4 Day Trip in Kerala, India – The Best Kerala Itinerary

By: Author Raymond Cua

Posted on Last updated: July 30, 2020

Planning a trip to Kerala, India? This travel guide features how you can spend a 4 day trip in Kerala.

One of the best ways to explore a new country is by going on a road trip, and that’s exactly what I did for my trip to South India which included a 4 day trip in Kerala.

Did you know? Kerala is often called God’s own country. Based on Hindu mythology, Hindu god Lord Parasurama created Kerala by throwing his axe across the sea to create new land.

I visited India for the very first time, and it was a memorable 12-day tour of South India with Travel XS , starting from the west end of Kochi in Kerala all the way to the east end of Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

If you’re looking to visit India, here’s an ultimate guide to 4 days and 3 nights in Kerala with some of the best things to do, restaurants and accommodations in Kochi, Alleppey and Thekkady.

Planning A Trip To India

Things you should know when going to india, do i need a visa to visit india.

Visa is required for all foreign nationals visiting India. Luckily, you can apply online for an eVisa (USD$81.99), which is very convenient.

Once you submit the application, it only takes a few days to get the result.

When approved, you’ll receive a PDF document for your eVisa to print and show at customs in India.

What currency is used in India?

Indian currency is Indian rupee (INR or Rs) . Most hotels/resorts can exchange currency, but check with them prior to make sure your foreign currency is accepted.

Most accommodations also accept credit cards.

You’ll need cash for any street food, buying from local vendors, or tipping.

Can I drink tap water in India?

Unfortunately, tap water in India is not drinkable.

You’ll need to find bottled water, or at least filtered water, to make sure you won’t have any problems.

Even the locals don’t drink tap water. Hotels would typically provide bottled or filtered during your stay.

I highly recommend bringing a reusable water bottle when you’re going on a road trip, and carrying it around in your bag .

Will I be able to stay connected online while in India?

Surprisingly, Wi-Fi signal is pretty good in India. All the hotels I stayed in had Wi-Fi.

You can use a local SIM Card so it includes calls, texts and data.

Alternatively, I used a pocket wifi for the entire trip and was surprised that I had Wi-Fi signal majority of the time, even in very remote places like my overnight stay on a boat!

What’s the weather like in India?

The weather in India depends on which region you’re visiting (North or South), and the time of the year. From what I learned, South India is generally hotter than North.

The best time to visit is September to February where the temperature is cooler.

I visited in April and temperatures went as high as 40Cs (104Fs) with humidity.

During summertime, be sure to pack properly for hot weather: Bring a change of clothes because you will sweat a lot.

Bring sunscreen and lots of water.

Should I tip in India? How much?

Tip at your discretion. Tip culture is quite ambiguous in India. From what I learned, back in the day, tipping wasn’t expected.

However, due to foreigners from strong tipping culture like North America, the locals have started expecting tips from tourists.

No-Footwear Zones in India

Certain attractions, usually temples, don’t allow footwear inside.

Unless you’re fine leaving your footwear outside or paying for storage/security to locals, here are some tips:

  • Make sure you bring a bag to put your shoes in before going inside.
  • Bring old footwear that you’re ready to lose and is less prone to being stolen.

Do people speak English in India?

Yes, English is the second official language in India after Hindi.

Literacy is a high priority in India so almost all locals can speak English even in remote areas.

However, though people speak English, things around the city may sometimes be in Hindi only like signs, menu, etc.

Is it left- or right-side driving in India?

It is left-side driving in India. This means the driver sits on the right side of the car.

Do I need to get vaccinated before going to India?

The Government of Canada provides a list of vaccinations to consider when travelling to India.

Note though that this is only for consideration – it is not a requirement.

It is really up to you if you think you should get it. I had friends who went to India and took the vaccinations.

They can be costly, adding up to at least $1000 in total.

Personally, I didn’t take the vaccinations.

Why? Coming from the Philippines , I checked what the recommended vaccinations are to travel to the Philippines and they were exactly the same as India’s.

Since I never had any problems in the Philippines without the vaccinations, I just assumed I’d be fine in India.

Why You Should Do A Tour Package in India

When going to an exotic destination like India, especially for the very first time, I highly recommend going on a tour package.

Why? Doing a tour package helps alleviate the stress of trip planning and the nitty-gritty details of being in the destination including accommodations, transportation, food, attractions, language-barriers, etc.

Panoramic View of Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Kumily

I did the 12-day Splendid South India Tour with Travel XS , one of the best tour companies in India, having operations and tour packages worldwide.

I decided to go with an Indian company because they would know India and be the best people to design a tour of India.

They are locals after all.

During and after the trip, I knew I made the right decision.

Maybe if you are just visiting one city, then it’s fine to plan it on your own.

But, doing a road trip like I did is definitely much better and stress-free with a tour package.

I didn’t have to worry about transportation to/from the airport, and all throughout the road trip.

Since India is left-side driving, having not to drive is a big relief!

You’ll be with one driver/guide throughout the tour and he speaks English.

I recommend asking for Mr. Mahesh, who made my tour extra special.

The driver also doubles as a local guide, being knowledgable of the history, culture, and places you’re visiting on the tour.

He made extra stops en route for points of interests.

Parunthumpara Hill View Point in Pambanar, Kerala, India

With so much driving throughout the trip, you will learn a lot from the guide which makes the drive less boring.

Trust me, you and the guide will become friends after the tour.

There was always water handy in the car as well as an umbrella if you want shade from the heat or rain.

The tour is flexible and the guide will accommodate necessary changes in itinerary.

When he drops you off for the night, he will confirm schedule and timing with you for the next day.

For example, we shifted some of the activities to before lunch or after afternoon to avoid the extreme heat in the afternoon.

Sunrise from Xandari Riverscapes Houseboat in Alleppey

Everything is just more convenient and smooth because he would pick you up and drop you off in all the places in the itinerary.

You won’t worry about getting lost or being late.

With the No-Shoe attractions, I would often leave my shoes in the car then walk to the place.

Because you’re with a trusted local tour company, they have deep ties to the communities and their partners are very accommodating and helpful.

Periyar National Park in Kumily, India

There was an incident where I left behind some clothing after checking-out at Brunton Boatyard in Kochi.

The resort actually called Travel XS about it and they shipped the clothing for me to pick-up in Mamallapuram on my last night of the trip.

Lastly, a really important thing is that Travel XS tours are private and highly customizable.

It’s not one of those big group tours where you are with strangers and dependent on their travel habits.

Since it’s a customizable tour, they can design the tour to fit any budget and to help you find the activities you want to experience that suits your travel style.

Common Misconceptions about India

We all have preconceived notions about destinations we haven’t been to.

I find this is even more so for India, where mainstream media has depicted a bad picture in news.

Here I’ll shed some light on the top 3 misconceptions about India that I noticed from news and what people told/asked me.

India is dangerous

Perhaps the most prevalent misconception about India is it’s dangerous, and that’s because of the news we see or read online that mainly talks about terrorism, fights and rapes in India.

