Fred and Dorothy DeNure began operating sightseeing tours in 1960 with destinations that included day trips in the Toronto area and longer tours to Atlantic Canada. The business has grown to include further-reaching destinations throughout North America, Britain and Europe. Fred and Dorothy’s son Ray DeNure is presently overseeing the operation of the company as it continues to grow and thrive.

The DeNure Tours headquarters is located in Lindsay, Ontario, just 90 km north-east of Toronto.

Where We Travel

Florida has been an important part of DeNure’s touring business since 1965. DeNure Tours purchased property in Daytona Beach in 1973 and has become well known for ocean-side, stay-put holidays ever since. We refer to these stay-put type of ocean-side holidays as Winter Longstays, and we expanded to include Myrtle Beach in 1997, St. Petes Beach in 2007, and Destin in 2011. These warm destinations are popular for the economical transportation provided on our Express Motorcoaches.

In 1984, DeNure Tours expanded to include innovative Touring Vacations in Europe. Destinations include England, Ireland, Scotland, the British Isles and Italy.

Cruises and coach tours began with DeNure Tours’ Alaska program in 1985, and expanded to include Bermuda and the Bahamas. Then, DeNure Tours combined its Express-based, stay-put holidays with Caribbean Cruises to come up with unique and popular holidays. Recently, DeNure Tours has added River Cruising to the list of holidays for people to enjoy.

A Unique Motorcoach Focus

DeNure Tours is unique in the motorcoach business because it focuses exclusively on touring and it uses its own coaches. This ownership of coaches allows better control over the touring elements of transportation, itineraries and staffing which makes way for a smoother, more care-free holiday. Owning the coaches and focusing exclusively on touring provides superior service to the customer.

DeNureTours celebrates 60 years of travel experience to dream destinations around the world

To celebrate its legacy, the lindsay-based tour company is offering a special eight-day anniversary tour in april to branson, missouri.

When Fred and Dorothy DeNure first started DeNureTours in 1960, the Lindsay residents probably couldn’t have imagined that 60 years later the company they founded would be running more than 45 unique tours (and counting) across several continents.

As the family-owned Canadian tour agency approaches its milestone anniversary in 2020, it’s incredible to think how many travellers must have passed through its tours over the years, seeing their dream destination with the expert guidance of a DeNureTours representative and coming away with cherished memories and lifelong friends from among their fellow travelling companions.

It was a simple start in the beginning, with day trips offered to Toronto and longer trips to Atlantic Canada. Over the years, with an enthusiasm for immersive travel sweeping the globe, DeNureTours became perfectly positioned to expand to new markets and destinations.

Today, the Lindsay-based company remains a family affair. In 1985, Fred and Dorothy’s son, Ray DeNure joined the business and later succeeded his parents to run the company — a position that he still holds today.

Ray carried forward his parent’s founding philosophy of creating the best vacations at affordable prices. He has also presided over an era of unprecedented expansion, with DeNureTours now running tours not just in the U.S. and Canada, but stretching as far as Europe, Britain, and the Caribbean.

They have expanded from deluxe motorcoach tours to include cruises, rail tours, and more, across six distinct styles of travel: sightseeing tours, cruising tours, sunshine vacations, special interest tours, active tours, and day trips.

Programs that DeNureTours began in the ’60s to destinations like the East Coast and Florida, are still as popular today, says Julia Bryan, general manager of DeNureTours. It’s commercial travel that has changed dramatically over the years.

“Florida was a known destination 60 years ago, but people didn’t necessarily know how to plan a trip unless they went to a travel agent,” Bryan explains. “Now with the internet, travel has become much faster and convenient and we can find out just about anything about a destination.”

“Over the years, we looked at what people are interested in and where they want to travel, and we found a way to do it, whether it’s on a bus, cruise ship, plane or train.”

Throughout fall and winter, DeNureTours offers a variety of departures to Daytona Beach and St. Pete Beach, Florida, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina — all ideal vacation spots that offer the perfect combination of popular local attractions, fun day excursions with fellow Canadian travellers, and time to unwind poolside or on the sandy beaches that DeNureTours’ sunshine vacations are known for.

In 1987, DeNureTours expanded their vision and built a hotel, located oceanside in Daytona Beach, called the Nautilus Inn. The hotel has destination representatives to provide assistance and organize on-site social activities such as cards, crafts and bingo. There are regular complimentary excursions using their own shuttle bus and driver to take their guests to local shopping centres, markets, races and dinner venues.

Bringing guests to these southern locales has been part of the travel agency’s legacy for six decades. DeNureTours’ award-winning long-stay resort programs in Florida and South Carolina continue to be popular for those looking to escape the Canadian chill.

