeles Itinerary

Whether you have 3, 4 or 5 days to explore LA, this itinerary builds upon each day. This itinerary will take you through some of the most iconic sites and neighbourhoods in the City of Angels.

If you plan on visiting many of the paid attractions listed below, consider purchasing a Los Angeles Go City Pass to save money on entrance fees!

Day 1 – Hollywood

Being our time in LA by exploring Hollywood – the heart of the film industry. You can spend your morning taking in some views before heading down to enjoy the sites on Hollywood Boulevard and, if you’re interested, take a studio tour!

Griffith Park & the Hollywood Sign

There are few attractions in Los Angeles (and really in the entirety of US cities) as iconic as the famed Hollywood Sign on Mount Lee. Originally erected in 1923 to advertise a new housing development, it has become a focal point of the area ever since.

If you want to get some of the best views of the Hollywood sign, it’s a great idea to head to the Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park.

From here, you can get a good view of Mount Lee and a panorama of Los Angeles below. And, if you’re looking to get even more active, there are also countless hiking trails within Griffith Park where you can get even better views and end up closer to the sign. You can also take a guided hike .

I recommend getting here early – especially if you plan to hike as it can get pretty hot in LA depending on the season you’re visiting.

If you want to hike to the Hollywood Sign itself instead of simply viewing it from Griffith Observatory, then there are a few trails you can choose from that range in difficulty — the Mount Hollywood Trail, the Brush Canyon Trail and the Cahuenga Peak Trail. There are also guided walking tours that take you to the top.

Make sure to set aside a couple of hours to dedicate to these hikes if that’s what you choose. In general, going out for a hike is one of the best things to do in LA.

Griffith Observatory

Hollywood Boulevard & Walk of Fame

From Griffith Observatory, it’s only about a 10-minute drive to Hollywood Boulevard, home to countless iconic sites such as the Walk of Fame and the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman’s Chinese Theatre).

Hollywood Boulevard is incredibly touristy and is pretty much always packed with visitors, but is an essential stop on any first-timer’s trip to LA.

Make sure to take the time to walk along the Walk of Fame and scope out the stars of your favourite artists and celebrities. You can also take in all of the handprints in front of the Chinese Theatre.

There are plenty of other sites to take in here, as well, and it’s the perfect place for film fans and Hollywood history buffs.

Explore Hollywood or Take a Studio Tour

After hanging out on Hollywood Boulevard and seeing the sights there, you have a couple of options on what to do next.

You could opt to venture a bit further from the Walk of Fame and explore more of Hollywood on your own. Famous Sunset Boulevard is only one block south and you can also even mosy your way to Melrose Avenue.

Another very popular thing to do while in Hollywood is to go on a Studio Tour. If you want to both take in some cinema history and to see what film sets are like, there are a number of different studios in Hollywood that offer tours.

Some of the most famous include Warner Brothers , Paramount and even Universal Studios (the latter may be better to dedicate an entire day and include the theme park).

Famous Hollywood Sign

Day 2 – Venice & Santa Monica

If your first day in Los Angeles was dedicated to all of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, plan to spend your second day taking in two of the city’s most popular beach areas – Venice and Santa Monica.

Venice Canals

Begin your day in the Venice neighbourhood in west Lost Angeles – so-called because the canals were designed to resemble the Italian city of the same name.

Venice was originally conceived as a development for a beach resort and several miles of canals were built in order to drain the marshes that originally inhabited the area.

Over the years, Venice has come to have a reputation of being a bohemian beach town with its own independent spirit, however, in more recent times it has become quite a coveted and expensive area of the city.

Before heading over to the iconic Venice Beach, make sure to take some time wandering around the Venice Canals. It’s a really beautiful area and a unique spot in the urban sprawl of Los Angeles.

Vibrant Venice Beach in Los Angeles

Venice Beach

Mosy away from the canals and you will find the true draw of this neighbourhood – Venice Beach. This gorgeous stretch of soft, golden sand is one of the city’s top beaches but it is also well known for its iconic boardwalk.

Stretching for miles along the beach, the Venice Boardwalk is an expansive promenade that makes for some of the best people-watching you can find in the great Los Angeles area.