As a traveller, I strongly believe danger can happen anywhere you go.

Throughout the India tour, I never felt that safety was a concern, and this includes wandering around the streets at night for street food with just myself and a guide.

It’s the precautions you take that makes the difference.

You’ll always want to research places known for crimes, or make sure to lock your doors, or not leave important belongings behind.

India is a rather conservative country, and that includes clothing.

Though the weather can be hot, I highly recommend as a precaution that women not wear revealing clothes.

Group of Kettuvallams on the backwaters of Alappuzha

Indians are all Hindus and they discriminate other religion

Though Hinduism is the largest religion in India at 80%, other religions exist and are widely accepted like Islam, Judaism and Catholicism.

Unlike what is widely portrayed in media, people with varying religion live harmoniously together.

In Kochi alone, you’ll find Catholic Churches, Jewish Synagogues and Muslim temples.

India smells

After my trip, a lot of people asked me if it smells in India.

Honestly, it wasn’t.

Obviously, depending on the places you visit, it might be, but this is true for any other country.

There is no lingering scent of curry or anything that’s prevalent.

If you go to busy market streets with food/trash on the ground or cows walking amok, then you might smell something.

But I never felt the need to cover my nose or wear a gas mask.

I felt the smell was mostly amplified due to the heat and humidity.

If you go on cooler times, then it probably won’t even be evident.

South India Travel Guide: 4 Day Trip in Kerala

For the 4 day trip in Kerala with Travel XS , we visited Kochi (Cochin), Alleppey and Thekkady before heading to Tamil Nadu.

Did you know? Kerala actually means Land of Coconuts Trees. “Kera” means coconut tree, and “Alam” means land.

Kerala is one of the largest producers of coconut in India so you’ll commonly find the use of coconuts in Kerala cuisine, mostly for curries.

Sunset over Coconut Trees in Alleppey

Aside from coconuts, Kerala’s industries involve exporting seafood (especially fishes and prawns from the river and sea), tourism, and steel and aluminum production.

From here, you’ll learn a detailed itinerary on how to spend 4 Days in Kerala with what to do, where to eat and stay in Kochi, Alleppey and Thekkady!

Everything covered in this guide was part of my Travel XS South India Tour. I also made a YouTube video here .

South India Guide: 4 Day Trip in Kerala including Best Places To Eat, Play, Stay

Kerala Itinerary Day 1: Kochi

Welcome to Cochin, South India! Kochi is a colonial port town of Kerala since 1341 when a flood carved out its harbour.

Kochi’s population is 3 million out of the 33 million in Kerala.

Did you know? The Cochin International Airport is 100% solar-powered since 20 years ago.

From the Cochin International Airport, it takes 1.5 hours by car to Kochi Proper.

The city of Kochi has 3 parts: Ernakulam, Willingdon Island and Fort Kochi.

The district of Ernakulam is the business district of Kochi and considered to be the commercial capital of Kerala.

The Willingdon Island is the largest artificial island in India, made by British harbour engineer Robert Bristow in 1930s.

It is fully owned by the government: half of which is used for the navy and the other for business.

Fort Kochi is a sea-side neighbourhood with a mix of residential and businesses. It is the oldest European settlement in India.

You’ll find Portuguese, Dutch and British influences are evident in the architecture, a reminder of the foreign traders who came over the centuries to buy spices.

Here’s the Kerala guide with 11 of the best things to do, restaurants and accommodations in Kochi for one night!

One Night in Kochi

Do a tour Fort Kochi by wandering the old districts of Mattancherry and Fort Cochin.

Dutch Palace

Also known as Mattancherry Palace, the 16th-century Dutch Palace was built and gifted by the Portuguese to the King of Kochi Veera Kerala Verma in 1555.

During the 15th century AD, the Kochi Royal family shifted their capital from Mahodayapuram to Kochi as a precaution against the attacks of Zamorin of Kozhikode.

The Portuguese who landed in Kochi were permitted by the rulers to build factories in Kochi for their trade activities and in return sought military assistance against Zamorin of Kozhikode.

Did you know? Though it was built by the Portuguese, it is called Dutch Palace because of the major repairs made by the Dutch.

Inside one of the best attractions in Kochi, you’ll find a vast collection of life-size portraits, various artifacts and murals depicting popular Indian stories like the epic Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Note: Photography and videos are not allowed inside.

Paradesi Synagogue

Built in 1568 by the Jewish community of Cochin, the Paradesi Synagogue is the oldest synagogue in India as well as the entire British Commonwealth.

One of Fort Kochi’s best things to do, the Paradesi Jewish Synagogue is the only functioning synagogue in Kochi, located in Jew Town next to the Dutch Palace.

Did you know? In most Indian languages, “Paradesi” means foreigner.

From the entrance, you’ll find a museum on the right where you’ll find historical artifacts and artwork.

Straight from the entrance is the synagogue where you’ll find rare antiques, 19th-century glass chandeliers, hand-painted blue willow patterned tiles (each tile is unique), and the famous carved teak art that contains the four scrolls of the Torah encased in silver and gold.

Note: Photography and videos are not allowed inside. No shoes are allowed inside the Cochin Synagogue.

Dhobi Khana Public Laundry

One of the most unique things to do in Kochi is to check out the Dhobi Khana, a historic community laundry space run by Tamils in the Vannan Community.

Here you’ll learn about natural washing and drying for laundry.

You’ll find washing “cells” with concrete washbasin and a stone slab to clean the fabric by slapping.

You’ll also find a big field of clotheslines made with braided coir fiber to hang the clothes for drying.

Did you know? This Dhobi Khana in Veli Road in Kochi was built in 1976 .

They use heavy charcoal irons for ironing. It’s quite interesting to see them heat the charcoal with fire before ironing.

Quite a big difference from today’s electric irons.

This laundry service is an extensive operation: there are about 40 families in the community who use the Dhobi Khana to wash for houses, hospitals, hotels and government firms.

Armoury Restobar at Brunton Boatyard

Head to lunch at Armoury Restobar inside the Brunton Boatyard in Fort Kochi, where I also stayed the night.

Decked with guns and various weaponry inside, the Armoury restaurant offers both continental and South Indian options.

It was my first time having spicy version of papadum (thin crispy Indian flatbread/cracker) and it’s highly addicting if you love spicy.

I really enjoyed the Kerala Seafood Meal, which has a good sampling of Kerala cuisine served as a Thali.

Going clockwise from the first bowl on the left, you’ve got the following:

  • Mango pickle
  • Coconut chutney
  • Pulissery (yogurt yellow curry)
  • Thoran (vegetable with crushed coconut)
  • Ularthiyathu (clams cooked in thick gravy)
  • Calamari cooked with crushed coconut
  • Konju curry (tiger prawns cooked with raw mango gravy fished with coconut paste)
  • Fish fillet (with salad)
  • Rice and Papad

Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica

One of eight Basilicas in Kerala, the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica is one of the heritage edifices of Kerala, serving as the cathedral church of the Diocese of Cochin.

