South africa.

South Africa is all about discovery, revitalizing your spirit and reinventing your thinking. Luxurious resorts, moving township visits, open-air safari game drives and vibrant cities like Cape Town; few destinations can offer such a myriad of enriching experiences. Already an up-and-coming destination, South Africa garnered tremendous worldwide recognition after successfully hosting the 2010 World Cup. Visitors from around the globe have spread the news of this beautiful nation. And now leisure travelers are moving it to the top of their wish-lists. You’ve made a wondrous choice.

Destination must-see's.

South Africa ms1

Cape Town is the second most populated city in South Africa. It’s known for its landscapes, gardens, museums, cuisine and wine, but most importantly, it’s known for its wildlife. South Africa is a great place to see the Big Five: elephants, rhinos, leopards, lions and buffalo, as well as many species of snakes, birds and even eight different species of whales.

South Africa ms2

Referred to as “The Place of the Mountain” this Big 5 reserve also has five eco-systems. It has a moderate climate year round with rainfall in summer. The area is malaria-free and has an upper area with rock formations and grass plains, and a lower area of vegetation and wetlands.

South Africa ms3

Hanglip Mountain Lodge:

There’s never a dull moment at Hanglip Mountain Lodge! The luxury suites here are a great blend of romantic African and African baroque. There are ten luxury bedrooms, spa facilities, dining room and lounge, bar facilities, wine cellar, swimming pool, and the Hanglip fig tree outdoor venue. Every room has a private deck with views of the mountain and lounge areas with welcoming fireplaces. There are also game drives, bush walks, horseback safaris, helicopter flights, paintball; abseiling, and quad bikes.

Kruger National Park:

Imagine yourself exploring almost five million acres of protected game reserve spread out on the plains of South Africa. Here you can see the Big 5: elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards and rhinos running free out in their natural habitat. But wait! There are more than three hundred types of trees and five hundred species of birds to admire, too!

Destination Must-Do's

South Africa md1

Table Mountain:

This landmark is Africa’s most welcoming and photographed attraction and it’s no wonder why! Visitors enjoy riding to the top of the mountain by cable car where the most spectacular views can be found. The mountain is home to thousands of species of plants and flowers as well as the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. Definitely do not leave your camera behind for this trip!

South Africa md2

Featherbed Reserve (milk trees):

Located on the Knysna lagoon, there is much to see in the Featherbed Nature Reserve. You can explore the reserve riding on a 4x4 vehicle and trailer that takes visitors to key viewpoints on the reserve, or you can explore an ancient sea cave. Milk trees are extremely common here and they can grow up to six feet tall and have a spiny shrub-like look with small yellow flowers along the side.

BouldersBeach800x450

Boulders Beach:

Feel the sea breeze in your hair and the sand between your toes at Boulder’s Beach in False Bay. Aside from being a beautiful spot to lounge, swim, and picnic, it’s also the only place in the world where you can observe African Penguins in their natural habitat. A colony of these adorably furry endangered birds settled at the beach in 1982 and never left. You’ll probably want to stay a while too.

South Africa md4

Winelands Region:

South Africa has some really great wine. Visit the heart of the winelands region and take in the colorful mountains and vineyards that seem to go on for days. Don’t forget to taste some of that delicious stuff while you’re there!

Expert Advice

diana

As you prepare to explore South Africa, enjoy a casual dress style and be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes. Lightweight cottons are suggested for shorts, slacks, tee shirts, as well as hats and one warm jacket and/or jumper.

South Africa e2

You’re in for a treat as you sample the truly unique flavors of Africa. The cuisine is sometimes called "rainbow cuisine," as it enjoys a variety of multicultural sources. Eating and drinking in South Africa is a culinary experience not to be missed.

South Africa e3

One of the best parts of traveling is coming back home with souvenirs that really reflect the place you’ve just been. In South Africa you’ll find a plethora of cultural products like carvings of animals made of soap stone, ebony, or other woods; wooden masks, bowls, jewelry and chess sets; jewelry made of precious stones like diamonds and semi-precious stones such as malachite, lapis and topaz; native art paintings, murals and sculptures; safari clothing; and tie-dyed prints of animals.

South Africa FAQ's

The country is famous for its Table Mountain, Kruger National Park, and Cape Town, among other interesting things. Tremendously rich in minerals and mines, South Africa is considered a leader in the world with almost 90 percent of all the platinum metals on planet earth and about 41 percent of all the gold in the world. Contrary to the beliefs of some outsiders, South Africa is not devastatingly poor with an unstable government. Although some rural parts of South Africa remain among the poorest and the least developed parts of the world poverty in certain areas is common. The government is stable, although corruption has become prevalent in certain areas. A trip to Africa offers the classic African scenery and creatures, along with some of the world`s most luxurious private game reserves and lodges. Wildlife lovers come here from all corners of the earth in search of the 'Big Five' - lion, buffalo, leopard, rhino, and elephant.

