Review: Travel Club Lounge Mumbai Airport Terminal 1

Last Updated on April 6, 2021 by Soumya

On my recent trip to Bhubaneswar with my little one, I decided to explore the TFS Travel Club Lounge at Terminal 1 of Mumbai’s Chatrapatti Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) . Low frill airlines such as Indigo and Go Air fly from this terminal. The last time I had traveled from this terminal, I had to eat a disappointing blueberry cheesecake. This time I was looking for something better. And I was pleasantly surprised to find an elaborate TFS Travel Club Lounge in this section.

Travel Club Lounge Mumbai Terminal 1 | Stories by Soumya #tfs #travelclubloungemumbai #loungereview #mumbai #chatrapatishivajiinternationalairport

Here’s my review of the Travel Club Lounge at Mumbai CSIA Terminal 1.

About tsf travel club lounge.

The Travel Club Lounge at Mumbai T1 is operated by TFS (Travel Food Services) , a leading F&B operator in India’s travel retail segment. TFS has a number of Travel Club Lounges across many Indian airports. Mumbai Domestic & International, Chennai, Kolkata, and Nagpur are a few of those.

Travel Club Lounge Mumbai Terminal 1 | Stories by Soumya

At Mumbai’s Domestic Airport in Navpada Ville Parle, TFS’ Travel Club Lounge is located at Terminal 1C which is the aerobridges section of Terminal 1 . It is directly opposite Gate #22 on the first floor. We were lucky to be assigned to Gate #24 this time and that gave us an opportunity to experience the hospitality of this lounge. If you are assigned to one of the ground floor gates (no aerobridge section) at Mumbai T1, then you cannot access the Travel Club Lounge from there.

Access to Travel Club Lounge, Mumbai T1

You can access the Travel Club Lounge at Mumbai T1 with your Priority Pass . As of Jan 2019, Mastercard holders can also access the lounge . Children under 4 are allowed free entry.

You can also pay at the door. The most recent (as on 19th March 2019) walk-in rate for the lounge is INR 950 . This price is inclusive of all applicable taxes.

Layout & Decor

The Travel Club Lounge on T1C is quite spacious. The lounge reception is located right at the entrance on your left. As you enter the lounge, you will see a slightly elevated drinks and dining area in front of you. The bar is right behind it.

On the left is a bigger dining area for travelers, families, and other groups. On the left corner of this dining area, two buffet tables are neatly arranged in an inverted L shape. In front is a salad bar featuring cold items. On the right, is an interesting addition – an Indian Chaat counter . Chaat is a savory snack that is relished at streetside stalls in India. If you wish to feel the pulse of India, you eat Chaat!

Beyond the dining and kitchen areas are located separate washrooms for men and women.

As you enter the lounge, on your left, you will find an open seating area as well as an enclosed space with sofas and lounge chairs that can be easily used for meetings and private discussions.

I especially loved the decor of this place. It is contemporary and smart. Large, white, leaf-patterned panels have been used as separators between sections. You will see more of them on the right.

There is an assortment of chairs including plush sofas, lounge chairs, and bar stools. The ones in the dining area were pretty comfortable. Walls feature a couple of antique clocks. On the wall of the enclosed part of the lounge is an antique representation of the world map.

Food & Drinks

We were at the Travel Club Lounge between 3:30 – 4:30 pm on Tuesday, the 19th of March. The food & drinks section is representative of what was available at that time. It may vary between times and between days.

The salad bar featured green salad, fresh fruits, Pita sticks, hummus, and other Middle-Eastern specialties . There was also a hot soup on the counter. I liked the cold counter. The Pita sticks were great and so were the hummus and roasted potatoes.

The buffet was laid around 4 pm and included plenty of hot Indian dishes such as Masala Podi Idlis (my choicest dish there), Upma, Sambar, Bread Chops, and Sabudana Pops. There were also a couple of fusion dishes such as barbequed chicken wings and spicy pasta. Overall, the buffet was okay. None of the dishes really wowed me apart from the Masala Podi Idli and the accompanying coconut chutney.

At the Chaat counter, you will find many chaat varieties such as Papri Chaat and Bhel Puri. There is usually a Chef Special every day and the one on the day of our travel was Pav Bhaji. I did not taste any of the chaats which is why I cannot comment on their qualities.

Have you tasted the Burmese Chaat yet? Locally known as “Thoke”, it is quite a popular dish in Myanmar. Read all about it on our article on Myanmar Traditional Food .