There is a lot to take in and explore in this area such as taking a food tour , however, you could also use this time to simply lounge on a beautiful Southern California beach.

Santa Monica

After enjoying Venice, it’s time to drive just a bit north to LA’s other incredibly famous beach neighbourhood – Santa Monica.

This upmarket area is well-known for the iconic Santa Monica Pier, a classic beach boardwalk amusement park that is filled with old-school carnival games, rides and a classic wooden roller coaster.

For those who don’t want to play at the pier, you can also opt to lounge on lovely Santa Monica Beach or take a surfing lesson . This is a beautiful soft sand beach that is perfect for sunbathing.

Away from the Pacific, the neighbourhood of Santa Monica itself is a great place to explore with plenty of great cafes, restaurants, bars and shops to browse.

Iconic Santa Monica Pier

Day 3 – Downtown LA

By this point, you’ve spent time in both Hollywood and exploring some of LA’s best beaches.

Now, on your third day, it’s time to head downtown and explore the urban centre of Los Angeles. If you love food, then you’re sure to love this day in LA. You can take a walking tour or a food tour of this area to learn more from a guide.

Arts District

Located on the edge of Downtown Los Angeles, the Arts District is a neighbourhood well worth exploring if you want to take in a bit of culture while visiting this Southern California city.

In a metropolis often derided in the US for lacking in culture, this is a neighbourhood that very much celebrates the incredible artistic nature of this city.

Whether you’re interested in taking in some incredible street art or murals or want to visit some museums, spend a few hours exploring the Arts District of LA. Not surprisingly, there are a number of galleries where you can explore some incredible art done by local artists, but there is more here than just that.

The Arts District is also home to some incredible restaurants, coffee shops and lots of craft breweries for those who fancy an artisan microbrew while on the trip to LA.

Grand Park in downtown LA

Little Tokyo

Located right on the cusp of the Arts District lies Little Tokyo, the historic heart of the Japanese-American community in LA. Home to what is actually the largest Japanese-American community in the entirety of the USA, this is a fascinating, historic neighbourhood to explore in Los Angeles and really outlines just how multicultural this incredible city is.

Those who want to learn more about this area and about Japanese Americans in general, then consider visiting the Japanese American National Museum.

And, if you’re looking for a more food-centric experience, then you’re certain to find some incredible food in this neighbourhood, as well. You may want to save some of your appetite for our next stop, however.

Grand Central Market

No time spent in Downtown Los Angeles is complete without visiting the Grand Central Market. First opened in 1917, this market hall is a foodie’s paradise.

Home to both fresh produce vendors and a range of different food stalls, you can get everything here from ramen to Berlin-style currywurst to barbecue to tostadas to wood-fired pizza and so much more.

Though this entire day really celebrates just how vibrant and multicultural LA is, you can really see it very tangibly for yourself just by browsing all of the stalls in the market.

End your day at the other side of Downtown LA in the Koreatown neighbourhood. Known locally as simply “K-Town,” this is the heart of the Korean-American population in the city and is actually one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in the entirety of the USA.

K-Town has it all and if you’re a fan of Korean cuisine, you’re sure to find something great to eat here. It can also be a great idea to learn a little bit about the history of this ethnically diverse neighbourhood, especially considering it was the epicentre of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots and it very much shaped the neighbourhood today.

There is a lot to offer in this neighbourhood and it is the perfect place to end your third day in LA.

Day 4 – Beverly Hills, Westwood & the Getty Center

If your visions of Los Angeles have to do with high-end homes and designer shopping, then you’re sure to love day four of this itinerary. And, if you’re looking to learn a bit, this day also includes a visit at one of the area’s top museums.

Rodeo Drive

Begin your day at Beverly Hills’ most iconic shopping street – Rodeo Drive. Whether you’re simply looking at doing some window shopping or are keen to splash the cash at the area’s countless designer shops, there is no doubt that this is a perfect place for an opulent LA experience.

You’ll notice a distinct change in atmosphere here compared to the other neighbourhoods you’ve explored and even if you’re not interested in the lives of the rich and famous of Beverly Hills, it can be worth having a stroll down Rodeo Drive just to experience the sheer diversity of LA neighbourhoods.

