13 Top-Rated Things to Do in Langley, BC

Written by Magee Walker and Michael Law Updated Dec 23, 2023 We may earn a commission from affiliate links ( )

The beauty of Langley, British Columbia is that it is actually two places in one. On the one hand, you have the township of Langley : a 308-square-kilometer district municipality with a storied past, playing a historic role in fur trading, the gold rush, and beyond. On the other hand, there's the tiny, 10-square-kilometer City of Langley — a vibrant urban center with plenty of things to do.

Fort Langley National Historic Site

To truly experience the best of Langley, we recommend spending time in both the township and the city. When planning your itinerary, a great place to start is at the Fort Langley National Historic Site, where you'll get to explore the local history.

From here, check out a few of Langley's farms to learn about the community's agricultural side, sampling some farm-fresh fare along the way. Then, you can move into the city's downtown core to visit eclectic shops and restaurants, capping the day off with an energizing Vancouver Giants hockey game at the Langley Events Centre.

Some of the best tourist attractions in Langley are its smaller shops and museums — those that cater to niche interests, like old-fashioned telephone systems and all things aviation. The best way to learn something new is to talk to someone who is really passionate about it — and that's exactly what you'll find at the Canadian Museum of Flight and the BC Farm Museum, among other specialized places to visit in Langley.

For more sightseeing ideas, see our list of the top things to do in Langley, British Columbia.

1. Take the Langley Circle Farm Tour

2. go back in time at the fort langley national historic site, 3. expand your horizons at the canadian museum of flight, 4. go wild at the greater vancouver zoo, 5. get curious at the bc farm museum, 6. cheer on the vancouver giants hockey team, 7. discover langley city, 8. climb, jump, and run at the penzer action park, 9. stop and smell the flowers at full bloom lavender farm, 10. walk the fort-to-fort trail, 11. pay a visit to the alder grove heritage society and telephone museum, 12. campbell valley regional park, 13. derby reach regional park, where to stay in langley for sightseeing.

Farm in Langley

No town or city in the Metro Vancouver area has more farms than Langley: there are over 50 working farms in the township, several of which have earned a spot on the Langley Circle Farm Tour .

This self-guided tour is a great resource for visiting some of the most interesting and unique farms in town. Several farms allow you to pick your own juicy berries in the summer or to select the perfect pumpkin come Halloween. Many offer tasty farm-made treats for sale, like pies, jam, and honey - yum.

Every stop on the tour offers something special, but there are definitely a few that stand out. For instance, check out the Huacaya Alpacas at the Kensington Prairie Farm : you can marvel at the alpacas then visit the boutique, featuring super-soft alpaca goods.

At the Eagle Acres Dairy Farm , you'll get to try your hand at milking a cow. Milner Valley Cheese is a must-visit stop for cheese lovers - the goat's milk gelato is also worth sampling.

You can visit as few or as many farms as you wish - either way, you'll walk away with a newfound appreciation for Langley's agricultural scene.

Fort Langley National Historic Site

You don't need a time-travel machine to jump back to the 1800s - just visit the Fort Langley National Historic Site , an official Parks Canada National Historic Site that explores what life in Langley would have looked like in the 19 th century.

Visitors can learn more about Fort Langley's role in the fur trade and gold prospecting era by exploring the re-constructed timber buildings, complete with costumed interpreters and live demonstrations. Kids can experience history first-hand in the play area or by partaking in the Xplorers Program, which encourages kids to try a variety of activities.

If you want to take the experience to the next level, book an overnight stay in one of the themed A-frame cabins, like "Chez Louis" (theme: French-Canadian voyageurs) or "Stromness" (theme: Scottish boat builder).

Equal parts fun and informative, a visit to Fort Langley National Historic Site provides the chance to discover Langley's rich history.

Address: 23433 Mavis Ave, Langley, British Columbia

Canadian Museum of Flight

With more than 25 aircraft on display, the Canadian Museum of Flight is a must-visit for any lover of aviation. This hidden gem is located at the Langley Airport and features both static and flying aircraft, including a Handley Page Hampden from WWII (which happens to be the only one on display in the entire world).