Dragon-backed mountain ranges, coral reefs, shark dives, white-water rafting, and stunning golden-sand beaches are just some of South Africa's many attractions. Traveling around this vast country and exploring the lively cities, visitors can discover the nation's tumultuous history in Cape Town , one of the world's most beautiful cities; in Johannesburg , the city of gold offers an energetic cosmopolitan vibe; The 'Friendly City' of Port Elizabeth sits along the picturesque coastline on Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape of South Africa; the subtropical lush Hazyview is a great base to explore safari expeditions and the gateway to the magnificent Kruger National Park; and the charming town of Franschhoek is known as the 'Valley of Vines' layered with acres of centuries-old vineyards.

The best time to visit South Africa is from May to September. Winter mornings and nights are cold. May and September are wonderful because it is less cold and, especially in September, the wildlife viewing is excellent. South Africa is a year-round destination. Being in the southern hemisphere, South Africa's seasons are the opposite of European seasons. The climate is seasonal, but the country enjoys at least seven months of sunshine, with temperatures dropping in the winter months of May to August. April and May are the most temperate months. Temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit are very common in summer and frequently reach over 100 in the lower Orange River Valley and the Mpumalanga Lowveld. For more information, check out: Best Time to Visit South Africa .

We recommend 7-10 days based on what you want to see and do. We offer flexible vacation packages so you can select your number of nights in each city, desired hotel, and activities. We suggest a minimum of 3 nights in larger cities.

South Africa`s excellent infrastructure and popularity as a travel destination make it easy to navigate. The country`s most iconic spots — Kruger National Park and the city of Cape Town — are more than 1,100 miles apart, so if your visit includes these two destinations, you should expect to make at least one long-distance trip (a 2.5-hour flight or 20-hour drive). Flights, trains, and buses are all viable options, with varying price points and travel times. By Plane: With 15 regional airports around South Africa, internal flights are a great option, though prices can run high. Most in-country routes are operated by SAA or its affiliates. If you book in advance, you can often times find deals, particularly from Joburg to Cape Town. By Car: The roads in South Africa are clearly marked and well-maintained, which allows it to be relatively easy. Renting a car is a great way to get around, giving you the greatest flexibility, including the ability to visit wildlife reserves and national parks without joining a tour. Driving is on the right side of the road, making it somewhat challenging for American drivers. Local drivers can also be very aggressive, so stay alert. For example, if you see a car from the opposite direction overtaking another vehicle, you are expected to go into the shoulder lane to allow it to pass. The driver will flash a quick `thank you` with his or her high beams. On highways, be wary of pedestrians walking on the road, and in rural areas watch for animals. Most major rental companies (including Hertz, Europcar, and Budget) are found in South Africa. They`ll often let you pick up and drop off at different locations, even in different countries, for an extra cost. Most rental cars have manual transmissions. If you can only drive automatic, you`ll likely pay more for the privilege. Regardless of your plans, booking in advance will almost always give you better rates and more options. By Train: Often the slowest transportation option, trains in South Africa are less expensive than flights and offer more comfort than buses. For those who have the time, they`re also a wonderful way to experience the country`s vast openness. Shosholoza Meyl Railways provides service between the country`s major cities. In tourist class, sleeper accommodations are for two to four people with bathrooms and showers shared by each car. By Bus: All but the most rural parts of the country can be reached by bus using one of the three main companies: Intercape, Greyhound, and Translux. Buses in South Africa are affordable and safe, and they usually have air conditioning and an onboard toilet. Note that Intercape “promotes the Christian faith” on its buses, which may involve a prayer at the start of the journey, as well as Christian music and religious movies. Tickets can be bought directly through each company or from the national booking agency Computicket.

The official unit of currency in South Africa is the Rand (R or ZAR), one Rand is made up of 100 cents. US dollars are not accepted; make sure to exchange your dollars for Rand before or upon entering South Africa. South Africa charges a VAT (value-added tax) of 14% on goods and services. Visitors can reclaim VAT on their purchases of more than R250, this process is handled at the VAT refund offices at the Cape Town International Airport. You will need your original tax invoice/receipt and your passport. Visit www.taxrefunds.co.za for more information. Tipping in South Africa is customary at most establishments in the service industry. 10% - 15% of your total bill is generally expected. For more detailed information, consult our guide by clicking here Tipping in South Africa .

The official languages spoken in South Africa are English, Afrikaans, and Xhosa. English is widely spoken in most of the service industries including hotels, restaurants, shops, and transportation. We recommend you get a good English-South African guidebook and familiarize yourself with common phrases such as hello, goodbye, please, thank you, excuse me, and numbers 1 - 10.

