Safari Snorkels: the ultimate guide

5th May 2022

As one of the most common 4×4 upgrades, snorkel kits unlock a long list of plus points, including improved engine performance, fuel efficiency and fuss-free maintenance.

Initially developed for use in hot, dry and dusty climates, the cooler air provided in larger volumes by a snorkel kit is now working wonders across a multitude of environments thanks to its dust and water ingress reducing effects. Snorkels are being used on everything from tanks to tractors, with their simple designs supplying a quick and easy way to improve performance and reliability.

When choosing a snorkel kit however opting for the cheapest is simply not an option. Cheap snorkels tend to be thin and can become easily cracked and damaged on impact with stones and branches.

Most serious users would never buy these cheap kits as a result. But there’s one brand that offers great value and is hugely respected worldwide for its durability, performance and efficiency. Here we introduce Safari…

Safari 4×4 Engineering – a world market leader

We stock Safari snorkels that are well regarded for delivering the very best standards. Safari has been doing what they do best for some time and has built a reputation for snorkel kits that not only look the part but function well for the long term.

We’ll let Safari explain more about the history and reputation of their brand:

“For decades Safari 4×4 Engineering has designed and manufactured automotive snorkels and 4WD performance systems made to enhance the performance, durability and driveability of 4×4 vehicles… Safari’s signature lies in the quality and durability of its components, the attention to detail in every system and the absolute standard that ‘product performance must always be reliably achieved.”

Explore Safari’s huge range right here

Safari snorkels are split into two categories – Armax and V-Spec – each of which provides an impressive array of features.

The V-Spec kits are of traditional Safari snorkel design. They are developed to guarantee the same airflow to the engine as a standard vehicle, regardless of the off-road challenges or conditions encountered. The Safari Armax snorkel kits deliver not just cleaner, cooler air but a lot of it. Those interested in using a snorkel to improve engine performance will appreciate the Armax’s 40% boost in airflow.

The differences between Safari’s Armax and V-Spec kits don’t end there. The air ram found on the Armax design is bigger to ensure the more substantial airflow it is known and celebrated for. There is however greater availability in the Safari V-Spec kits.

Both Safari’s Armax and V-Spec kits are high quality, boast cleaner and cooler air intake, and are protected by generous lifetime warranties.

Model-specific kits for quick and easy fitting

The fact that, unlike many other snorkel brands, Safari specialise in model-specific kits makes fitting easy and performance even higher.

With every model specific kit, you’ll receive all fitting parts, clamps, fitting templates and detailed instructions, including advice on any minor adaptations required to accommodate specific air filter boxes, other engine bay differences, and even wheel arch kit upgrades .

UV stable, durable and futureproof snorkels guaranteed

UV stability isn’t always high on the list of priorities when shopping for a snorkel, but it certainly should be! Many snorkel kits are often not UV stable, meaning they take on a chalkier appearance and become brittle over time.

To ensure optimum durability long into the future, Safari snorkels utilise their very own industrial spec, UV stabilised polyethylene to provide a UV stable material that won’t let you down on function or aesthetics. The use of cross-linked polyethylene also means substantial wall thickness that delivers strength in the toughest conditions.

You can discover all of Safari’s market-leading snorkel kits right here at 4×4 Works and the many reasons why this leading brand is the world’s number one!

Right from the start, Safari took the decision to design a snorkel system that exceeded the air flow requirements of the tough 7.3L V8 Diesel engine - and through thorough engineering and exhaustive testing of the SS910HF snorkel system, those lofty design targets were achieved.

This of course applies to components that are not visible. For example a custom alloy casting is installed onto the air cleaner assembly inside the engine bay and forms a rugged mounting point from the snorkel body exit and positive connection to the standard air cleaner assembly. This special casting also delivers a clean shot of air directly from the snorkel body and into the air cleaner.

The result is maximum engine performance and the best possible fuel economy.

