THINGS TO DO

Places to visit, philippines tour packages from india.

The Philippines is an archipelago in South-East Asia. Here Unesco World Heritage Sites lie close to decadent casinos and the populous mega city of Manila is just as popular as the spotless beaches of Boracay. Perhaps this is why the Philippines is one of the most striking and unforgettable countries in the world that one can visit.

The name of the country brings to mind its pristine tropical island beaches that are second to none. Constantly ranked among the best in the world, the soft sands of White Beach on Boracay Island is where most visitors like to spend a big part of their time in the Philippines.

The untouched shore of White Beach gently merges into the calm, warm turquoise water and with the fence of tall, swaying palm trees on the side, the beach is indeed postcard perfect. There are luxurious resorts in the area, and there are things to do and enjoy for everyone. Thrill seekers are spoilt for choice at Boracay, with premier water activities like kite surfing, jet skiing, and fly fishing.

A favourite activity here is parasailing, and the bird’s-eye view that parasailing offers of the island and the ocean is beyond stunning. For those who want to spend relaxing, laid back hours, Boracay, with its unparalleled views of the sunrise and the sunset and every stage in between, is simply heavenly.

El Nido, a district in the Palawan area of the country, is a striking island, with views of bright blue-green waters, veiled lagoons, gigantic natural limestone structures and miles and miles of soft sand. Island hopping is one of the best things to do in El Nido, and the hopping tours to the surrounding places are divided into 4 groups, namely Tour A, Tour B, Tour C and Tour D.

Tour A is the quintessential tour, covering the heavenly Big Lagoon, which is known for its emerald waters and limestone ridges, Secret Lagoon, a hidden pool inside a limestone cliff and Shimizu Island, a place known for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Another way to discover El Nido is to hike up the Taraw Cliff. The guided hike traverses up a limestone cliff and the top offers a breathtaking 360 degree view of the entire town and the surrounding islands. The short, half an hour hike sounds misleadingly easy, but the humidity and sharp rocks make the climb challenging. However, the fruits of effort are sweet, and the Taraw cliff hike surely proves it.

One cannot talk about treks in the Philippines without mentioning the Mount Daraitan trek, located in the Rizal province of Luzon. Suited for moderate to experienced trekkers, the route can be traversed within a day. The path uphill is extremely scenic, with verdant trees lining the roads and concealing diverse wildlife.

Old caves that are great for spelunking also dot the route, and trekkers are welcome to make stops at them. The view of the Sierra Madre range from the viewpoint at the top is overwhelmingly magnificent.

Vigan, also located on the Luzon Island, takes one back in time to when the Philippines was a Spanish colony. Horse drawn carriages called Kalesa are the transport of choice in the famous cobbled street of Calle Crisologo, where tourists can pick up souvenirs. Blossoming balconies overlook the streets of the town and with the pretty fountains scattered throughout, Vigan is truly charming.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Vigan is considered to be the best planned and preserved Spanish town in Asia. The baroque styled Saint Paul Metropolitan Cathedral is another landmark of the town.

The island nation packs a range of experiences for tourists, and the diversity of activities offered ensures that every interest and taste is catered to.

Most trips to the Philippines packages start with a day or two spent on sightseeing tours of the teeming mega city, discovering Filipino culture, history and gastronomy. The old part of the city is largely found in a section called Intramuros, and it is here that visitors can learn about the history of the country. Fort Santiago, for example, is as old as the city itself, and has beautiful gardens and ancient structures. A museum commemorating Jose Rizal, a national hero, stands within the complex. Manila is also a great place to try out local dishes. Korean and Japanese restaurants are popular in the city too, and are well loved by tourists and locals alike.

The island of Cebu is a tropical delight, with azure waters and shores of palm lined white sands. However, it is best known for the activities it offers- Cebu has world class diving and snorkeling, and spotting thresher sharks, hammerhead sharks, sea turtles and whale sharks is not rare here. Cebu is also known for its treks, and its hills are the home for a diverse range of wildlife. The star of wildlife treks is the reclusive Tarsier, a nocturnal primate, and they can be spotted clinging to trees with their bulbous eyes shining brightly. Cebu also has mesmerizing waterfalls, and Kawasan Falls is the most popular. The plunge pool formed here is bright blue, and is known for activities like waterfall jumping, canyoning and rappelling.

Coron, in the Palawan area of the Philippines, is best known for its spectacular dives around World War II wrecks. Much like El Nido, the island has limestone karsts and spotless sandy beaches overlooking blue green water, but it is also less crowded. Coron’s many heavenly lagoons and incredibly vibrant and diverse coral reefs make it unforgettable.