Essential Tips for Your South Africa Safari Vacations

Before setting off on your South African safari vacation, it's good to know a few tips. Here's everything you need to know before embarking on your safari vacation.

It is estimated that there are nearly 40,000 giraffes in South Africa

The Culture

From the Zulu nation's rich traditions to the Xhosa's deep-rooted customs, every ethnic group contributes to the country's unique cultural identity. A visit here is incomplete without experiencing the powerful harmonies of a local choir or the storytelling dance of the San people.

Heritage and Harmony

The Rainbow Nation is a place where different cultures not only coexist but flourish together. Museums across the country, like the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg, provide a profound look into the country's challenging past and the journey to democracy.

Cultural Celebrations

Festivals are a colourful showcase of South Africa's artistic diversity, featuring everything from indigenous art forms to contemporary music. The National Arts Festival in Makhanda is one such event that gathers artists and performers from all over the continent.

Language and Literature

South Africa's constitution recognizes 11 official languages, illustrating the nation's linguistic richness. Literature is another avenue where the cultural narratives unfold, with Nobel laureates like Nadine Gordimer and J.M. Coetzee among its storytellers.

Music and Dance

Music is the heartbeat of South African culture. Genres like Kwaito, Afrikaans rock, and Marabi capture the spirit of the nation. Traditional dances, often accompanied by rhythmic drumming, remain a vital part of ceremonies and social gatherings.

The Best Time to Visit

South Africa's allure is year-round, but the best time to visit can depend on your activities of interest. Here's a seasonal guide to help plan your South Africa safari vacations.

Spring (September to November)

Spring bursts with colour as wildflowers carpet the Western Cape. It's an ideal time for whale watching and enjoying the temperate weather before the summer heat.

Summer (December to February)

The warmest months are perfect for beachgoers and festivities. However, it's also the rainy season for most of the country, which can be ideal for bird watching as migratory birds arrive.

Autumn (March to May)

The heat subsides and the crowds thin out, making it a perfect time for those seeking tranquility. The bush is still lush, and wildlife viewing in the national parks is excellent.

Winter (June to August)

Winter is prime for wildlife enthusiasts, as the sparse vegetation and limited water sources make animal sightings more common. Days are mild, although nights can be cold, so pack accordingly.

Local Events

Plan around vibrant local events like the Cape Town Jazz Festival in March or the Knysna Oyster Festival in July for a taste of local festivities.

Things to Know

How long can you vacation in south africa.

A short-term Visitor Visa is valid for up to 90 days. You can if you wish apply for a long-term Visitor Visa, which lasts up to three years.

South Africa uses the rand, which trades at around 18 to 1 USD. Cards are accepted for most payments, however, carrying a small amount of cash can help with small transactions.

How much is a safari in South Africa?

A moderate  South Africa vacation can be very affordable, starting around US$135 per person, per day, including time exploring the Western Cape and a safari at a popular park like Kruger. A deluxe experience with safaris at private game reserves can cost around US$450-500 per person, per day, and there are plenty of options in between. Things get more expensive if you want to explore more remote wildlife regions. Rail travel in South Africa is its own experience, with options up to and including Rovos Rail, ‘the most luxurious train in the world.’ A trip onboard Rovos can cost around US$750 per day, depending on the itinerary.

When is the best time to go on safari in South Africa?

Planning a nice, ‘dry’  South Africa trip can be tricky since Kruger and the Western Cape have opposite seasonal schedules.  A South Africa safari is best had between May and October when cooler temperatures and Kruger’s dry season make the animals easier to spot. Kruger is also surprisingly uncrowded at this time since most tourists plan their South Africa vacation around summer. This is, admittedly the best time of year to explore Cape Town and the Garden Route, which can get cold and rainy from June to August. If you’re visiting both (and you should), decide which is more important to you and prepare for potentially sub-optimal conditions in the other. You’ll still have a great trip.

Where to stay in South Africa for safari?

Kruger National Park, located in the country’s northeast is South Africa’s largest and most popular safari destination. In the Greater Kruger area, you’ll also find MalaMala Private Game Reserve and Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, which is one of the best places in Africa to see big cats including those elusive leopards. The next best region for a South Africa safari is Kwazulu-Natal. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi is the star park here, with a healthy population of white rhinos as its main attraction. It too offers an enclosed game reserve in the form of Phinda, famous for its plentiful cheetah sightings. If you want a proper Big Five safari experience, you need to go beyond the Western Cape. There are agencies in Cape Town offering ‘safaris’ but these can’t compete with the eastern parks. If you want to see wildlife on the Western Cape, focus on its birds, including large colonies of ostriches and penguins, and its impressive marine life, including great white sharks and migrating whales.

