The final ever episode of “ The Grand Tour ” is almost here and Prime Video is giving fans a sneak peak of what to expect — and when.

“The Grand Tour: One for the Road,” a one-off special representing the conclusion of the long-running series, is set to launch on Sept. 13 on the streamer in over 240 countries. Producer Andy Wilman unveiled a first-look image (see above) and release date at the Edinburgh TV Festival , where he is appearing on a panel.

It will see Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May reunite on a final road trip.

The trio then landed at Prime, where they continued their motoring adventures on “The Grand Tour.” In a podcast interview earlier this summer, May reflected on their decades-long journey. “I recorded today the last piece of voice-over I will ever record for ‘The Grand Tour’ – and therefore in that whole legacy of ‘Grand Tour,’ ‘Top Gear’ and the few things I did before that,” he said. “We’ve done it for nearly 22 years – a lot longer than we thought we would. I thought, when I started doing it in 2003 or 2004, that this was a bit of a laugh. Maybe it’ll last a few years. And, here we are, grey and wizened and sagging. And we’ve only just stopped doing it. It’s quite remarkable.”

Everything We Know About The Next Grand Tour Episode: A 2,000KM European Road Trip

The Grand Tour released its latest episode , The Scandi Flick, to hugely positive reviews, and now fans of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May are eager to know when the next episode will air and what it will involve.

Three months ago, The Grand Tour team returned from Europe after a long stint of filming. Travelling from Poland to Slovenia, the trio drove 2,000km to bring us what looks to be the best episode so far.

With the latest episode now over and fans revelling in the memories, I thought I’d explore everything we know about the upcoming European special from the cars they drive, to the planes they fly.

Where and Where Did They Start Filming?

Clarkson, Hammond, and May left from Oxford International Airport on June 19th on a private jet. They landed in Gdansk , Poland soon after, where their journey began.

Here, they joined their three cars, a Chevrolet SSR, a Crosley Convertible, and a Mitsuoka Le-Seyde which they took to Długia Street. According to Google Maps, this is completely pedestrianised, but according to local reports, the filming was done under secrecy with not even the local law enforcement knowing about the team and their plans.

This area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city leading from the Golden Gate to Długi Targ square. It looks like the trio drove the length of this, as well as around the post-shipyard areas, the port, and Westerplatte.

This is where our assumptions begin. Gdansk is home to where the first gunshots of World War II were shot, and this theme continues to a few of the locations the team travels to later in the week of filming.

Before they left the city, a hot rod based on a 1959 Ford Popular was also spotted. This will become more prevalent later on.

Did The Grand Tour Travel to Ukraine?

It was a couple of days into filming where fans started wondering if The Grand Tour was heading to Ukraine . As we know, Jeremy has been very passionate about supporting the people of Ukraine since the war with Russia started, so at this point it wasn’t such a stretch, especially when Jeremy showed his support of driving armoured vehicles into the country on Twitter.

As we now know, the team didn’t make it to Ukraine. Instead, they traveled South-West.

Zielona Gora – The Grand Tour Visits Vineyards

We followed the trio as they traveled to Zielona Gora, a city in the Lubusz province of the country. It’s known for its endless vineyards so it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see Clarkson, Hammond and May tasting some wine at this point of the episode.

It also has connections to WWII, with it being reported that 30% of the city had been damaged by the Germans.

Richard Hammond Crashes At Tor Poznań Racetrack

Continuing West, the trio were spotted at a racetrack. I did some investigation work and figures out that this was the Tor Poznań racetrack in the city of Poznan. The track almost became part of the F1 calendar in the ’80s thanks to its connection to Polish F1 driver Robert Kubica, but this never came to fruition.

This didn’t stop Clarkson, Hammond and May from driving some open-wheeled race cars around the track. As you heard, Richard Hammond lived up to his antics and crashed into a barrier . He was unhurt but the car sustained a little front-end damage. According to our sources, this was caused by the engine seizing. Hammond was seen next to the wreck in a racing suit with May stood next to him looking a bit disappointed in his fellow presenter.

Judging from a photo of Jeremy with a stop watch hung around his neck, it looks like they were doing timed laps here.

