There are twenty-four early Trek brochures that can be accessed from this page. They span the period 1976 through 1995. The first seven are undated, but we collectively believe they are 1976 (or 77?), 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1981.5 and 1982. The others are marked or copyrighted 1983 through 95. A "Jazz by Trek" brochure for 1993 is included. Additionally, there are 1985 and 87 brochures that describe the early bonded aluminum bikes.

The newer brochures on this page (86 and onward), are extracts, and include detailed information only on steel road bikes. This is in keeping with the theme of this site and also helps limit required server space and scanning time. However, the specifications pages in the newer extracts do contain specifications on non-steel road bikes, multi-track bikes, and mountain bikes . Additionally, the table of Trek models by year includes virtually all Trek bikes from 1976 through 2005.

IMPORTANT NEWS: We recently received over 130 catalogs and technical manuals covering the Trek brands. The collection includes: Trek (1984-2012); Gary Fisher (1988-2010); Klein (1989-2008), and LeMond (1996-2008). These are accessed from this separate page: Trek, Fisher, Klein and LeMond .

S pecifications and pictures for 2003 and newer Treks are available on the excellent Trekbikes.com web site archives . A massive database of 1993 to current bicycle specs and photographs is available on the BikePedia.com web site. The information includes specifications of Trek bikes from 1993 as well.

An interesting document is given in the 1989 section below. It has no cover nor title page, but we have titled it tentatively "Dealer Information for Trek Bicycles 1989". It provides instructions and information to dealers and sales persons concerning the 1989 bikes and how to sell them. In its 30 pages are included frame geometries and gear ratios for all of the 89 bikes.

At the bottom of the page, five Trek Owner's Manuals are also included. The first came with a 1980 bike, the second with a 1981 bike, the third is probably from 1983, the forth came with a 1985 bike, and the fifth is marked 7-88.

A note about components - Trek occasionally changed the components from what were described in the brochures; improved parts became available during the year or specified parts became unavailable. In the case of unavailable parts, Trek invariably substituted better parts.

The table below contains links to the brochures. The images on this page show the cover graphics.

Contributors: The 1977 frame and bike catalog was loaned by Dave Evans. The 79, 80, 81, 83, 85, and 87 catalogs were loaned by John Keller, the 1981.5 catalog by Mark Crabtree. Larry Osborn contributed the 84 catalog. The 1980 Trek Owner's Manual was loaned by Tim Fricker, the 1983 PDF owner's manual was provided by Bradley Chauvin, the PDF of the 1985 Owner's Manual was provided by Brad Ziegler, and the 1988 PDF manual and 86 Warranty Registration Card were provided by Michael A. Roberts. The 90, 91, 92, and 93 catalogs were donated by Tom Meara. The 1982 Model 311 flyer was contributed by Lou Miranda. Tom Marshall provided the "Dealer Information for Trek Bicycles 1989" document. Dave and Lynn Breitlow donated 1984 to 89 catalogs. Our heartfelt thanks to all these contributors.

All of the brochures are provided in Adobe Acrobat Reader PDF format. If you do not have the free Acrobat PDF reader software, it can be downloaded from the Adobe site: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html . In addition, many of the brochures are also provided as web (HTML) pages.

Some of the HTML pages have detail that is difficult to read in the standard sized images. For these pages, one views enlarged versions by clicking on the image. The enlargements are approximately 1200 x 1600 pixels. In the PDF versions, it is easier to zoom in and out.

Buy new or upgrade old?

  • Add to quote

I am a relatively new cyclist, and want to maximize my riding enjoyment. Am I better off buying a new bike or upgrading my old one (I don't have money to do both)? Here's my situation: 1. I am riding a 1995 Trek 720 MultiTrack with a chro-moly frame and fork. Components are Shimano Acera and Altus (sp?), with 21 speeds, a relatively small set of chain rings and straight bar handlebars. 2. I use the bike primarily for commuting; 12-27 miles each way, depending on the route. The shorter ride is primarily up and down hills over both bumpty and smooth road; the longer one has more level or slight uphill riding. 3. The weather can go from sunny in the summer to rainy cold in the winter. 4. I also want to ride in the Seattle-to-Portland in the summer--a 180-mile two-day event. Would I be better off spending to change out the components to Shimano 105s, get a larger set of chainrings and a 9 or 10 gear cassette, or would I be off spending to buy a new cyclocross bike with a healthy assortment of Shimano 105 components? If I buy a new bike, I would still use my old one for foul weather commuting. I'd also be interested in people's opinions on models I should consider--I would prefer something with drop bars and road tires (28s or so). I'm thinking in the $1,000-$1,400 range. Thanks.