Do I need to tip in South Africa?

Tipping about 10 percent of the bill is customary in South Africa. You can increase this to 15 or 20 percent for exceptional service.

What to pack for a safari in South Africa

Light, natural, earthy colours in breathable fabrics are the best way to ensure a comfortable  South Africa safari . Avoid dark colours as these can attract mosquitos. Bring a few practical layers if you’re coming in the cooler months from May to October. South African safari vehicles are open, and things get chilly on those early-morning and late-afternoon game drives. Long, lightweight pants and sturdy walking shoes are must-haves on a walking safari, or hiking around the Western Cape. A good camera is also a must. Whether you’re using your phone or an advanced digital camera with a zoom lens, know its settings and quirks inside and out before landing in South Africa. You don’t want to miss an amazing shot.

Is it safe to go to South Africa now?

South Africa has gained a reputation for petty and sometimes violent crime and unfortunately, it’s not unjustified. Keep your wits about you at all times, particularly in cities like Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Always take cabs or ride app services after dark. Popular tourist districts like Cape Town’s waterfront and Bo-Kaap are relatively safe, but avoid walking alone through local neighbourhoods you don’t know, even during the day. Avoid hiking alone even in popular areas like Table Mountain National Park. Visiting South Africa’s townships on an ethical tour is a safe and fascinating way to learn more about South African society, but don’t go on your own. Hotel staff and reputable guides take your safety extremely seriously, so ask for recommendations and follow their advice if you’re not sure. On safari, common sense rules apply. Give wild animals their space, and follow your guide’s directions at all times.

Is South Africa LGBTQ+ friendly?

South Africa was the first African country and one of the first in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. LGBTQ+ South Africans enjoy almost all the same privileges and protections as their neighbours, and while non-binary gender is not currently recognized, it’s likely only a matter of time. The majority of South Africans are accepting of LGBTQ+ people, including Trans identities.

Can I drink the tap water in South Africa?

In most urban areas, it’s safe to drink and cook with South Africa’s tap water. In rural areas, you may want to stick with bottled water. Cape Town’s water crisis of the 2010s ended with strong rains in 2020.

The whole ‘country of contrasts’ thing has become a bit of a cliche

But what else do you call a place where (in a three-week period) you could happily slalom between penguins waddling on the Cape and lions stalking the bushveld, cinematic coastal switchbacks and burnt Kalahari sand, the oldest wine industry outside   Europe   and cutting-edge fusion cuisine? ‘Contrast’, doesn’t really do South Africa justice. The beauty of a South Africa tour (besides the peace of mind that comes with an expert local guide) is being able to fit so much   Africa   into so little time. From the Stellenbosch winelands to Kruger , Blyde River and beyond, this is a place where you can take your   safari   with a side of espresso.

Best time to visit south africa.

South Africa is an excellent year-round destination. Winters are mild, dry and good for wildlife viewing. Summers can get very hot and humid but are a great time for visiting beaches and festivals. Spring is a great time for viewing wildflowers in the Northern and Western Cape provinces, and very little rain falls anywhere in autumn, but the days are warm and the nights cool. Overall, there’s always a good time to head to South Africa.

Culture and customs

South Africa’s culture is one of the most diverse in the world. From indigenous tribes like the Zulu, San Bushmen and Xhosa to the Afrikaners of Dutch heritage, and immigrants of British descent, visitors will be able to experience a magnificent melting pot of customs and traditions. The significant Indian and Jewish populations also add to the ethnic mix. From the proud, beaded Zulu warriors that have inhabited the land for centuries to newly arrived immigrants from   Europe   and   Asia , South Africa’s culture has been shaped by millions of people.

The cuisine is generally a combination of Indian, Dutch, English and tribal flavors and techniques, while dress can range from modern fashion in the big cities to simple traditional, tribal dress in the bush. Although South Africa has made significant inroads towards peace and reconciliation since the end of apartheid, racial tensions are sometimes evident, and it is generally best not to contribute to this in any way. Overall, most travelers will find South Africans to be welcoming, appreciative of your visit and ready to share their homeland and stories.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savoring a cheap eat or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world.

Foods to try in South Africa

South Africa is fast becoming one of the most interesting wine producing regions in the world. Quality has risen steeply in the past decade so if you’re visiting the Stellenbosch Wine Region, be sure to sample some fine reds, which are world-class.

With such easy access to the Indian Ocean and Southern Atlantic, South Africa boasts some of the best seafood dining experiences you’ll ever have. From an indulgent oyster platter at a Cape Town restaurant to a spicy seafood curry in Durban, the seafood here is fresh, cheap and flavorsome.

Biltong tends to divide people. Some find this preserved, spiced meat snack impossible to refuse and others simply can’t stomach it. Either way, it’s extremely popular and readily available in markets, supermarkets and shops throughout South Africa.

