Update (July 29):  This article has been updated with an average Thirty Seconds To Mars setlist.

Thirty Seconds To Mars have already reached new heights ahead of their massive Seasons World Tour following frontman Jared Leto scaling the Empire State Building to announce the eight-month global trek. Behind the band’s 2023 album, It’s the End of the World but It’s a Beautiful Day , the latest Thirty Seconds To Mars setlist is equally primed to match the group’s lofty ambitions.

Reflecting on his tour-heralding climb later on Instagram, Leto fittingly described the band’s new full-length as “pushing yourself to do the seemingly impossible,” which he extended to “touring the world with my brother [drummer Shannon Leto] and sharing these unforgettable concerts and experiences with you all.” Although the rock duo have never been in short supply of exhilarating live moments, from their Guinness World Record-setting Into the Wild tour to Leto’s daring stage dive at the 2023 Austin City Limits Music Festival , the Seasons World Tour makes for a long-awaited return as their first headlining tour in five years.

I spent $256 on a ticket and flew from Florida to Las Vegas to see this fiasco of a show. The show was supposed to start at 9. The curtain finally rose at almost 9:30. The drums and bass were so loud, little of the vocals could be heard. The band was off several times, there was limited choreography, 2 solos (drum and piano, neither of which were Bruno, OBVIOUS TIME FILLERS), and the show lasted one hour and 15 minutes. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!!!! IT SUCKED!! I am used to hearing songs sung at concerts, not stopped mid-way to laugh and joke. Bruno Mars needs to go to some REAL concerts so he can see how to please his PAYING AUDIENCE. Go get some lessons from Pink, Elton John, who ever, Bruno, cause your show is a joke!!

The Bruno Mars concert was amazing! The only fault that I would say is that there was a lot of waiting Dua Lipa was right on time and it felt like when’s Bruno coming?! Then after Dua Lipa we had to wait for them to set Bruno up which felt like forever, but when he was out there it was amazing he had fireworks and amazing dance moves and his singing was just amazing. He even added some comedy in there, and he was putting his absolute all you could see by the sweat on his body. After we thought it was over but he surprised us with an extra song :) it was an experience of a lifetime and I must say for my first concert it was A M A Z I N G ! For the merchandise I feel some of it was just a bit overpriced like the hats.

Rocket Lab's Mars probes reach launch site ahead of 1st flight on Blue Origin New Glenn rocket (photos)

'Now, we're thrilled to embark on this first step of our journey to Mars!'

a yellow forklift carries a large white box with the words "rocket lab" on its side

Two Mars-bound smallsats that will fly on the highly anticipated debut of Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket have arrived at their launch site in Florida.

The satellite duo, known as ESCAPADE ("Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers"), are set to launch atop New Glenn no earlier than Oct. 13 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. They'll arrive in Mars orbit in September 2025, on a NASA mission to study how incoming charged particles from the sun interact with and alter the planet's magnetic environment.

The two coordinated robotic explorers could paint a more detailed picture of how Mars' interaction with the solar wind influences the leaking of the planet's thin atmosphere , and how its climate evolved over time to lose what scientists think was once a plentiful reserve of liquid water on the surface.

On Aug. 18, the twin ESCAPADE spacecraft arrived at the Astrotech Space Operations Facility in Titusville, Florida, to prepare for launch. At the facility, which is owned by Lockheed Martin, teams will check various aspects of the satellites in a dedicated cleanroom, including their electrical circuits and potential leaks in their tanks before carrying out the final assembly.

The spacecraft will be fueled next month, NASA said in a recent statement .

"The successful delivery of the spacecraft marks a significant milestone and the culmination of over three years of dedicated teamwork from individuals across the project," ESCAPADE Principal Investigator Rob Lillis, of the University of California, Berkeley, said in the NASA statement. "Now, we're thrilled to embark on this first step of our journey to Mars!"

The two small satellites were built by California-based Rocket Lab and UC Berkeley, which is leading the mission and has dubbed the satellites "Blue" and "Gold" after the school's traditional colors. Each probe weighs under 198 pounds (90 kilograms) and carries three science instruments. The total cost for the mission is less than $80 million, according to the mission website .

The value of the launch contract that NASA signed with Blue Origin is $20 million, SpaceNews reported .