Did you know? The Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica’s history begins with the arrival of Portuguese missionaries when the first Portuguese Viceroy Dom Francisco de Almeida got permission from the Cochin Raja to build a church.

The Fort Kochi Beach, often known as “Queen of the Arabian Sea”, is a scenic beach frequented by both tourists and locals.

Certain points of interests can be found near the beach like the Chinese Fishing Nets, the Vasco da Gama Square and a lighthouse.

St. Francis Church

One of Fort Kochi’s best attractions is St. Francis Church, the first and oldest European church in India and a centrally protected monument under the control of Archeological Survey of India since 1923.

This major landmark was built in the 16th-century AD, reflecting the struggle of the European powers in India from 15th to 20th centuries.

The east-facing St. Francis Church has a frontage that reflects the typical Portuguese style: arched opening, one of the tiers has flanking windows between the pilasters, a belfry over the gabled front and stepped pinnacles on the sides.

Did you know? The first Portuguese explorer and the first European to reach India, Vasco da Gama’s mortal remains was buried in St. Francis Church. Later on, his son, Pedro da Silva da Gama took his remains back to Portugal in 1538 AD.

Chinese Fishing Nets

One of the most photographed attractions in Kochi is the Chinese Fishing Nets, also called Cheena Vala.

They are stationary fishing nets that are on fixed land installations that go up and down to catch fish and crustaceans.

The Chinese Fishing Nets are aptly named because they were introduced by Chinese explorers in the 14th century since these nets are used throughout coastal southern China and Indochina.

Travelling Foodie Tip: When a local asks if you want to go up-close with the Chinese Fishing Nets, you are expected to pay.

When I was walking around the Chinese Fishing Nets, a local who owned one called me down and asked if I wanted to see the nets up close.

There was no sign for fees or anything so I thought it was just a nice gesture for tourists.

After I finished checking it out, he then asked me for money.

Kathikala Show at Greenix Village

One of the best cultural things to do in Kerala is to watch the Kathakali, the famous dance drama of Kerala.

In the evening at 6PM, head to the Greenix Village to watch the hour-long dance that’s characterized by storytelling of Hindu epic stories, elaborate costumes and colorful make-up.

Make-up is a huge factor in Kathakali as each color denotes a particular quality.

For example, green denotes godliness and red denotes turmoil.

On top of that, the usage of each color represents specific types of characters e.g. male or female, good or bad.

For example, Taadi, or beard, makeup is for both godly and demonic characters. Red Taadi is for evil characters like Sugriva and Baali.

And since Kochi is a colonial port town, dining with views of the Arabian Sea is not to be missed!

Aside from coconuts, both mango and jackfruit are also commonly used in Kerala cuisine due to their abundance.

Definitely try a bit of Kerala curry and mango curry while you’re here and you won’t be disappointed!

This five-star hotel is a former shipyard in British times and restored as a colonial building with wooden high ceilings, terracotta floors, lime plastered walls and old teak wood furniture.

Masala Dosa at Armory Restobar in Cochin

Their local breakfast is either a daily changing Mattancheri breakfast choice or Dosa, crispy pancake-like preparation made of fermented rice and lentil batter that’s a popular Indian street food .

I love dosa but don’t get to eat it much in Toronto so I opted for Masala Dosa, which is stuffed with potato and onion, and cooked in mild spices.

Kerala Itinerary Day 2: Alleppey

After breakfast, you are headed to Alleppey (Alappuzha) which takes 1.5 hours from Kochi.

Alleppey is a very unique city because the population’s whole life takes place on the waters.

Did you know? With its 900-km of canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons, Alleppey is known as the “Venetian Capital” of Kerala. It was called the “Venice of the East” by Lord Curzon, a British statesman and Viceroy of India.

The best thing to do in Alleppey is staying overnight in a houseboat (or kettuvallam) which takes you on a tour through the backwaters, a splendid area full of canals, lakes and coves.

One Night in Allepey

Your entire time in Alleppey will be on the houseboat.

Seriously, this is one of the best things to do in Kerala and India.

Did you know? There are around 3,000 houseboats in Alleppey and its neighbor across, Kumarakom.

This is definitely one of the most unique experiences I’ve done in my travels, and I’m so glad I got to do it! Watch the video below to see what I mean.

Kerala Itinerary Days 3-4: Thekkady

After breakfast, you are headed on a 4.5-hour drive to Thekkady, where you’ll be spending the last two days of your 4 day trip in Kerala.

Did you know? Thekkady is also called Periyar or Kumily. The local name is Kumily, and both Thekkady and Periyar are “tourist names”.

The drive to Thekkady goes high up in the Cardamom Hills mountain range to an elevation of 4,500-ft above sea level.

Cardamom Hills is known for spice and tea plantations because the elevation is better for their growth.

Did you know? The name Cardamom Hills comes from the cardamom spice grown in much of the hills’ cool elevation.

Here are 6 of the best things to do, restaurants and accommodations in Thekkady for two days.

One Night in Thekkady

Since the drive is quite long, you’ll be stopping at two of the best attractions in Pambanar before Thekkady.

Pattumala Matha Church

Built entirely of granite, the Pattumala Matha Church is dedicated to Our Lady of Good Health.

Did you know? This popular Roman Catholic church is nestled on top of a mountain surrounded by tea plantations.

Parunthumpara Hill Viewpoint

The Parunthumpara Viewpoint is located in one of the beautiful mountain top near Peermade.

Did you know? Parunthumpara is also known as Eagle Rock: Parunthu means Eagle and Para means Rock.

The Parunthumpara Hill Viewpoint provides a spectacular 360-degree eagle’s eye view of Peerumedu hills and the surrounding plains.

All Spice Restaurant at Cardamom County

When you arrive at Thekkady, head to Cardamom County Resort for lunch at their All Spice Restaurant.

This all-day restaurant has a menu focused on flavours and spices comprising of Continental, Chinese, South Indian and North Indian dishes.

Obviously, I would recommend going with South Indian dishes like this Kerala Style Pepper Chicken, which was quite different from the usual coconut-based curry.

You’ll want to try their Prawn Moilee which is a different kind of curry dish, where curried prawn is stewed in coconut milk.

My favourite Indian dessert is Gulab Jamun, fried sweet balls which are made of dried milk soaked in rose syrup with cardamom.

Green Land Spice Garden

One of the most educational things to do in Kerala is a Spice Plantation Tour.

Note, all the tours are included in the Travel XS Splendid South India Tour.

Kerala is often called the Land of Spices after all.

And Thekkady is the best place to do it since it is surrounded by tea and spice plantations!

Live Cacao Tree at Green Land Spice Garden in Thekkady

After lunch, you’ll be heading to Green Land Spice Garden for a spice plantation tour.

I learned so much about herbs, spices and flowers from experienced naturalist, Prasad.

Cardamom Plant at Green Land Spice Garden in Thekkady

In the tour, you’ll be exploring the 3-acre family garden that grows all sorts of things like cardamom, pepper, clove, all spice, vanilla, turmeric, banana.