Rodeo Drive

Explore Westwood

Not far from Beverly Hills and Bel Air lies the hip and cool Westwood neighbourhood. This is a young and vibrant area that is a fun place to explore. It has an especially youthful vibe as it is home to the UCLA campus.

There are lots of great cafes, restaurants, bars and shops to explore in this neighbourhood and, again, it can give you a bit of a different perspective on the city. And if you want to really see what this area is like, consider hopping in the car and driving through the winding streets of nearby Bel Air, where you can see some of the most opulent, giant houses in the city.

After spending the morning around Beverly Hills, it’s only a short hop over to the Getty — one of the top museums in Los Angeles. If you’re a fine arts fan, you will delight in visiting the countless exhibits in this beautiful museum.

The museum itself is worth visiting just for the incredible architecture and the great views you can get from there. The Getty is quite sizeable, so plan to spend a fair amount of time here really taking in all of the different exhibits of American and European art.

The Getty Center

Day 5 – Day Trip or Universal Studios

If you’re spending 5 days in LA, then you can spend your final day on a day trip or, if you’re interested, enjoying all of the highlights at Universal Studios. There are countless options open for you depending on what exactly you’re after.

Universal Studios

If you want to head to a theme park but don’t want to leave LA proper, then make sure to head to Universal Studios. Here, you not only can go on a classic studio tour but you can also enjoy the sprawling theme park and have a blast on all of the rides and areas based on your favourite movies!

You need a whole day (at least) to devote to Universal Studios, so this is an excellent way to spend your final day exploring LA.

Santa Barbara

If you’re up for a bit of a drive, then consider heading to Santa Barbara , which is located about 2 hours from the centre of Los Angeles.

This lovely town is a perfect day trip destination an it has a lot to offer visitors. You can wander along the beach, explore the Funk Zone (the cool, downtown area) or enjoy the Urban Wine Trails.

Santa Barbara is the limit of where Southern California can merge into the Central Coast and it has a much more laid-back and relaxed culture when compared to Los Angeles. It is an excellent day trip option for LA.

The lovely Santa Barbara waterfront

If you want to head out to the beach once more, then you really cannot go wrong with driving out to Malibu. Located just north of Los Angeles proper, Malibu is home to several incredible beaches that are not quite as built up and a bit wilder than the beaches you will find within LA itself.

Malibu is also home to the Getty Villa, an offshoot of the Getty Museum in Beverly Hills. Here, you can view a wonderful collection of antiquities that were in the possession of oil tycoon J Paul Getty.

Orange County

If you’re keen to head south, then consider visiting Orange County. Now famous for the popular 2000s-era TV show The OC , Orange County is home to countless lovely beach towns and interesting places to visit. Huntington Beach is the closest to Los Angeles and is a perfect place to observe surfers catching the waves (or to try your hand at it yourself).

Other options in Orange County include swish Newport Beach – which is a great option for kids as you could also visit the classic theme park on Balboa Island.

And just a bit further south and about 1.5 hours from LA itself is Laguna Beach. This is a relaxed beach town with a ton of beautiful beaches to explore and wonderful shops and restaurants.

Catalina Island

Finally, if you’re looking for a unique day trip from LA, then consider heading to Catalina Island . Located off the coast of Southern California, Catalina is a lovely destination and it’s accessible via high-speed ferry from Long Beach or San Pedro, just south of the LA city centre.

Once in Catalina, you can spend your day wandering around the charming city of Avalon, touring the iconic Casino, hiking in the hills or, if you’d like simply lounging on the beach. Catalina is also a haven for those who like snorkelling, SCUBA diving or other watersports.

Taylor Swift delivers emotional catharsis and anthems galore in epic, three-hour-plus show

Taylormania has finally arrived in Southern California.

Nearly five months after she launched her first road show since 2018, Taylor Swift is wrapping up the initial U.S. leg of her blockbuster Eras tour with six sold-out concerts at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium starting Thursday night.