4. Boerewors

Another one for the meat-lovers, this coiled, spicy sausage is a South African delicacy best done on the barbecue. Flavored with coriander, cloves and nutmeg, this is a meat born from South African and Dutch traditions.

Geography and environment

South Africa showcases one of the most diverse and stunning natural environments in the world. Visitors are able to soak up golden rays on sun-drenched beaches, journey through acre upon acre of dry savannah, admire lush, green meadows, walk through tropical forest and stop to take in views of wide, ancient canyons. It’s also possible to stroll the streets of an urban city one day and meander along a dirt track passing small farms and villages the next. South Africa truly is a land of contrasts, and this begins with the landscapes and environment.

Located on the tip of Southern Africa, South Africa shares land borders with Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Swaziland. It also shares a long stretch of coastline with the Indian and South Atlantic Oceans. The topography of the land changes remarkably around the country, from the lofty plateaus of the inland region to the low-lying coast and mountainous ranges of the Cape. This variance in topography makes South Africa rich in many species of flora and fauna, something that attracts many tourists and travelers from all over the world.

History and government

Early history.

The land of South Africa has been inhabited for centuries by tribes hailing from different areas of the African continent, including the San and Bantu people. Most tribes relied on hunting and gathering, but gradually were introduced to agriculture and animal husbandry over the years. From around 1200 AD, the tribal people of South Africa started to become influenced by outsiders, including Muslim traders, the Portuguese and the Dutch, who established a settlement in the mid 1600s.

The Dutch continued to dominate the country until the 1800s, when the British became interested in the Cape Colony. During this time, the native population had become increasingly dissatisfied with being marginalized and treated poorly by their European colonizers. Many native people were used as slaves on plantations and were treated brutally by their ‘employers’ and many resented losing their land, culture and traditional way of life. Further to this, the Dutch descendants (known as Boers) didn’t appreciate the arrival of the British in a territory they had inhabited for years before their arrival. This frustration and anger regularly resulted in confrontation and armed conflict between the British, Boers and Zulus, culminating in a series of wars – most notably the Boer Wars.

Recent history

More recently, South Africa has managed to overcome the Apartheid era, a time where discrimination of black people was legalized. Until 1994, black people were unable to legally own land or vote in elections. Further to this, education, healthcare, beaches and public places like cinemas were segregated. During this time, South Africa was ruled and controlled by the white minority, much to the dissatisfaction of the black population and ultimately, the world. After much international pressure and many attempts at reform, the Apartheid era was finally ended in 1994, with Nelson Mandela stepping up to lead the nation as President. Due to this challenging history, modern day South Africa has many social issues to work on and resolve, but many of its people are filled with hope and optimism. In 2010, South Africa successfully hosted the FIFA World Cup, much to the delight of its citizens and the world.

Friday is National Cheap Flights Day (who knew?). Summer is drawing to a close, but the plus side as we head into fall means it’s shoulder season for travel, so deals abound if you have the scheduling flexibility to take advantage of them.

Traditionally the period from September (after the Labor Day crowds have died down) to mid-November (before the Thanksgiving travel crush begins) has been a time of low demand for vacationers. The long tail of remote work since the COVID-19 pandemic has upended this pattern a little, but the next few months are still generally a more affordable time to travel.

Here’s what the pricing trends are if you’re looking to book an off-peak getaway.

Fall airfares

According to data from Expedia , airfares in the fall are typically 10% lower than ticket prices in the summer. The online travel booking site said airfares will generally be lower in the coming months, and travelers can save as much as 15% by planning to fly on Mondays or Saturdays.

“Regardless of the destination, fall is a fantastic time to travel and there’s still time to plan a getaway. The week following Labor Day is the best time for domestic airfare deals, while Oct. 20 is the best for international trips − and for the start of leaf-peeping season,” Melanie Fish, head of Expedia Group Brands public relations, said in a statement.

An analysis from Hopper shows that domestic airfare in September averages $240, down 8% from September 2023. International prices to many regions also remain favorable.

According to Gemma Jameison, a travel expert at Skyscanner, this can also be a great time to book flights for next summer.

Cruising Altitude: Is anyone really 'rawdogging' flights? This summer's viral travel meme.

Fall hotel prices

Hotel prices are up slightly since 2019, but the average is still reasonable at $161 a night, according to Hopper.

Expedia said some popular destinations domestically and internationally have good deals this fall. Seattle, Honolulu and Denver are among the best for budget-conscious travelers in the U.S., and Toronto, Santo Domingo and London are great for those looking to venture abroad.

Fall rental car prices

Hopper noted that gas prices are down almost 10% from August 2023, and car rental prices are flat or slightly down, meaning road trips this fall will be more affordable.