All 100% organic.

Did you know? The ink used for Hena tattoos come from crushing the leaves from a Hena tree.

Live Jackfruit Tree at Green Land Space Garden in Thekkady

Not only will you learn what it looks like and how to grow them, but you’ll also get the chance to smell them fresh and even get to taste some.

It’s a great way to better understand the things we use in our food.

Heliconia is also known as lobster-claw, wild plantain or false bird-of-paradise because of its appearance.

Did you know? Heliconia is the National Flower of Bolivia.

Heliconia Flowers at Green Land Spice Garden in Thekkady

Green, black, red and white peppers all come from the same pepper tree. Its color is based on its maturity harvested and how it is dried.

Green peppers are harvested before maturity and dried in a dark room, whereas black peppers are dried the sun instead of the dark room.

White peppers are dried in the sun without their skin, and red peppers are dried in dark room after maturity (unlike green pepper).

Thunbergia mysorensis at Green Land Spice Garden in Thekkady

Unlike other flowers that gets pollinated by bees, vanilla requires self-pollination by hand.

And every day for 45 days, they are dried for four hours before taken into the dark room.

Did you know? Vanilla is the second most expensive spice in the world, after Saffron.

The bird’s eye chili, or piri piri chili, is 60 percent spicier than big chilis we normally see. It is the spiciest chili in India.

Piri Piri Chili on tree at Green Land Spice Garden

It was my first time seeing rose apple. They are much smaller than the regular apples we’re used to.

You can only harvest it once a year. The redder it is, the sweeter.

And it is also used to make wine in India.

Cardamom County

Where to stay in Thekkady? One of the best luxury resorts is Cardamom County situated on a hill overlooking the Periyar Hills.

You can have dinner at the All Spice Restaurant.

I stayed at the 33 square-meter Periyar Cottage Bedroom with a private verandah facing the bamboo forest.

The room is fully furnished and has air conditioning.

Travelling Foodie Tip: Don’t leave your bedroom door open as monkeys may tend to go in and grab things. They have warning signs for that.

Visit the Ayur Spa where you’ll find this Spice Chest with over 65 pockets of different herbs and spices for different uses in medicine, ayurvedic massage therapy and cooking.

One Day in Thekkady

The 4 day trip in Kerala has finally come to an end.

On your last day, you’ll be doing the most popular attraction in Thekkady and also a cooking demonstration on some of the most popular food in Kerala.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Cardamom Hills is home to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a reserve on the Kerala/Tamil Nadu border.

It’s also referred to as Periyar National Park or Periyar Tiger Reserve.

Periyar actually means big river.

And the aptly named Periyar River is the longest river in Kerala at 244-km!

Boats on lake at Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady, India

In the morning, you’ll be going on an early boat cruise on Periyar Lake at the heart of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Travelling Foodie Tip: At the waiting area, be sure to secure your belongings. Wild monkeys are quick to grab things it sees in plain sight. When you hear the roof rumbling, monkeys are coming.

Tree Trunk Reflections on Periyar Lake in Thekkady

You’ll enjoy the tranquility of the lake with lush greenery and wildlife abound.

Cows on Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park in Kumily, Kerala

The tour guides are knowledgeable and quite keen on spotting wildlife.

They can even help you take photos with your phone or camera.

Unless animals are on the water near you, most of the animals will be quite far.

Bring binoculars or a zoom lens if you want to see them up close.

Note: You need to pay extra to bring an actual camera or a backpack.

Tamarind Restaurant at Spice Village Resort

After the cruise, you’ll be heading over to Spice Village Resort for cooking demonstration and lunch at Tamarind Restaurant.

A great benefit of the Travel XS Tour is you get VIP arrangements.

The scheduled cooking demonstration at Spice Village usually happens at night (6:45pm), but, with the tour, you get the private cooking demo along with your lunch.

Restaurant View at Spice Village CGH Earth Resort in Thekkady

At the cooking demo, you’ll learn the intricacies of the Indian spices and the secrets of traditional Kerala cuisine.

It’s eye-opening to see how much fresh herbs and spices are used here. A typical masala is made of at least 10 ingredients.

In North America, most Indian curry dishes are made using curry powder.

You might also like the only Michelin star Indian restaurant in Singapore !

I learned how to make Coriander Chicken Curry (Malliyila Chicken Curry) and Avial (Kerala mixed vegetable curry). You’ll get the recipes for these after too.

Watch the full video of the cooking demonstration here .

Lunch is buffet at Tamarind Restaurant along with the dishes made on the cooking demo.

In India, locals eat bread more than rice. They typically dip the bread in some sauce.

One of the most common bread is chapati, an unleavened flatbread made of wheat flour, salt and water.

Did you know? chapat means “slap” or “flat” in Hindi.

Luckily, the Tamarind Restaurant at Spice Village has live open cooking of roti and chapati so you can see how they’re made and can taste it fresh.

Watch how the chapati balloons here .

Following lunch, I recommend going on a property tour of Spice Village Resort.

Soil Compost at Spice Village Luxury Resort in Thekkady

Built since 1991, Spice Village focuses on sustainability in everything they do from serving treated drinking water in bottles instead of plastic to creating paper from bio-waste (old newspaper and magazines) and utilizing solar energy for 75% of their power.

They are also converting waste as nutrient-rich compost for their soil.

Elephant Court

For dinner, head over to the restaurant at Elephant Court Resort for a multi-cuisine menu with extensive flavours.

Be sure to get dosa! They have a dosa stove in the dining room so you can see how it’s made fresh. Watch the video here .

They also have dinner buffet with an array of popular South Indian dishes like Aloo and Curd Rice.

Potato Fry in Buffet at Elephant Court Thekkady

Interestingly, the only non-Indian dish I had in Kerala was pretty good!

This beef teriyaki, though targeted for non-Asians, is quite delicious!

They have different chutneys to accompany the dosa, or opt for a curry dish instead like the shrimp coconut curry which came wrapped in pandan leaves.

Dosa with Shrimp Coconut Curry at The Elephant Court Thekkady in Kerala, India

End the meal on a sweet note with the Ice Cream Brownie Sandwich, which is uncommon to find since it’s typically with cookies instead of brownies.

It’s my first time seeing it served on a sizzling plate.

And they use Indian cashews instead for the brownies which were deliciously sweet.

The Revolving Compass

To share our love for travel….countless soul enriching experiences

4 days trip in kerala

4 days Munnar trip itinerary

On our recent trip to Kerala we were in Munnar for 3 days. And that is when we realised that a perfect Munnar tour package should consist of a Munnar itinerary for 4 days. Because with a minimum of 4 days in Munnar, you can cover most of the famous places to see in Munnar. And the best things to do in Munnar as well.

4 days trip in kerala

But, having said that, there are a lot more offbeat things to do in Munnar if you are a lover of nature like us. And you can always extend your 4 days Munnar trip itinerary by a few days. Or, drop some of the famous tourist places and include some of these offbeat places in your list, that I will include towards the end of the post. So, without further delay, let me start with the 4 days Munnar trip itinerary.