James May Breaks Down

As the trio headed from Poznan to Lower Silesia, Hammond’s bad luck was passed to James May as his Crosley broke down . We don’t know what happened to the car, but it was pushed onto the back of a trailer as May waited for a replacement.

What was that replacement? The hot rod, of course.

The Grand Tour Visits a German Concentration Camp

Next stop: Jeremy posted a photo to his Instagram account of Stalag Luft 3, a German concentration camp in the town of town of Sagan, Lower Silesia. This continues the WWII theme and should act as a sobering moment in the episode. Around this time the team also visited Krakow.

Leaving The Country and Entering Slovakia

After a brief drive through Czechia, the trio was seen driving through Slovakia, the country where there are the most cars produced per capita. Here they visited Patak Motors who showed the presenters their car, the Roadster.

Jeremy Clarkson Drives The Skoda 1100 OHC Spider

Still in Slovakia, Jeremy gets into the driver’s seat of a Skoda 1100 OHC Spider , which he describes as “absolutely fantastic”, at Piešťany Airport. At the same time, James May was spotted driving the KleinVision AirCar .

The Road To The Finale

The trio continue their travels through Bratislava where they go cycling by the Danube River before continuing to Hungary, and eventually Slovenia.

Slovenia, The Final Destination Of The Grand Tour European Special

Here, Clarkson and Hammond were spotted on Lake Bled without May in the northwest of Slovenia in the Julian Alps. Again, we don’t quite know what they were doing, but they were seen rowing a boat onto the lake before Hammond stood up, rocking the boat.

Despite this being an incredibly popular area for tourists, barely any footage from around the area was taken which is a shame.

Jeremy Clarkson On The Release Date Of The European Special In Interview

Soon after, Clarkson and Hammond were interviewed by Radio 1 Slovenia in what seemed to be the most awkward interview I’ve ever watched , but Jeremy gives a brief outline of the trip.

He describes it as a “2,200 kilometer drive from Gdansk at the top of Poland. All the way down to Krakow, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and then here.” He then admits that it’ll be six months before we see the episode on Amazon Prime.

The Grand Tour Filming Comes To An End

A day later, a video was posted by Jeremy of the team celebrating the two weeks of filming coming to an end. Jeremy, Richard, and James were joined by what looked to be the whole team, as well as producer Andy Wilman playing air guitar.

It looks like lots of fun was had, as well as lots of gin.

“It’s richer, there’s more to do. Russia is barren, so you can’t find as much nonsense to do,” Wilman said in an interview with Grand Tour Nation and other press.

“An ice lake with a racetrack on it, the skiers, those kinds of things that we did in this film, that wasn’t going to come our way in Russia, so it did give us more content being where we were.

“Submarine base tunnels? With the best will in the world, I can’t imagine the Russians going, ‘Yes, help yourselves’, so it did come good on that front.”

Richard Hammond On the Episode

“I think it worked out even better,” he said in an interview with Grand Tour Nation and other press.

“We sort of revelled in the landscape more. We know that part of the world, we’ve filmed there before, so to connect those places up was great.

“Scandinavia is one of those places we’ve returned to many times over the years, like South Africa, Australia, and bits of Germany. Some places that just ‘get’ us, and always have.”

‘The Grand Tour’ presenters share the most memorable moments from the show ahead of the final episode release

After five action-packed seasons, 41 countries, and 187 cars, The Grand Tour is coming to an end, with the final feature-length episode premiering on Prime Video on 13 September .

In the special episode, titled The Grand Tour: One For The Road , Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May head to Zimbabwe in three cars they’ve always wanted to own: a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre, and a Triumph Stag. As they embark on a stunning road trip through Zimbabwe, they say an emotional farewell to their lives together on The Grand Tour .

Clarkson, Hammond, and May spoke about their favourite memories from the series, along with how they chose the cars for their final adventure, and why they wanted the last episode to be a “thank you” to the fans.

How did you come up with the location for the final episode?

Jeremy Clarkson: Although we’ve done some very memorable and very enjoyable specials over the years – like the Middle East and Mongolia ( The Mongolia Special – Survival of the Fattest, 2019 ), and a number of others – the three of us have always agreed that Botswana was our favourite special, probably because it was our first, and so there is nostalgia to that.

