Anheuser-Busch Brewery
Open in 1988, the Fort Collins Anheuser-Busch Brewery brews 33 different beer brands. In 2018 it became the second brewery with the capacity to support their emergency drinking water program. Their team periodically pauses brewing to produce and can emergency drinking water, in an effort to better support their neighbors coast to coast.
The Fort Collins Budweiser factory offers free guided tours. The beer at the end of the mile-and-a-half walk is also free.
While waiting for the Anheuser-Busch Brewery tour to begin, we help ourselves to complimentary soda and pretzels in the bar. The adjacent gift shop sells all the Budweiser paraphernalia one could want, including T-shirts that say “don’t worry, be hoppy.”
Our tour guide, Cory, gathers the group together and gets us under way. Our first stop: the Clydesdale Hamlet, home of the famous Budweiser horses. Cory explains the Fort Collins Bud brewery is the training facility that teaches these immense creatures to be commercial stars, parade ponies and everything else the job demands.
He then leads us through the Willy Wonka-style gates and up to the brewery doors. Inside, we take an elevator to the “hot side” where wort – a young, unfermented beer mixture – is made. Through the hall windows we see the brewing vats – gigantic silver cones that make this facility tied for the fifth-largest automated brewery in the Budweiser system.
From here the wort is sent to the “cold side,” where other ingredients are added. We follow suit, passing in hallways filled with black-and-white photos of the company’s founding workers and product.
In the second elevator, we can smell the bitter fragrance of hops from the room above. As we enter, we stare at the enormous holding vats. “We still make beer like they did back then,” Cory says, “…but we’ve made it more efficient. Guys like Busch, Pabst and Coors are responsible for the mechanization.”
After a few educational stops, we’re led to the beer packing and shipping area. As we watch the massive amounts of machinery, Cory explains the entire process, from the brew being poured, to the cans being pasteurized.
A display of the beer line is next.
“I’ve tried every beer in this case – for training purposes, of course,” Cory says jokingly, “so I can help you find a beer you’ll like.”
Walking through the advertisement hall, with familiar slogans like “This Bud’s for you” and “Nothing beats a Bud,” we pass into the lager cellar. The room, kept at a chilly 48 degrees, stores rows upon rows of giant vats with fermenting lager. The deep carbonated smell fills our nostrils, adding to the anticipation of the beer that awaits.
Once the tour is over, we’re back to the bar to treat our taste buds. Cory explains each 3-ounce taster of beer our bartender serves, from the intake to the aftertaste, and invites us to have an additional 10-ounce beer of our choice.
This tour, which lasts about 1 ½ hours, is free from start to finish, but an expanded Brewmaster Tour is offered for $25 per person. In addition to a hat, T-shirt, tasting glass and 10 percent discount at the gift shop, the paid tour offers a more in-depth look at what makes the Anheuser-Busch one of the most popular companies in the world.
Beermaster Tours must be scheduled in advance, and participants must wear closed-toe shoes and pants. $25 per person for those 21 and older, $10 for those 13 to 20, who are not allowed to taste the beer. October-May, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Thursday through Monday, June-September, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily.

The Budweiser Clydesdales’ Next Visit to Colorado Will Bring a Great Change
- Share on Facebook
Coloradans can very much look forward to seeing the Budweiser Clydesdales' West Coast Hitch come to Fort Collins on their next visit.
They're so majestic, so tall, so massive. The Budweiser Clydesdales. They're part of America's heritage, in their way; they are definitely part of the Budweiser heritage.
The next time we see them in Colorado , we should notice something different.
How many times have you been out to the Anhueser-Busch facilities to see the Clydesdales? Do you go every time they're in Fort Collins, or only when you also have friends/family visiting?
It's funny how you really don't know how big a Clydesdale is until you see one in person, like during a "Clydesdale's Camera Day" at the Fort Collins stables.
RELATED: THE HISTORY OF ANHEUSER-BUSCH IN FORT COLLINS
Is the budweiser biergarten/experience in fort collins open yet.
As of September 2023, the Budweiser Biergarten/Experience and the Tour Center are still closed to the public, since shutting down in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Hopefully, they'll re-open soon, but in the meantime, the Clydesdales will still be stopping in town for Camera Days.
WHAT WILL BE DIFFERENT THE NEXT TIME THE BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES ARE IN COLORADO?
It was announced in September of 2023 that after decades of the Clydesdales' tails being cut, Anheuser-Busch will no longer be doing that.
WHY WERE THEY CUTTING THE CLYDESDALES' TAILS, ANYWAY?
"Docking" was done for many, many years to keep the Clydesdales' tails from becoming tangled with the harness or other equipment related to their hitch.
According to NPR, Equine magazine states that nowadays, amputating Clydesdales' tails has mostly been done for cosmetic purposes.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE CLYDESDALES?
With their full tails, the horses are able to swat away flies and other insects, that their shortened tails couldn't reach.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will follow up on Harris’s Tuesday face-off against Donald Trump by embarking on a whirlwind tour of swing states in hopes of seizing momentum off her debate performance this week.
The Harris-Walz campaign says the vice president and her running-mate will criss-cross the country following Tuesday night’s debate to make appearances in each individual media market in every single swing state over a four-day period next week.
The candidates’ spouses, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walz, will also make a series of appearances in support of the campaign in the coming days.
Harris is currently in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she is huddled with aides and advisers while she prepares for her debate against Trump in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
She’ll resume her official schedule following the debate with a series of appearances to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on New York and Washington before kicking off her swing-state campaign tour in North Carolina on Thursday.
The Tar Heel State is considered a prized battleground by the vice president’s campaign, though no Democrat has carried the state’s electoral votes since Barack Obama’s 2008 victory there. If Harris can defeat Trump there, it all but forecloses his path to the 270 votes needed to take back the White House.
After visiting North Carolina, Harris will return to Pennsylvania — considered the most crucial of the battlegrounds as it forms part of the Democratic “blue wall” of states that would provide her the easiest way to victory.
At the same time, her running-mate will be spending Thursday and Friday in Michigan and Wisconsin, the other two “blue wall” states which he and Harris must carry to have any hope of keeping her in the White House.
Emhoff is scheduled to make stops in Nevada, Arizona, and Florida this week, while Gwen Walz will visit Georgia, New Hampshire, and Maine.
With her debate against Trump just days away, Harris is also rolling out a new advertisement in which she attempts to follow up on her recent foray into economic policy by vowing to make the fight against price gouging a central focus of her administration.
The ad, which bears the title “New Way Forward,” is airing nationwide and in eight battleground states — Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Nebraska — starting Sunday.
Viewers in each state will see a targeted version of the spot, in which Harris says the election between her and Trump is “about two very different visions” for the US: “One focused on the future and the other focused on the past.”
“Lowering the cost of living will be a defining goal of my Presidency,” she says before adding that she will act to lower prescription drug and insulin costs for “everyone,” following up on and expanding the Biden administration’s initiatives to lower such costs for seniors on Medicare.
Harris also promises to “pass the first ever federal ban on price gouging on food” and enact a tax cut for more than 100 million Americans.
“Together, we will build an economy where everyone can compete and have a real chance to succeed,” she says. “Now is the time to chart a new way forward.”
