You have probably spotted their iconic yellow boats whilst in Whitby. They sail on short trips out to sea around the bay alongside the biggest and the best boats in the harbour. They also sail on longer trips along the coast, wildlife and whale watching cruises, trips to seal colony at Ravenscar , sunset and twilight trips and river trips down to Ruswarp along the Esk on their smaller boat Dash II. As well as daily short trips, they operate a number of special cruises providing plenty of opportunities to see some of the Yorkshire coast’s amazing wildlife or experience a sunset from the sea.

20-minute Sea Trips

Their 20-minute trips along the coast towards Sandsend run every day, they start at 10.15 am. Tickets cost £4 per person and under 5s go free. You can board at Brewery Steps on the harbourside. No booking is needed for 20 min sailings just walk aboard. These are a great little taster to enjoy Whitby by boat and see the town from a different perspective.

Whitby Harbour Tour Boat Trip

Sail through the heart of Whitby on Dash II. This is a smaller boat that is able to navigate the River Esk inland, through the harbour and marina and onward under the impressive viaduct towards the village of Ruswarp. This Whitby boat trip boards from opposite Wetherspoons, the Angel Hotel. Tickets cost £4 per person, with under 2s going free. Pair this with the 20-minute sea trip for a really fun day out.

One of our favourite Whitby boat trips, this 2-hour trip runs between July and August and provides a chance to see some of the amazing wildlife and scenery of the Yorkshire coast. Refreshments are available, so sit back, relax and enjoy an unforgettable experience! Adults cost £15, children (under 14) cost £7.50. Under 5s go free.

Their 45-minute Sunset Cruises operate throughout the summer. Sailing from Brewery Steps on the harbourside, they head north towards Sandsend to enjoy the dramatic North Sea sunset from a unique perspective. Check the sign at Brewery Steps for sailing times. Adults cost £8, children (under 14) cost £4.

Twilight Cruises

Leaving the Harbour at dusk they sail out to sea as the remaining daylight fades away. Returning after dark gives passengers a unique opportunity to view Whitby from the sea at night, to view the town in another light. Check the sign at Brewery Steps for sailing times. Adults cost £8, children (under 14) cost £4.

The Bark Endeavour Captain Cook Experience Cruise

Captain Cook Experience Cruise

This is better known as the Captain Cook Experience and is a really popular attraction to take part in, in Whitby. It gives you a chance to cruise along the harbour and experience firsthand the historical impact that Captain Cook had on the town and indeed on the country as a whole. You will be sailing on an authentic replica of Captain Cook’s famous Endeavour ship (40% of the size of the original ship). There are regular daily sailings throughout the year. Located in Whitby Harbour at the Fish Quay, close to the West Pier opposite Whitby Amusements. Dogs are allowed on the trip for free.

Your trip on the Bark Endeavour Whitby will be more than a simple pleasure cruise; instead, you will enjoy some fantastic views of North Yorkshire’s Jurassic coastline, with its interesting geological features and its wealth of fossils and minerals, including the famous Whitby Jet ; You will also see a rich variety of wildlife, including many different types of sea bird, seals and occasionally porpoise, dolphins and whales. Sailing times (no booking required) start from 10:00-10:30 am most days throughout the year (subject to weather and tide conditions). The sailing trips are approx. 25 mins around Whitby Harbour and along the coast to Sandsend. For group bookings, it is also advisable to book beforehand so that they can ensure all members of your party are suitably catered for upon your arrival.

This is a family favourite Whitby boat trip out to sea and back, with a fun Pirate theme. The pirate crew makes it an exciting adventure from start to finish. It’s lovely for children as they make it a really exciting voyage. There are lots of photo opportunities both onboard or with Pirates back on land. The trip lasts 20-25 minutes and there are plenty of dressing up costumes and props for everyone to get in character. A bargain for £4 and lots of fun.

As well as our daily sea trips we run a number of special trips providing the opportunity to see some amazing wildlife and enjoy dramatic sunsets from the sea.

Whitby has a long history of seafaring. From the historic voyages of Captain James Cook, to being one of the busiest whaling ports and home to one of the largest fishing fleets in the UK, Whitby's seafaring heritage is hard to beat!

Today Whitby is still home to fishing vessels of all shapes and sizes. It's also home to some of the best fish restaurants and fish & chip takeaways in the country.

