In addition to his pair of Hero titles, Hovland is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour and two-time winner on the DP World Tour. Hovland took home the top-prize of $1 million, with Scheffler earning $375,000.

golf challenge tour prize money breakdown 2022

Despite being an unauthorized PGA Tour event, the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas is one of the most significant events of the entire year. Pro golfer, Tiger Woods, is hosting the event, which is taking place between December 1–4. In the line-up of the field, we have ten major champions. The line-up also includes seven players ranked in the top 10 in the OWGR. However, people have big hopes for Jon Rahm as the odds are +500 for the golfer.

The five-time champion of the event, Woods, will not be part of the match. The 46-year-old golfer withdrew from the competition on accounts of plantar fasciitis on his right foot. Fans were sad about the announcement. However, he will focus on his hosting duties. Talking about last year, Viktor Hovland took home the winner’s share of $1 million by defeating Scottie Scheffler. Who will walk away with the big prize in 2022? Only time will tell.

Are you ready for the Hero World Challenge?

This year, the field includes the 2018 winner Jon Rahm , who bagged the second position in 2019. Lately, the Spanish golfer has been in dominant form. He took home the DP World Tour Championship by performing great at Dubai’s Earth Course. He will ensure that his excellent record is not hindered and that he wins the Hero World Challenge again.

Another player in focus is Tony Finau , who has been on fire lately. He has registered three victories since July under his name. The PGA Tour’s Houston Open was the most recently played, two weeks back. Other than Finau, 2014 champion Jordan Spieth and world number six, Xander Schauffele , will also compete for the trophy. Justin Thomas , Matt Fitzpatrick, and Collin Morikawa are also playing to take home the big check.

Cameron Young, the PGA Tour’s Rookie of the Year, and Tom Kim, unquestionably two more players to watch in 2022, are also participants. In other changes, Will Zalatoris, who was included in the original field, is replaced by Shane Lowry, the champion of the BMW PGA Championship, and Corey Conners replaced Hideki Matsuyama.

Purse and breakdown of the event

The prize pool is $3.5 million, and the winner will take home $1 million. The runner-up will also return home with $350,000, so even the second spot is good. Not just that, golfers will be able to earn other benefits and prizes. The Hero World Challenge will provide OWGR points as well. The event also supports the Tiger Woods Foundation. Therefore, the event for a good cause has big numbers to play for.

Challenge Tour unveils 2023 schedule with record-breaking prize fund and 29 events

11.26am 15th December 2022 - Sponsorship & Events

ll8bh63kjyrckov59nd6

The European Challenge Tour has announced its schedule for 2023, with Europe’a second tier tour set to feature a record overall prize fund and a minimum of 29 tournaments staged across three continents in 18 different countries.

Players will compete for total prize money of €8.2m, which will begin with the Bain’s Whisky Cape Town Open in February, the first of four co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour in South Africa.

India returns as a host country for the first time since 2013 with two events in March, the Duncan Taylor Black Bull Challenge followed by The Challenge presented by KGA.

The Challenge Tour also returns to the UAE in April for the first time since 2018 with back-to-back events, including the Abu Dhabi Challenge, as part of the European Tour group’s long-term partnership with the Emirates Golf Federation.

It will then head to Spain in May for the Challenge de España, which will kick-start a run of 20 tournaments in 22 weeks and see the Road to Mallorca travel through 15 countries in Europe, including Italy for the Italian Challenge at Golf Nazionale, the venue which will then host the first two days of the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup in September.

The 2023 season will conclude with the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A, at Club de Golf Alcanada from November 2-5, as the top 45 players on the Rankings battle it out for one of the life changing 20 DP World Tour cards.

Those 20 players who benefit from this formal pathway to the DP World Tour will then be eligible for the DP World Tour’s Earnings Assurance Programme, guaranteeing them minimum earnings of $150,000 for the 2024 season if they play in 15 or more events. The top five graduates will also benefit from the John Jacobs Bursary, similarly designed to provide security and a strong platform for their first season on the European Tour group’s top tier.

Hero World Challenge Purse, Prize Money And Field

Tiger Woods may be missing, but there’s still a strong field for the event, including 2021 winner Viktor Hovland

Hero World Challenge 2022 Prize Money

Hero world challenge field 2022.

