Be awe-struck by awesome Atlanta

This is your not-to-be-missed bike tour of Atlanta’s cultural, historic, and environmental visions. It’s a unique ride into Atlanta’s dynamic, hip, and moving stories – revealed in the corners of its suburbs, the script of its murals, and the glory of its gardens. By tour-end, you’ll be awe-struck, moved, and totally in love with Atlanta.

Your guided bicycle tour begins on the Atlanta BeltLine, a natural oasis in Atlanta’s thriving cityscape, and its largest urban revitalization project. Ride along a cycle path lined with lush foliage to the leafy neighborhood of Inman Park, Atlanta’s first suburb, with its boutique outdoor dining spaces.

The Krog Tunnel is a story told with spray-cans – an edgy backdrop for your Instagram photos. You’ll ride past all colors of the rainbow in this urban art canvas linking Inman Park with Cabbagetown – a treat for the eyes and for the mind. Next, there’s the opportunity for a photo at the best free vantage point of downtown Atlanta. Fans of The Walking Dead will recognize this spot on Jackson Street Bridge as the iconic backdrop for the first season!

You’ll know you’ve cycled into Cabbagetown when the streets narrow and you see the double-height porches of the myriad 1800s mill cottages, delicately colored and nestling delicious eateries.

Marvel at the contrast of Atlanta as you glide into the Old Fourth Ward, a former industrial area now rejuvenated with trendy stores and dining opportunities, and the birthplace of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. The ward sets the scene for the final section of the day tour, promising to educate, move, and inspire. Oakland Cemetery, so named for the majestic oak and magnolia trees flourishing amongst the headstones, is the final resting place for over 70,000 Georgians and Atlanta’s oldest public park, offering 48 acres of remarkable gardens, sculptures, and architecture.

Finally, your bike tour enters the King Historic District, an area of landmarks, monuments and exhibits devoted to the legacy of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, including King’s birth home, the stunning International World Peace Rose Garden, 'Behold' monument, and the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Great ride into Atlanta’s history, art and culture

· highlights of atlanta bike tour.

Touring Atlanta by bike provides a really unique look at the city, including a lot of interesting areas I hadn't previously been familiar with, such as the Krog tunnel. I started to really appreciate the organic artwork that you see around Atlanta, especially by bike. Our guide was great and really knew Atlanta and its history well. I particularity enjoyed the Beltline. Plus Inman Park has some really beautiful homes and is capped off by L5P which is no doubt one of Atlanta's most interesting spots. The bikes were great and the riding was easy and fun. The length was about perfect.

Ten Ways To Enjoy a Cheaper Trip to Atlanta

By: Author Kevin Monroe

Posted on Last updated: August 19, 2024

Atlanta is a city brimming with history, culture, and endless activities, but if you're not careful, your trip can quickly strain your wallet. The good news? You don't have to break the bank to experience the best of what Atlanta, Georgia, offers. With a few savvy tips, you can explore this dynamic Southern city while keeping your budget in check.

So, whether visiting with family or friends or solo  backpacking through the United States , these ten tips will help keep the costs down while still ensuring a memorable experience.

Table of Contents

1. Choose Budget-Friendly Accommodation

2. take advantage of free attractions, 3. explore affordable dining options, 4. use public transport, 5. enjoy atlanta's green spaces, 6. plan for discounted or free museum days, 7. attend free festivals and events, 8. shop smart at local markets, 9. embrace the city’s cultural offerings, 10. walk the city's historic neighborhoods, atlanta travel tips.

Accommodation can be one of the most significant travel expenses, but Atlanta offers many options. Premium hotels like  Forth Hotel Atlanta  can be an excellent choice for comfort and convenience. Still, more budget-conscious travelers can find savings at places like hostels. Additionally, consider booking your stay during the off-peak season to take advantage of lower rates and fewer crowds.

Hostels and shared accommodations are excellent options for those who enjoy a more social experience. Staying in a hostel, like those found near Atlanta's lively downtown, not only saves money but also provides opportunities to meet fellow travelers. This is especially appealing for backpackers who want to connect with others on similar journeys.

Atlanta is home to many completely free attractions, making it possible to explore the city on your trip without spending a fortune. The  Atlanta BeltLine  is a perfect example. This 22-mile-long path is ideal for walking, cycling, or simply taking in the scenery. It connects various parks, neighborhoods, and art installations, offering a unique way to experience the city's culture.

Another must-see is the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. This site offers free entry to the public. It provides an in-depth look into the life of one of America's most important civil rights leaders. Visitors can tour his childhood home, the church where he preached, and his final resting place, making it a meaningful and cost-free way to spend an afternoon.

Breakfast at Buttermilk Kitchen (photo: Jennifer Kim).

Dining out can quickly add up, but Atlanta has a thriving food scene that caters to all budgets. Head to local favorites like Mary Mac's Tea Room or The Varsity for authentic Southern comfort food without the hefty price tag. These iconic spots serve classic dishes like fried chicken, collard greens, and peach cobbler at reasonable prices.

Food trucks  are another fantastic way to enjoy delicious meals without breaking the bank. They can be found throughout the city, offering everything from tacos and burgers to international cuisine. Attending food truck events, which often have live music and entertainment, is a fun and affordable way to sample the city's culinary delights.

Getting around Atlanta doesn't have to be expensive. The city's public transport system, MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority), is efficient and budget-friendly. MARTA trains and buses can take you to most major attractions, including the airport, making it a convenient option for tourists.