Table of Contents

Day 1 of the 4 days Munnar trip itinerary – Cochin to Munnar Road Trip

The drive from Cochin to Munnar is one of the most scenic road trips in India . To be able to do justice to it, start early from Cochin. On the way from Cochin to Munnar, there are several sightseeing places where you can stop. All of these are full of fun and excitement. So, make time to stop at these places while on your way from Cochin to Munnar. Some of these being –

Cheeyappara Waterfalls

Cochin to Munnar

Although there are multiple waterfalls on the way from Cochin to Munnar. But the Cheeyappara Waterfalls are right besides the highway. Even if you decide not to stop here, you can just slow down and admire it while crossing the site. After visiting the Athirapally waterfalls on our recent trip to Kerala and also so many other massive waterfalls of India, particularly the majestic waterfalls of Meghalaya , I will not say that Cheeyappara Waterfalls are exceptionally huge. Still it is impressive enough as it cascades down seven different natural steps of the hills. And it is also attributed to be more than 1000 feet tall. So, its really a nice attraction right besides the highway, particularly post monsoons when it is at the peak of it’s volume.

If you want, you can as well stop your vehicle here. There are lots of shops selling toys and some snacks on both sides of the road near the Cheeyappara Waterfalls. So, you can also relax and grab a quick snack or do a little shopping while here.

There are many other waterfalls on the way from Cochin to Munnar including Valara Waterfalls . But they are not as massive. And may require a little detour or trekking from the highway to reach them.

Spice Gardens of Munnar

Spice garden Kerala

Kerala is famous for it’s spices. Even in the ancient times, Kerala was one of the major exporters of all kind of spices including turmeric, cloves, cardamom etc. And so is it even today. On the way from Cochin to Munnar, as you cross halfway through the route, you will encounter many spice gardens of Kerala . These spice gardens offer guided tours through the garden. And also have a shop where you can make purchase of fresh spices. We had visited a spice garden on the way from Cochin to Munnar on our Kerala trip years back. And it was definitely a very exciting tour, wherein I learnt a lot about the benefits that different spices provide to our body, their medicinal values and a lot more. So, when on your way from Cochin to Munnar, do stop at the Spice Gardens for a quick tour.

The tea estates of Munnar

Munnar, Kerala

As breathtaking as any other attraction are the lush green tea estates of Munnar. The symmetrically planted tea plants covering the slope of the hills, with mystic clouds hanging above are a scene to behold. Just 7-8km before reaching the town of Munnar, you will witness some very beautiful tea estates along the slope of the hills. There is also parking space here. I am not sure if there is an official name of this site. But definitely you will recognise it as you see rows of vehicles parked alongside the highway. And people trying their best to capture this beauty in their cameras. You can even venture amidst the tea plants to let the fresh aroma of green tea leaves fill your senses. Just be careful not to damage the plants.

4 days trip in kerala

Other random sightseeing spots on way from Cochin to Munnar

Apart from the designated spots, you will cross through several spots as you drive in the winding hills from Cochin to Munnar where you cannot help but stop on a bend or a stretch to take in that breathtaking scene with which nature has bestowed Munnar. Aim to reach your destination by evening, before dark as the roads are winding, narrow and full of traffic including buses that ply between Cochin and Munnar.

Day 2 of the 4 days Munnar trip itinerary – Eravikulam National Park and around

Although the main town of Munnar is very small, the beautiful sightseeing places around Munnar are spread in all directions. So, you should define your Munnar trip itinerary in such a way that you cover the sights in one direction each day. That way, we recommend visiting the Eravikulam National Park and other sights in this direction on the second day of your 4 days Munnar trip itinerary. The places in this itinerary include :

Tea Museum of Munnar

The process of how tea leaves reach from the plant to our tea pot is really fascinating. And that is what you get to witness on this Tea Museum in Munnar.  And not just that, the Tea Museum also documents the journey of how the cultivation of tea started in the area of Munnar, how it evolved. How the early machinery of tea factories looked like. And how advancement has happened in this area over the years. This tea museum in Munnar was established in 2005 by Tata Tea Estate. The Tea Museum is also equipped with a tea tasting room where you get to taste the different flavours of tea including black tea, long leaf tea and green tea to name just a few. The timings of the museum are from 9:00am to 6:00pm on all days except Mondays and some holidays like Good Friday.

Eravikulam National Park

Munnar, Kerala

The next spot on the second day of your 4 days Munnar trip itinerary is Eravikulam National Park. A beautiful National Park where you park your vehicle in the base. And then take a ticket to get a ride up in the mountains. From there, you can trek the last 2km stretch. It was a beautiful walk when we explored the higher reaches of Eravikulam National Park years back. And the memory is still fresh as yesterday in my mind. You mostly get to witness the wild goats on this trek. And rarely elephants. But the walk up and down the slope through the breathtaking natural beauty surrounding you itself makes it worth it to explore this place. So, I highly recommend not missing Eravikulam National Park on your trip to Munnar.

8th Mile Gap Viewpoint

4 days trip in kerala

Another one of the most beautiful view points that Munnar is full of. 8th Mile view point is located 5km ahead of the Eravikulam National Park. It offers breathtaking views, fresh air, and a walk amidst the clouds to those who explore the area.

Lakkam Waterfalls

4 days trip in kerala

Lakkam Waterfalls is located further ahead of the 8th Mile Gap Viewpoint. It is one of the many beautiful waterfalls that you will get to witness while exploring Munnar. One can go right up to the waterfalls. Although not as massive as many other waterfalls of Munnar, but the location of Lakkam Waterfalls makes it special. On the way to Marayoor from Munnar, this waterfall is located hidden inside very dense forest area, with thick layers of flora along the winding path that leads to the waterfalls.

Marayoor Sandalwood Forest

The Marayoor Sandalwood Forest are the only location in Kerala where you can find natural sandalwood trees. It is also naturally very beautiful. And it is on the way from Lakkam Waterfalls to Muniyara. Another must visit destination on the second day of your 4 days Kerala trip itinerary.

Also known as “Dolmen”, Muniyara is a megalithic monument in the Marayoor district in Kerala. It is also the last site on your second day of 4 days Munnar trip itinerary. The caves date back to 2nd or 3rd BC. There were precious gems and other such stones discovered from these caves. The historians believe that Buddhist Monks achieved nirvana while praying and meditating for years in these places. Nevertheless, these are live symbols of how old and how rich the culture of India is, and how much back in the history the civilisation goes. A visit to Muniyara is definitely a must.

Day 3 of the 4 days Munnar trip itinerary – A day trip to Idukki Dam and around

4 days trip in kerala

Idukki Dam is one of the most beautiful offbeat and serene places around Munnar. If you decide to explore this area, some of the places you can visit on the third day of your 4 days Munnar trip itinerary include the breathtaking Idduki dam, Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, Thommankuthu Waterfalls – another massive cascading seven steps waterfalls, and several hill top view points like Hill View Park, Ramakkalmedu and Vandanmedu. Since the Idduki district is really vast and stretches all the way till Vagamon in the south west, it will be a long day if you decide to cover all of these points on a day trip from Munnar. So, if you are traveling with kids or elderly, I suggest, limit your trip to Idukki wildlife sanctuary and Idukki Dam. Otherwise, as an alternative, you can do this on trip on the third day in Munnar. And rather halt for the night in one of the other hill stations in Idukki like Vagamon.

