Kotel Tunnel and Old City Tour: Jerusalem
by Sarah Einhorn | Sep 23, 2017 | 0 comments
For years Pesach Levy was the brand name for tours of the Kotel Tunnel and the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. A couple of years ago, I joined a tour run by him and his son Yitzchak. By now Pesach Levy has retired, but his son Yitzchak runs the Kotel Tunnel and Old City Tour with his father’s special touch injected.
It is fascinating to learn how little of the Kotel wall we actually see. Most of it is underground. The Shaar Shechem and houses nearby are built on top of the wall. The arches in the tunnel below the Kotel are very interesting. The largest stone, about 25 feet long, can be seen there, too.
The tour continues to the Jewish Quarter of the Old City. There are a few old synagogues with interesting history. Rabbi Levy expounds on the stories behind each of the Synagogues. Each one is unique with its own distinctive story. Some of the Synagogues visited are the The Ohr Hachaim Synagogue, The Nisan Bak Synagogue, The Ari Synagogue, The Tzemach Tzedeck Synagogue, The Rambam Synagogue, The Churva Synagogue.
The Kotel Tunnel Tour and Old City Tour can help you understand the history of the Jewish people on a whole new level.

Omsk is a city and the administrative center of Omsk Oblast, Russia, located in southwestern Siberia 2,236 kilometers (1,389 mi) from Moscow. Omsk acts as an essential transport node, serving as a train station for Trans-Siberian Railway and as a staging post for the Irtysh River. The wooden fort of Omsk was built in 1716 by a cossack unit led by Ivan Buchholz to protect the expanding Russian frontier along the Ishim and the Irtysh rivers against the Kyrgyz and Dzungar nomads of the Steppes. Average daily temperatures, taken over the past three decades, are +20 °C (68 °F) for July and −17 °C (1 °F) for January, although summer temperatures can be much higher and winter ones much lower.
The Best Of Omsk
Are you a omsk kosher establishment or tour operator, jewish history, poi & kosher establishments in omsk.
The first Jewish settlers in Omsk were exiles to Siberia. During 1828–56 Jewish children who had been seized for military service were sent to the *Cantonist regiment in Omsk. The community was formed by the exiles and ex-servicemen of the Russian army. In 1855 the first synagogue was founded and a second in 1873. The Jewish population numbered 1,138 Jews (3% of the population) in 1897. There were 4,389 Jews in the province of Omsk in 1926; 2,135 in the city (1.6% of the total) in 1939; and 9,175 Jews in 1959. In 1970 the Jewish population was estimated at about 10,000. In 2002 there were 2,400 Jews in the entire Omsk district, with Jewish life reviving from the 1990s, including Jewish clubs, a Chabad kindergarten, and an active synagogue in the city.
What Is *JOFY?
JOFY, or "Jewish Observant Friendly" Establishments are lodging establishments offering special services for Jewish Observant guests such as Shabbat meals, accommodation on lower floors and regular keys for the rooms. It can also be a NON KOSHER establishment located in walking distance from the local Shul, community or kosher restaurants area.
Please note - *JOFY does NOT mean that KOSHER food is served on the premises!