Richard Hammond: We knew we wanted to end up on Kubu Island. Beyond that, I think we may have benefited a bit from the experience of making shows through lockdown. We had to strip it back a bit, and it made us think, “Okay, the big bangs and stuff are great, but hang on a minute, let's remember what's at the heart of this show.” And so that was to the fore when we came to say goodbye.

How did you choose the cars?

Jeremy Clarkson: The premise of the original Botswana film was: why, when you leave London and move to Surrey, do you always buy yourself a 4x4? You don’t need one. To prove this, we decided to drive three perfectly ordinary cars across Botswana. I've always liked the premise that cars are much tougher than you think they are. They can take so much punishment; people don't believe how much their car can take before it expires.

So, we did a similar thing this time: the three that we took to Zimbabwe were, on the face of it, ridiculous, but as you can see in the film, they survive. The concept was just driving cars we liked.

James May: I said all along we mustn’t play it for gags, we must have things that we’re genuinely curious about and always wanted. That's always risky with things like cars because inevitably, there's a car you really loved as a kid, but when you get it, it’s crap because it’s 40 or 50 years old.

So, it was a bit risky, but we had to be genuinely invested in our choices because we're not actors. We can't pretend to love things. I know Jeremy's story about looking through the dealership window longingly at the Lancia as a young man is true because I used to go past the same place, and I know exactly what he's talking about.

I had a friend whose parents had a Triumph Stag when I was a kid, and I just thought they seemed amazing. The Stag has a reputation as one of the most unreliable cars ever made but weirdly on this, it kept going all the way through.

Did it feel emotional to film the finale?

Richard Hammond: Not just for the three of us but the entire group. We've worked together for decades and we've been through good times and bad. We've seen each other in jungles covered in leeches, exhausted and grumpy in tents and boiling heat, elated in the most beautiful cities in the world. We’re a great big dysfunctional family, so there were a lot of tears.

Jeremy Clarkson: I'm not saying this in a derogatory way by any means, but James has the emotions of a stone. He just doesn't do emotions, so there were no tears from him. Hammond, yes. I was surprisingly unemotional in a weird way because I can see James and Hammond any time I want to, they’re only a phone call away, and I’m sure we will. And I’ve done enough of the travel, I was worn out by it.

Where I would have been emotional was saying goodbye to the crew because most of them started with us. There's a photograph taken on Kubu Island of Russ Edwards and Casper Leaver (Camera Operator) and Andy Wilman (Executive Producer), who were there on the original crew, and they're still with us. You can’t say that about any other show.

What did you want to achieve with the final film?

James May: I remember saying in an early meeting that it was important that we actually genuinely enjoyed our cars and didn't allow it to descend into too much bickering or aggressive pranking of each other. I also didn't want to be too introverted, emotional or navel-gazing; it had to be joyous. We had to come together and acknowledge our shared enthusiasm. It's quite a tricky balance to strike, I think because it's in our nature to be horrible about each other. And there are a few moments like that, like when I say, “I’m deleting their numbers from my phone” as soon as it’s over. That’s us being quite British and undermining our own feelings, which I think is the right thing to do because that’s genuinely us.

Richard Hammond: We wanted to say “thank you” to the audience. This is the biggest thing to happen in my life ever. It changed my life, it affected my daughters’ lives, my whole family, everything. And that's down to the audience.

I think you will see that this is each of us genuinely saying “thank you”, and the way Andy Wilman put that together – he’s the master behind it. Andy Wilman didn't want it to end on exploding things; he wanted it to be sincere. You don't put on a comedy clown suit to say “thank you”, do you?

What have been the highlights from ‘The Grand Tour’ journey?

Jeremy Clarkson: I have always loved driving into an African city. There’s a buzz in African cities that you don’t get anywhere else. Harare — wow, what a singing, melting pot of busyness and joy that was. Kampala’s the same.

I think the most surprising location in all the years was Mongolia (The Mongolia Special – Survival of the Fattest, 2019). That was incredibly beautiful. It’s carpeted – and I mean completely carpeted – by thyme, rosemary and sage. As you drive along, you just get the smell all day, constantly. And then we drove into a pine forest, and I can still remember that. Mongolia was the nicest smelling country I've ever been to, and the terrain is also visually stunning. For six days, we drove in pretty much a dead straight line, and we never saw a cloud in the sky, a farm animal, a person, a telegraph pole or a pylon – there was simply no evidence that man had ever existed.