Read : A perfect 5 days Kerala tour package

Day 4 of the 4 days Munnar trip itinerary – Mattupetty Dam and around

Mattupetty Dam in Munnar provides a breathtaking view of the layers of Nilgiri Mountains from across the river. Another must visit spot when in Munnar. However, there are several other places you can visit before and after the dam itself on this day of your trip. These include :

Flower Garden

4 days trip in kerala

Your first stop on the fourth and final day of the four days Munnar trip itinerary will be the flower Garden. More than a garden, it is actually a nursery. But it is so beautiful. With all the different varieties of flowers blooming in a glass house, it is definitely worth some instagram – favourite pictures. So, you can quickly stop here for a visit. And if you think you can, then do buy some exotic flowers and plants from here.

Photo Point

The next stop on today’s itinerary is a photo point wherein you get to stop inside a tea garden and take a snap. A typical memory that you will relate to your Munnar trip for the rest of your life!

Elephant Ride point

4 days trip in kerala

After Photo Point comes the elephant ride point. As the name suggests, you can enjoy a ride on an elephant here. You can also help bath or feed an elephant here.

Mattupetty Tea Factory

The next stop is Mattupetty Tea Factory. While the Tea Museum takes you on a documented journey of evaluation of tea gardens in Munnar. On the other hand, the Mattupetty Tea Factory will demonstrate how the tea leaves are plucked, processed, packaged and then transported to shops from where they reach our home and finally our tea pots. This is a very informative tour, particularly for the young kids in your group. So, highly recommend taking it.

Mattupetty Dam

Munnar Kerala

Your next stop is Mattupetty Dam. The scene that I had witnessed standing on the Mattupetty Dam years back was one of the most beautiful scenes that I have ever seen in my life. With a vast picture perfect river, and then layers and layers of mountains right behind it in the shades of blue and green. As if God has himself painted it on a canvas and then breathed life into it! A must visit place it is to comprehend why Kerala is called “God’s own country”.

Boating Center

After the Mattupetty Dam comes the boating center where you can enjoy a boating on the river. Boating is operational here from 9:00am to 5:00pm, depending on the weather conditions. And imagine being in the middle of the heavenly scene that you just witnessed from the Mattupetty dam – thats what you get when boating here. So, once again, I highly recommend enjoying a boat ride here.

4 days trip in kerala

A place characterised by a panoramic view of a breathtaking lake, and the green farmlands and meadows stretching all around it – thats how I would describe Echo Point. With horses riding on the bank of the lake, small shops selling hand crafted wooden artwork and craft pieces, and some local snacks, this place is simply heaven. Take a stroll, or enjoy a horse ride, or, do a shopping. Enjoy the place however you want. The natural beauty of the area is sure to bewitch you.

Kundala Dam and Boating

A little further from Echo Point is Kundala Dam. Here you can enjoy the natural scenery around. And also enjoy a pedal boat ride on the lake.

Top Station Munnar

4 days trip in kerala

As the name suggests, this last spot on your 4 days Munnar trip itinerary today is located at the top of a hill. Where one can trek to, and then observe breathtaking views of the surroundings. Due to the altitude, from here, you can get views of the beautiful valleys and mountains of Munnar like from nowhere else. Also, if time permits, from here, you can even visit Palani Hills Wildlife Sanctuary and Kurinjimala Sanctuary (where the rare Neelakurinji Flowers bloom).

After completing these 4 days in Munnar, you can head back. Most probably you will proceed to Cochin from Munnar. And then either proceed to your next destination or back home from here. On our own trip to Kerala, we headed from Munnar to Alleppey via Cochin. And reached Alleppey around 3 in the evening. Although we had a leisurely breakfast and started by around 10am from Munnar.

What if I want to make a Munnar trip plan of 3 days

If you have only 3 days time, I will suggest visiting these places in Munnar and skipping the rest. Just because they are more famous and you should not return back home with a feeling that you didn’t cover some of the most popular spots in Munnar worth visiting. Otherwise, even the other places are equally beautiful. Visit these places on your 3 days trip to Munnar –

  • Eravikulam National Park and around
  • Matuputty Dam and around

What if I want to make a Munnar trip plan for 2 days

To be very honest with you, 2 days is way less a time to visit Munnar. One day will almost be gone in reaching Munnar from Cochin until you are taking an overnight bus from Cochin to Munnar. And with just one full day at hand, you will have a really tough time selecting which of the above mentioned 3 directions around Munnar should you go. If you must, I will prefer the Eravikulam National Park and around because I liked this route and the sights on this route the best. However, if you are travelling overnight and have two full days to explore Munnar, then just as I mentioned above, choose to visit these two directions around Munnar :

If you have time at hand, I highly recommend you checkout this one day trip in Munnar , covering nature, culture and local cuisines!!

What are some of the offbeat places to visit in Munnar

Some other places in Munnar, which are offbeat, not so famous, not so crowded include :

  • Chinnakanal Waterfalls

The Chinnakanal Waterfalls is a beautiful cascading waterfalls located almost 15-16 km before the Munnar town. It was located very near to where we stayed this time – Abad Copper Castle . The waterfalls originated from high up in the Devikulam Hills. And it is actually possible to trek down to the bottom of the waterfalls. Thus, Chinnakanal Waterfalls forms for a good picnic spot where one can enjoy a few hours. And it is often devoid of the crowd of usual tourists that head to other more famous locations in Munnar.

A small , green and beautiful botanical garden almost 6 km before the main town of Munnar, Hydel Park is an idle spot if you wish to skip the crowd at the main botanical garden of Munnar. Although not very big, it can be a nice spot for kids and family to relax for a while.

  • Pothamedu View Point

4 days trip in kerala

A viewpoint almost 5km before the town of Munnar, right besides the resort “ Abad Copper Castle ” , Pothamedu Viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the valley. There are a couple of very small tea and snack shops here. And some offbeat trekking trails nearby that you can take to randomly explore the area. Since, this viewpoint was right besides our hotel, we visited here twice during our stay – once in the evening and the next time in the morning. Both the times, the views from here were beautiful and it was not at all crowded.

If you have more time at hand, we highly recommend exploring these places.

Which of the above are places to visit in Munnar for couples

If as a newly wed or a couple you are looking for places which are not so crowded, which are offbeat or less explored then head to these locations in Munnar :

  • Boating in the river

Although I must say, when we visited Munnar years back, we enjoyed even some of the crowded spots as a couple. Because no matter what the place, we were able to find our own slice of heaven and enjoy it. Be it taking a picture in a tea estate, or a boat ride on one of the lakes, or the trek up in the mountains in Eravikulam National Park. Also, to be honest, these spots were not so crowded then. So, if you don’t mind, you can once visit all the spots that you want or that time permits you.