DeNureTours is also well-versed in creating unique travel itineraries for Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland. So much that they’ve “become experts in those regions and have developed close relationships with hoteliers, suppliers, and locals,” says Bryan.

DeNureTours has been winning the interest of travellers with its Newfoundland and Labrador tours for 52 years. It continues to be one of their most popular Canadian tours.

“Some of the places that we visited when DeNureTours first started going to Newfoundland are still there,” Bryan says, which is a benefit for travellers. “For example, if something were to go wrong, having people there that you can trust and can turn to for help is great.”

It’s another example of travelling hassle-free knowing that DeNureTours has taken care of all the “little things” so you don’t have to, which will make the difference so that your trip is exceptional, adds Bryan.

Throughout 2020, DeNureTours will be celebrating with a few special events, including an April 14th departure to Branson, Missouri.

Known as the place where the American pioneer story began, the eight-day tour will begin in St. Louis and head to the top of one of America’s most iconic symbols in the Midwest sky, The Gateway Arch. At 63 stories high, it’s the tallest man-made monument in the U.S. and symbolizes the gate through which thousands of pioneers set out by wagon westward, blazing the Oregon Trail.

Other tour highlights include the Titanic museum and viewing of over 400 artifacts retrieved from a 1987 expedition to the ocean floor. Every visitor receives a boarding ticket with the name and class of one Titanic passenger. You can walk the full-scale replica of the grand staircase, tour the corridors of the majestic ship that sank on her maiden voyage, and discover if your passenger survived when you leave.

For country music lovers, Branson is packed with music venues from classic to contemporary. A special highlight is Clay Cooper’s Country Express, featuring Clay and his cast of 24 incredible entertainers who show their versatility while performing all styles of music including country, rock ‘n roll, gospel, and more. In honour of DenureTours’ 60th anniversary, Clay Cooper himself will present DeNureTours CEO Ray DeNure with a celebratory plaque.

While in Branson, visitors can also enjoy a winery tour, a country music festival, and a steakhouse or two, before travelling to Illinois for an afternoon at the Navy Pier in Chicago and on to Battle Creek in Michigan before heading home.

BORDER CROSSING Information

COVID-19 protocols vary from region to region, and some jurisdictions limit access to services based on vaccination status. In addition, border crossing requirements, even within Canada, can vary. Although every effort will be made to keep the following border crossing information up to date, please refer to the government web-sites for the most current information.  No matter where your travels take you, close to home or abroad, in addition to having current ID, it is wise to have your official COVID-19 vaccination receipts with you.

Entering / Returning to Canada

There have been many changes to the border crossing requirements, and it is important to always refer to the government web-sites for current requirements.   The primary reference for entering or returning to Canada is the Government of Canada website:

Entering the United States

For entering the U.S., the requirement for proof of COVID-19 vaccination status ended on May 11, 2023. W hen travelling outside Canada, it is important to ensure that a valid passport  is carried and it is still a good practice to carry proof of COVID-19 vaccination status , (see our step-by-step guide on how to download your vaccines certificates ).

Cruise Ship Travel

If your travel includes a cruise ship, please refer to the Government of Canada page with specific recommendations and information.  

As of July 18, 2022, the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) COVID-19 Program for cruise ships is NO LONGER in effect, but they still have recommendations for cruise ship travel . and requirements for proof of COVID-19 vaccination status vary by cruise line so it is best to check with your specific cruise line when planning to travel.

Clean Care Promise

The safety and security of our guests and staff will always be our highest priority, and our Clean Care Promise  outlines our already high standards of cleanliness.

Protocols BEFORE Travelling

DeNure Tours staff will disinfect each vehicle prior to departure.  This includes:

• Cleaning all surfaces using approved disinfectants following government guidelines
• A continued emphasis on high contact areas
• Vehicles will be subject to daily cleaning with a focus on sanitizing.

FRESH AIR EXCHANGE

Our motorcoach HVAC systems are designed to inject a flow of fresh air into the cabin, renewing the air for the entire cabin every 5 minutes. (In a home or office, this is typically every 3 hours.)

VACCINES FOR STAFF

For the safety of our staff and guests, all Canadian coach driver and tour director employees of DeNure Tours will have completed the COVID-19 vaccination series.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

DeNure Tours provides recommended PPE to coach drivers and tour directors, cleaning staff, and all DeNure Tours staff for their safety.

