I don't know what it is normally like to drive an RV. But this "Compact-size class C motor home" we rented from Cruise America in Hastings... beep, shake, rattle and roll for the extended drive we were on. We had alarms randomly going off inside the van (CO, LP). Seats are so uncomfortable and rickety, I dreaded driving or riding in the thing. We mentioned the issues upon the RV return, the owner thanked us & said they would look into it. Maybe this type of RV rental would be more ideal for a short drive rather than a 7 hour one we had... Also, pick up time for the RV is 4pm and return time is 11am. Pick it up the day before you leave to give yourself plenty of time to set it up. And, if you do decide to rent from here, when you are getting ready to return your RV give yourself plenty of time. You will need to fill the gas tank, fill the propane and dump out the sewage if you don't want additional fees. Emptying the sewage at Hastings public works was enough to make me decide not to do the RV thing again... .

Let me start by saying I love supporting family ran business'. This place has amazing customer service, not 1 complaint! They had all sorts of rental items but for me the friendly family atmosphere sold it.

My Rv rental went well. I will be renting again. RVs are not for everyone, but its worth the experience at least once. Big Thanks to the Hastings Staff!!

Don't rent from Cruise America!!! We had terrible experience with this company. This was our first time renting a RV. We reserved a RV from the Hastings, MN rental site. The RV was dirty inside and out, the front clearance lights were not working (illegal to operate without these), there was a 6 FOOT crack across the windshield and there were still belongings inside from the previous renters. The guys on site were nice and tried to be helpful, but we spent 3 HOURS there waiting for these problems to be fixed (this was on the day we were supposed to leave on our vacation). When we contacted Cruise America, the staff was very rude and disrespectful. No apologies for our wasted time and the problems with the RV. When I expressed concern about the crack in the windshield and wondered who would pay if we were pulled over and got a ticket, the Cruise America person told me that we would have to pay the ticket or we "could use the legal system" to get Cruise America to pay it. I asked twice to speak with a Cruise America manager and the person on the phone refused to transfer me. We ended up cancelling our Cruise America rental because of the way we were treated. Left on our vacation a day late. Instead we rented from Brambilla's in Shakopee and got a great, clean RV and had wonderful customer service.

Can You Live in an RV in the Winter? 

Yes, it is possible to live in an RV during the winter, but it comes with some challenges. The key is ensuring your RV is properly insulated and equipped for cold weather. This includes having a reliable heating system, such as a furnace or electric space heater, to keep the interior warm. You'll also need to take precautions to prevent the freezing of water pipes and tanks, which can be achieved through insulation and using heated hoses or heat tape. 

Additionally, it's important to be prepared for inclement weather and have a plan for staying safe and comfortable during storms or sub-zero temperatures. With the right preparations and equipment, living in an RV during the winter can be an adventurous and cost-effective way to experience the season, but it requires careful planning and maintenance.  

The Dos and Don’ts of Winter RV Camping

Check the weather. If you’re camping in below-freezing temperatures, you’ll need to take extra precautions to ensure that your trip runs smoothly. Keep an eye on the weather as your trip approaches to plan accordingly. 

Find a sun-filled campsite. The more sun you can get on your RV, the less likely you’ll be spending your winter RV camping trip defrosting your entire vehicle. If possible, request a camping spot that receives plenty of sun. 

Pack extra layers. When it comes to winter RV camping, there’s no such thing as overpacking. Bring more layers than you think you’ll need — you never know when a last-minute snowstorm may hit. 

Check RV batteries . Make sure your batteries are fully charged and in good condition. The last thing you want is to be stuck in freezing temperatures with dead batteries.  

Invest in antifreeze. Antifreeze is absolutely essential for a cold-weather camping trip. Make sure your RV is ready to go with antifreeze to keep your engine running as you hit the road. 

Close cabinet doors. Any cabinets that contain plumbing should remain open. This allows for heat to circulate around the pipes and keep them from freezing. (We recommend packing a hairdryer just in case!)

Forget safety devices. If you’re planning to run space heaters, a carbon monoxide detector with fresh batteries is essential. 

Use regular wiper fluid. You’ll need wiper fluid to clear your windows of salt and snow. However, regular wiper fluid has a tendency to freeze to the window in icy conditions, so you’ll want to seek out a wiper fluid meant for these cold temperatures. 

Leave snow/ice on exhaust pipes. Unclear exhaust pipes can cause major problems with your engine. Regularly check the exhaust pipes of your RV to avoid a dead engine in the middle of your fun-filled road trip. 

Connect to full sewer hookups all the time. Your RV’s sewage pipes can, unfortunately, freeze and leave a major mess behind. You’ll want to alternate methods of clearing your sewer tank to avoid frozen sewage pipes.