It’s a love story, L.A. just says yes: How Taylormania took over the world

Cultural dominance. History-making album sales. Sold-out stadiums. Add them up, and Taylor Swift’s current moment has little precedent in pop-music history.

Aug. 1, 2023

The tour ostensibly comes behind Swift’s 10th studio album, “ Midnights ,” which came out in October and immediately set a record for the most streams ever accumulated in a single day on Spotify. Since then the LP has been certified double platinum and spun off a No. 1 single in “Anti-Hero”; it’s also a strong contender for an album of the year nomination at February’s Grammy Awards.

As the tour’s name suggests, though, Swift’s live show — with dozens of songs spread over three hours or more — is meant to encompass the 33-year-old’s entire career, from her days as a teenage country phenom through her pop breakthrough with 2012’s “Red” to her current station as a kind of fairy godmother figure to a generation of younger songwriters including Gracie Abrams and Gayle, both of whom are among her opening acts at SoFi.

How to watch the Taylor Swift concert from the comfort of your sofa

Couldn’t score a ticket to SoFi? On TikTok, one Swiftie has built a following by curating and broadcasting fans’ nightly live recordings of the singer’s three-hour sets.

Aug. 2, 2023

Has any pop-culture event been more closely followed this summer? (Maybe “Barbenheimer.”) In addition to the hundreds of thousands of people who’ve taken in one of Swift’s gigs in person — driving gross proceeds toward an expected $1 billion or more by the time she’s finished circling the globe next year — the Eras tour has maintained a constant presence on TikTok thanks in the part to the show’s blend of novelty and familiarity: You know she’ll play a surprise song or two, but you don’t know which ones; you know she’ll place a hat on a lucky fan’s head during “22,” but you don’t know who the fan will be.

The ultimate guide to seeing Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium

Parking! Public transit! Fan chants! Friendship bracelets! Everything you need to know before you see Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium for the L.A. stops of her Eras tour.

Aug. 4, 2023

Might Swift, who revealed early Thursday that she’d scheduled a second round of North American dates next year, have even more up her sleeve in L.A.? The Times’ Mikael Wood and Suzy Exposito are at SoFi for opening night and will provide live updates from the show as it happens.

A fan with Taylor Swift merchandise at SoFi Stadium

6:12 p.m. Greetings from SoFi Stadium, where the struggle to park is real enough that I just saw somebody’s pink boa come hurtling out of a car window in what looked like frustration. (Hope they brought an extra.)

I’m Mikael Wood, The Times’ pop music critic, and I’m here with Times columnist Suzy Exposito for Night 1 of Taylor Swift’s weeklong … takeover? Residency? Not sure yet what we’re calling this.

In any event, tonight won’t be my first time seeing the Eras tour; I was there back in March for the road show’s opener in Arizona. But I’m excited to see what’s changed, what’s different and of course how palpable the crowd frenzy is now that folks know what’s coming. — M.W.

Wrists filled with friendship bracelets

6:35 p.m . The first of tonight’s opening acts is 23-year-old Gracie Abrams, a talented L.A.-based singer-songwriter — and the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams — who told me recently that Swift has been such a formative influence that she can’t “remember a time in my life where Taylor wasn’t the immediate go-to inevitable soundtrack.” Abrams added: “She has scored every formative memory I have” — a level of influence I don’t think I’ve ever heard an artist describe before. — M.W.

6:47 p.m. One thing I know about the show now that I didn’t know in March: the existence of the little tent in which Swift’s celebrity pals watch the show. Will definitely cruise by and try to clock who’s there — minutes (hours!) behind the teens on TikTok, no doubt. — M.W.

Happy fans at SoFi Stadium.

7:04 p.m. “Hi, L.A. — this is so crazy,” Abrams tells the crowd of tens of thousands at the top of her set, which is certainly fair considering that I saw her play the comparatively tiny Fonda Theatre in Hollywood just a few months ago.

Abrams’ Swift standom is no less intense onstage than it was in our interview: “This tour has been beyond our wildest dreams,” she says, going on to describe the Eras tour as “the best thing that’s ever happened.”

And yet she’s doing her breathy and introspective chamber-folk tunes with a poise that belies however amped she is inside. — M.W.