The museum encourages hands-on interaction, so you can get as close as you want to many of the different aircraft. There's a lot to take away from a visit to the museum, ranging from the evolution of aircraft technology to the history of aviation in Canada.

The museum is non-profit and is supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, who devote their time to restoring some of the amazing aircraft featured at the museum. If you're lucky, you might catch a few volunteers working actively on a restoration project while you're here.

You can pop in to the Canadian Museum of Flight for a self-guided visit or you can register to reserve a spot on a guided tour, which explores the grounds inside and out.

Address: 5333 216 Street, Langley, British Columbia

Southern Eland at the Greater Vancouver Zoo

One of the best animal attractions in the Vancouver area is located in Aldergrove, a community in Langley: the Greater Vancouver Zoo . This isn't a huge zoo compared to, say, the Toronto Zoo or the San Diego Zoo, but being a smaller zoo has its perks.

For one, the zoo is extremely walkable — though if you prefer, you can always ride the train that winds through the property.

Second, you have the opportunity to observe the animals from much closer than a lot of the larger zoos. There's a wide range of animals to check out — over 140 different species , to be exact — some of which are local to BC (like the grizzly bear and the elk), others that are more exotic (like the hippopotamus and the giraffe).

If you're visiting the zoo in the summer, make a point of checking out the "Keeper Talks," where a zookeeper gives an educational rundown of the life of a zoo animal. For an extra fee, you can also register for a behind-the-scenes experience with the lions, black bears, and other animals.

If you're after an especially wild time, look into the family sleepover events, which are hosted at the zoo on select dates. Think camping in a tent on the zoo grounds, a nighttime safari, and stories around the campfire - in other words, a night you won't soon forget.

Address: 5048 - 264th Street Aldergrove, British Columbia

Old tractor

Agriculture played a key role in the development of Langley — and it continues to serve an important role today. The BC Farm Museum is a hub of pioneer and agricultural artifacts, exploring the evolution of farming equipment and the industry as a whole.

More than 5,000 donated historical items are on display throughout two buildings, so you'll definitely want to allow ample time to properly visit the entire site. Items on display range from tractors to horse buggies, from egg sorters to tomato separators.

Kids can explore the hands-on workshop and partake in a scavenger hunt, encouraging them to search the entire museum from top to bottom.

The BC Farm Museum is the perfect representation of the dedicated members of the Langley community: all museum staff are volunteers, and every piece of equipment in the collection was donated. Be sure to chat with the friendly on-site personnel, who are happy to share stories and explain the pieces of the collection.

Address: 9131 King Street, Langley, British Columbia

Hockey game

There's more to hockey in the Vancouver area than the Canucks, the beloved hometown NHL team. Case in point: the Vancouver Giants put on a mighty good show at the Langley Events Centre .

The Giants play in the Western Hockey League , a major junior hockey league overseen by the Canadian Hockey League. Many of the players, who are 16 to 20 years old, go on to play in the big leagues. Suffice to say, the caliber of hockey is exceptional - and the prices are much more reasonable than an NHL game (the free parking is the ultimate cherry on top).

The smaller venue size means fewer crowds, making for a more manageable experience for all members of the family. Plus, every seat in the house is a good seat — there's no nosebleed section here!

With concession food to nibble on, a family-friendly atmosphere, and non-stop action, you don't really need to even know anything about hockey to have a great time at a Giants game — though if you do happen to be a fan, you'll be thoroughly entertained.

Aerial view of Langley City

There's more to Langley than farms and horses: Langley City features a trendy downtown core that's perfect for catching up with a friend, grabbing a bite to eat, or partaking in some window shopping.

It's got all the perks of a small town — easily walkable, free parking — with big city attractions, including a wide range of shopping experiences ( over 500 , to be precise).

Special events and festivals take place throughout the year. Visiting in December? Check out the gingerbread walk, featuring real gingerbread masterpieces at various downtown businesses. If you're in the area in August, check out the Arts Alive Festival , a free event celebrating all forms of art, or the Fork & Finger event - perfect for the avid foodie.