Travel Club Lounge Mumbai Terminal 1 | Stories by Soumya

And last but not least, we arrive at drinks. The tea and coffee counter is right next to the buffet. At the starting point of the buffet, you will usually spot a couple of juices such as orange and maybe a variant of detox water. Bottled water, juices, and soft drinks are available next to the Coffee counter. The bar is right in front of the entrance. Alcoholic drinks need to be paid for.

Other Amenities

  • Toilets are located at the left far end of the lounge, beyond the dining and kitchen area.
  • Charging points are available at all sofas and dining tables.
  • WiFi is available.
  • You also have access to newspapers and magazines. The newspaper stall is located near the wall that features the world map wallpaper.
  • Flight Information Monitor and Television are available within the premises.

Opening Hours

The lounge is open 24 hours a day. I was here between 3:30 – 4:30 pm on a weekday. And it was not very crowded. That was probably because the lounge is still very new and is located in an area where there aren’t too many gates. Let’s hope things remain the same for times to come.

Travel Club Lounge Mumbai Terminal 1 | Stories by Soumya

Final Verdict

I would recommend the Travel Club Lounge at Mumbai T1. It is like a breath of fresh air in the otherwise not so interesting part of the airport. Food options at this terminal are scarce. Hence, this lounge provides a welcome change even though the food was not that great at the 4 pm buffet. I would love to try some of the dishes at other times of the day. The Chaat counter is definitely something to look out for . Seating space is also quite huge and hence, the place does not look very crowded at most times. I am definitely going back here the next time I have to board a flight from Terminal 1C.

Can I access travel club lounge of Mumbai Terminal-1 with my HDFC Regallia visa credit card ?? And Can My wife access this lounge with other name credit card??

Hi Jatin, I suggest you check with your bank regarding the HDFC Regalia access since these things keep on changing. Your bank should have the most updated info. Regarding your wife accessing the lounge with an other name credit card, she can if the credit card is in your name and you are traveling with her. If she is traveling alone and she has somebody else’s credit card, they won’t allow her.

Can you access this lounge if you are arriving at the Airport and not departing? I am reaching Mumbai T1 on Friday morning, and spending two days in the city before my onward flight from T2. I would like to stop by at this lounge in T1 on my arrival on Friday, is it possible?

Sorry for the late reply Arch. Your comment went into my spam folder! No, you cannot access this lounge when arriving. So that’s not possible. Hope you had a good time in Mumbai.

very nicely done and informative Soumya…Cheers, Rajesh

Thanks Rajesh

Very nice review.Loved the shots.

Thank you very much.

However, not all airport lounges are created equal. Some provide luxurious five-star amenities, while others may be more no-frills. And it doesn’t always pay to go premium. A recent investigation by Which? into UK airport lounges revealed that despite charging upwards of £40, some lounges lack essentials like toilets, quiet zones or family areas.  That’s why it’s essential to know how you get into the best airport lounges without breaking the bank. Here are five ways to get airport lounge access.

1. Credit card rewards

Credit cards can be your golden ticket to accessing airport lounges. Travel credit cards often come with lounge access as a perk, letting you enjoy a bit of pre-flight luxury for a small fee. Some services extend beyond lounges, where you also get discounts on restaurants that are within the airport terminal. But how exactly do you access this perk?

Here are a few ways you can use credit cards to their maximum potential when it comes to lounge access:

American Express lounges

American Express (Amex) credit cards regularly feature in our best cards to use for travel guide. For instance, with The Platinum Card from Amex, card members can access over 1,400 airport lounges across 650 cities in 140 countries.

This includes access to the Centurion Network, which is known as one of the flashiest lounges with top-quality service. They offer amenities from high-speed Wi-Fi to gourmet meals and cocktails, spa services and even conference rooms for business meetings. At the moment, there are 24 Centurion Lounges worldwide, including New York, London, Hong Kong, Mumbai and Sydney. This does come at a price, of course, the annual fee for the Platinum Card from American Express is £650.

You can get some free lounge passes if you’re an Amex Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card member. With this, you can get four complimentary Priority Pass airport lounge visits per year. It’s a great deal if you’re not a frequent flyer.

Capital One lounges

If you hold a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card , you can visit one of its all-inclusive lounges with unlimited complimentary access for you and two more guests per visit. It offers premium chef-inspired food, relaxation and fitness spaces and custom cocktail bars. You can visit one of their lounges in Washington (Dulles), Denver, New York and Las Vegas. Holders of the Venture X card also get a free Priority Pass membership with access to over 1,400 airport lounges in nearly 150 countries.