Richard Hammond: We’ve always loved Africa, waking up in jungles. I remember in Syria in the desert, we were all staying in this massive tent with about 50 of us, and it was boiling, and I was like, “sod this” so James and I grabbed our gear and decided to sleep in the desert instead. Unfortunately, the incredibly strong and mind-numbingly cold wind shot straight into the sleeping bags. It was just the worst night. We were freezing to death.

There were lots of nights like that. Or I remember lying in a tent in Bolivia at about 35 degrees, full of cockroaches that kept me awake all night. And if it wasn’t the cockroaches, it was the drug runners on mopeds going up and down the dirt track passes.

I remember chasing one of Pablo Escobar’s hippos when we were drunk late at night, trying to get a picture on my phone before thinking, “Hippos are quite dangerous; I probably shouldn’t be doing this.” Lots of stupid, wonderful, privileged moments.

James May: I remember in Chile – or maybe Argentina – staying in a shepherd's hut with simple embroidered bedspreads. I shared a room with Hammond, and it was like an adventure from childhood. It was like going to a holiday cottage somewhere, and it was really brilliant. We did some awful camping all over the world, but it was still quite exciting waking up in the desert or in a rainforest. I wouldn’t have done that were it not for the show.

What we've just done, going across Zimbabwe and into Botswana, I don't know if you could even organise that as a holiday. You could probably pay a posh holiday agent to put that together for you, but it would be extremely expensive, so I’ve seen a lot of places that I simply wouldn’t have done if it hadn't been part of my work.

I’ve thought constantly over the years, “How the hell did this happen?” It really is an enormous privilege, or an enormous stroke of luck, however you want to look at it. Being able to do that and making a living out of it whilst being on the telly and going to foreign places, that blew my mind – it still staggers me.

The Grand Tour: One For The Road – a trip down memory lane

Our 'gouty trio' bow out after 21 years together with banter, breakdowns, and efforts not to blub

The ultimate televised boys' own adventure is coming to a crashing end and there is a "melancholy cast" to this epic two-hour final episode, said The Times ' Victoria Segal. Of course, they're not running short of the "banter, the breakdowns, the stunts" either, yet there's sadness here, too.

"The Grand Tour" started in 2016 after Prime Video gave the trio a new home following Clarkson's dismissal from "Top Gear" by the BBC. And this epic two-hour special is a "well-earned testimonial," said The Telegraph 's Benji Wilson.

The "gouty trio" make for an unlikely "vital cultural export," said The Independent 's Nick Hilton. These rather unglamorous middle-aged men are "global attachés for a form of shambling masculinity." Jeremy Clarkson , James May and Richard Hammond are driving 600 miles across Zimbabwe in their dream wheels – Clarkson in a customised Lancia Montecarlo, May in a Triumph Stag and Hammond in a MK1 Ford Capri RS3100. The landscape is something to behold: notably a "jacaranda-lined avenue in Harare" and a "haze of the salt flats" that they emerge from like Lawrence of Arabia.

The trio have stuck to the line, said Yahoo News 's Ian Hyland that this is the last time they will work together and there is a "definite finality" to proceedings, despite the fact that the first half is mainly made up of stunning scenery, broken down cars and some light bullying of Hammond ( plus ça change ) "well, he had just had a naff tattoo done". Yet, when they reach Harare and read a local paper's write-up of their final journey, the trip become decidedly wistful, though they're clear they won't be "ending up in the same old folks' home together".

Still, perhaps now is not a bad time to be parking up. As Clarkson notes, said Wilson, "Cars aren't as interesting as they used to be: electric cars are essentially just new white goods", where "views and reviews take place largely online".

It's James May who comes closest to blubbing, on Jeremy's newly acquired boat no less, though he quickly pulls out the stiff upper lip, merely saying, "Anyway, I hope we've brought you a little happiness." Indeed, after 21 years together, said Segal, the gang have had a "good run".

"The Grand Tour: One for the Road" is streaming on Prime Video from Friday, 13 September.