What are some offbeat things to do in Munnar

Stay in a tree house in munnar.

4 days trip in kerala

Munnar is one of the few places in India that has several “tree house” accommodations. Staying in a tree house up above the land is an adventure in itself. And something very high on my kids bucket list. Although we couldn’t do it this time, I highly recommend experiencing a tree house stay when in Munnar.

Try camping in Munnar

4 days trip in kerala

Did you know that Munnar has several campsites. The camps are adventurous, cost effective and even family friendly. So, if camping has been on your bucket list, Munnar is the right place to try it out.

Go for a random trek in Munnar

4 days trip in kerala

One morning while walking near our resort, we took a detour from the main road to a trail leading to the valley, crossing through breathtaking tea estates. There were no vehicles on this route. And hardly any other traveler besides us. This is where we discovered utter peace, except for the beautiful chirping of the birds and the occasional rustling of the leaves. It was as if my senses were amplified and I could pick on the beautiful sounds of nature while on this trail. In front of our eyes stretched beautiful tea estates and the valley beyond. I am sure each and every corner of Munnar is filled with such beauty. And will highly recommend you to explore your own random trekking trail when in Munnar than going the usual route.

Enjoy an early morning walk in Munnar

4 days trip in kerala

On our recent trip to Munnar, wherein we stayed at Abad Copper Castle , a little outside the main town of Munnar, we enjoyed several early morning walks around the area. The mornings in Munnar are particularly refreshing. With mist filled sky, cloud hovering low, you can feel the freshness as you breath into the morning air. The early morning beauty that we got to see was a sight to behold. So, if you are a morning person, I highly recommend taking an early morning walk in Munnar, particularly out of the main town area.

Trek to a river bed for a picnic

4 days trip in kerala

There are several rivers flowing around Munnar. Like there was one right besides our hotel – Abad Copper Castle . And we enjoyed beautiful views of this river right from the restaurant of our hotel. You can actually ask your accommodation if it is safe to trek down to the river bed. They might even guide you to the spot. You can get a picnic basket packed and enjoy a serene picnic around the river bed. Away from the hustle and bustle of the main sightseeing places in Munnar.

Make a time-lapse video

Every trip is about creating wonderful memories, isn’t it ? Years back when we had visited Munnar, we had visited almost all the places in Munnar which are famous and visited by everyone who lands in Munnar. So, this time around, we decided to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty of Munnar without rushing ourselves. One of our favourite things to do was to sit by the window in the restaurant of our hotel. And make time-lapse videos of the passing by clouds as we enjoyed a hot supper, taking in the views of the river passing by and the beautiful hills behind!! Try one on your next trip to Munnar.

Ask your accommodation to arrange for a nearby expedition like a waterfall visit

4 days trip in kerala

Since there was a lot of rush on our recent trip to Munnar at all the tourist places. Our hotel manager informed us of a lesser known offbeat waterfall nearby which we could enjoy without any crowd. I am sure Munnar is full of such beautiful locations. So, instead of rushing for the most famous, most crowded locations and spending lots of your time either standing in queues for entry or in the traffic, I highly recommend going on your own trail to discover a naturally beautiful spot around where you are staying. And heading there instead.

What is the best time to visit Munnar

Munnar has a pleasant climate all through the year. So, you can visit this hill station anytime. There might be heavy rainfall in the monsoon months though. And this year, for the first time, there was flooding in the lower areas. So, the route to Munnar was disturbed during the monsoon season of July to September. October to March is the best time to visit Munnar in my opinion. Particularly the month of October because right after monsoon the hills are so green and serene. But, avoid holiday season. This time around, we visited during the Dussehra vacations. And as a result there was so much rush at all the sites. That we had to simply skip many of them.

How to reach Munnar

Cochin is the nearest airport to Munnar. So, most of the tourists fly into Cochin International Airport and then take a cab to Munnar. Although the route from Coimbatore to Munnar is also very scenic. We self drove from Cochin to Munnar. As this is also one of the best routes to reach Munnar. It takes around 4 hours to drive from Cochin to Munnar. The roads are very winding. And one of the most challenging ghat roads that we have drove in South India when compared to other hill stations and ghat roads of South India that we have visited like Bangalore to Ooty tour , Bangalore to Kodaikanal , Bangalore to Yercaud to name a few.

Where to stay in Munnar

Munnar has all kind of accommodations. Being a typical tourist destination, Munnar caters to all types of tourists. While couples can have a luxurious honeymoon experience at resorts like The Vibe Munnar. There are ample resorts and hotels that cater to groups and families with young kids like . And then there are backpacker friendly hostels and dormitories as well as homestay and campsites in Munnar. You can browse the complete list of accommodations in Munnar here from our partner website booking.com

We will highly recommend staying out of the main town of Munnar. Which has grown many folds since our first visit to Munnar years back on our 5 days trip to Kerala. It is a lot more green and serene as you step right outside the main town borders. We ourselves stayed at the Abad Copper Castle Hotel on our recent trip to Munnar. It was a small but beautiful property. With awesome views of the mountains and valleys from it’s rooms as well as a beautiful river flowing right besides the property.

General tips on visiting Munnar

  • Carry some light wooden cloths no matter what the season, since Munnar gets cold in the evening all the time. In winters you will need to carry proper jackets and sweaters.
  • Munnar is a small town, and if you are staying in a hotel on the outskirts, then keep all basic medicines and other requirements stuffed as you might not get anything around.
  • You can get cabs for day trips if you are not driving on your own, but do book in advance in peak seasons.
  • Munnar tends to get crowded in holiday seasons and during school holidays. So, avoid these seasons if possible. We met with a lot of crowd when we visited. And had to drop visiting some of the places due to crowd.

Lalit's 4 days trip to Kerala

This was my second trip to Kerala & to same destinations. The current trip fell short of in terms of stay comfort in hotel as well as houseboat. Food spread in the hotel & houseboat could have been better. Driver's driving performance has scope of improvement. Ayurvedic massage, a must in the trip, was not up to the mark. Though this is not a part of the package, as tourists, we depend on the driver's assistance in choosing a particular provider. In fact, it is the driver who recommends. His recommendations of the restaurant, boating trip, dance fusion & martial art show was great. But he fell short in case of recommending a good ayurvedic massage, Spices centre and handloom products. I suggest agent share a list of good providers with rates & ranking with the customers upfront as an option to improve the experience.

Sindhupabba027gmailcom's 4 days trip to Kerala

The food in the hotel is not at all good. It was mentioned as a buffet for veg and non veg for breakfast. But we found the least options for breakfast. The rooms in the house boat is literally too small and suffocation. Air condition is also not properly working. You people should have informed before hand regarding the 3-4 star housing boats. We would have gone for 5 star one . Apart from this everything else gone well. The hospitality of the driver is really impressive. He helped us in getting the best food through out our trip according to our choice and taste. The trip has gone very well and we are back with refreshing mind and many memories.