ESCAPADE is among a wave of low-cost, high-risk NASA missions to other planets, which otherwise typically demand over a decade of development and exceed $1 billion in costs. "Sending two spacecraft to Mars for the total cost of $80 million is just unheard of, but current NASA leadership is taking the risk," Lillis said in a previous press release . "Instead of spending $800 million for a 95% chance of success, can we spend $80 million for an 80% chance? This is what NASA is trying to find out with these missions, and we are lucky to be one of the guinea pigs."

The satellites were initially scheduled to piggyback on the same SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket that would loft the Psyche asteroid mission in August 2022. They were removed , however, after delays to the Psyche mission resulted in a new trajectory that didn't support dropping ESCAPADE off at Mars. (Psyche ended up launching successfully in October 2023.) The satellite duo then became the primary payload onboard Blue Origin's first orbital rocket, New Glenn , which is a two-stage heavy-lift rocket named after NASA astronaut John Glenn , who in 1962 became the first American to circle Earth.

New Glenn is 322 feet (98 meters) tall, roughly the height of a 30-story building, and is capable of launching roughly 45 metric tons into low Earth orbit. Its maiden flight will come after more than a decade of development by Blue Origin , which was founded by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos , and over three years later than the company hoped for.

Once the ESCAPADE satellites reach Mars in September 2025, "the mission team will need several months to configure their orbits for science observations," NASA said in the recent news release. Their orbit will be adjusted over several months such that by early 2026 they'll follow each other in a "string of pearls" formation, which will allow them to gather data on Mars' rapidly changing response to the solar wind .

They will later break into different orbits such that they can observe both the solar wind and Mars' upper atmosphere in real time, according to the space agency. The science mission is designed to last 11 months in Mars orbit, until March 2027.

Meanwhile, the New Glenn first stage is expected to return to Earth shortly after liftoff, demonstrating its reusability. Blue Origin has said that the first stage will operate like a commercial airliner but with cleaner fuel, leading to less waste and lower launch costs.

In recent weeks, portions of other New Glenn rockets scheduled for future flights have suffered damage, Bloomberg reported on Aug. 21. In one incident, the top of Blue Origin's second New Glenn rocket crumpled "like a crushed Coke can," partly due to an error by factory workers who had moved the section into a chilled storage hangar but didn't monitor the hardware afterward. In the second incident, a part of the third New Glenn rocket failed during stress testing and exploded inside a building.

No injuries were reported in either incident, according to Bloomberg, which first broke the news about the recent failures. The issues haven't affected New Glenn's planned debut launch in October, a Blue Origin spokesperson told GeekWire's Alan Boyle .

Rocket Flying to Mars

The Mars Journey Timeline

Print Friendly and PDF

Many of us are fascinated with the idea of traveling to other worlds, especially Mars. The truth is that the solar system is constructed to give us only Mars as a suitable planet. Let’s explore how long it would take to journey to Mars and other fun space travel facts.

Traveling to Mars

Exploring is in our nature. Even in early childhood, we all had the itch to discover. We explored the attic, and if we found some big old heavy chest up there, we couldn’t wait to see what was inside. As teenagers, we rode our bikes ever farther. After college, many of us went overseas.

When it comes to off-Earth travel, we are limited. Mercury and Venus are too hot, way too hot. From Jupiter on outward, no planet has a surface, at least not a solid surface. Nowhere to land. Your rocket would just keep descending into thicker and thicker layers of gases and then gooey liquids. That leaves Mars alone. Mars is on average 142 million miles away from Earth according to NASA .

Earth-like planets: are we alone in the universe, discover the planets in order from the sun.

  • How Fast Does Earth Spin (and Why Don’t We Feel It)?

Its temperatures are not too crazy. The surface of Mars can even reach 40°F at times. Probes show a sandy, rocky terrain that resembles the deserts of the southwestern US . Though half our own planet’s diameter, it’s got the same land area as our world since it has no oceans. And our landers, starting with the twin Vikings in 1976, revealed no poisonous gases or flimsy surfaces incapable of supporting a landing spacecraft. Of course, we’ll go! Beyond the romance are practical reasons. What if we badly mess up our own world? Shouldn’t we have a backup? There’s even some water ice buried in deep-shadowed Martian crevices. We already have the technology to turn that into oxygen for breathing and hydrogen for fuel. It’s starting to sound like Shangri-La or at least summer camp.

mars the planet

How Would We Get to Mars?