Day passes are available for unlimited trips, allowing you to explore different parts of Atlanta without worrying about the cost. Alternatively, suppose you're staying in the downtown area. In that case, many of the main sights are within walking distance, which can save even more on transport costs while letting you soak in the city's atmosphere.

Bird sculptures at Atlanta Botanical Garden (photo: Holly Landkammer).

Atlanta is known for its beautiful parks and green spaces, offering plenty of free opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.  Piedmont Park , located in the heart of the city, is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. With expansive lawns, scenic walking trails, and stunning skyline views, it's ideal for a picnic, a leisurely stroll, or simply relaxing in the sun.

Another green gem is the Atlanta Botanical Garden, which, although not free, offers discounted admission on certain days. This oasis is home to a wide variety of plants, flowers, and art installations, providing a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle and bustle. Watch for free events and special offers to enjoy these spaces without overspending.

Atlanta is a city rich in history and culture, with numerous museums that offer insight into various aspects of art, history, and science. To make your Atlanta trip more affordable, plan ahead and take advantage of discounted or free admission days offered by many of the city's museums.

For instance, the High Museum of Art offers free admission on the second Sunday of each month. This world-class museum houses an impressive collection of art from around the globe, providing a cultural experience that won't cost a penny if you time your visit right. Similarly, the Atlanta History Center occasionally offers free or discounted admission, allowing you to delve into the city's past without spending too much.

Atlanta's vibrant culture is showcased through its numerous festivals and events held throughout the year. Many of these events are free to attend, making them a perfect way to experience the city's energy without spending much money. The  Atlanta Dogwood Festival , held every spring, is one of the city's oldest and most popular events. It features live music, art exhibits, and food vendors, all set against the backdrop of blooming dogwood trees in Piedmont Park.

Music lovers should also check out the various free concerts held around the city. The annual Music Midtown Festival often has free performances in addition to ticketed events. At the same time, smaller venues and parks frequently host local bands and artists. These events provide a great way to enjoy Atlanta's music scene on a budget.

Ponce City Market (photo: Jennifer Kim)

For those who enjoy shopping, Atlanta's local markets offer a unique experience without the high prices of shopping malls. The  Atlanta Farmers Market , one of the largest in the country, is a great place to find fresh produce, handmade goods, and local delicacies at reasonable prices. It's also an excellent spot to pick up affordable souvenirs that are representative of the region.

The Sweet Auburn Curb Market is another must-visit for budget-conscious shoppers. Located in the historic Sweet Auburn district, this market features a variety of vendors selling everything from fresh food to handmade crafts. It's a fantastic way to support local businesses while finding unique items that won't break the bank.

Atlanta's diverse cultural scene offers plenty of opportunities to experience art, music, and theater without spending a fortune. The Fox Theatre, a historic landmark, often provides discounted tickets to its shows, especially if booked in advance. Catching a matinee or attending a weekday performance can also result in significant savings.

For art enthusiasts, Atlanta's numerous galleries often host free exhibits and openings. These events provide a chance to see the works of both established and emerging artists, offering a cultural experience that's easy on the wallet. Keep an eye out for special events during  Atlanta Celebrates Photography , when galleries and public spaces throughout the city showcase photography exhibits, many of which are free to the public.

Exploring Atlanta's historic neighborhoods is a wonderful way to soak up the city's charm without spending a dime. Areas like Inman Park, the city's first planned suburb, are filled with beautiful Victorian homes, tree-lined streets, and quaint shops. Walking through these neighborhoods gives you a glimpse into Atlanta's past and present while enjoying the city's unique architecture and atmosphere.

Another neighborhood worth exploring is Little Five Points, known for its eclectic mix of shops, street art, and alternative culture. It's a great place to wander around, people-watch, and enjoy the creative energy that defines this part of Atlanta. Even if you don't spend anything, the experience of simply being in these parts of Atlanta is worth the trip.

2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship purse, winner’s share, PGA Tour prize money payout

T he 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship purse is set for $20 million, with the winner's share coming in at $3,600,000 -- the standard 18 percent payout according to the PGA Tour's prize money distribution chart .

The 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship field is headed by Scottie Scheffler , Xander Schauffele , Rory McIlroy and more of the world's best players.

For 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship results and payout , see our final leaderboard

The 70-player field competes in the first FedEx Cup playoff event of the 2024 PGA Tour season, with the tournament being the Memphis kickoff to the FedEx Cup playoffs.

A cut will not be made after 36 holes to the top 65 players and ties. All players who finish four rounds of the tournament will earn money.

The prize-money payout is typically based on exactly 65 players making the cut and finishing the tournament. However, in PGA Tour events with a standard cut to the top 65 players and ties, the payout formula is adjusted to account for the exact number of players making the cut and will often include adding money to the stated purse to account for additional players.

The event is played this year at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn.

This is the 37th PGA Tour event of the 2024 PGA Tour schedule .

What else is on the line: FedEx Cup points, OWGR points, exemptions

Beyond money, there are important points, perks and benefits on the line for the field -- in particular, the tournament winner.

The winner of this event earns 2,000 FedEx Cup points, as will be the case for the first two playoff events. The winner gets 70 Official World Golf Ranking points, with the points available based on field strength.

The champion will enjoy the benefits of winning PGA Tour event, including a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.