Tips to get the best fall travel deals

According to Expedia, there are a few things travelers can do to maximize their budget. Some of the best practices include:

  • Setting price alerts for your preferred flights.
  • Picking morning flights, which are often cheaper and also less likely to be delayed or canceled.
  • Book refundable hotels. It may cost a little more, but the extra flexibility will pay off if your plans change.
  • Save by bundling flights and hotels.

Top 5 airlines flying to Santa Clara

I appreciated that the two flights were on-time, smooth, and stress free.

Great service. My wheelchair was ready and waiting for me

aircraft are old, seats in first class are not comfortable.

Probably just Economizing but two hours late because of “ground crew.” Then flight took 30 minutes to deplane. Everything else was ok.

Flights cancelled in both directions caused major delay and huge expense to me. Overnight stay, plus an additional purchase of a $800 one way flight on Delta to make my international connection, plus loss of one night hotel stay in Germany that was prepaid, but I was not there to use the room. German hotels do not give any refunds for cancelled or unused rooms. About $1000 total loss for a $400 flight. Major disappointment.

The flight was late. The flight attendant snapped at my daughter for asking to use the bathroom after they announced to be seated. She was told she should listen next time. She has a uti and it had nothing to do with her not listening. One of our suit cases was dented. The flight itself went well and the plane was clean.

The flight overall was mediocre for me. But the point is that it got us to our destination safely.

I was surprised by the lack of customer service from Alaska. While away I had a family emergency and called salsa to push my flight one day to lend family support and what I was met with by the customer service agent couldn’t have been any worse. Not only did this woman have zero compassion but she could barely contain her sheer disdain for her job but she gave new meaning to bad customer service. All I wanted was to find a way to move my flight by one day- she offered zero solutions other than to pay for a full fare new ticket. This experience has left me with never doing business with Alaska again. 👎

It was difficult because me and my husband weee seated separately not only us but other families too. Everyone asking each other to trading seats. Other then that it was good.

It was hot in the air plane could’ve have air fans for every seats. Every flight attendants were great except one that serving my first meal didn’t asked what I want, she just gave to me . Also attendants should learn English and able to understand the what was asked of them. Other then that they were great.

AC barely worked on a 50 minute flight. It was very warm the whole flight. Flight was very bumpy and hard landing.

Got on the plane and then needed to deboard the plane because they didn’t have any pilots?

The flight was canceled two hours before departure, it took over five hours to rebook us on another flight.

Rough day of travel all the way around. Wrong info given to us multiple times and mistakes in their booking making our trip 10 hours longer than planned. I’m bummed because I fly Delta all the time and love them. Mistakes happen. Just bummed that this was a rare trip our whole family was traveling together.

Meh. A late flight meant I missed my connections, and a 2pm LAX arrival turned into gettin in after midnight.

It was good until there was a 3 hour delay because there was not any pilots to fly the plane.

Had to change aircraft due to a faulty door. Surprisingly it only caused about an hour and a half of delay. Delta handled this situation as well as can be expected.

Your crew could maybe answer the call bell at least one of the times I pressed it. I pressed it first time with 2.5 hours left in our flight bc my partner was hungry and wanted a sandwich. We finally got the sandwich with 40 mins left in the flight.

The Flight crew didn’t serve us until about 1.5 hours into the flight because of turbulence but after it ended it was fine to move around. They served us water only and snacks and then NEVER, NOT ONE TIME came through to collect trash until right before landing about 1.5 hours later. There was absolutely no need for that. They crew was just standing around talking and visiting with each other and really never tried to see if we might want something besides water or even try to come pick up trash. This is VERY unusual for a Delta flight but it was not what I would have expected for a 4 hour flight.

There was a loud squeaky sound the whole time we were flying.

Very poor the plane itself was really old, slight smell that couldn’t be named. I didn’t even get a boarding pass UNTIL AFTER clearing security! Even then, they said when I get to my connected flight I’ll get my 2nd boarding pass there! A bit ridiculous!

No cooked food. Crew was not friendly and not that helpful

See my previous comments. I was probably booked in business but was moved to economy

Boarding was efficient. Crew was not pleasant and skipped me during a round of beverage service. Older plane with no seat back screens and I couldn’t connect to wifi or their entertainment offerings.

My flight was delayed for a whole day, so I lost a day of my vacation.