Chase lounges

In recent months, Chase – a MoneyWeek Readers' Choice favourite , has pulled some of its best savings deals due to a Bank of England interest rate cut. However, Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card holders are still in luck. You can take advantage of complimentary lounge access to 1,300+ airport lounges worldwide with up to two guests. If you hold a Priority Pass from another credit card, you can visit Chase lounges in the US once a year.

While the annual fee for the card is high ($550), you also receive up to $300 in annual travel credit and significant welcome bonuses, which can help justify the expenses.

2. Get a membership

For those who don’t think they will get their money’s worth out of a credit card, consider purchasing a membership to an airport lounge. Executive Lounges by Swissport offers a membership of £260 a year, though you’d need to use it at least 15 times to get your money’s worth.

Alternatively, a Priority Pass could be a better fit. This pass grants access to over 1,600 lounges worldwide, from JFK and Heathrow to Doha, Hong Kong and Sydney. You don’t need to be a business class flyer. Anyone can buy a membership, and you get services like spas, sleeping pods and fine dining to elevate your journey.

Many credit cards like the Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card also let cardholders register for Priority Pass Select memberships.

Here are the three different Priority Pass memberships depending on how frequently you travel:

If you’re not a frequent flyer, a lower-tier membership like DragonPass might be more beneficial. Starting at £68 for a Classic membership with an additional £24 for each guest, you get one free lounge visit included, and depending on your plan, up to eight free visits a year.

But if you’re going to use a lounge more than a handful of times a year, you might find better value in a credit card that offers lounge access, given the extra perks on top.

3. Fly premium

Your boarding pass can make all the difference. Many airlines offer VIP lounge access to first-class and business-class passengers, like the Admirals Clubs by American Airlines, Sky Clubs by Delta Air Lines and United Clubs by United Airlines. However, note that for domestic and short-haul flights, a business class ticket might not always grant lounge access – you often need to be flying internationally.

Some airlines really go the extra mile for their top-tier flyers. Cathay Pacific's The Wing, First, for example, is a first-class lounge with an à la carte menu, champagne bar, private workstations and luxurious cabanas with rain showers. Similarly, Air France’s La Première lounge offers fine dining, beauty and botanical treatments, and even a personal chauffeur who drops you off at the airport. But be prepared to splash out – this lounge can set you back around €800 (or £673) for access.

4. Have airline elite status

Airlines often reward their most loyal customers with an ‘elite status’. This is basically where you get a host of benefits depending on how frequently you fly with them, and the rewards can range from complimentary checked baggage to priority check-in and even free access to its lounges.

For example, British Airways extends complimentary lounge access to Emerald and Sapphire level members of any Oneworld airline frequent flyer programme on a flight operated by BA or a Oneworld partner. United Airlines provides United Club access to Premier Gold, Platinum and 1K members flying internationally on Star Alliance flights, with one guest allowed.

5. Tap into your packaged bank account perks

Packaged bank accounts , while they come for a monthly fee, can offer great value. From just around £15, you could get travel and home insurance , car breakdown cover , cashback, freebies and some of the best savings rates . In some cases, you can also get free access to airport lounges, which can be a great perk if you travel often.

The Barclays Travel Plus Pack , for instance, costs £22.50 per month and gives you six free airport lounge passes annually, valid at over 1,000 lounges. The NatWest Premier Reward Black account with a £36 monthly fee also offers lounge access, but not everyone is eligible. You need to pre-book your lounge entry for £5 per person via the DragonPass Premier Plus app, and it costs £24 to bring a guest.

How to get one-time airport lounge access

If you’re only after a one-off visit, a single lounge pass might be cheaper than buying food and drinks at the airport. Sites like Lounge Pass , LoungePair and Holiday Extras let you book these, or you can book directly through lounges such as No1 Lounges or Executive Lounges by Swissport .

Prices usually start around £20 but can vary depending on the lounge and its services. As a rule of thumb, it’s best to book in advance, as prices on the day of travel are typically more expensive.

If you’re unsure about which airport lounge you’re looking for, it’s a good idea to check directly with the airport you’re going to be visiting.

Can you get airport lounge access for free?

Sometimes. If you’re flying business or first-class, or have a credit card that includes lounge access (like the Platinum Card from American Express Gold), you could get in for free. Some lounge memberships also allow free entry for guests, and military members often enjoy complimentary access.

Ultimately, whether you’re looking to relax in style or just dodge the crowds, there’s an option out there to suit every traveller. Bon voyage!

You can do this through the benefits section of your online Amex account or by calling the number on the back of your card.

After enrollment, show your Priority Pass membership card and same-day boarding pass to access eligible lounges. Most lounges also accept digital membership cards using the Priority Pass app. You can bring up to two complimentary guests into the lounges, subject to space limitations.