Bohol’s Chocolate Hills are the favourite of those interested in geology. The hills are shaped like Hershey’s kisses, and they turn brown in the summer as the vegetation dries out, giving them a chocolaty colour and, hence, the name. There are a lot of local legends surrounding the hills, and they are all interesting to know. Sagbayan Peak offers the best 360 degree view of the hills.

The underground river is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a national landmark. Stunning cave formations and limestone karsts surround the river, and a number of endemic species including bats, swallows, fish and crabs call the river and the caves their home. There are tours run to help tourists discover the portion of the river that is open to visitors.

The 2000 year old rice terraces of Batad are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The steps on which the paddy is grown was carved out almost entirely by hand ages ago, and till date the ancient irrigation system feeds the crop. The lush green fields are a sight for sore eyes and hikes across the terraces are a special favourite of landscape photographers.

About The Philippines

The history of the island country of the Philippines goes back at least 709,000 years ago. Evidence of a species of archaic humans was found in the country about 134,000 years ago, and they were known as Homo luzonensis. In the prehistoric Philippines, the first inhabitants were noted to be the Negrito groups, after which followed the Austroasiatics, Papuans, and South Asians.

The social and ethnic groups eventually grew into various settlements with different degrees of political organisation, social stratification, and economic specialisation. Spanish rule began in the archipelago in 1565, leading to the creation of the first unified political structure now known as the Philippines. It ended in 1898 with the Spanish–American War. The development of the independent Philippine Republic took place in 1946.

Essential Tips To Know Before Travelling To The Philippines

  • The Philippines is hot and humid, so remember to pack light and loose-fitting clothes so you don’t sweat throughout the day. Also, remember to pack hats, sunglasses, and water bottles in your luggage, and remember to stay hydrated while sightseeing. Consume plenty of water and seek shade occasionally to avoid dehydration. Also, keep some mosquito repellant with you to stay protected from mosquito bites.
  • Bring change wherever you go, especially when travelling to smaller provinces or islands. This will be particularly useful when shopping at the local sari-sari stores and hopping on public transport.
  • Although learning a few local words and phrases is always polite, it’s essential to know that almost everyone speaks English in the Philippines. This makes it infinitely easier to navigate the country, and the bilingual education provided in the schools proves useful to tourists looking to explore the island country.
  • Not all the toilets in the Philippines have toilet paper. Some have them displayed outside the stalls. Therefore, carry some in your bag before going into a public washroom.
  • Using local transportation systems is the easiest way to explore the Philippines as they are accessible and cheap.
  • The servers in the Philippines usually earn minimum wage. Therefore, it’s polite to tip your servers at restaurants, spas, salons, or anywhere else. 10-15% of your final bill should suffice.

Best Time To Visit The Philippines

While looking at our fabulous Philippines tour packages, you will probably wonder when the best time is to visit the country. The period between December and February is usually considered the ideal time to visit this archipelagic country. This is when the country witnesses its lowest rainfall, and the islands and remote areas are easily accessible.

The weather during this period is appropriate for both trekking and sightseeing. The Philippines’ weather can be divided into the cool-dry season, the hot-dry season, and the rainy season. Even within the dry season, there is a particular month to pick from based on your preference since December and January are slightly lower in temperature than March and April. Before booking one of our Philippines tour packages, peruse the information below to find out what each season brings to the island country of the Philippines.

Cool-Dry Season In The Philippines (November To February)

The temperature during the cool-dry season of the Philippines usually remains between 24 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius. This is when the sun appears after the rainy days, and the humidity level decreases. The northern region feels the coldest at this time, and January brings pleasant weather and cool temperatures. Although February sees a rise in temperature, the ambience remains pleasant.

If you wish to see the Philippines decorated in the glory of festivals, this is the time to visit. During the cool-dry season, an almost endless array of festivities are lined up. These include the Grand Cordillera Festival, Feast of San Clemente, Panagbega, Pamulinawen Festival, and Suman Festival. Since December to April is the peak season in the Philippines, grab our Philippines tour packages as early as possible so we can make the best travel arrangements for you.

Hot-Dry Season In The Philippines (March To May)

During the hot-dry season, the temperature in the Philippines usually stays between 25 degrees and 33 degrees Celsius. The weather gets warmer at this time, with the coastal regions bringing some relief from the heat owing to the pleasant sea breeze. April is hotter than March, giving way to sunny days and bluer skies.

The hot-dry season brings about many festivals and celebrations in the Philippines, such as the Moriones Festival, Boracay International Dragon Boat Festival, and Turumba Festival.

Rainy Season In The Philippines (June To October)

As the rainy season engulfs the Philippines, the temperature fluctuates between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius. Starting from the northern region of the country, the rains eventually make their way to the southern part, with September regarded as the wettest month of the year.