Gracie Abrams performs at SoFi Stadium.

7:05 p.m. A true Angeleno, Abrams asks the audience if they were at Swift’s “1989” shows at Staples Center — before the dreaded name change to Crypto.com Arena — back in 2015. — M.W.

7:10 p.m. A pre-show anecdote that Swifties (and their moms) should be able to relate to: As evidenced by the barren shelves that were once filled with letter beads, it was clear that fans had ransacked craft stores all over greater Los Angeles this week to partake in the Eras tour tradition of wearing homemade friendship bracelets to the concert. I searched Hollywood, Glendale and Pasadena — where at Michael’s, an agitated woman, likely some young girl’s mother, began flinging packets of beads with only numbers on them. “I can’t believe I’m doing this,” she swore under her breath, before smiling wryly at me. “It’s ALLLLL for the TikTok!” she said with a laugh. — Suzy Exposito

7:22 p.m. Next up as the evening’s second opening act is Haim, the sly L.A. sister trio who’ve been opening for Swift for what seems like eons. As with Abrams, I caught Haim recently at a small club (in this case the just-opened Bellwether); curious how they fare in the gigantic stadium setting. — M.W.

7:37 p.m. “Any Valley girls here tonight?” asks Alana Haim, whose sister Este volunteers that she was “born and raised in the 818” — Tarzana, specifically. (Este leaves the precise coordinates of her sisters’ origins unstated.) Then the trio rips into “Want You Back,” accompanied by video of a stroll down Ventura Boulevard where Sherman Oaks edges into Encino. — M.W.

7:48 p.m. Haim is really bringing the laid-back, ‘70s country-rock vibe to SoFi. These L.A. witches are a fitting opener for what’s essentially the biggest coven gathering this city’s seen in years. — S.E.

Haim's Danielle Haim performs at SoFi Stadium on Thursday.

7:52 p.m. Haim closes with “The Steps,” which feels like the rawest rock song I’ve heard at SoFi since … the Rolling Stones in 2021? — M.W.

7:56 p.m. Between the “Barbie” movie and the Eras tour, it’s been a banner summer for girl culture. I love seeing girlfriends (straight and gay) here, in their matching boots and fuzzy cowboy hats. Taylor is obviously not just for girls — dads too, and I’ve seen several guys here sporting tiaras, sequins and/or pink — but to be a girl feels aspirational in a place like this, even if it’s only for the next six nights. — S.E.

Fans at SoFi Stadium.

8:13 p.m. Spotted in the celebrity tent: Babyface! — M.W.

8:25 p.m. We happen to be seated next to Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of “The Hills” fame. Heidi’s favorite Taylor era? “Folklore.” His? “Reputation.” I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Speidi kindly gifted me a bracelet of beads from their shop, made of rose quartz and jade. Thanks y’all! — S.E.

8:29 p.m. Taylor time: Swift opens with “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” as she has every show on the tour, before moving into “Cruel Summer,” which has become an honest-to-goodness radio hit three years after its release. The roar of the crowd is absolutely deafening. — M.W.

Could Taylor Swift mania fuel a COVID cruel summer? What you need to know

Could Taylor Swift’s mega-tour have fans seeing red on their next COVID test? Here’s how officials say concertgoers can help protect themselves.

8:34 p.m. Swift dons a sparkly suit jacket to sing “The Man,” which she’s staging amid an old-school scene a la “Mad Men.” — M.W.

8:35 p.m. The tens of thousands of Swifties wearing light-up bracelets are glowing across the stadium for her song of LGBTQ solidarity, “You Need to Calm Down.” Taylor is for lovers! — S.E.

8:38 p.m. “Is there anyone here who put in an extensive amount of effort to be with us here tonight?” Swift asks. Then she wants to know if this extra effort can be put into two categories: “lyric memorization and your cute outfit?” With regard to cute outfits: seeing many a sparkly cowboy hat. And, yeah: Basically every human here knows every word to every song. — M.W.

8:48 p.m. Swift has come out to the end of her stage runway to sing “The Archer,” which means it’s time for the folks next to us to hold up their signs and shake them in the hope that Swift sees them. Directly in front of us: A girl of probably 8 whose sign reads “SLAY.” — M.W.