I was refused to used the toilet closes to my seat and had to go to the back of the plane .. it was difficult for me I’m a wheelchair customer

United Airlines was fantastic, however, UnderPricer was a nightmare. I got to the airport 4 hours before my flight. We are moving to New Zealand so had quite a bit of baggage (16 checked items) and so wanted to have plenty of time to get everything taken care of properly. When I went to check in they (United) could only find a ticket for me. The 5 tickets for my children were never officially ticketed. I called Underpricer and they told me it was United's fault and United told me that Underpricer just needs to reissue the tickets, but they refused to. I asked the Underpricer agent to transfer me to his supervisor as I was not getting the help I needed. He told me the supervisor was busy but that he would call me back in 30 minutes. 30 minutes came and went with no phone call. After an hour I called Underpricer back but they would not let me talk to the person I had talked to before, just told me that he was talking with the supervisor and technical support. I called again an hour later, was told the same thing. I tried again later, with only about 30 minutes until my flight was scheduled to leave (meaning I had been at the airport for more than 3 hours with my 5 children trying to get ticketed and board the flight). Also, my husband had moved to New Zealand 3 months prior, I haven't seen him in 3 months, my children hadn't seen their dad in 3 months, we were all extremely eager to get on that flight and get to New Zealand. The situation with the tickets did not get resolved until after it was too late to check our luggage and board our flight. We were devastated. My 11 year old son was in tears at not being able to be on his way to see his dad. Thankfully we were rebooked for the next evening, but that night it felt devastating. We'd been at the airport for 4 hours waiting. My in-laws waited with me and then helped me reload all our baggage and took us home to stay with them for the night. On the newly booked flights we could not sit together - my children were spread throughout the plane. So, even though I had paid extra to select our seats after buying my seats from Underpricer only two of us were able to sit together (thankful that my 11 year old wasn't all by himself, but not happy that my 14 & 16 year old daughters were seated by strangers). I really feel that Underpricer should refund me what I paid for the seating ($120 USD). It was a very frustrating situation and I plan on never using Kayak or Underpricer ever again.

The lady at the check in counter wasn't helpful

Crew was very cooperative and professional. Passenger's first checked in bag should be free.

Flight was delayed due to the late arrival of the catering truck, which is quite unacceptable. There was a beverage service, but no pretzel, or cookie, or nuts were served in coach.

I was unhappy with having the seat I chose changed at the last minute. I was moved to an aisle seat which did not recline and was next to the bathroom. The bathroom odors made the flight entirely unpleasant. Having carefully chosen my seat months before I was not pleased with my AA experience. In addition, they ran out of tea during flight service, really?

Dallas Hub. American taking ownership for their screwups instead of blaming their contractors and customers, trading their people, their call in service, reservation agents and their ticketing process. Make sure wheelchairs are available especially when the request is in their record.

The aircraft was on-time and plane and lavatory was clean.

My husband and I pre-ordered our food, but they did not have my husband’s order, and my cheese plate was very average. I asked for a blanket and was told they don’t carry blankets on domestic routs. The flight was on time and smooth!

There were delays on both ends. It made it less than excellent. This plane was great though

Everything was great except for the wifi was junk. Crew was super friendly and helpful

Attendants were rude. Scowling. Seats were miserable and we paid extra.

Fight crew was not very attentive and the bastions were gross!

Our flight was great we left Kona earlier and got into LAX almost an 1hour earlier as well. LAX AA is in repair so to get out and found our bus to get pick up was a bit confusing.

Plane was good but was delayed. probably not AA fault but caused a 1 hour delay. Seating was cramped.

Long lines, rude staff, everything that's offered you have to pay for.

Among the worst flights I’ve taken. Never again. Staff was horrible across the entire Frontier workforce. Flight attendants were legitimately yelling at and arguing with each other while on board - toxic environment (really guys? at work and in front of customers no less?). Frontier intentionally assigned my partner and I (who booked together) to opposite ends of the plane despite plenty of seats together - straight up predatory practices to take people’s money. Seats are legit the absolute worst. Not even free coffee. Absolute garbage airline with wild hidden fees and the worst staff in the business. They will for sure have a deadly accident soon. Never again, not for any where not for any price.

My departure gate was E10 but no kiosk at E10 for check in & no one to ask. A United attendant helped direct us to E38 for check in. The kiosks at E38 were all malfunctioning. A counter agent had to check us in. We then had to walk back to E10 for boarding. E10 to E38 at DfW is not an easy trek. No where in all the info they sent us indicated there were issues to over come. They can cut only so many corners. Luckily we arrived plenty early to deal with Frontier’s inefficiency.

Our flight was delayed by four hours without notice, the app for getting my boarding pass is super confusing, and I wasn’t able to check a suitcase without paying for a higher cost package

Flight was cancelled and was not able to get another flight thru Frontier. Per frontier a refund was issued but I do not see a refund on my Afirm account.

First the gate was a total nightmare-no chairs anywhere! So over crowded and only one bathroom and nightmare of food service - took forever and NOT one place to sit. No inflight entertainment and had to pay 60.00 for a small carry on. I will never fly Frontier again!

