Scimago impact factor: 0.846 Tourism and Hospitality Research (THR) is firmly established as an influential and authoritative, peer-reviewed journal for tourism and hospitality researchers and professionals. THR covers applied research in the context of Tourism and Hospitality in areas such as policy, planning, performance, development, management, strategy, operations, marketing and consumer behaviour. We accept papers in other areas within the context of tourism and hospitality provided the paper delivers research with significant implications for tourism and hospitality. Please note that for hospitality papers we expect a subsection in the conclusions of your paper clearly labelled as Industry Implications.

THR promotes qualitative methodologies and will not accept quantitative studies unless they are innovative in their approach and fully embedded in theory development and explicitly offer new knowledge. If your paper utilises quantitative methodological approaches then we expect a clear narrative in your cover letter as to how your quantitative paper meets our scope.

Each issue of Tourism and Hospitality Research publishes detailed, authoritative applied research papers from researchers and practitioners worldwide. We also accept industry Case Studies; Research Notes; Conference Reports; Practitioner Briefings; and Book Reviews that are addressing key issues, challenges and innovative aspects of tourism and hospitality.

Tourism and Hospitality Research (THR) publishes dynamic and original research on a wide range of issues in the context of tourism and hospitality. The scope of the journal is international, and, as a platform for stimulating debate, we welcome theoretical, multidisciplinary and applied submissions that offer meaningful and ambitious contributions to current discourse. THR draws upon the expertise of scholars and practitioners interested in many aspects of tourism and hospitality, including consumer behaviour, marketing, strategy, policy and planning, environmental studies, psychology and many more. The journal’s content includes empirical research, discussions of current issues and case studies. We welcome research notes and full manuscripts as well as book reviews and professional perspectives of tourism and hospitality.

Of particular interest to THR are articles adopting innovative research approaches, manuscripts that examine novel and/or under-researched areas of tourism and hospitality and review papers that support the development of future research agendas.

All papers are subject to double-blind peer review by the journal’s international community of reviewers.

As the spirit of reform pulsated throughout the Soviet Union, an idealistic college student from the Ukrainian SSR named Oleg Cherviakov took a fateful trip down the Ileks River into Vodlozero Lake in Arkhangelsk Oblast and Karelia. Entranced by the area’s beauty and intrigued by traditional Orthodox Christian culture, Cherviakov envisioned a national park that he believed not only would protect the region’s forests but would bring about a regional religious revival. After serving as Vodlozero National Park’s director for nearly fifteen years, Cherviakov realized that few wanted to go back to the old ways. Moreover, he concluded that tourism’s economic benefits would never materialize when few tourists wanted to come to this region and with the state little interested in developing the park’s infrastructure. Vodlozero National Park’s history marks perhaps the apotheosis of utopian proposals for parks conceived during a time of national transformation and the nadir of disillusionment among park founders.

How Las Vegas is getting an art museum of its own

The Las Vegas City Council approved the sale of downtown land to build the museum, which has some well-known backers and an award-winning architect.

Las Vegas will hopefully be getting its very own art museum by the end of 2028, with Elaine Wynn and Roger Thomas championing the cause.

Wynn and Thomas, known for being interior designer for Wynn Resorts, joined Wednesday’s Las Vegas City Council meeting to secure land located in Symphony Park, while tearfully announcing plans for the museum, to be called the Las Vegas Museum of Art, as well as the architect for the project: Francis Kéré.

“We desperately need this [community],” Wynn, who co-founded Wynn Resorts with her former husband Steve Wynn, said. “It’s this concept — creating more community — that has inspired me to marshal one last effort of leadership to the city I love.”

The City Council approved entering into a partnership with the museum and the sale of 1.5 acres of land for a “less than fair market value.”

The 90,000-square-foot proposed art museum will include three exhibitions, gift shop, a cafe and an outside promenade, but no current plan for parking. The museum’s backers have until Jan. 6, 2027, to close on the land purchase and present financial details, but will most likely be sooner with plans to break ground in 2026.

The projected cost for the construction is $150 million, and the total campaign cost of $200 million, with plans to fund via grants, gifts, sponsors and donations. Prior to securing the land, organizers had already reached half of their funding goal. Additionally the museum will partner with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, alongside it’s director Michael Govan and where Wynn serves as co-chair.

Red Ridge Development will be the developers on the project.

Kéré was the first native African to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2022 — which Thomas called the “Nobel Prize of architecture”— and is known for his use of sustainable materials and architecture. The design for the museum will be inspired by Guardian Angel Cathedral located off the Strip.

“Francis is a man of the desert,” Thomas said. ”I believe that only a man of the desert can respond with full authenticity to designing an appropriate building solution for the American desert Southwest.”
