Generic Beam Array

Beam Arrays are directed energy starship weapons dealing damage to a single target (2 targets while Beams: Fire at Will is active) within a 250° base targeting arc (widens to 360° for Beam Arrays with [Arc] modifier). They deal the maximum damage when 2km or closer to the target, although they can still deal some damage that decreases with distance up to their maximum 10km range (distance damage penalty can be mitigated by improving captain's Long-Range Targeting Sensors skill). Beam Arrays can be mounted in both the fore and aft sections of a starship. Beam Arrays have a much wider targeting arc than Dual Beam Banks , but have a lower damage potential. Beam Arrays are standard space weapons, and all newly acquired starships come with at least one.

There are several types of Beam Array available, each of which are listed below. Each type of Beam Array offers a different proc (random chance for an attack bonus). The damage done by these weapons is modified by several Modifiers , Skills from the skill tables and certain Consoles . The baseline damage is dependent on the weapon's Mark level and its rarity .

  • Phaser : 2.5% chance to disable a random subsystem
  • Disruptor : 2.5% chance to lower the targets hull damage resistance by 10% for 15 sec
  • Plasma : 2.5% chance to apply a non-stacking damage-over-time debuff
  • Polaron : 2.5% chance to reduce all enemy subsystem power levels by 25
  • Tetryon : 2.5% chance to deal additional shield damage
  • Antiproton : +20 to Critical Severity

Modifiers [ | ].

Uncommon Beam Array will have one modifier suffix, Rare will have two, Very Rare will have three, and Ultra Rare will have four. Epic adds a fifth unique modifier.

Standard Modifiers: Can appear multiple times (e.g. [Acc]x2, [CrtH]x3, [CrtD]x4 etc)

  • [Acc] : +10 Accuracy Rating
  • [CrtD] : +20% Critical Severity
  • [CrtH] : +2% Critical Chance
  • [Dmg] : +X Damage
  • Re-engineering options: [Acc], [CrtD], [CrtH], [Dmg].

Special Crafted Wide-Arc Modifier: This modifier is guaranteed to appear once only on specially crafted Mk XII Beam Array of Very Rare quality and higher:

  • [Arc] : Wider targeting arc (360' for Beam arrays, 90' for Dual Heavy Cannons)
  • Re-engineering options: this modifier cannot be re-engineered.

Special Crafted Modifiers: These modifiers can appear once on crafted Beam Array of Rare quality and higher:

  • [Over] : [Beam] 2.5% Chance: Upgrades your next beam attack. Deals massive Energy Damage, but drains your Weapon Power.
  • [Pen] : All attacks with this weapon ignore 10 Armor Rating
  • [Rapid] : [Cannon/Turret] 2.5% Chance: Activates Rapid Fire mode for all cannons on your ship for 2 seconds
  • [Snare] : to target: -5% Speed and Turn Rate on hit
  • [Thrust] : to self: +5% Speed and Turn Rate when firing
  • Re-engineering options: these modifiers cannot be re-engineered.

Epic Modifier: All energy weapons upgraded to Epic quality receive:

  • [Ac/Dm] : +10 Accuracy Rating and +X Damage
  • Re-engineering options: [Ac/Dm], [Ac/CrtD], [Ac/CrtH], [CrtD/Dm], [CrtH/CrtD], [CrtH/Dm].

All values given are for Common Beam Array at 100 Weapon Power . There is greater damage with increasing rarity .

    Procs are bad in STO, this is should be no different. edit: and thinking on it, I'm sure there's some 2 piece that has a turret that with your dmg mods adding to the turrets damage and the 2 piece bonus it'll come out ahead of the KCB even with no firing mode support. So I'd say the KCB on a DBB ship still prolly wouldn't be worth running.

    There's pretty much no reason why you WOULDN'T want a kinetic cutting beam. 360 degree arc and respectable DPS, certainly more DPS than a turret. And because it's a kinetic weapon, once your opponent's shields drop, you're doing CONSIDERABLE damage to their hull, especially considering the fact that it's a 360-arc weapon.

    Most people don't, no. But if you do use it 100% get the assimilated module (which is good regardless). The 2-piece set bonus decent, but unless you're already using the KCB it's not worth shooting for. If you're already using though, it's great and the console is amazing. The console is actually good to use even on its own.
