safari 377 has no power

my budy just bought a sled that needed some work and i said i would help him fix it up. so when we went to go look at it it started right up but would only run off the primer so i assumed it would need that carbs cleaned. i go the sled home and we cleaned the carbs and put new needle and seats in it then replaced one of the boots because it had a crack in it. i cleaned the oil pump and the fuel pump also. now I'm at a loss because it will idle great like it should and you can walk out side after a day and pull it over once and it will fire right up 1 pull no priming. and then you can get on it and hit the throttle and it will move about 200' then it just stops and wont move it will still run and idle good but will not move. no matter how much gas you give it. then you let is sit for an hour or so and it does the same thing. and when we get it to move that 200' it will not take the skies off the ground and it doesn't have a lot of power and it doesn't make sense to me because it has 130psi in both cylinder and good spark in both cylinders this is a list of what was replaced needles and seats 1 carb boot fuel line spark plugs list of what was cleaned carbs oil pump fuel pump if you have any ideas of what it could be please let me know thank  

the sled is a 1991 ski doo safari 377 fan and i also tried running the sled with out the air box to see if the air box was the problem and it didn't make a difference  

to start with take the carb off again and clean the pilot jet look at the pinned post on how to clean carbs. dual or single carb. have you checked the spark plug caps maybe some times the cap is failing and you have no spark and then next time you have spark. it almost sounds like when the sled runs bad it running off one cylinder maybe you cdi si failing on one side also. how is the belt a worn out belt will give the same affect is the belt sitting on the secondary right if the belt is sitting lower then the outer circumference then the belt is to worn out or the secondary spring is to weak it will not engage properly feeling like your starting off on a high gear is the primary clutch engaging properly. have you checked the crank seals bad seals will do what your problem is. i never clean my fuel pump i rebuild my fuel pump. does the sled sound like it's starving for fuel the fuel tank vent could be clogged, the check valve could be sticking closed and not getting enough fuel i know it sounds like alot of things to check but process of elimination  

Brake could be froze up. You drive a bit and it gets hot and locks everything up. Just dealt with this a couple weeks ago.  

I had the same issue and it was my brake caliper seizing up. Does it go when u pick the track up? I had the hood open and had the track off the ground and notice sparks coming from the brake.

iv tried it all and it docent make a differences its like when it gets a little wormed up it looses all its power but it can idle all day no problem. if got the clutches cleaned. disconnected the break checked the bottom end seals for leaks has 130 psi in both cylinders cleaned the carb several times chanced the spark plugs. the only think i can think of is to rebuild the bottom end but im not 100% convinced that that is the problem. if you have any ideas pleas let me know thanks.  

i don't know much about cdi's but it kinda of sounds like somthing is going south on that end of it, coil maybe or cdi box  

Take your muffler off...it's probably blocked.  

so i just ended up pulling the motor to replace the end baring and i found out that it was the crank. all the main crank barring are worn out and shake side to side so i need a new crank. thank for all the replies and help. i also know that his is the problem because the motor has a little bit if a rumble when it starts to act up and it will run and start just find but it has no powers.  

bearings will not cause lose of power unless the the crank is wearing out the crank seals or the bearings are seizing up i have rebuilt many motos were the bearings are not perfect but still useable. that being said do the best to repair crank replace seals new engine gaskets check comrpession and you should be ok. GOOD LUCK keep use posted when it's running good  

rcgunner, Your issue sounds familar. My 1987 Safari 377 tops out at 50mph where my 1986 377 tops out at 60+mph. You would not notice the power issue much other than when at wide open throttle. My sleds have been well cared for and kept indoors, but has sat in my uncle's garage with limited use and probably spent a few winters without riding at all. Both sleds tested even @ 100psi even on both sets of cylindars. I've got psi envy of the 130 your sled tested out at! My rings might be a bit stuck from sitting over the years. I have not done any repairs yet, but the first place I'm going to inspect is the fuel system, starting with the fuel pump. I know my uncle was really good about putting stabilizer in the tanks, but still suspect over the years the gas flow has some restrictions due to deposits or gumming. When WOT it slightly boggs down, in my gear head, I want to believe it is starving for just a little more fuel at WOT. In my fear head, the cylindar walls were brekaing down! Again worth mentioning is that the compression test was dead even. The other consideration is that I've blown through two headlamps on my 1987 377. Not sure if touching the bulb with my fingers (oil from skin) caused the bulb to heat up and crack or weather the voltage regulator needs replacing. No other electrical issues observed other than the possible relation to the limited top end speed of 50mph (mabye related, maybe not). Another factor is that this might have been the sled that went through the ice and was submerged 20 some odd years ago. I'm confident it was serviced afterwards, but it is possible a bushing or bearing in the power train could be partially compromised due to being under water. One more consideration is that I suspect outboard 2 stroke oil was put in the injection tank. I've never seen test result comparisons, but have always been schooled not to use outboard oil in snowmobiles. I'm interested to know weather or not the crank bearing issue resolves the power issue you are having. Does anybody know weather or not the throttle linkage to the oil injection system also advances the ignition timing or is the timing is centrifically advanced? Any feedback is welcomed. I used to wrench on marine engines and have done a few engine rebuilds, and consider myself somewhat- advanced in mechanical ability.
