All Barcelona Highlights Tour 8res 1

Casa Batiló Guided Tour    Casa Batiló is not just a building, but also an artistic legend; a calm sea is reflected by an outstanding façade. Opening the curtain of this façade reveals a world of architectural details and other attractive elements. The apartment building enchants visitors with its remarkable design and the vast repertoire of visual solutions employed. In every corner with the support of your guide, you will discover something surprising. Each detail is fascinating and imaginative.    The tour includes a visit to the legendary Noble Floor (it used to be the home of the Batlló family), the Attic (it was used by the residents as a store and laundry room), and the Rooftops and Chimneys.    The Chimneys present the well-known spine of the multi-colored dragon killed by St Georges. Revel in the magnificent lobby, main staircase, and light well (it used to be the main staircase for the rest of the neighbors). The experience replicates how you would feel walking through a fairytale.    The Magical World of Casa Batlló will stir your imagination with the metaphors and representation of nature, in particular the sea, which will inspire you and stimulate your senses and emotions.  An explosion of colours and forms as well as the splendid examples of the decorative arts of the epoch show how dedicated Gaudí was to his craft. An immersion in modernity, enigmatic forms, the interpretation of a dream, a Mediterranean marvel, a place of innovation and new concepts, this structure is a place for reflecting on the capabilities of art and design.  Casa Batlló is all this and more. It is no surprise that UNESCO declared Casa Batlló a World Heritage site in 2005.

This full-day tour is full of magical sightseeing, neighborhood hopping, jaw-dropping landmarks, and a wealth of knowledge from your guides!   We will start the intimate small group tour with a drive up the famous mountain of Montjuic, which offers excellent views over the city as well as the main site of the 1992 Olympic games.   After a brief stop at the terrasse of the Cataluña National Art Museum (MNAC), we will make our way down to Placa Espanya. Make sure you look out the window to observe the stunning Modernist buildings of the Eixample area.   As we make our way to the famous Sagrada Familia, you will first be enamored by Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona’s most expensive boulevard and the setting of two of Barcelona’s most talked about Gaudi buildings: La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.   Before arriving at the Sagrada Família, we will stop at the Hospital de Sant pau I de Santes Creus, built between 1901 and 1930. Tucked away from the tourist route, this hospital has been declared a ‘UNESCO World Heritage Site’ and is one of the greatest symbols of Modernist Architecture in Barcelona.   Finally, we will arrive at Sagrada Família, stopping there for a guided visit inside the basilica. Our Skip the Line policy means there will be NO QUEUES! For many, this is the highlight of their Barcelona experience, as the popularity of this city equates to large queues for most of the major sites.

Barcelona Street

Next, we will make our way to the oldest part of Barcelona, the Barrio Gotico. This wonderful district was still surrounded by medieval walls until the end of the 19th century.    We will hop off the bus and enjoy a stroll through the narrow winding streets of the historic heart of Barcelona.   At the start of our short walk through the historic streets of Barcelona, we will stop for a brief tour of one of Barcelona’s most traditional indoor food markets: Mercat de Santa Caterina.   From there, we will travel back in time, going from the Roman era through to the early Middle Ages, when the Catalan counts were controlling the Mediterranean Sea and Barcelona was the capital of an empire.   Included in this part of the tour is also a visit to the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Palace, the original 2000-year-old Roman Temple, and parts of the Cathedral.   Before our lunch break, we are off to the Born district where the guide will point out a variety of restaurants and tapas bars suitable for lunch before ending the tour in the magnificent Santa Maria del Mar church – one of the most beautiful in Barcelona.

Maria Del Mar Church

Your guide will happily provide you with suggestions for tapas, cafes, and restaurants and ensure your taste buds are happy with whatever you may be craving. Once your stomach is full, it is time to make our way to the famous Park Güell, a city garden designed by Anton Gaudi. Our guide will lead the group down through the park explaining the tantalizing garden concept and introducing you to some of Gaudí’s most bizarre creations.    Next, the bus will take us through the traditional Catalan neighborhood of Gracia, a lovely part of the city with a bohemian vibe.    We will stop at one of the most famous Gaudi buildings of all: La Pedrera. We will have an hour here to explore the monument. Thanks to our Skip the Line policy there will be no waiting in the queues!   After the visit, our tour will end here at around 4 pm. There is the Diagonal metro stop (L4 & L5) just in front of the building.  Still, have energy? Many travelers usually prefer to stroll down the impressive boulevard of Passeig de Gracia towards Placa Cataluña.

Creative imaginations see human or animal shapes in some of these peaks, giving those names and inventing legends to explain their fantastic origins.

You will go up to Montserrat with the Cog-Wheel Train. This will drop you in the middle of the Monastery. It is a 15-minute trip with a privileged and spectacular view of the mountain.

The Benedict Sanctuary of Montserrat was founded in 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, who is enshrined in the monastery’s Royal Basilica.

The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who spread the word of the miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Word of mouth led to more and more pilgrims visiting Montserrat.

Today, Montserrat has been modernized to continue attending to the needs of pilgrims, one thousand years after it was originally founded.

General Tips, Recommendations, and Advice

While Barcelona has a warm, balmy climate it is still adjacent to the sea, which means weather can sometimes be unpredictable. When it does rain, it rains in full tropical style. Although it is unlikely, we recommend having a layer or two just in case. If it is the summer, you have much less to worry about.