The rains ensure that the country blooms with lush greenery at this time, turning the Philippines into a lush wonderland for the travellers to awe at. The festivals to look forward to in the Philippines during the rainy season include Independence Day, Sandugo Festival, and Kadayawan Festival.

Celosia Flower Farm

Popularly known as the ‘Little Amsterdam’ in Cebu, the Celosia Flower Farm is where you can witness the celosia flowers bloom in all their glory.

Chocolate Hills

Situated in the Philippines’ Bohol province, the Chocolate Hills are made up of at least 1,260 hills, with about 1,776 hills present over an area that spans more than 50 square kilometres. These hills are named this way because the green grass that covers the mountain transforms into a chocolate-brown hue when the dry season arrives in the island country. It’s among the most popular tourist attractions in Bohol and is also the only UNESCO Global Geopark in the Philippines. On 18th June 1988, the country’s 3rd National Geological Monument was declared.

Things To Do For Adventure Lovers

Whether you are a newbie or an experienced hiker, the Philippines covers your hiking dreams. Benguet’s Mount Pulag, the third-highest peak in the country, is a beloved hiking destination that offers a spellbinding view of the clouds you will remember for decades.

Be it shopping malls or local stores, there is an abundance of spots to shop in the Philippines, satiating your cravings for modern and traditional items that you will cherish for decades.

Listed below are some of the items you must look into during your vacation and some of the best places to shop them from:

What To Buy

Filipino pearls.

Given that the Philippines is engulfed by the sea from all sides, it doesn’t surprise that golden and white pearls are some of the country’s most loved souvenirs to carry.

Extracted from the deep corners of the sea, Filipino pearls are among the best you will ever come across. You can choose from necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, and so much more, available in various sizes, shapes, and colours.

Dried Mangoes

You have probably had mangoes before, but have you tried dried ones? If you haven’t, you should try the ones available in the Philippines and pack plenty for yourself and your loved ones back home so they can taste this Filipino delicacy. Delicious and tangy, these irresistible snacks are delightfully chewy without being dry.

Wooden Handicrafts

The Philippines is gifted with skilled artisans who create a wide variety of wooden handicrafts, which are especially popular in the Province of Quezon, situated in the Calabarzon region.

You can find wooden handicrafts of various types in the country, such as boxes, lampshades, bowls, spoons, décor items, and little trinkets. There are also adorable wooden models of shoes, fish, coconut trees, and barrel man that you can grab to keep on display at your home.

Coffee Beans

Do you know that the Philippines is among the few countries producing the four main coffee varieties: Arabica, Excelsa, Robusta, and Liberica? Did learning that information just make your coffee-loving heart do a little happy dance? You’re in for a treat because you can pack fresh, high-quality coffee beans for yourself and your family.

These coffee beans have a sufficiently long shelf life and are not too heavy, making them convenient for packing in luggage.

You have probably seen pictures of the locals of the Philippines donning conical hats, which are known as salakot in the country. These hats protect your face, neck, and head from the sun and serve as unique souvenirs. Lightweight and affordable, they can be used to shield yourself from the heat when you’re out for a picnic or even while working outdoors.

Let us tell you about yet another souvenir that will help you get some relief from the hot and sultry weather the country usually witnesses: handheld fans, which are locally called abaniko or pamaypay.

Available in both foldable and non-foldable versions, simple fans are made from anahaw or buri leaves, and the exquisite kind is created using silk tassels. People often carry these fans to weddings and other social occasions, and they are also part of the country’s women’s traditional dress.

Ube Halaya (Purple Yam Jam)

Ube halaya, also known as purple yam jam in the Philippines, is exactly what it sounds like and delivers just what it promises: a burst of unique sweetness in your mouth. Ube refers to a purple yam that is first boiled and then mashed before being used in numerous sweet dishes in the Philippines.

When you bring this jam to your country, spread it generously over breads, muffins, pies, cakes, croissants, and other items you choose and consume to your heart’s content.

Fabrics And Textiles

The Philippines manufactures some original fabrics that are both natural and gorgeous and can be carried back home from your holiday.

Pina, for example, is a traditional Philippine fibre created using pineapple plant leaves. Batik material is also available in numerous colourful designs. You can buy these fabrics in the form of clothes, wallets, towels, and bags.

Things To Remember When Shopping In Vietnam

When you buy a souvenir from the Philippines, you get to contribute to their local economy and show your support to the local entrepreneurs and artisans. Several of the products you bring home are made by skilled workers who often come from small communities. Therefore, by purchasing from them, you get to promote the country’s cultural heritage and preserve their traditional craftsmanship, but you also help sustain the livelihoods of the local workers.