Unmanned Martian probes are now almost routine. But the great number of mission failures show it’s not exactly easy. You can’t just aim a rocket at it; that wouldn’t work because Mars, orbiting at 15 miles a second, wouldn’t be in that spot when we arrived. Instead, you use something called a Hohman Transfer Orbit. It gets you there using minimum fuel and granting you maximum payload.

Have you not heard of the Hohmann Transfer Orbit ? It’s a simple concept. Johannes Kepler told us in the 17th century that every planet moves in a path that’s not a circle but an ellipse. Orbital ellipses make each planet regularly arrive at the perihelion or near the point to the Sun, which Earth annually reaches in the first week of January.

Then, on the opposite side of its oval-shaped orbit, planets reach a far point, which we hit every July 4, give or take a day. So when we send any rocket to Mars, we actually blast it more or less forward a bit in Earth’s orbit but at a higher speed, which sends the rocket into a new orbit around the Sun. The spacecraft’s orbit is an ellipse of the right shape and size so that it reaches its far point from the Sun at the Martian orbit’s distance.

If both Earth and Mars magically disappeared, the rocket, using no additional fuel, would continue in this orbit forever, coming back to Earth’s distance from the Sun at its perihelion point, whipping around, and then heading outward again to reach its aphelion position at the Martian orbit distance.

Holmann transfer image

How Long Does It Take to Get to Mars?

The tricky part of knowing how long it will take to travel is calculating exactly when to launch. That’s because when your spacecraft reaches Martian orbit, you want Mars to be arriving at that exact spot at the same time.

Then, the Red Planet’s gravity can help you slow down, capture your craft, and, with a few engine burns, let you enter its thin atmosphere for a nice, soft parachute landing.

This Hohmann transfer orbit requires 259 days to reach Mars from Earth (or around 8 ½ months). You can choose to burn more fuel or carry a lighter payload and get there a bit faster, but figure at least half a year at best.

We could have done this already if we only needed a one-way trip without returning home. Say you get some volunteers, maybe people with serious credit card debt. Depressive types who think Earth is overrated and are willing to stake out a permanent new home. The Alaska mentality. So you’d send an advance rocket stocked with food, medical supplies, a bunch of MP3 files and movies, and a disassembled, modular-type shelter so that all such stuff is awaiting the incoming visitors. Now you send your colonists. There, done.

Of course, if the astronauts do want to come home, that changes things eventually. Now, you need to start with a rocket having enough fuel and air for the almost 1 ½-year roundtrip. This is big and expensive, and we’re not quite there yet.

Unfortunately, rescue or return missions to Mars can only happen when the planets align, which occurs every 26 months. At an absolute minimum, that’s more than two years between visits.

But there are other considerations, too.

What Other Factors Affect a Journey to Mars?

The biggest issue is that too many people over-romanticize the Mars thing. Maybe the Red Planet brochure needs to offer a more realistic picture.

  • First, Mars has no air. Or at least nothing breathable. Its atmosphere is so thin that the surface pressure is less than what we have atop Mt. Everest.  See more facts about Earth’s neighbor, planet Mars .
  • And even that super-skimpy vapor is almost pure carbon dioxide. No oxygen . This means you can’t just stroll around outside your spacecraft or sealed modular home. You’re permanently stuck in a spacesuit on the Martian surface. Wouldn’t that grow old pretty quickly?
  • And you’d encounter no living creatures or plant life. And no water, Earth’s most magical compound . You’d never feel a breeze on your skin or hear birdsong or rustling leaves. This brings up an entire psychological issue: Does some basic part of us need earthly sensory experiences? Perhaps it even goes more deeply. Meaning, are we, in some sense, pieces of planet Earth itself?

Are we children of our world, creatures of Earth with millions of years of genetic programming connected with all things earthlike? Bacteria come and go in our systems, and insects land on our skin. Is there some ultradeep connection without which we simply couldn’t live?

We look at zoo animals confined to a small, synthetic zone built to somewhat resemble their home region. What do they do? They pace restlessly, relentlessly. One senses that they feel some deep alienation, of being apart from their home. So, how would humans fare when they no longer receive the slightest aroma of anything? There are no mutating clouds overhead, no contact with strangers, and no life of any kind.