The Safari Snorkel body is manufactured to the highest standards in durable, UV stable, cross linked polyethylene material. In addition, the substantial material wall thickness delivers huge physical strength to ensure that the snorkel breezes through the toughest off-road conditions on the planet.

The Safari Snorkel system is supplied as a complete and comprehensive system that includes every nut, bolt and bracket required for installation - right from robust zero-corrosion stainless steel studs, self-locking nyloc nuts and to the large diameter anodized body washers.

An accurately marked template is also provided to ensure that the installation of the snorkel body to panel work is as precise as possible.

4WD snorkel buyers' guide

Any serious four-wheeler wouldn’t leave the driveway without a quality snorkel installed on their 4x4.

Siteassets Authors Tristan Tancredi Headshot

There's no doubt any off-road-oriented four-wheel drive worth its salt requires a snorkel.

This vital tool in a four-wheeler’s arsenal not only allows vehicles to cross deep water crossings, but its elevated position allows cleaner, dust-free air to filter through to the engine.

“On a standard vehicle setup, the air intake is usually in the inner wheel arch or under the bonnet. The air from these locations is not always the best, as the air can be affected by external elements such as dust, heat or water,” explained Ironman 4x4’s product director, Adam Craze.

“So, as a starting place, fitting a snorkel raises the air intake to allow the air to be taken from a higher, cooler location, that in most cases is less affected by dust.”

Engines require cooler, cleaner air to work to their optimum ability, so having an elevated snorkel filtering air into the engine when attempting to mount Big Red will make it a hell of a lot easier to reach the top.

c46b0a96/snorkel buyers guard jpg

Jason Luxon, Safari 4x4’s marketing manager, agreed: “A positively sealed snorkel system is generally installed to protect your engine against water and dust ingression, providing cleaner, cooler air at all times.

“Armax snorkel systems go one step further and have the ability to supply up to 40 per cent more airflow over a standard air-intake system, for increased engine performance.”

As well as protecting an engine from silty dust deposits, a well-designed snorkel also enhances a 4x4’s appearance.

“The TJM Airtec Snorkel provides a pleasing aesthetic accessory that will enhance the look of any 4WD,” Brad Cooper, TJM’s category manager for mechanical components, told us.

James David, Sherpa 4x4 technician, added: “The snorkel is an affordable upgrade which not only improves the appearance of the vehicle but also provides a practical upgrade to the factory vehicle airflow design. It is especially important for people planning to do touring or extreme adventures off-road.”

Sealed versus unsealed

Stainless steel or plastic, avoid cheap imitations, installation, what to buy.

A sealed snorkel will prevent water and dust from entering an engine, while unsealed snorkels, designed as a multi-piece construction are, according to Airflow’s David Mellords, “made for the benefit of external air induction but not with water protection in mind”.

Any serious off-roader will flick an unsealed snorkel in favour of a sealed one as soon as the keys to the new rig exchange hands, as an unsealed snorkel won’t be much chop when the tracks get dusty or wet.

ae1a090e/ute snorkel buyers guide jpg

The experts agreed: “We don’t understand why anyone would fit a snorkel only to leave it unsealed,” said Sherpa’s James David.

“A sealed snorkel is the only snorkel to have,” added Adam Craze.

“TJM Airtec snorkels are all positively sealed to the vehicle’s air box during installation,” said TJM’s Brad Cooper, adding: “It’s important to note that to ensure the warranty of your vehicle you must follow the manufacturer’s handbook to ensure you have complied with their recommendations for water wading and general vehicle operation.”

Other than the construction, there’s not a hell of a lot of difference between a plastic and stainless steel – typically made from high-grade 304 – snorkels.

“There’s really not that much different between the two,” Phat Bars’ Paul Hanlen told us. He added that a main point of difference between the two constructions is style. “We look at the lines of the car from all directions, to make sure the product remains stylish.”

c26a0a10/nsnorkel fitout 4x4 jpg

A stainless steel snorkel will afford structural rigidity and robustness, and it will be corrosion-resistant and of one-piece construction, meaning it’ll be just as capable as plastic snorkels for desert and river crossings. Phat Bar snorkels remain between 75 and 100mm all the way to the airbox – often 100mm the entire way.