To put it simply, Penzer Action Park is not your average park. There's a good chance your kids will lose their minds when they see this epic activity zone for the first time.

What's so special about it? Forget plain old swings and a boring slide: this park offers a parkour course (one for younger kids and another one for older kids, including an in-ground trampoline), a climbing playground, a concrete pump track, and various sports courts.

The highly interactive playground structures are unlike anything you've seen before, and kids of all ages will have a blast running and playing for hours .

The best part? It's all absolutely free.

Lavender farm at sunset

Farming is a big part of life in Langley, and let's face it: farms can be stinky. If traditional farms aren't your cup of tea, check out Full Bloom Lavender Farm , the nicest smelling farm around.

Full Bloom Lavender farm has the distinction of being the only lavender farm in Metro Vancouver. It operates seasonally, opening when the first variety of lavender blooms, which is typically mid-June.

You can wander the fields to your nose's content, then head to the farm store, which sells an array of lavender-themed products including lavender toiletries, lavender bundles, gooey lavender honey, and lots more.

Address: 2926 248 Street, Langley, British Columbia

Fort-to-Fort Trail

One of the best ways to truly experience a place is to travel it by foot. The Fort-to-Fort Trail allows you to do just that, connecting the Fort Langley National Historic Museum to Derby Reach Regional Park by way of a four-kilometer trail along the Fraser River.

You can opt to tackle all or part of the trail; however you choose to explore it, you'll be treated to mountain and river views, plus a scenic section that passes through a meadow.

The trail is relatively flat, making it a popular option for walking the dog or pushing a stroller. You can complete the entire Fort to Fort Trail as an out-and-back walk, stopping for lunch or a coffee at the halfway point before making your way back to the beginning. This is a great option for a relaxed and low-key activity that just about everyone will enjoy.

When's the last time you really thought about how your phone works?

Believe us: you'll look at your phone differently after a visit to the Alder Grove Heritage Society and Telephone Museum .

It's a tiny museum — just one simple building — but there's an awful lot of information and history inside, starting with the structure itself, which was built in 1910 . Formerly the site of the local telephone exchange, the building now holds the museum, along with a host of community archives.

The museum is by donation, and volunteer guides will share stories of Langley and explain how phone calls were made many decades ago, before everyone walked around with personal telephones tucked into their pockets. This is the kind of quirky but special place to visit that you can only find in small towns like Langley.

Address: 3190 271 Street Aldergrove, British Columbia

Campbell Valley Regional Park

The Campbell Valley Regional Park is a hot spot in Langley for those who love the great outdoors. Towering fir and cedar trees greet hikers and walkers as they take to the trails that wind their way under this impressive canopy of green.

Trails are level and easy and suitable for all ages, making the park a popular family destination. In addition to the trails, you'll also find picnic tables and shelters, drinking water, and washrooms. The park is also a popular place to visit for equestrian riding , so don't be surprised if you see people on horseback coming towards you on the trails.

For a bit of history, swing by the Annand/Rowlatt Farmstead, dating from 1898, and the Lochiel Schoolhouse , dating from 1924.

Address: 20285 8 Ave, Langley Twp, British Columbia

Derby Reach Regional Park

Another of Langley's great outdoor spaces is the Derby Reach Regional Park . Set along the banks of the mighty Fraser River, this park has a wonderful assortment of things to do.

One of the most popular pastimes is hiking , especially along the Edge Farm trail. This easy walk follows the banks of the Fraser River and offers exceptional views of the river and the surrounding countryside.

Derby Reach Regional Park also showcases early pioneer farming life, with exhibits and historic buildings . Time your visit right in the fall, and you may even get a tasty apple from the historic orchard.

Pack a picnic and plan a fun day for the family here. Picnic tables and shelters, some of which can be booked in advance, are set near wide-open spaces, allowing the kids space to run and roam.

For a good urban camping experience, set up your gear at one of the 38 sites at the Edgewater Bar Campground .