  • Speaking of which, what if they send along the wrong companion for you? You’d be trapped with however many crew members are on the ship. What if you’ve come to hate any of them? Or, less dramatically, simply find a few of them annoying. Well, now you’re stuck with an irksome character day after day—for over two years before you can return.

Added to that alienation thing and the total absence of earthly sensory experiences, might crew members get seriously nutty? Maybe even psychotic?

Let’s not “go there.” Let’s keep it optimistic. Even so, we’ve already seen that you’re on a planet isolated from everything familiar, with day-to-day life a struggle.

  • You’ve got to find and melt ice to make water and create oxygen; you couldn’t possibly bring enough on board.
  • You’ve got to endure nonstop elevated radiation, which isn’t good for you. See more ways living on Mars would affect the human body .
  • If you suddenly need extensive dental work or suffer appendicitis, there are no hospital facilities, and even if there were, they probably wouldn’t accept your plan.

Remember that woman researcher in the Antarctic a few years ago? A doctor herself, she recognized that the growing lump in her breast was probably cancer. But there are no facilities at the South Pole that could have helped her. Ultimately, our government flew in a risky rescue plane to land in the pitch-black conditions of the Antarctic winter. But if it was Mars? The nearest help would be a 17-month round-trip evacuation.

Another issue is the public reaction back home. Amid the current optimistic, Alaska-bound excitement of colonizing another planet, what would happen when actual struggles became widely recognized? Or, God forbid, one of the crew members, whom the world would have long gotten to know on a televised and Web first-name basis, the way everyone was familiar with Neil and Buzz on the Moon, what if they died? A stroke or appendicitis or something treatable had they been on Earth? Wouldn’t that instantly cool the popular ardor of wanting to try living off-planet?

Or consider: Many cite Mars as attractive because Earth’s population, now at around 8 billion, is making us increasingly crowded. Earth’s urban population surpassed its rural numbers in 2007. It again resurrected the Alaska mentality, the attraction for an uncrowded life. Yet there are many terrestrial places where no one wants to live even though they’d have it all to themselves. Why are virtually no habitations in the Sahara or Atacama? Or villages built on lofty mountain plateaus in the Himalayas? Sure, life would be tough in such spots, but at least you could breathe the air.

Mars is incomparably more dangerous as a place to attempt simple survival. Such super-taxing everyday life is more than merely a totally synthetic environment surrounded by computers, LED s, and the constant humming of air purifiers.

What Would the Mars Journey Cost?

High technology also means astronomical costs. Round-trip transportation alone would amount to at least $25 million per colonist.

When the world fully learns that such expense doesn’t necessarily buy anybody a good time, wouldn’t the queue of “I want to go next!” volunteers visibly shrink? This writer isn’t suggesting that this scenario is inevitable or even likely; it’s merely a possible side of the Mars-Colony dream that has perhaps received inadequate consideration.

It’s not hard to imagine a point when some psychologists publish papers suggesting that perhaps the Mars-colonization vogue isn’t borne of an innate human desire to explore. Rather, they may reason that its etiology could arise from a different human characteristic: restlessness. Or the compulsive need to always experience the “next new thing.” Ecologists would get their own turn chiming in, which is sometimes expressed even today: We’re fooling ourselves if we imagine that obtaining a “spare” planet if we totally mess up Earth might constitute a workable solution or bring human salvation.

Because—Earth is inside us. Our planet is unique and precious beyond words. There simply can be no true “spare.” Instead, a different focus is demanded. That we finally learn to be gentle and sensible with our home world. Because, in fact, there really is no other.

Field Guide to Boston

5 things to do this weekend, including a multisensory mars concert and a.r.t.'s 'romeo and juliet'.

  • Maddie Browning

I was never really a space kid. I get nauseous sometimes just waking up, and I vividly remember how horrific I felt getting off of the “Mission: SPACE” simulator ride at Epcot. However, I love a good concert and immersive art experience. The Museum of Science is bringing the sounds and vibes of space without the g-forces, spinning and tilting, so if that’s also more up your alley, head to Mars this Thursday, Aug. 29. If thinking about the vast expanses beyond our planet sends you into an existential crisis, there are plenty of other events happening in Greater Boston this Labor Day weekend that are more grounded and lighthearted.