8:54 p.m. We have moved from the “Lover” era to the “Fearless” era, and what I’m thinking about as Swift sings the “Fearless” title track is how she’s managed to renew her fan base with young people who don’t view these songs as juvenile but as utterly up-to-date evocations of young love. Who else has grown up with her audience at the same time that she’s replaced it? — M.W.

Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium in a sparkly leotard.

8:59 p.m. Internet rumor had it that these SoFi shows were set to be filmed for a concert movie of some sort. Can confirm that there are multiple cameras on cables soaring above the crowd. — M.W.

9:00 p.m. Key change in “Love Story”? Still totally epic. — M.W.

Taylor Swift plays a guitar while her hair flies on stage.

9:02 p.m. We’re into the “Evermore” era with an assist from Haim, who’ve joined Swift for “No Body No Crime.” — M.W.

9:11 p.m. Was “Willow” as deliciously witchy as this when I saw her in Arizona. I don’t remember Taylor in a cape and her dancers holding glowing orbs, as they are here tonight. — M.W.

9:14 p.m. Swift is singing “Marjorie” and there is a woman in front of me shaking her hair and convulsing like Elaine Benes in “Seinfeld.” She must have caught the spirit — or had one too many margaritas. — S.E.

Taylor Swift in a floor length yellow dress and Danielle Haim on guitar perform onstage.

9:20 p.m. “We have a lot to catch up on, musically speaking,” Swift says, before explaining that the reason she didn’t tour for five years was because we had “much more important things we had to worry about” amid a “global pandemic.” Once she got back on the road, she says, people would ask her if she intended to play, “like, a three-hour show.” Yes, she says — that’s exactly what she intended to do. Cue “Champagne Problems.” — M.W.

9:22 p.m. Swift is taking a minute, head resting upon her moss-covered piano, to take in the crowd’s adulation. — M.W.

Taylor Swift plays her mossy piano.

9:30 p.m. Swift is staging “Tolerate It” as a dismal dinner with a partner completely uninterested in what she has to say about her day. Spend a second thinking about how wild that is for a stadium pop show. — M.W.

9:32 p.m. We hear boots clacking ominously across the stadium. The “Reputation” era is nigh. — S.E.

9:35 p.m. The “Reputation” portion of the show starts with “Ready for It,” which is — what would you even call this song? Confessional trap? (Please don’t call it that.) — M.W.

9:45 p.m. Wild to remember how controversial “Look What You Made Me Do” was when it first came out — for Swifties, this song is basically “Hotel California.” — M.W.

9:49 p.m. Hear me out — “Look What You Made Me Do” is a killer electroclash song that made it to the airwaves 15 years too late. — S.E.

9:52 p.m. We’ve reached the halfway mark — insane, obviously, given that the show has been going for 90 minutes — with “Enchanted,” which has the crowd singing along in fairy-tale abandon. — M.W.

9:59 p.m. Time for the “Red” portion, for which this crowd seems very, very primed. — M.W.

10:05 p.m. Spotted during “22”: Este Haim dancing in the aisle. — M.W.

10:10 p.m. “There is one more song from the ‘Red’ album that I wanna do,” Swift says. “Do you have about 10 minutes to spare?” — M.W.

10:11 p.m. Imagine: Over 60,000 Taylor fans screaming about Jake Gyllenhaal’s “F— the Patriarchy” keychain. — S.E.

10:13 p.m. “All Too Well”’s “little kid with glasses” line will never not get me. — M.W.

10:18 p.m. At the risk of giving into Taylormania, who else is out here regaling stadium crowds with 10-minute dissections of relationships gone wrong? It is truly insane that the summer’s biggest pop tour is also its most emotionally complicated. — M.W.

10:20 p.m. “All Too Well” also made for a really beautiful moment: I saw several moms cradling their up-past-their-bedtime daughters. — S.E.

10:23 p.m. Still left to go: “Folklore,” “1989” and “Midnights.” — M.W.