The Yellow Boats sail on short trips out to sea around the bay with the biggest and best boats in the harbour. Our fares are the cheapest and under fives go free Toilets on Symmer Queen  and Esk Belle

We also sail on longer trips along the coast, wildlife and whale watching cruises, trips to seal colony at Ravenscar, Sunset and twilight trips and River trips down to Ruswarp along the Esk.

As well as daily short trips, we operate a number of special cruises providing plenty of opportunity to see some of the Yorkshire coast's amazing wildlife or experience a sunset from the sea!

The Yellow Boats, Whitby

The vessel "Coastal Explorer" will offer unique trips between the ports of Whitby and Scarborough. Weather permitting there will be four trips per day, reducing to two in low season. Followed by a longer "special" trip later in the day.

Customers are welcome to travel one-way (or return from the first trip of the day) between Whitby and Scarborough. The trips will display the beautiful scenery, rugged cliffs and wildlife in its natural habitat. Whales, dolphins, seals and seabirds are hoped to be seen from these trips. 

Bicycle or walk

We welcome cyclists aboard! The bikes can be secured aboard the boat for your trip to the neighbouring town. After experiencing the coast from the sea, take advantage of the amazing dis-used railway track between Scarborough and Whitby. This 21 miles route is ideal for walking or biking. See the history of the once magnificent railway line. Enjoy the many refreshment venues along the way. Drop into Robinhoods Bay and see the quaint village steeped in history. See Ravenscar, the town that never was, with stunning views and a maybe welcome rest!

Bus or taxi

Take the more leisurely option and spend time exploring your new destination for the day. With regular bus services between the two town, offering arguably the most scenic bus route in the country. Drop into the magnificent Robinhoods Bay and explore this old fishing village with its unspoilt facade and strong smuggling past!

Reliable taxi links exist between Scarborough and Whitby. Get a later boat trip and treat yourselves to a night out in a different town. Both Scarborough and Whitby have differing but enjoyable night life. Saturated with restaurants and bars to suit all needs from high end dining to "grab it and growl", cocktail bars to traditional pubs. This option offers the chance to make the day one never to forget!

Whitby to Scarborough

Scarborough to Whitby

Leaving Scarborough harbour, in the picturesque South Bay, we'll head north around the headland on which stands Scarborough castle.

Look out for the pyramid structure, home to the Sea Life Centre as we cross North Bay. Passing Burniston Rocks and Hayburn Wyke we'll soon see Ravenscar. Slowing for a sighting of the seals and closing in for a spectacular view of Robin Hood's Bay.

Having passed the lighthouse at Hawsker we'll enter Whitby harbour, between the impressive twin piers.

The 2 hour nature trip enables you to spend more time with the wildlife, be it seals, dolphins or whales.

Our 2 hour trip covers more of the coastline, increasing the chances of seeing the desired wildlife and more of our stunning coastline.

A regular bus route that runs every hour ( Arriva X93 ) this takes about an hour and takes you through the stunning scenery of the Yorkshire moors as it twists and turns between Whitby and Scarborough. Option to stop off in Robinhoods bay or other locations along the way. Friendly local taxi service available too.

Whitby Fishing Trips and Whitby Boat Trips

Whitby is synonymous with fishing, and indeed has many different aspects for the keen angler. From a three to five day fishing trip , to a 10 or 12 hour fishing trip , from a 2 to 3 hour fishing trip , to fishing off the end of the pier, all different types of sea fishing are accommodated here.

Kiddies Corner

Children can be found fishing, or �crab lining� at Kiddies Corner near the Old Swing Bridge . This, a favourite pastime that has been taking place over the centuries.

The dock-end is where the majority of fishing trips take place. There are numerous placards depicting the length of fishing trip and prices displayed on the railings at the harbour side . There are also many of the sea angling charter boats that advertise on the internet, many have been operating for over twenty years. These charter boats can hire the fishing equipment if required. The full day fishing trips can travel up to 25 or more miles offshore, to fish on old wrecks.

For those who enjoy a trip to sea without the fishing, there are a number of pleasure craft willing to take paying passengers either upstream or out to sea. These include a replica of an old sailing ship , an old lifeboat , a fast jet speedboat , and larger craft that takes sunset cruises , twilight cruises and whale watching trips ! These too can be found along the harbour on the west side.