If you are doing a tour that includes Montserrat Mountain, definitely bring layers regardless of the season. The weather on the mountain tends to change swiftly.

Wear sunscreen! The sun in Barcelona is strong. Even if you are enjoying a lovely sea breeze, the sun can still burn your skin. It is best to be cautious and not battle a painful sunburn!

Beautiful Barcelona

Wear comfortable shoes. Barcelona is an old city full of charming cobblestone streets and lovely historic districts. Comfortable shoes are essential for the walking tours offered on this list. On the Montserrat tour, you will be walking on a mountain. Sneakers are a great choice.

Make a “must-see” list for your trip. This list will help you navigate our article, as many tours are offered and it can be hard to narrow down which ones you are most interested in.

Did you know?

One fun fact about Barcelona City Tours is that they often include visits to the “Superblocks.” These are innovative urban planning projects aimed at creating pedestrian-friendly zones within the city. In these areas, several city blocks are interconnected, and traffic is restricted to the perimeter, making the interior streets car-free or significantly reduced in traffic. Superblocks are designed to prioritize the well-being of residents and visitors by providing green spaces, playgrounds, outdoor seating, and cultural activities in the heart of the city. They promote a sense of community, reduce pollution, and contribute to a more sustainable and enjoyable urban environment. Exploring these Superblocks on a city tour allows you to witness Barcelona’s commitment to innovative urban planning and sustainability while enjoying a unique urban experience within the bustling city. It’s a testament to Barcelona’s progressive approach to urban design and livability.

We hope that you have gained valuable insight from this article. Acquiring knowledge about the city you are traveling to ensures that you fully enjoy the experience.

Best Barcelona Guided Tours FAQ

The best time to take a tour of Barcelona is a matter of personal taste. Just keep in mind that Barcelona is a year-round destination. If you love warm weather and want to enjoy the beaches, the summer months are ideal.

However, keep in mind that this is also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices. If you’d prefer to avoid the crowds, aim to visit during the shoulder seasons of spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November). The weather is still pleasant, and you can explore the city without the summer hustle and bustle.

Barcelona’s must-see attractions include the iconic Sagrada Família, Park Güell and Casa Batlló . Their breathtaking architecture devised by Antoni Gaudí are the most characteristic spots in the city.

You can also take a leisurely stroll down La Rambla or visit the nearby Gothic Quarter is a must-visit to immerse yourself in the city’s history. And of course, don’t miss out on the beautiful Barcelona beaches, where you can relax and soak in the Mediterranean sun.

It’s essential to select the Barcelona tour that aligns with your interests and preferences. First, determine what aspects of Barcelona intrigue you the most. Are you interested in architecture, art, history, food, or a combination of these?

Look for tours that focus on those specific aspects. Reading reviews and testimonials from previous participants can also give you valuable insights into the quality and experience of the tour. And of course, the list above on my blog is a good start!

It is highly recommended to book your Barcelona tours online in advance, especially during peak tourist seasons. Some popular tours and attractions may have limited spaces, and booking ahead guarantees your spot.

Additionally, certain guided tours offer skip-the-line access to popular attractions, helping you bypass long queues and make the most of your time in Barcelona.

Booking in advance also gives you the opportunity to plan your itinerary better, ensuring you have enough time to explore all the must-see sights.

Most Barcelona tours last around 3-4 hours, so you should budget about half your day. However, there are a number of full day tours that involve visits to more than one destination, or trips outside the city to Montserrat, the Costa Brava, or local wine regions.

The popular Bus Turistic is available in 24 or 48 hour packages, which give you access to an open top double-decker bus that will transport you between 30+ stops throughout the city.

The best Barcelona tour is entirely subjective based on your personal preferences. If you’re looking for a complete overview of the city, the Barcelona hop on hop off bus allows you to take a self-guided tour of Barcelona via its 30+ stops in 24 or 48 hour increments.

Otherwise, the Park Güell & Sagrada Família packaged tour provides entrance and guided tours through Barcelona’s top two attractions. And the Barcelona Tapas & Wine Experience gives you a taste of La dolce vita, Catalan-style .

Gaudi Tour Barcelona

In the footsteps of the brilliant catalan architect antoni gaudí.

It is difficult to talk about Barcelona without mentioning Antoni Gaudí, certainly the most famous Catalan public figure in the world. Born in 1852 and died in 1926, this man donated to Catalonia no less than 7 works that are now part of the UNESCO World Heritage: Güell Park, Güell Palace, Casa Milà-La Pedrera, Casa Vicens, the Nativity facade and the crypt of the Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló and the crypt of Colònia Güell. It is also difficult to imagine his works without them, given that his creative imagination, his inspirations and his incredible technical innovations allowed him to defy the weightlessness and the straitjacket of a profession - in his time - that was frozen in dogmas. We owe him everything from the invention of Catalan Modernism to the revolution in architectural techniques and craftsmanship: ceramics, glassware, ironwork, carpentry, joinery, trencadis. Our section “Gaudi Tour Barcelona” will allow you to find the guided tour or the skip-the-line ticket allowing you to visit the monument of the great master who will please you the most. We also offer combined tickets to visit several Gaudi monuments at the best price and in the best conditions of visit. Your discovery of Gaudí begins on this page !!