Buy new. And if you're still gonna use your old bike for foul weather/commutes, consider getting a road bike instead of a cross bike.

Road bike vs. cyclocross bike Thanks DP and Henry, that is what I thought. Henry, it is interesting that you suggest considering a road bike, since I am doing just that. Given my commute needs, I have to have a rack for panniers, and fenders are probably a good idea. I've been looking at the Giant OCR 1 & 2, since it looks like they will at least accomodate a rack. Can either of you--or anyone else--suggest any other road bikes that might do the trick? (My LBS carries Raleigh and Trek road bikes, but it didn't look like the Trek can accomodate a rack; I don't know about the Raleigh.) Thanks for the help.

A cross/touring bike will allow you to run bigger tires & fenders than a 'road' bike, which is probably desirable for your stated uses. the surly crosscheck is pretty yummy and kona makes some nice offerings too. Those old Multi-tracks do make for a nice, if heavy, 'monster cross' bike, as they can take up to a 45mm/1.8" wide tire. I built one up last year ('90ish lugged frame w/ only the frt derailler original), currently with a 10spd drivetrain, brifters & a on-one midge dropbar (ultegra STI & hubs, XT rear derailler & 53/29 oldschool square taper crankset & some oldschool canti's). The drivetrain came from a newish used road bike that didn't end up fitting me, so I stripped it & sold the frame. I've got some barend shifters, in case I decide to go that way for a more bulletproof setup. I've got two wheelsets- one from the road bike w/ fat slicks which allow fenders to fit for commuting & pothole filled roads. The 2nd wheelset is a heavy duty/29er disc ready wheelset to put beefier offroad meats on (panaracer firecross 45's do fit). I built this wheelset in anticipation of getting a real 29" mtb sometime in the future. This rig is heavy in any mode, but it's a bulletproof commuter/cross bike. I don't race and am in the clyde weightclass, so it works great for my commuting and other uses.

Trek 720 review

Understated all-road all-rounder with excellent potential

Immediate Media

Guy Kesteven

Light, rapid and potentially smooth bike with luggage included

Soft under power and it needs fatter tyres for a more forgiving ride

1995 trek 720 multitrack

At first glance the Trek 720 is a bike that very much wears its heart on its sleeve – well, if by ‘sleeve’ you mean fork legs, since that’s where you’ll find the two custom neon-yellow dry bags and the giant plastic water bottle cages they sit in.

Ample, well-thought out luggage room

That may fly in the face of the current fashion for putting weight up high in extended saddle packs, bar rolls and frame bags. But while that may keep your stuff dry through three-foot deep rivers, it’s less ideal from a handling point of view. By contrast, ensuring luggage weight is kept as low as possible, and in line with the front fork means the Trek handles well whether it’s loaded with bags or not.

And while they don’t look much at first, you’d be amazed at how much stuff you can cram into them – certainly enough to cover you for a weekend away with a roof booked over your head, or even lightweight bivvying if you just stick to the essentials. The only thing to watch is that you tighten the straps securely – especially if you’re riding light – as otherwise the bags can jump out of their clips and drag on the floor.

There’s a lot more to the 720 than its lurid luggage carriers, though. In fact, you can side-step this part of the Trek’s anatomy altogether, since unlike a conventional fixed rack, the bag mounts unclip instantly to leave you with a sub-10kg disc-braked road bike.

And a decent-quality one, too: the excellent frameset includes a fork with tapered triangular blades that sync neatly into a big rounded belly, and a flat-backed down tube complete with over-and-under bottle cage mounts.

It ends with subtly arched skinny-as-steel seatstays side-blended into the top tube in a way that looks similar to the pivoting IsoSpeed decoupler of Trek’s Domane endurance bike.

Narrow rubber doesn't do the 720 justice

That rear end and the extension afforded by the slim seatpost definitely help take some of the bumps and bruises out of rougher roads and tracks, and the broad Bontrager bar has shock-absorbing inserts under the tape to further reduce vibration and fatigue.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t shine through as clearly as it should because of the Bontrager AW1 tyres Trek has gone with. While they’re listed at 28mm, the specimens on our test bike only measured 26mm wide even on the broad, tubeless-ready rims.