“There’s plenty of air going all the way to the airbox,” Hanlen said. “We also angle the rear of our snorkels so that they’re not facing totally backwards.”

WHY spend your hard-earned on a quality snorkel from a trusted manufacturer when there are imitation versions available for a fraction of the cost?

For starters, quality made aftermarket snorkels are designed and styled to fit specific vehicle applications. Brad Cooper from TJM explained, “Most cheap imported snorkels are either copies or designed to suit foreign vehicles and will not fit your car correctly. TJM Airtec snorkels offer a range of intake (ram) heads to suit your particular style and application.”

Opting to buy an aftermarket snorkel from the specialists could be one of the smartest off-roading decisions you’ll ever make. Not only will the high-quality product be up to the task, you’ll have peace of mind that your engine will be protected from dust and water ingress, and the product will last the duration of your travels.

c9a40ba2/snorkel ute buyers guide jpg

“Purchasing from a trusted manufacturer and retailer gives you the peace of mind that your investment is protected wherever you travel. Why would you risk damaging the engine of your pride and joy by fitting a cheap, poor-fitting imported snorkel?” asked Cooper.

Sherpa 4x4’s James David added that experience and reliability are key reasons to stick with the professionals. “Choosing a Sherpa snorkel, you know the product has been proven and installed hundreds of times before, meaning it will fit your vehicle without trouble. You will also have access to aftersales support from a company that won’t do a Harry Houdini on you tomorrow.”

This level of experience across all brands is a key reason why consumers should lean toward trusted manufacturers.

“Airflow has been designing, manufacturing and selling roto-moulded products for the last 30 years,” Airflow’s sales manager, David Mellords, told us. “We have been selling snorkels nationally and internationally for 26 years, and manufacturing them for the past 23 years. During that time we have undertaken a comprehensive study program into mould design, mould making, manufacturing techniques using the latest in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and, where necessary, even using imitation technology.”

Safari’s Jason Luxon concurred: “Safari 4x4 Engineering are passionate about the ultimate in 4x4 engine protection and performance and has over 35 years’ experience. Our history in the market place has proven the durability and quality of our products. The high standard and attention to detail is unmatched anywhere in the world.”

It’s also important to remember that hours and hours of testing, research and development goes into a quality-made product before it’s attached to the front of a 4x4.

“Buying from a trusted brand ensures the research and development has been done to ensure there are no negative effects on your vehicle and the raw materials are of the highest quality,” said Ironman 4x4’s Adam Craze.

Manufacturers typically provide customers with step-by-step instructions on DIY fitment of snorkels, and those with plenty of experience handling tools can fit their snorkels in a couple of hours.

“Each Armax snorkel comes with comprehensive fitting instructions and can be installed by either a professional workshop or DIY,” said Jason Luxon. “Generally, fitting time is two to four hours depending on the model.”

However, as Adam Craze explained: “Cutting the hole in the side of your brand-new vehicle is not normally something someone wants to do, so it is probably better left to the professionals to install.” So unless you know your way around sheetmetal and the front-end of a 4x4, we recommend dropping it off at a workshop.

bc9c0a53/snorkel installation buyers guide jpg

"Ultimately it comes down to the customer’s ability, confidence and willingness in performing the task,” added Sherpa 4x4’s James David. “Many of our customers ask their local mechanic to fit the snorkel at their next vehicle service and this is usually a cost-effective avenue to having your snorkel installed by someone you already know and trust.”

Brad Cooper from TJM repeated this sentiment: “We always recommend professional fitment by a TJM distributor to ensure seamless and problem-free integration with your vehicle’s air intake system. If you would like to fit it yourself, all TJM Airtec snorkels come with a step by step installation guide.”