WEARING OF A FACEMASK

While travelling on the motorcoach, we continue to recommend:

• Wear a facemask if you feel it is in your best interest to do so
• Be respectful of those who feel it is right for them to wear a mask

Protocaols WHILE Travelling

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION  in sharing the responsibility of ensuring the safety of fellow travellers:

Guests should NOT travel if they are sick , think they may be sick, have been exposed to someone who is sick, or have a temperature.

Follow the applicable protocols of each stop and itinerary item along our route. (Although requirements with respect to COVID-19 have been withdrawn, it is possible that something else may come along.) 

Guests should keep their cabin area clean and remove their own garbage at the end of each day using the provided garbage disposal unit.

Guests are welcome to bring their own supplies  including face coverings, if applicable, as well as unscented disposable wipes and hand sanitizer.

Details to be aware of ...

Staffing Shortages  are still an issue for restaurants, hotels, and attractions.  Your patience is appreciated.

Blankets and pillows:  A limited number of blankets and pillows will be available for sightseeing tours.  Guests are welcome to bring their own sanitized items for use on the coach.  Some guests are sensitive to the air conditioning, so a light jacket or wrap to wear while on the coach is suggested.

Water/Beverages:  Guests are welcome to bring their own reusable container for hot or cold beverages, provided it has a screw-on lid.  Bottled water will be available for a nominal fee.

Headphones are no longer available for purchase.  Guests need to bring their own headphones for use with personal devices and to enjoy all onboard entertainment including movies, satellite radio, and informative documentaries about local attractions.

Handouts:  There will be limited handouts of paper items such as maps, games, or handouts.  Guests are welcome to bring their own entertainment options such as reading materials, puzzle books, a tablet or iPad, etc.

If using an electronic device , it is strongly recommended that the book / movie / game(s) is downloaded to the device BEFORE boarding the coach.  Internet is limited on the coach for streaming/downloading and can be intermittent depending on location.  Of course, internet access is usually available at hotels and many of the stops while travelling.

Seat rotation is returning. All guests will initially take their assigned seats as noted in the ticket package. The coach will be freshly sanitized, and guests are welcome to bring along hand sanitizer or wipes for use in their area. Seat rotation will be in effect, but for health or safety reasons, may be adjusted at the discretion of our staff.

What Is A Long Stay

The sunny destinations currently offered  in Florida and South Carolina and our new addition in The Algarve, Portugal, are ideal vacation spots with great weather and amenities to match any traveller’s interests, energy levels and lifestyles. The properties we use are as varied as our destinations. They all provide the space you need to relax and enjoy the swimming pool, whirlpool, or stop by the activity room to socialize with fellow guests. In general, the properties have kitchen facilities, elevators and guest laundry facilities.

In the U.S. destinations, there is a Sunshine Getaways Program Director who has put together welcoming and entertaining programs for your enjoyment and a schedule of social outings  including local special events. Weekly theatre shows, shopping trips, local museums, dining trips, and spring baseball are a few examples of the activities available. The activities offered change from week to week and depend on the season and location. Guests can also choose to just relax on the beach or sit by the pool and soak up the sun.

Our new long stay destination in Portugal does not  include shuttle transportation or a formal activity program, but there is a grocery store and many things to see and do within walking distance of the property.  Our on-site Sunshine Getaways representative will be available to answer questions and provide suggestions.

These trips are particularly good for solo travellers, since there are many opportunities to meet and enjoy the company of like-minded fellow guests.

How Do I Get There

Let us do the driving.

We recognize that air travel is not for everyone, so we offer a unique service.

Transportation is an important component of our Sunshine Getaways. We offer a unique motorcoach service to all of our sunny destinations in Florida and Myrtle Beach. Our luxury motorcoaches are equipped with a bunk enabling two drivers to alternately drive and sleep. This eliminates an overnight stay; however, we do stop for comfort breaks every 3-4 hours en route. Our friendly drivers help you through border crossings and restaurants stops. Below is how the schedule works:

Southbound Travel

Day 1: Morning departure

Day 2: Arrive at destination in afternoon

Northbound Travel

Day 1: Afternoon departure

Day 2: Arrive at home in evening

The Comfort of Coach Travel

A standard coach accommodates 56 passengers; however, we have removed seating and reconfigured them for your travel comfort, allowing for greater legroom so you can sit back and relax. Seating is subject to availability and is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Our luxury motorcoaches feature:

• Increased legroom
• Reclining seats
• Washroom onboard
• Entertainment system (bring your headsets to enjoy satellite radio and movies)

Prefer to Fly?

Our Sunshine Getaways are also available in conjunction with return flights from major Canadian cities (additional charges may apply.) When booked through Sunshine Getaways, your flight price to Orlando, Tampa and Myrtle Beach also includes return transfers between the U.S. airport and the resort.