15 Best Things to Do in Langley (Brits-Columbia, Canada)

Part of the Metro Vancouver Regional District, Langley is dissected to the east and west by the Nicomekl River. The early European settlement city was developed along Old Yale Road; a historic early wagon road that served the Fraser Valley region. Today, it is a sprawling city that is made up of six main neighbourhoods.

Langley is a great place for outdoor lovers, what with its 17 different public parks. It is also a great destination for foodies, being home to some great vineyards and fabulous restaurants. Let’s not forget about its historic sites, zoo and horses. If you are visiting Vancouver and want to escape the big city for a few days, Langley is a great place for this. These are the 15 best things to do in Langley.

1. Taste wine

Chaberton Estate Winery

Being located in the Fraser Valley region means that Langley is home to some fabulous vineyards. There is no better way to sample all of these wines than to go wine tasting.

Most vineyards in and around the city offer tastings, and you don’t have to be a wine connoisseur to enjoy them. It may even be possible to take a tour of winery to see the vines, how the wine is bottled and even visit the wine cellar.

If you don’t have time to visit all, Chaberton Estate Winery is the one not to miss. This is Langley’s first ever winery in the region, and addition to offering tastings and tours, also has a phenomenal bistro.

2. Ride a horse

Langley Horses

Langley is actually known to be the ‘Horse capital of British Columbia’, having many places to buy horseback riding equipment. There are also numerous equestrian centres where visitors can ride or learn to ride a horse.

Head to Glen Valley Stables and you will have the opportunity to ride along one of three scenic horse trails. Travelling with small kids? Langley 204 Horseback Riding offers 30 minute pony rides!

There also happens to be a couple of therapeutic equestrian centres that offer horseback riding for children and adults of varying abilities. Horseback riding has been known to help improve ones physical, mental and emotional well-being.

3. Visit the birthplace of British Columbia

Fort Langley

This is what the Fort Langley National Historic Site is commonly referred to as, as it was the main depot for fur trade starting in 1829. Construction of the trading post started in 1827, which sat four kilometres away from where Fort Langley is today.

Any visitors interested in history should make sure to visit the historic site and go on an audio tour to learn everything that they can about the site. There are also live demonstrations, hands on activities and children’s activities.

You can even stay at the Fort Langley National Historic Site, as it features a heritage themed camping experience where you sleep in an A-frame cabin with a tented roof. Accommodations are completely waterproof, spacious and fun.

4. Go to the zoo

Greater Vancouver Zoo

No visit to Langley is complete without going to the Greater Vancouver Zoo. The 120 acre zoo is home to 140 animal species that live in various ecosystems. Plus, the zoo is dedicated to education and conservation, and is home to many rescued and orphaned animals.

Animals that can be seen here include the Nile monitor, American flamingo, emu, bison, chinchilla, red panda and Burmese python. The zoo is also home to big cats like the cheetah, lion, Northern lynx and Siberian tiger.

In addition to looking at animals, the zoo also offers experiences like talks, behind the scene tours and train rides. It’s even possible to have a zoo sleepover or to visit after dark for a night tour.

5. Look at planes

Canadian Museum of Flight Langley

This can be done at the Langley Regional Airport. But not only can you watch helicopters and charter planes fly by, but you can also ogle at historic aircraft.

The Canadian Museum of Flight is located at hangar 3 of the airport and displays a collection that is significant to Canadian aviation. It is a small museum, but has a generous collection.

Aircrafts that can be seem here include the Canadian designed Avro CF-100 Canuck Mk. 3B, Canadair CT-114 Tutor, De Havilland DH 100 Vampire, Lockheed CF-104D Mk. 2 Starfighter and Nelson BB-1 Dragonfly. There is also a collection of aircraft engines on display.

6. Spend a day at a farm

Aldor Acres Farm

Or on many farms, as there are a few in Langley, making it easy to spend a day going from one farm to the next. Go on a self-guided tour to some of these farms and get the chance to pick, taste and buy fresh products.

Pick berries, see how cheese is processed or watch farm animals go about their day. You can even purchase fine quality alpaca clothing, fresh homemade pies and old fashioned ice cream.