One of the most important things to remember during installation is to ensure all of the holes are treated for rust protection and all parts are fully sealed.

Sy-klone series 9001 snorkel pre-cleaner on arb safari snorkel – install & overview.

5th Gen 4Runner Overland Build

Sy-Klone Series 9001 Snorkel Pre-Cleaner Overview and Install on an ARB Safari Snorkel For the 5th Gen 4Runner

In a previous article, I covered the installation of ARB’s Safari Snorkel on my 5th Gen 4Runner, where I discussed the benefits of a raised intake over the stock intake that hides inside the fender.

One thing a raised air intake does is reduce the number of particulates that enter the intake box, however, it’s certainly not the end-all solution. The forward-facing ram-style intake that comes on the Safari Snorkel also allows for any incoming particulates to head straight down the pipe and into the air filter.

Why You Need a Pre-Cleaner

5th Gen 4Runner Dirt in Airbox

Bugs, dust, and vegetation are the common infiltrators with the standard top and over time they can cause a premature replacement of the air filter. Some solutions to this problem include reversing the snorkel head to have it face backward which is only advised for low-speed operation in heavy dust or using an oiled “sock” over the intake to collect incoming dust. Both of these options may help slightly, but neither solve the problem entirely.

Why the Snorkel Upgrade (Sy-Klone)

Sy Clone Air Ram for Snorkel for 5th Gen 4Runner

To improve air quality, and remove additional particulates, we look to a product that has aided the military and commercial operations for decades. The product is the Sy-Klone Series 9001 pre-cleaner available exclusively for the off-road market through Snorkel Upgrade . The Series 9001 is a dome-shaped snorkel intake replacement that uses the power of centrifugal force to separate solid particulates from clean air.

This is the final solution to the dirty filter problem that plagues so many expedition-style vehicles that promise to:

  • Increase your air filter service life
  • Decrease potential blockages from snow and other debris
  • Keep your engine as healthy as it can be as far as air is concerned

How it Works

Sy Clone Air Ram for Snorkel for 5th Gen 4Runner

Inside the dome, the housing is a series of blades set on a sealed bearing assembly. As your engine creates a vacuum in the intake/snorkel, fresh air is drawn into the bottom of the dome through a set of louvers. These louvers force the entering air to circulate upwards into a rotating impeller creating a “Sy-Klone” effect within the dome. This cyclone uses the power of physics and centrifugal “force” to force any airborne particulates with mass greater than air to the outside of the dome as it’s being whirled around. But where does all of that stuff go? The Series 9001 has a small slit in that dome with an opening to allow those trapped particulates out of the dome and away from your air intake. Science!

For a complete explanation of the trickery behind the 9001, click here for an overview from Snorkel Upgrade!

Install Overview

Snorkel Air Ram Removal for 5th Gen 4Runner

Installing the Sy-Klone onto the snorkel is a simple process.

Measure your snorkel inlet to make sure you have the correct Series 9001 snorkel (the ARB snorkel has a 4” inlet). Once you know you have the correct model, remove the standard forward-facing snorkel head with whatever hardware it came with.

Sy Clone Air Ram for Snorkel on 5th Gen 4Runner

Set the supplied stainless steel t-bolt band clamp on the neck of the Sy-Klone and snug it up to keep it from falling off when you place it on the snorkel.

Sy Clone Air Ram for 5th Gen 4Runner Snorkel Intake

Set the pre-cleaner on the snorkel top with the slot facing straight back towards the rear of the 4Runner. This allows debris to exit the dome without turbulent interference.

Snorkel Air Pre-Cleaner for 5th Gen 4Runner

Tighten the clamp until the pre-cleaner is snug on the snorkel body and grab your cold beverage to celebrate your victory in the battle against dirty air!

ARB Safari Snorkel with Pre-Cleaner on 5th Gen 4Runner

Now that you’ve installed and admired your new Series 9001 pre-cleaner, I’ll cue you in on a couple more bonus design details.