Yes, that helps to keep the weight down, but means even average road surfaces felt rough compared with fatter-treaded competitors we were riding alongside the 720. Off-piste pleasure is even more limited, as the firm, thin rubber rattles and ricochets around, costing you significant speed in the process.

There’s room in the shaped stays for much wider, and a swap to 35mm transformed the Trek into a far more fun and forgiving ride. And apart from initial acceleration – which is already adequate rather than amazing due to the soft frame – it came at no obvious loss of road speed, and definitely improved rough-surface momentum and control.

As a result, we’d definitely advise bartering for a tyre swap before you buy – although given that full Shimano 105 transmission, powerful TRP hybrid disc brakes and bags are already included, the 720 still represents decent value even if you have to upsize the rubber yourself.

Frame and fork.

When it comes to biking, having a sturdy and reliable frame is key. This is no surprise since the frame is the backbone of the bike and can make a huge difference in terms of stability and control while you’re riding.

For the Trek 7200, you get a solid hybrid bike frame. This bike is made with Trek’s Alpha aluminum, which is known for its lightweight and durability. You’ll feel the difference as soon as you start pedaling, it’s that light!

trek multitrack for sale

What’s really cool about the Trek 7200 is its slightly steeper head tube angle of 71.5°. This makes it perfect for climbing hills and gives riders more confidence and balance on fast descents. You’ll be able to handle any terrain with ease!

And for the fork, the Trek 7200 is equipped with an RST CT-COM C5 fork with 50 mm of travel. For a hybrid bike like this, that’s more than enough.

While suspension isn’t usually a top priority for hybrid bikes, the suspension on the Trek 7200 is designed to absorb the bumps of trails and potholes with ease.

Finally, let’s not forget about comfort! As a hybrid bike, the main focus of the Trek 7200 is on providing comfortable rides.

You’ll appreciate the suspension and enjoy smooth rides even on rough terrain, and you’ll feel like you’re gliding on air on paved roads and smooth city streets.

Gears and Brakes

Gears are one of the most important components of any bike, as they can make a huge difference in how easy or difficult it is to ride.

Luckily, the Trek 7200 has got you covered with high-quality components from Shimano, SRAM, and Bontrager. These components provide precise shifting and braking, making for smooth and safe rides.

One of the best things about the Trek 7200 is its 8-speed rear gear. This provides a wide gear range that’s perfect for both commuting, riding around your neighborhood or even taking on rough trails.

trek multitrack for sale

You’ll always have the perfect gear to make the ride easy and enjoyable, whether on climbs or descents.

If you’re looking at an earlier model of the Trek 7200, you might find it fitted with 7-speed SRAM MRX Plus shifters and Shimano C102 front derailleur and Shimano Acera rear derailleur.

But in the later 2010 model, these components were upgraded to SRAM MRX Comp twist shifters, Shimano M191 front derailleur, and Shimano Alivio rear derailleur.

Either way, you can be sure you’re getting top-notch components that will give you efficient rides.

Now, let’s talk about the brakes. The Trek 7200 comes with Tektro linear-pull alloy brakes. These brakes are powerful and efficient, giving you the stopping power you need to stay safe on any ride. You’ll be able to stop quickly and easily, even when you’re gliding down a steep hill.

Wheels and Tires

Wheels and tires are crucial components of any bike, as they contribute to its overall performance and riding experience.

The Trek 7200 comes with a high-quality set of wheels, including an alloy front hub and a Shimano RM30 rear hub.

The Bontrager 750 rims have 32 holes and are more than strong enough for most commuters. These wheels are both durable and lightweight, and won’t weigh you down.

trek multitrack for sale

Trek 7200 has very solid tires, but depending on which model of the Trek 7200 you have, you may be riding on different tires.

The earlier models were equipped with Bontrager Invert Puncture Resistant tires, while the later 2010 model has 700x35c Bontrager H2 Plus tires with a puncture-resistant belt.

No matter which tires you have, you can expect good traction on smooth surfaces. However, on rougher terrain, the tires may not perform as well. That being said, the tires are puncture-resistant and should withstand most road hazards.

Saddle and Handlebars

The Trek 7200 comes with a soft and padded Bontrager Boulevard saddle that is perfect for long-distance commutes. What’s even better is that the saddle is attached to an alloy seatpost with adjustable suspension.

This means that your seatpost is more flexible, reducing the transfer of high-frequency road vibrations from your bike to your body. It also helps dampen the impacts of big hits from the road, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Also, the Trek 7200 comes with a Bontrager Approved handlebar made of solid steel and with a 50 mm rise.