10:30 p.m. Hearing “The 1” really takes me back to that morning in pandemic-plagued 2020 when Swift announced that “Folklore” was coming later that evening. Seems like an eternity ago. — M.W.

10:34 p.m. Wielding a mahogany guitar, Swift is perched atop a frame of a woodsy two-story house covered in leaves and moss. Jamming below is her trusty band. “This is a rendering of what I imagined in my head when I started writing ‘Folklore’ — two days into the pandemic,” she says. “I took the time to imagine myself not as a lonely millennial woman covered in cat hair and watching 70 hours of TV at a time… but as a Victorian woman writing on parchment with a quill in the woods and living in this house.” — S.E.

10:35 p.m. Have to love when an entire stadium of people sings, as in “Betty,” about a moment of being told to “go f— myself.” — M.W.

10:42 p.m. During “August,” Taylor lived out her best Kate Bush fantasy by sprinting across the stage in a flowing white gown — then came crashing down to her knees as she cut to “Illicit Affairs.” High drama! — S.E.

10:47 p.m. “Illicit Affairs” tonight sounds like … a Disturbed song? Can’t say I can recall another moment when Taylor leaned as heavily into her aggro side as she’s doing right now. — M.W.

10:53 p.m. The conventional wisdom on “Folklore” and “Evermore” was that Swift made these albums knowing that touring wasn’t an option. But it’s fascinating to hear how she’s configured these songs for the biggest stages in the world. They’re dirty but polished, confessional but anthemic, intimate yet geared to the needs of more than 60,000 people seeking some kind of catharsis. — M.W.

Taylor Swift and dancers perform onstage.

11:00 p.m. Pop Taylor has arrived. We are into “1989” with “Style” and “Blank Space,” the latter of which has two dancers riding bikes down the stage runway as Taylor swings a light-up golf club. — M.W.

11:02 p.m. “Shake It Off” is as bad tonight as it was when it came out a decade ago. Moving on... — M.W.

11:09 p.m. “Welcome to the acoustic set,” says Swift. — M.W.

11:18 p.m. For tonight’s surprise songs, Swift does “I Can See You” (from “Speak Now”) on guitar, and “Maroon” (from “Midnights”) on piano. — M.W.

11:19 p.m. At the time, “I Can See You” was — and honestly still is — a risqué song compared with the rest of her oeuvre, a psychosexual thriller told from the point of view of teenage Taylor. — S.E.

Taylor Swift and dancers lean forward on stage at SoFi Stadium in front of the crowd.

11:22 p.m. Now we are into the “Midnights” era, with a video of splashing waves that turn into a moody-looking cloud. — M.W.

11:23 p.m. Oh, Swift is in pop diva mode, performing “Lavender Haze” wearing a purple feathered robe. — M.W.

11:27 p.m. All I have to say about “Anti-Hero” is that the image of a giant “lurching toward your favorite city” remains one of the most indelible of the 2020s. — M.W.

11:34 p.m. At the heart of “Midnights” is the intimacy between a superstar and her therapist — bless them, wherever they are — and we get the transcripts in the language of synth-pop. — S.E.

11:35 p.m. Do I love “Vigilante S—“? I do not. It might be the corniest song in Swift’s catalog — a catalog that includes “Welcome to New York!” But she is giving it her all tonight, with 10 dancers serving up big “Chicago” energy — M.W.

11:38 p.m. We’re well past the three-hour mark as Swift starts up “Mastermind.” — M.W.

11:41 p.m. “I will never forget this,” Swift says as her band revs up “Karma.” — M.W.

11:45 p.m. And that’s a wrap, on a genuinely epic night of music. Now, to try to get out of this stadium... Thanks for reading! — M.W.

Relaxing under the shade of palm tree is definitely an option as well! • 17-Mile Drive – the spectacular Central California coast is on display as you journey along this famous stretch. • San Francisco – the “City on the Bay” has culturally iconic attractions that you must experience at least once in your lifetime. Visit Alcatraz (at night – if you dare), stroll across the Golden Gate Bridge and grab a hop on hop off pass to see all the other major sites.

If you are already in San Francisco, you can get the best of the California coast with a Los Angeles tour from San Francisco .