Sy-Klone Details

ARB Snorkel Pre Cleaner Installation on 5th Gen 4Runner

With a downward-facing inlet, the Sy-Klone skirts one of the known issues with forward-facing snorkel inlets, snow/ice accumulation. Those that have driven through heavy wet snow know that the grille on the face of a standard snorkel can quickly clog and ultimately require clearing to function properly.

Pulling air from below reduces the likelihood of clogging due to ice build-up, keeping you moving forward even in the worst storms. In severe conditions where snow build-up occurs on the lower grid is unavoidable, the first grid can be unscrewed and removed. From here, any snow that enters the dome will be ejected out the back just like any other particulate. Pretty rad!

5th Gen 4Runner Pre Filter for ARB Snorkel

Trails are full of trees, rocks, bushes, and other items that are right at the height of your snorkel inlet. In a scenario where a tree branch impacts your standard snorkel head, the force could damage your a-pillar where it connects to the top of the snorkel, maybe even your fender! The Sy-Klone has built-in relief points in the main structure that are designed to break if there is a large impact. This sacrificial design keeps your snorkel and bodywork intact if something unexpected happens when you’re out having fun!

 Final Thoughts

MGM 5th Gen 4Runner with ARB Safari Snorkel

You installed a snorkel on your 4Runner for a reason (or a few), why not take it to the next and end-all level? The addition of the Sy-Klone Series 9001 pre-cleaner to your snorkel adds protection to your motor, increases your filter service life, and provides a few key design advantages over the typical forward-facing snorkel head.

The only thing I wish was addressed with this product is the gap between the bottom of the pre-cleaner and the “step” on the top part of the ARB snorkel. You can cut down the top of the snorkel to mate the pre-cleaner to that ridge, but with limited clearance to the a-pillar, there isn’t really any room to trim it shorter. Other snorkels (Dobinsons) may vary , but I’ll likely add a black sleeve to this small section for appearances’ sake.

From the driver’s seat, the Sy-Klone isn’t really noticeable, unless you lean down a bit like in this photo. There isn’t an increase in wind noise that’s noticeable to me, even with the window down. The only thing you will note is an increase in “intake growl” under load with the passenger window down. I’m more than OK with that, especially in low-range plowing through the snow at high RPM!

I am very excited to give this product a go and really test how well it performs in the Central Oregon dust this summer. I’ll be back after some trips and miles to report back on how the Series 9001 has faired and how dirty my air filter looks… OR DOESN’T!

To order yours head over to Snorkel Upgrade , the exclusive retailer of the Sy-Klone for the overland/off-road market!

Snorkeler over reef with big fish

We have a huge variety of snorkel safaris on our website, with each one offering something unique. Some are resort-based, while for others we charter an entire liveaboard. On some, we combine multiple resorts and liveaboards into one epic trip. Some are centered around reef snorkeling, while on other tours we spend the majority of our time in the open ocean looking for pelagic species. Some are in Asia and others are in South America. If you are new to snorkeling safaris or the destinations, it can be a little confusing choosing the right snorkel safari for you. Here’s a little guide to help you decide.

Liveaboard or Resort

Liveaboard and resort

This is one of the most important decisions to make in our opinion. If you know you are prone to seasickness or just really want to have more space to move around, then a resort might be more enjoyable for you. If you want to have the opportunity to venture a bit further into the region and just love the idea of falling asleep and waking up at sea on a luxury yacht, a liveaboard may be right for you.

One Destination or Multiple

We have quite a few different combination trips, like Alor-Komodo , or North Sulawesi-Raja Ampat , or even our Epic Indonesia tour which stops at five different locations over the better part of a month. If you just don’t want to miss anything and don’t mind the extra travel involved, then joining one of these combination tours may be a wise choice. For these tours the average time at each location will be 4-6 nights with a day of travel in between. Just keep in mind there will be a bit more packing and unpacking as well as additional time spent flying between locations.