The Hero World Challenge takes place at Albany in the Bahamas, with some of the world’s best players among the 20-man field.

One player who is missing is five-time winner of the tournament, Tiger Woods. The 46-year-old has developed plantar fasciitis in his right foot , meaning the tournament’s host has been forced to withdraw. That leaves a place for World No.29 Sepp Straka.

Last year, Norwegian Viktor Hovland won by one shot over American Scottie Scheffler to claim the winner’s share of $1m. Both players return for this year’s tournament, but they will face stiff competition if they are to finish as high up the leaderboard.

Jon Rahm , who won the tournament in 2018 and finished runner-up the year after, is also in the field. The Spaniard has been in excellent form of late, including winning the DP World Tour Championship at Dubai’s Earth Course earlier in the month. He’ll be confident of continuing that impressive form and claiming his second Hero World Challenge title.

Another player who has been in top form in recent months is Tony Finau . The American has three wins since July, with the most recent being the PGA Tour’s Houston Open just over two weeks ago . Jordan Spieth, who won the tournament in 2014, is also appearing, as is World No.6 Xander Schauffele. There are three other players from the world’s top 10 participating this week – World No.8 Justin Thomas, World No.9 Matt Fitzpatrick and World No.10 Collin Morikawa.

Another player to keep an eye on will be PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Cameron Young , while Tom Kim, undoubtedly another of the breakout stars of 2022, also appears. Elsewhere, BMW PGA Championship winner Shane Lowry replaces Will Zalatoris, who was named in the original field, while Corey Conners comes in for Hideki Matsuyama .

Players will be competing for a $3.5m purse, with the winner once again claiming $1m and the runner-up earning $350,000. Meanwhile, it’s not just prize money that players can earn. That’s because even though the Hero World Challenge, which benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation, is not an official PGA Tour event, Official World Golf Ranking points are on offer.

The Ally Challenge field is headed by KJ Choi, Stewart Cink, Mike Weir and more.

This tournament started with 78 players, and a cut was not made this week after two rounds. Every professional player in the field is paid for completing the event, but how much each player is paid at the 2024 Ally Challenge from the correct 2024 Ally Challenge full-field payout is based on their finish.

Every player still in the field can improve their position in the final round of this 54-hole event on the PGA Tour Champions schedule .

What else is on the line

Beyond money, there are important points, perks and benefits on the line for the field -- in particular, the tournament winner.

There are no Official World Golf Ranking points on the line in PGA Tour Champions events.

While this event offers a significant payday, a win comes with the benefits that come with winning on the PGA Tour Champions. Winners of these events get better status and access on tour.

Here's What Each Player Will Earn From 2024 Tour Championship's $100 Million Jackpot Purse

Jeff ritter | aug 29, 2024.

East Lake is once again the site of the season-ending Tour Championship, where $100 million in prize money is up for grabs

The 2024 PGA Tour season wraps this week with the Tour Championship at East Lake, and the finale is also a huge-money week for the 30 Tour pros who advanced to the playoffs' final round. A staggering $100 million in prize money is up for grabs.

The winner this week will claim a $25 million bonus, which is a $7 million jump from Viktor Hovland's first-place prize from this event in 2023. Second place this week will bag $12.5 million and third will take $7.5 million. Scottie Scheffler started the event as the betting favorite , no surprise given that he also started at 10 under par, good for a two-shot advantage thanks to his status as the top-ranked player in the standings. Xander Schauffele, second in the standings, began at 8 under, while third-place Hideki Matsuyama started at 7 under. Players ranked 26-30 began the event at even par. The Tour Championship has used this staggered-start format since 2019, when the winner received $15 million.

Every player in the field who cracks the top 12 this week will earn at least $1 million. Last place pays $550,000.

Despite the staggered start, there's usually room for players to make moves at East Lake as the course traditionally yielded low scores. But this year it could play much differently thanks to a massive redesign .

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2022 DP World Tour Championship

1442985164

Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy pose with their trophies after the end of the DP World Tour Championship. Rahm claimed the tournament title while McIlroy won the season-long points race.