Mars Symphony

Thursday, aug. 29.

Have you always wanted to know what it would be like to take a rocket ship to Mars? At the Museum of Science on Thursday, guests will experience the closest version of Mars that they can as residents of Earth, hearing sounds from the red planet, layered with a live orchestra playing a score by Boston-based composer David Ibbett. Winds, dust devils and seismic rumbles will accompany footage at the Charles Hayden Planetarium for a rich, multisensory experience in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The show also integrates research and audio from the Perseverance Rover and Webb Space Telescope. The 7:30 p.m. show sold out, but an additional show at 9:30 p.m. was added. As of publication, tickets are still available. Tickets are $20.

Campfire Festival

Friday, aug. 30-monday, sept. 2.

Club Passim has hosted its cozy laid-back Campfire Festival for 25 years. The four-day event presents dozens of up-and-coming artists for attendees to catch their favorites and find new bands to add to their playlists. Boston duo Axel & Lolo , who play WBUR’s CitySpace on Sept. 27 , and Northampton singer-songwriter Lisa Bastoni will perform this weekend. Past performers include alt-indie band Lake Street Dive, electro-folk duo Tall Heights and folk singer-songwriter Alisa Amador. One-day tickets are $15 and full festival passes are $30. The entire event is free for students.

2024 New England Regional Juried Exhibition

Saturday, aug. 31-saturday, sept. 28.

The Guild of Boston Artists, a nonprofit art gallery on Newbury Street, develops an annual exhibition showcasing and awarding realist work by student, emerging and established artists. Photorealism oil painter Paul Beckingham and sculptor Erin McCarthy are among the 37 selected artists. The opening reception and awards presentation will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31 from 3-5 p.m. Winning artists will present their work and answer questions during a panel on Saturday, Sept. 14. Both events are free and open to the public.

' Romeo and Juliet '

Saturday, aug. 31-sunday, oct. 6.

Have you been hoping damaged, easy-on-the-eyes Rudy Pankow (who plays JJ in Netflix’s “Outer Banks”) would eventually hit the stage? If you can get to Harvard’s Loeb Drama Center, you’re in luck. Pankow and Emilia Suárez — an actress and singer-songwriter featured in Hulu’s rom-com series “Up Here” — will star in American Repertory Theater’s rendition of “Romeo and Juliet” beginning Saturday, Aug. 31. For those who aren’t familiar, the play by William Shakespeare follows the torrid love affair between Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, star-crossed lovers from feuding families. They fight for their love, but after quarrels and consequent deaths of family and friends, their story ends, too. It’s a tragic, timeless tale that will be reinvigorated by the TV stars. The play runs through Sunday, Oct. 6 with tickets ranging from $35-150.

Experience Chinatown Arts Festival

Sunday, sept. 1-sunday, oct. 27.

The Pao Arts Center is kicking off its 7th annual Experience Chinatown Arts Festival. The festival is a means of celebrating Boston’s Chinatown and the local AAPI community. Murals will be on display across restaurants in Chinatown starting Sunday, Sept. 1. The artists were asked to paint on the theme "What collective actions can we take for a healthy Chinatown?" Boston-based graphic designer Dana Balletta developed a mural at WakuWaku Ramen at 2 Tyler St.. Her work investigates her identity as a transracial adoptee and what it means to be Chinese and American. Japanese American illustrator Yuko Okabe paints whimsical, colorful stories and created a mural at Q Restaurant at 660 Washington St. Performances will take place at Auntie Kay & Uncle Frank Chin Park on The Greenway on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Pao Art Center’s “ The Inventive Brush: Calligraphic Echoes from China, Japan, and Korea ” — exploring the diversity of contemporary calligraphy and featuring local artists Mike Yuguo Mei, Michiko Imai and YoungSun Jang — also runs through Friday, Dec. 13. The festival is free but welcomes donations.

We found the best prices on last-minute bruno mars las vegas tickets.

Bruno Mars sings and plays the guitar while wearing sunglasses.

On Aug. 16, 2024, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga released their new throwback single “Die With A Smile.”

Music Talkers called the track “a soulful masterpiece,” Clash claimed “their voices blend to profound effect” and Entertainment Weekly dubbed the tune “a spiritual sequel to ‘Shallow.'”

And, according to Set List FM , Mars is already working the soaring duet into his concerts.