Alor-Komodo Itinerary

If you really just want to soak up the atmosphere and sights of one location without worrying about packing and unpacking, then a single stop may be the best option for you. On these tours we spend anywhere from one week to ten days at the resort or on the vessel, which is plenty of time to unwind and immerse yourself in this unbelievable world, while not ever getting tired of the sites.

Reef-Critters-Big Fish-Pelagics

What the underwater experience is like and what you’ll see is also a very important factor in deciding which snorkel safari is best for you. Some locations like Belize , Alor , Wakatobi , and the Philippines are very much centered around pristine reefs and critters, while other places like Raja Ampat , Komodo , and Triton Bay offer a mix of reef, pelagic species like mantas, and big fish.

Snorkeler floating over reef in Komodo National Park

Then we have a couple of trips to Mexico and South Africa which are almost entirely spent searching for those charismatic pelagic species like sea lions, dolphins, sharks, rays, and whales in the open blue ocean. We do our best to make this as clear as possible on each tour page with our marine life-icons, so it’s really important to consider what type of snorkeling experience you would like to have.

Die Hard Snorkeling or a Leisurely Snorkeling Holiday

two paddle boarders infront of misool resort's bungalows

This isn’t a huge thing, but I do think it should be considered. What type of holiday are you looking for? Do you only plan to exit the water for meals, or do you want to take the snorkeling easy while also indulging in naps, beach lounging, and massages? If you are just gung-ho about spending every minute in the water, a resort with its own house reef or liveaboard would be a wise choice. If you plan to just do a couple of snorkels a day but would also like to do things like kayak and enjoy the onsite spa, then just about any resort in Indonesia, Belize, or the Philippines would be your best bet as they all offer plenty of activities outside of snorkeling.

Four Seasons Resort Bali

Jimbaran bay .

Best Family Resorts Bali: Four Seasons Resort Bali

The new nature-inspired  Umah Rare Kids’ Club  helps the little ones learn all about ancient Balinese culture giving them incredibly special opportunities to learn how to weave palm leaves into decorative ornaments from a Balinese priestess whilst dancing with the local children,  play coconut bowls, fly hand-crafted kites on the beach, make local fruit-based desserts with the chefs and the list just goes on and on. For a truly beautiful and stimulating experience for the kiddies (and more time for parents to recharge too), this is a great pick.

Book your stay here.

Mara River Safari Lodge Hotel

Best Family Resorts Bali: Mara River Safari Lodge Hotel Bali

As far as epic hotels go, you can’t go past the safari-themed  Mara River Safari Lodge  situated within the beloved Bali Safari and Marine Park near Mount Agung. Not only are there gorgeous pristine suites, restaurants and spas on site, but more importantly you can watch the graceful elephants, zebras, hippos and other majestic animals in their natural habitat from your windows grazing on their lunch like you’ve transported into some prehistoric land before time. A true treat that everyone will remember.

The Westin Resort

Best Family Resorts Bali: The Westin Resort

Many families love the peaceful shores of Nusa Dua for its tranquil beachside calmness away from the craziness and chaos of inner Bali, particularly if you have little ones you have to constantly keep an eye on. Not only do The Westin  have a dedicated kids only freshwater pool with a 12 meter long water slide, but they also have endless water activities like canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding to keep them entertained (and wear them out by bedtime too we hope.)

RIMBA By Ayana Bali

Best Family Resorts Bali: RIMBA By Ayana Bali

This forest haven is for those wanting to be surrounded by lush jungle in absolute luxury from the moment you arrive. This safe and protected 90-hectare estate has access to a whopping 11 pools, a private beach club, 14 restaurants and bars and two iconic bright colourful kids clubs that kids can sneak into through a ‘secret’ poolside entrance  making them feel like the stars of the show.