If you’re visiting Langley with the kids, then Aldor Acres Farm is the best option, as they offer plenty of family-friendly activities. These include farm tours, hayrides and the chance to actually pet some of the animals.

7. Race a car

Fast Track Indoor Karting

Not a real race car, but a go kart, which is what Fast Track Indoor Karting is all about. This is a fun, heart pumping, safe thing to do, especially on a rainy day.

The great thing about this place is that they have two separate tracks; one for all ages and one for those under four feet tall. This means that everyone can have fun driving one of these super-fast karts around the track.

All karts are new Sodi RT8 karts that go as fast at 75 kilometres per hour. Plus, they have adjustable seats and pedals, making them extremely safe and extremely fun.

8. Celebrate Canada Day

Canada Day

You have to be in the city on July 1st to do this, but if you are you are in luck, as Canada Day in Langley is a memorable event. Actually, it is many events, as there is much to do on this revelled day.

Start the day off with a pancake breakfast at Krause Farms, followed by cultural activities and ceremonies at Fort Langley. If you are on a family holiday go to Willoughby Community Park to enjoy face painting, mini-golf, live music and a mini farmers market.

Blackwood Lanes Vineyard and Winery is the place to have a romantic Canada Day evening, where you will get exceptional food, live music and a glass of bubbly. Canada Day ends with a fabulous fireworks display.

9. Take in a game

Langley Events Centre

There are both national and provincial teams in Langley, making it easy to take in a game while you are here. Many of them are based out of the Langley Events Centre, which is the largest sports and recreation centre in the city.

The biggest ticket is probably to see a Vancouver Stealth game of the National Lacrosse League. The Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League is also a great team to watch. Even though these are Vancouver teams, their home stadium is the Langley Events Centre.

Other smaller teams in Langley include the Langley Rams of the Canadian Junior Football League and the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League. You can also make a trip to Vancouver to watch the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, the CFL’s BC Lions or the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of the Major Soccer League.

10. Have fun in a park

Langley Park

Langley is home to 17 public parks that range from small neighbourhood parks to larger ones complete with trails. No matter which one you choose, you are sure to have fun.

If you are travelling with kids in tow, go to Brydon Park, which features an adventure playground, and a lagoon with turtles and waterfowl. There is also City Park and its children’s waterpark, playground and picnic tables.

Adrenaline junkies will enjoy mountain biking at Penzer Action Park, while those looking for something a little bit calmer will enjoy walking the trails at Nicomekl Park.

11. Stop and smell the flowers

Sendall Gardens

Visit the 3.67 acre Sendall Gardens and be surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers, some of which you can stop and smell. A nature trail passes through the gardens, with benches along the way to stop for a rest or a selfie.

The garden is also home to two duck ponds and a greenhouse that is filled with exotic plants. If that is not enough, birds, geese and swans can be seen wandering around the garden grounds.

If possible, avoid visiting on the weekend, as it is a popular spot for wedding photos. It is also used for special events, like wedding, family functions and corporate parties.

12. Cruise along the river

Langley Cruise

Take a scenic cruise in a paddle wheeler along the Fraser River and see the area from a different view. Cruises leave from The Quay at New Westminster, which is around a 30 minute drive from Langley’s city centre.

There are night cruises and day cruises, as well as cruises on special events like Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It is also possible to charter a boat and go on a private cruise along the river.

Go on a pub night cruise and enjoy a dance party on the water, or enjoy a full day cruise compete with lunch, a historic tour of the river and a visit to the Historic Fort Langley Site. Or opt for a three hour sunset cruise that includes a 3-course dinner.

13. Play a round of golf

Fort Langley Golf Course

Or play two, three or even four rounds. There are numerous golf courses in the Fraser Valley region, all of which can be reached from Langley in less than 30 minutes!

The oldest golf course in the area is the Fort Langley Golf Course, which has been open since 1968. The course is a hidden gem that sits along the banks of the Fraser and Salmon Rivers.