Andrew Redington

To say Jon Rahm loves playing the DP World Tour Championship on the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates would be the understatement of understatements. The 28-year-old Spaniard had two wins and a T-4 showing in his three previous starts in the Old World circuit’s season finale, posting a scoring average of 67.66.

It was more of the same this week, as Rahm followed up an opening-round 70 with a 66-65-67 finish to take the tournament title for a third time, outpacing Tyrrell Hatton and Alex Noren by two shots. In the process, he lowered that career scoring average to 67.5.

It was Rahm’s ninth career DP World Tour victory and fifth win in the tour’s elevated Rolex Series events. With the triumph, Rahm claimed the $3 million first-place prize money payout (€2,891,271) from the overall purse of $10 million. Why did the PGA Tour and LIV Golf merge? Here's a full breakdown

Everything you need to know about the pga tour and liv golf merger is right here, by logan reardon • published june 6, 2023 • updated on june 6, 2023 at 12:05 pm.

The golf world was stunned on Tuesday morning.

In a shocking twist, the PGA Tour announced it would merge with the controversial LIV Golf in order to "unify the game of golf." The merger also includes the DP World Tour, which is the PGA's European Tour.

Tuesday's news answers the question of will LIV Golf survive, as the Saudi-backed tour struggled to maintain relevance despite heavy funding and the signings of star players.

Here's a full breakdown of the merger, including details on LIV Golf and what happens next:

When did LIV Golf form?

LIV Golf was founded in 2021 before playing its inaugural season in 2022.

The tour was owned by the Public Investment Fund, which is Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund. Two-time major champion Greg Norman served as CEO and the public face of the league.

Why did LIV golfers leave the PGA?

There were a few benefits for players joining LIV Golf.

First and foremost, golfers received massive money from the PIF. Phil Mickelson reportedly signed a $200 million contract to join LIV, while Dustin Johnson ($150 million), Bryson DeChambeau ($125 million), Brooks Koepka ($100 million) and Cameron Smith ($100 million) also reached nine-figure bonuses.

After signing their contracts just to join, players were awarded increased prize money during their tournaments. It was a clear message to the PGA Tour that players felt they were not being compensated fairly.

Beyond just the money, there were several other benefits that players saw with LIV. They played fewer tournaments each year (14 were scheduled for 2023 compared to 47 PGA events), with smaller fields and three rounds instead of four in each tournament.

LIV also utilized shotgun starts, meaning that every player began their round at the same time on different holes -- which meant the days were shorter.

What is the LIV Golf controversy?

The concern about LIV Golf was always about where the money came from.

Saudi Arabia funded the tour. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been involved in multiple controversies, including human rights violations of his own people, the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the government's alleged involvement in the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S.

The ethics of players taking money from the country has been debated endlessly since players started defecting. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have both been outspoken against the league, with the latter reportedly turning down between $700 and $800 million to join.

A LIV Golf timeline

The PGA's rival tour is coming to an end but let's look back at some of the highlights over the last two years.

LIV Golf Announces TV Partnership With CW Network

While PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan previously condemned LIV Golf and discouraged players from taking their money, the merger seems to be a sellout of sorts. As part of the agreement, the PIF will contribute a "significant financial investment, toward minority equity ownership of a new, collectively held, for-profit LLC." The PIF will make a financial investment to become a premier corporate sponsor of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

What happens with PGA and LIV lawsuits now?

As part of the merger, PGA and LIV mutually agreed to end all pending litigation between the parties.

LIV sued the PGA last year for allegedly engaging in monopolistic behavior by creating rules intended to stop golfers from playing in rival leagues. PGA sought subpoenas for a countersuit alleging that LIV illegally pushed players to break contracts with the PGA by offering exorbitant sums of money.

The case was expected to go to trial next May, but that obviously will not happen after the merger.

What happens to PGA and LIV golfers now?

Here's what was said in the official announcement :

"The three organizations will work cooperatively and in good faith to establish a fair and objective process for any players who desire to re-apply for membership with the PGA TOUR or the DP World Tour following the completion of the 2023 season and for determining fair criteria and terms of re-admission, consistent with each Tour's policies."

LIV Golfers were already eligible to play in major championships, so the merger doesn't change anything there. Koepka became the first LIV Golf player to win a major when he triumphed at the PGA Championship last month.