Arroju's 4 days trip to Kerala

My reviews are not being posted when i gave them 1 star rating, so trying to post the review with higer start rating. In detail Worst experience of our Kerala trip: Our Travel Agency was On Time Holiday. Travel Agent: Abhimanyu Kumar(+91 8448558992) Transport Agency provived by Abhimanyu(Life Way Holidays Cochin Ph: +91 9605433330) CAB Driver: Shabin (+91 9656276604) Our Travel Agent Abhimanyu was so polite, organised our trip soo good. This was one side of the coin till we confirm the booking and make the payment We reached Kochi airport drived picked up. Later recieved call from Abhimanyu to make the remaining payment. *Our First mistake: Making the full payment* Now the second side of our agent started showing up. We reached House boat it was not so good called our agent to convey but no response we thought he was busy. called him in the evening from other number, he answered then we conveyed him that as per our itenary there was candle light dinner and honeymoon inclusion, But didnt find any such arrangements, he said that he will speak to the concerned person and get it arranged. Waited till Dinner no such arrangements were done and our first day was disappointing with bad house boat, no inclusions as conveyed in itenary. Second day we started our trip asked for one site visit which was not in our itenary driver asked for extra amount, tried to reach our Gentleman Abhimanyu, asusual no response. after full day journey reached to our hotel(Pine Tree) which was good. one best thing in our trip. started our Journed on third day stopped at first sight seeing and Car didnt start, we had to push and get the car started(First stage of Best Moment). Later visited 2-3 sight seeing points, driver says this is the last point we have to return now(Time 2:00 PM) but tried to tell him that we have more places to visit as per the itenary, refused to come, then we said he will pay extra amount for the Visit. (Note: No mobile network to reach either travel agent or Travel Triangle representive.) went forward for one sight seeing due to heavy rain we have to start our return journey. The car started giving trouble we have to push and start the vehicle multiple times. Around 6pm our car stopped on highway we had signal in one of our mobile reached agent Abhimanyu and travel agency. they said they will arrange new CAB but had to take Auto and reached back hotel after waiting 2 hrs on road. Driver got his car repaired and reached hotel next day morning at 10am. Our fourth day journed started from Munnar to Kochi. we had Kochi sight seeing on this day. we said driver lets go without wasting time we have sight seeing in Kochi. But the driver says no sight seeing instructions for him. Tried to reach our agent Abhimanyu asusual no response, we called from our last number,he answered and said yes as per itenary the driver should take us to kochi sight seeing, he will talk to travel agency. Again no response from our Hero Abhimanyu, all our numbers he has noted down and not answered from any of our numbers. we called him more than 100 times but no response. we tried to reach travel triangle representive(Subhabrato Bandopadhyay Ph: +91 8800294894) but no response then tried to reach Travel triangle customer service (We have holidays on Sunday please call us back on Monday) The driver dropped us without any sight seeing and left us on road. we had to spend so much money to experience the worst. Whose mistake is this? 1. Our mistake paying full amount of our trip in advance as per Travel Triangle Guidelines 2. Abhimanyu(On Time Holidays) who planned the worst trip, with worst boat house and worst cab 3. Travel Triangle who were not available when we needed the most.

Sugandha's 4 days trip to Kerala

I am happy with the complete arrangement and the package that was booked. The cab driver was also good. All the coordination was done by him which was very convenient. This shall be followed by all agencies as the vacation becomes quite comfortable. The only problem we faced was with the 'Princes de Munnar hotel. The stay was highly inconvenient and the hotel did not follow hygiene guidelines in food and beverage service. Food was served cold and kept as if it was kept for dogs. The staff was suffering from cough and cold and did not wear masks. They used their infected hands to touch food. Because of this, I caught the infection. The room had zero amenities, no hot kettle, no toiletries and no proper lighting. They served tea & coffee for breakfast which tasted the same and were full of sugar. Even the smallest of things like separate tea were not available in the hotel. Upon asking, the staff was rude and refused straight on the face. Other guests staying in the hotel had the same complaints. Also, they hardly had any staff. There were only 2 staff members doing everything. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and would suggest you remove it from your list as well. Hope some action will be taken against this.

04 NIGHTS / 05 DAYS

God’s Own Country. There can and will never be a better phrase to describe the magical fantasyland that’s Kerala. You could be living or working from the farthest corners of the country or even the world, you couldn’t have possibly not heard about Kerala’s picturesque destinations and mesmerizing sights.

Hence, Kerala is a great destination for families looking for cheap tour packages in India. From beaches to hills to backwaters, our 4-night, 5-day package is a great way for new travelers to get started on their Kerala itinerary.

Tucked away in the southwestern corner of India, Kerala often finds itself listed at the very top of the lists of people looking for cheap tour packages to drown the monotony of workday lifestyles.

Terrain? You name it and Kerala offers it in spades. The region is virtually a 550+ km stretch of god’s playground; a gigantic canvas for nature to show off its diverse flora, fauna, landscapes, and colors; a traveler’s paradise.

Day 01: Cochin to Munnar - 140 Kms/4 Hours Drive

Munnar Hills

Arrive at Kochi, meet our representative, and finish your pleasantries and greetings. Kickstart your Munnar trip plan while you sit back in our tour vehicle and enjoy the scenic beauty, the marvelous waterfalls, high mountains with the low-flying clouds passing by. Witness tea gardens spread like a green carpet over hundreds of kilometers.

Treat your eyes to the lush green hills, and immerse yourself in an experience that is hard to put into mere words. Take in the fresh air from the region that is miles away from pollution.

Stay overnight in a  deluxe room  at the  Rivulet Resort , Munnar.

Day 02: Munnar

Munnar

Begin your sightseeing Munnar tour after a refreshing sleep.

Visit Echo point located 15 kms from Munnar at a height of 600 meters and hear your voice magically return in the form of an echo.

Visit the Mattupetty dam that powers a majority of Kerala. Tired legs? Enjoy an optional boating experience in the nearby lake.

Stay overnight at  Rivulet Resort , Munnar in your  Deluxe Room.

Day 03: Thekkady

Thekkady Elephants

Restart your Kerala tour plan with a hearty breakfast.

Continue to Thekkady, South India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary that is home to bison, wild elephants, boars, langurs, tigers, and more.

On arrival check in at the hotel.

Head out for an optional boat cruise at noon in the lake to watch wild animals up close.

Stay overnight at the  Coffee Routes - Coffee Bungalow.

Day 04: Alleppey

Alleppey also known as the Venice of the East is the perfect way to round off your 4 days trip to Kerala.

Unlike other beachfront destinations in the world, you won’t find rave parties here, no noisy water scooters or sellers forcing you to buy trinkets. For those seeking to undo the stresses of city life and experience complete peace and calm, Alleppey is the answer.

Unwind and finish your backwater recreations and stay overnight at  Kondai Lip Backwater Resort in a well-appointed A/C Deluxe Cottage.

Day 05: Departure

Finish breakfast and transfer to Kochi Airport for your onward journey home.