One of the most well-known courses in the area is the Northview Golf & Country Club, which features two Arnold Palmer Signature Design championship golf courses and has hosted the PGA tour a number of times. The 18-hole Championship Course at Newlands Golf & Country Club is also top notch.

14. Head to the mountains

Golden Ears Mountain

British Columbia is famous for its mountains, and no holiday to Langley is complete without visiting them. The best access from the city is probably the Golden Ears Provincial Park, which happily, is open year round.

The park is home to the Golden Ears Mountain that is known for its challenging hikes and climbs. Those that are less fit can just stick with one of the park’s less challenging hikes.

It is also possible to just head to Alouette Lake to go swimming, canoeing, water skiing or fishing. Those that want to really immerse themselves in nature and the mountains can stay overnight in one of the park’s camping sites.

15. Stand at the border

Peace Arch Provincial Park

The USA border is just a 20 minute drive south of Langley. It is here where you will find the Peace Arch Provincial Park.

The Peach Arch was built right on the international boundary between Canada and the United States in 1921 to commemorate lasting peace between the two nations. The historic landmark and surrounding park is maintained by both British Columbia and Washington State Parks.

The park is quite beautiful, what with its manicured gardens and lawns. It is a great place to have a picnic, enjoy a leisurely stroll and snap holiday photos.

Ella Langley & Riley Green Share Teaser Of Old-Timey “You Look Like You Love Me” Music Video, Featuring A Jamey Johnson Cameo

tour langley

Coming THIS Wednesday.

Riley Green  and  Ella Langley  have been on a roll with their virally popular hit “ “You Look Like You Love Me,” which is included on Ella’s debut studio album Hungover .

The cool, sort of vintage and throwback sound to it thanks to the multiple speaking parts that are very much Johnny Cash-style has clearly resonated, and it’s nearly impossible to get on Instagram or TikTok and scroll for even a minute without hearing part of the song.

Ella wrote most of it with Aaron Ratiere, while Riley came up with the words for his second verse, and I was hoping they’d come up with a cool concept for the music video, because the nature of the duet just lends itself so well for something special.

In terms of content, the lyrics find Ella walking up to a cute cowboy at the bar making the first move in a bit of a role reversal, and it looks like they more than delivered on bringing that to life based on the teaser Ella shared on social media earlier.

It finds Riley and Ella in an old-timey saloon, where we just get a few shots of them all dressed up in some incredible costumes and even a quick cameo from Mr. Jamey Johnson:

I’m actually really excited to see the whole thing (something I rarely say about a music video these days, sadly), and I have to take a second to personally thank Ella for the old school cowboy Riley character… you love to see it:

Ella Langley and Riley Green tease new music video.

Ahead of its Wednesday release, Langley dropped a teaser for "you look like you love me" that is wildly entertaining.

You think hype was big just for the song? Wait until you see the throwback theme of the "yllylm" music video. It's set in the 1800s and looks outstanding.

Give it a watch below, and let me know your thoughts at [email protected] .

There is zero chance this music video doesn't go viral as soon as it drops. Zero. Historical setting? Check. Big budget? Check. Two legit stars? Check. Great song? Check.

The "yllylm" music video is going to be fire, if the teaser is an accurate sign of things to come Wednesday.

The rings and their arching veins encircle a place of relative calm at the center of the supernova remnant. This hole at the center of the circle, and the three-dimensionality conveyed by the rings and their arching veins, give this image of Cassiopeia A the look of a giant, crackling, electric blue donut. Lane closure in Langley due to sinkhole

A sinkhole at 201A Street and Fraser Highway is seen in an image handed out by the Langley RCMP on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Crews with the City of Langley are assessing a sinkhole Saturday that left a rift between the road and a sidewalk.

The sinkhole is located near the intersection of 201A Street and Fraser Highway, local Mounties said in a news release.

Police and the city’s engineering department were sent to the scene to investigate.

The right turning lane on 201A Street onto the highway is being detoured, and signs, tape and cones have gone up around the sinkhole.

“Motorists and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area to allow crews to conduct a proper assessment,” said Cpl. Zynal Sharoom, in the release.