If you want to hear the brand-new jam live — along with all of Mars’ other major hits like “Uptown Funk,” “Locked Out Of Heaven,” “24K Magic” and countless others — tickets are available for all ten of Mars’ remaining Las Vegas residency gigs at Dolby Live at Park MGM.

You will need to be a bit of a high roller to afford them, though.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on seats was $178 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Other shows start anywhere from $215 to $386 before fees.

That being said, the top dollar price is likely worth every penny because the 15-time Grammy winner puts on such an entertaining show.

“The energy and excitement in the arena were electrifying,” Ebony raved about a recent Sin City concert. “Mars and his band put on a very high-energy performance for the sold-out crowd.”

Want to go?

You’re in the right place, Hooligans.

For more information, our team has everything you need to know and more about Bruno Mars’ Las Vegas residency below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Bruno Mars concert schedule 2024

A complete calendar including all residency dates, start times and links to buy tickets can be found here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and, if it isn’t noted, will include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Anderson .Paak tour

Mars’ Silk Sonic bandmate Anderson .Paak is striking out on a tour of his own this year. He’ll perform his 2016 album “The Malibu” in its entirety at all shows.

If you want to see him live, Anderson .Paak’s complete tour schedule can be found here .

Bruno Mars set list

While we can’t confirm what Mars will play at the show of your choosing, here’s what he brought to the Intuit Dome stage on Aug. 16, courtesy of Set List FM :

01.) “24K Magic” 02.) “Finesse” 03.) “Treasure” 04.) “Billionaire” 05.) “Perm” 06.) “That’s What I Like / Please Me” 07.) “Versace on the Floor” 08.) “It Will Rain” 09.) “Marry You” 10.) “Runaway Baby” 11.) “F— You / Young, Wild and Free / Grenade / Talking to the Moon / Nothin’ on You” 12.) “Leave the Door Open” (Silk Sonic song) 13.) “When I Was Your Man” 14.) “Locked Out of Heaven” 15.) “Just the Way You Are”

16.) “Die With a Smile” 17.) “Uptown Funk”

Bruno Mars new music

As you may have noticed above, Mars and Lady Gaga dropped the single “Die With A Smile” on Aug. 16.

The impassioned duet is Mars’ first new release since 2021’s “An Evening With Silk Sonic.”

In the off chance you haven’t listened yet, you can give “Die With A Smile” a spin here .

Huge stars on tour in 2024

For those unable to make it to Las Vegas these next couple months, there’s no need to freak.

Many of the biggest names in music are on the road all year long.

Here are just five of our favorites you won’t want to miss live.

Eclipse on Earth, Exploration on Mars

On Saturday, October 14th, an annular eclipse will be visible across much of North, Central, and South America. Although Perseverance won't see this event from Mars, it’s no stranger to  Martian eclipses .

Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos, which are both significantly smaller than Earth's Moon. When directly overhead, Phobos appears about one-third the size of our full Moon, while Deimos looks about one-twelfth the size, appearing merely as a dot when passing the sun. Neither moon is large enough to fully cover the sun, so all eclipses on Mars are annular eclipses, where the sun appears as a ring of light around the dark moon. These events are also known as transits.

Perseverance last observed a transit of Phobos on November 25 th , 2022 (Sol 628) and a transit of Deimos on December 4 th , 2022 (Sol 637) using its Mastcam-Z instrument, atop its Remote Sensing Mast. Just as our eyes require protection to view an eclipse, Mastcam-Z does too. It’s equipped with Neutral Density Filters, which function in a similar way to eclipse glasses and allow only 0.0001% of light to reach the left camera and 0.001% of light to reach the right camera. In fact, Mastcam-Z’s ND filters surpass the protection of standard eclipse glasses on Earth, which should allow no more than 0.0032% of light to pass through.

As people on Earth turn their eyes to the eclipse, Perseverance remains focused on exploring Mars. Following a set of drives, Perseverance arrived at a location called Turquoise Bay on October 3 rd , 2023 (Sol 932). The rover then commenced a series of proximity science and remote science observations, including an abrasion of a rock target dubbed Bills Bay on October 6 th , 2023 (Sol 935). The team is eagerly looking forward to continuing Perseverance’s journey to  Jurabi Point  in the upcoming weeks.