Literally everything could have been better. Why are the planes always late?

We did not get to go on this flight because it got canceled 4 hours prior to scheduled time. We received an email that it got canceled and then 10 minutes later we received another email that it got delayed. It was very confusing and the only options they gave us for return flight home were 12 to 22 hours of travel time. That was not an option for us since we were traveling with kids and school started on Monday. We ended up opting for a refund and booking a flight back with Alaska. The flight ended up costing us $1500 and we had to book a hotel for the night. We will never book with frontier again.

25 dollars to get a boarding pass abusive nasty folks at the boarding pass check-in desk flight delayed abusive nasty personnel at gate no one knew what they were doing at boarding a real cluster fbk I took a different flight back frontier socks

Flight was canceled as soon as I got to the airport

Southwest Airlines has unveiled its latest set of airfare deals with one-way tickets starting at just $42 for this fall and winter. The latest sale, which ends Thursday, August 22, at 11:59 p.m. PT, offers discounted one-way fares nationwide, according to the airline . While no promo code is needed, a 21-day advance purchase is necessary to take advantage of the sale fares. However, this Southwest sale specifically excludes all California travel. Although the discounted fares are generally available over the next six months, there are several blackout dates to be aware of:

  • Continental U.S. flights are valid between Sept. 10 and March 5, but excluded from Nov. 21 to 25 and Dec. 18 to Jan. 7
  • Flights to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international destinations are valid between Sep. 10 and Feb. 10, but excluded from Nov. 21 to 25 and Dec. 18 to Jan. 7
  • Flights from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and international destinations are valid between Sep. 10 and Feb. 10, but excluded from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3 and Dec. 18 to Jan. 7
  • Interisland Hawaii flights are valid between Sep. 10 and Feb. 10, but excluded from Dec. 18 to Jan. 7

The same flights can also be booked using Rapid Rewards points , starting at just 3,800 points. However, domestic redemptions will require an additional $5.60 in taxes and fees for a one-way ticket. Travelers without set plans can use Southwest’s Low Fare Calendar to find the best deals in a calendar view. Travel + Leisure found these one-way tickets over the next few months:

  • Jacksonville (JAX) to/from Atlanta (ATL): $42 or 2,075 points
  • New York (LGA) to/from Nashville (BNA): $46 or 2,385 points
  • Chicago (MDW) to/from Pittsburgh (PIT): $47 or 2,462 points
  • Baltimore (BWI) to/from Charlotte (CLT): $59 or 3,389 points
  • Denver (DEN) to/from Montrose/Telluride (MTJ): $59 or 3,389 points

All of these discounted tickets are offered in Southwest’s “Wanna Get Away” fare class , which includes two free checked bags, along with free changes and cancellations. However, with the airline moving away from its open-boarding policy , assigned seating will be introduced in the future.

Yes, you can use either earbud independently.

How waterproof / water resistant are these?

Beats Studio Buds are rated IPX4, which means they are resistant to sweat and water splashing from any direction. The case is not sweat or water resistant.

How do I keep my product up to date?

Software updates will occasionally be made available to enable new features or improve the product experience. These ‘silent’ updates are automatically enabled when connected to an Apple device. To stay up to date on an Android device, download the Beats app from Google Play.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

AI-generated from the text of customer reviews

Customers are mixed about the sound quality of the headphones. Some mention that the sound is good, the noise canceling is unmatched, and the base sounds stronger. Others say that the noise cancellation is a joke, the right ear bud produced no sound, and that the case makes a squealing mosquito tone when you close it slow enough for the magnet not to.

"...They automatically have active noise cancellation on when you take them out of the case… which I personally hate...." Read more

"...Pros – Bose noise canceling is unmatched . If your primary use for earbuds is to cancel out that background white noise, this is the pair for you...." Read more

"...Pretty solid headphones, I quite like them. The noise cancellation doesn’t entirely work , but i dont really mind too much since it still blocks out..." Read more

"...These have awareness mode, as well as a noise isolation mode . Awareness mode is nice, but noise isolation causes me to have a headache...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the quality of the earbuds. Some mention that they have good quality, great sound, and sound blocking. However, others say that they received a very poor pair of ear buds, the quality falls short, and they are not the best wireless headphones.

"I love these earbuds. They feel definitely worth the price and a all around great buy . Giving me exactly what I was looking for...." Read more

"...The case for these earbuds also was the flimsiest of any I had tested, with a very weak hinge that I was scared of breaking off within the 2 weeks..." Read more

"...After i did that the audio was great, nice and loud. The buds fit nice for me with the small ear tips, not uncomfortable...." Read more

"...the case doesn't have a loop for a string to hold on to and the case is very smooth , so you have to buy a third party case and put it over the stock..." Read more