Meliá Bali

Best Family Resorts Bali: Meliá Bali

This spectacular all-inclusive resort was recently crowned in the World Travel Awards in 2022 thanks to its beachfront luxury and unparalleled level of service that enables you to customise your own dream holiday. For little adventures, there’s plenty of snorkeling, canoeing and paddle boarding gear if you want to hit the water, as well as supplies for tennis, basketball, badminton, yoga and dancing anytime you feel like it! Another cool unique aspect of this hotel is their on-site organic garden where kids can actually help to pick the produce and learn about the lands around them.

Alila Seminyak

Best Family Resorts Bali: Alila Seminyak

There’s a lot to love about Alila Seminyak —not only is it nestled into an eight kilometer stretch of stunning beach or that it has some of the best restaurants, bars and spas on site, but they also offer a fabulous ‘Family Spa’ package where parents can get pampered alongside their little ones with a range of treatments that the whole crew can enjoy.

Bali Dynasty Hotel

Best Family Resorts Bali: Bali Dynasty Hotel

A three-storey waterslide and bright whimsical kids only waterpark? Yes please. The Dynasty has become a cult favourite with Aussie families thanks to their family style rooms that feature bunk beds and a separate parents retreat so you can still get a bit of distance while knowing they’re still close by. And just footsteps away from Kuta’s hot spots like Waterbom Park and the Discovery Shopping Mall, you’ll be right in the heart of the action without having to constantly find transport.

Padma Resort

Best Family Resorts Bali: Padma Resort

If you’re keen to head up to the hills towards the rolling rice patty fields and spiritual heartlands, then Padma Resort is a glorious option. Tucked into an unspoiled river valley overlooking enchanting endless greenery, this luxe five star resort has everything you could need for a truly memorable vacation. While parents can find some tranquility at their world class spa, the kids can settle into the Wolly Kids Club where fun is the name of the game with daily dynamic activities,  learning and swimming that will keep them distracted for hours.

The St Regis Bali Resort

Best Family Resorts Bali: The St Regis Bali Resort

Picture yourself sitting out amongst the stars on a balmy Bali evening with twinkling festoon lights above while you watch a private outdoor screening of the kids’ fave film. It’s this attention to detail and outstanding hospitality that makes St Regis such a fabulous family destination as they’re wildly creative in their ways of engaging the little ones like their daily Tiny Afternoon Tea where children snack on donut towers, lollipop cakes and milkshakes while the parents get some relaxing downtime before the outdoor cinema and dinner is ready.

Hard Rock Hotel

Best Family Resorts Bali: Hard Rock Hotel

If you’re looking for a resort that you never have to leave to have fun, then it’s very hard to look beyond the epic Hard Rock pool area. With endless waterslides, swim-up bars, sneaky corners for splashing in and plenty of day beds for mum and dad to lounge in, this place has been adored by families now for generations and with great service and a super central location tucked across the road from the beach, the kids will never want to leave.

InterContinental Bali Resort

Jimbaran bay.

Best Family Resorts Bali: InterContinental Bali Resort

Set along the picturesque Jimbaran Bay, just a 40-minute drive from vibrant Seminyak and 90 minutes from the cultural haven of Ubud,  InterContinental Bali Resort  stands as a sprawling haven for those seeking the epitome of resort-style indulgence.

For those of you travelling with kids, the IHG property boasts everything you could need for a family-friendly holiday including six pools, a 500-meter prime stretch of white sand beach, extensive gardens for little ones to run around, a delicious kid-friendly menu, and even a dedicated child-care facility called Planet Trekkers—one of the best kids clubs we have come across.

Catering to young guests between four and 12 years of age, Planet Trekkers offers a range of indoor and outdoor activities to keep the kiddies entertained including garland and greeting card making, paper crafts, egg hunts, games, drawing, and so much more. There’s also plenty of toys and soft play equipment on hand. For activities the whole family can enjoy, we recommend checking out the kite making and flying, bike tours, and mini soccer games.

In terms of actual accommodation, the resort features 425 guest rooms, suites, and villas across multiple categories. Most rooms are designed with balconies and living spaces so there’s plenty of room for everyone.