You can always adjust the height of the handlebar to give you a comfortable fit. This means that you can ride for longer without experiencing any discomfort or strain on your back or shoulders.

Size and weight

When it comes to finding the perfect fit for your ride, the Trek 7200 hybrid bike has many sizes to choose from. With sizes ranging from 15″ to 25″, you’re sure to find the size that fits you just right.

The frame sizes are precisely 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, and 25 inches, giving you plenty of options to choose from.

And even with all the high-quality components, the Trek 7200 still manages to keep its weight down. With an average weight of about 26.4 lbs (11.9 kg), this bike is easy to handle and maneuver on the trails.

It’s not too heavy to carry around when you need to, but it’s still sturdy enough to support riders up to 275 to 300 lbs.

How much is the Trek 7200 Multitrack?

The current Trek 7200 value is estimated to be less than $100, you will most likely find one going from $65 to $110. But, keep in mind that it would be a used bike.

If you happen to find a brand-new Trek 7200, though this is very unlikely, expect the price to be from $250 to $450. It doesn’t go over $500.

Netaji's grandnephew asks PM Modi to bring back freedom fighter's mortal remains

In a letter to prime minister modi, netaji's grandnephew asked for the freedom fighter's remains to be brought back from renkoji to india..

Kolkata, Aug 17 (PTI) Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring the mortal remains of the freedom fighter from Renkoji temple in Japan to India.

West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose, asked PM Modi to bring back the freedom fighter's mortal remains from Japan. (ANI Photo)

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Bose on Saturday said "On the eve of August 18, the death anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, I once again appeal to you to bring Netaji's remains from Renkoji to India."

Netaji's grandnephew said the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has passed into the realm of legend.

Also Read : ‘Don’t distort history for political mileage': Netaji's grand nephew to Kangana Ranaut

"His magnetic personality, brilliance of mind, extraordinary courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to the cause of India's freedom have made him forever a hero in the hearts and minds of not only men and women in India, but of freedom-loving people everywhere," he said.

He said that the circumstances of his (Netaji's) death from an air crash while leaving Taiwan in a Japanese military aircraft in the aftermath of Japan's surrender in August 1945, perhaps with a plan to make his way to the Soviet Union to continue the struggle, was seen by many as just another ruse to escape his enemies.

"Close family members including beloved brother Sarat Chandra Bose under British detention in south India and widow Emilie in Vienna, continued to yearn for Subhas's return, but neither at any time had any definite knowledge of Subhas being alive after 18 August 1945", he said.

According to Netaji's grandnephew, there is no doubt of the genuine disbelief among some that Netaji perished in the manner described in a host of contemporary accounts from multiple sources.

"After all here was a man who had once given the slip to the British and undertook an arduous trek from Calcutta through north India to Afghanistan, eventually reaching Berlin by air through Moscow. Only a few years later in the midst of a raging world war, he survived an even more perilous voyage by submarine from Germany to South East Asia. How could such a man die!", Bose said.

The government of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1956 had set up a three-member inquiry committee with INA veteran General Shah Nawaz Khan in the chair, Bose said.

"For the first time, detailed information, including from eleven direct witnesses to the crash in Taiwan and then Netaji's death some hours later, was thus recorded in the official report. It is notable that there should have been so many first-hand accounts, from fellow passengers on the aircraft, Japanese military personnel on the ground beside the runway, and Japanese and Taiwanese medical staff at the hospital. Netaji's Indian military aide from the INA Colonel Habib ur Rahman who travelled with Netaji and survived the crash and aftermath, was also one of the direct witnesses," he said.

A government-appointed Khosla Commission Report of 1974 reaffirmed the 1956 Shah Nawaz findings which had been accepted by the government. The third and last government-appointed Justice Mukherjee Commission of Inquiry 2005 finding that Netaji did not die in the said air crash was found to be based on fundamental errors and the government of India thus rejected it, he said.

"It is time that the Government of India, under your able leadership has taken the initiative to declassify Netaji-related files to come to a closure. After the release of all the files (10 enquiries - national and international), it is evident that Netaji perished on August 18, 1945. It is, therefore, imperative that a final statement is made from the Government of India so that false narratives about the Liberator of India is laid to rest", he said.

Bose said, "Efforts must be made now to bring the mortal remains of an immortal Hero to his home country India, the land he liberated".