Shopping sustainably and responsibly isn’t just something we should do when shopping wherever we live. It’s a point to keep in mind even when we’re shopping on a holiday, and this applies when you shop for anything in the Philippines, as well as with our Philippines tour packages. When you purchase local souvenirs from the Philippines, you contribute to sustainable tourism. Make sure to pick products created from natural materials to preserve the environment and the country’s traditional practices.

The local souvenirs in the Philippines set themselves apart through their intricate craftsmanship and handwoven beauty. They give you a glimpse of the country’s rich heritage, which is why you should get these items for yourself and your loved ones who prefer collecting souvenirs from all over the world.

Foods To Try Out In The Philippines

If you’re travelling to the Philippines, you probably hope to find a mix of sweet, spicy, and savoury dishes. The good news is that the country will not disappoint you. Tagged as the next big thing to watch out for in the culinary world, Filipino cuisine displays various influences throughout its rich history.

The food in the Philippines is influenced by other Asian countries, such as China, Japan, Vietnam, and Thailand, yet it maintains its distinct and unique elements. Our Philippines tour packages allow you to experience all their lip-smacking dishes as you explore the country. Let us explore the various combinations of flavours and traditional cooking techniques you can taste while you’re in the Philippines.

Lumpia is the Filipino version of spring rolls. It is often served as an appetiser for celebrations, gatherings, and sit-down family meals. Its outer coating resembles a thin paper-like crepe, and it is usually deep-fried until it transforms into a crispy and hot snack.

The inner contents of lumpia include carrots, onions, cabbage, pork, dried fruits, and other vegetables. To add a touch of sweetness, you can dip the rolls in banana ketchup or a vinegar-based dipping sauce.

Adobo is often regarded as the national dish of the Philippines, and it’s among those integral parts of Filipino cuisine that you must try during your trip when you book our Philippines tour packages. It is a dish and a cooking method wherein the vegetables or meats (usually chicken or pork) are marinated in a brine of vinegar, salt, pepper, soy sauce, garlic, bay leaves, and black peppercorn. The name of the dish has a Spanish origin. It comes from ‘adobar’, the meaning of which is to marinate.

For those genuinely looking to go wild with their culinary experience in the Philippines, balut is a dish you might want to check out. It’s undoubtedly not for the faint-hearted. The dish consists of a boiled egg containing a semi-developed duck embryo that is incubated for 14 to 21 days. After that, it is boiled and then eaten directly from the shell. Although it may not sound too appetising to everyone, it tastes better than its description.

To eat balut, you first need to crack open and peel the top of the eggshell. Once you sip out the liquids, you can add the seasonings of your choice and eat the contents directly from the shell.

Sinigang is yet another integral part of Filipino cuisine. It’s a stew or soup that distinguishes itself through its mix of savoury and sweet flavours. Like many other dishes in the Philippines, singing refers to both the dish and the cooking method.

The tamarind-based dish is filled with acidic fruits that enhance its taste, such as santol, kamias, batuan, and guava. This sour stew consists of either beef, fish, shrimp, or pork and numerous vegetables, including onions, tomatoes, green beans, okra, eggplant, water spinach, and white radish.

Halo-halo, literally translating into ‘mix mix’ in Tagalog, is one of the most internationally recognised Filipino desserts. The dish’s presentation and taste vary across the island country. It contains milk, legumes, gels, crushed ice, and sweetened fruits. Certain versions can also contain sweetened beans, coconut strips, kaong, leche flan, and macapuno or coconut sport.

An interesting bit about this dish is that it is often served in a tall parfait glass, so you can see the multiple colourful layers of deliciousness you’re about to consume.

Sisig is an appetiser usually served when people gather to drink alcohol, but it can also be served along with rice or other Filipino food. It’s a minced meat dish usually made using pork and chicken liver, but numerous other versions exist today that contain ingredients such as ostrich, eggs, squid, tuna, and mussels.

The dish originated in the Pampanga province, where a restaurant owner invented it. The first sisig was made from grilled pig’s face and ears, combined with liver paste, chopped onions, chilli peppers, and cooked liver.

Lechon translates to ‘roasted piglet’ and is a dish that appears at most celebrations and significant events in the Philippines. However, the dish isn’t made with a piglet but is instead created using a fully-grown pig, first seasoned lightly before being roasted whole.

Once the pig is stuffed with spices and herbs like garlic, onions, and lemongrass, it is roasted slowly over charcoal for hours until its outer appearance turns reddish brown. A fun fact to note is that when Anthony Bourdain, the internationally renowned American chef, tasted lechon, he exclaimed, “It’s the best pig ever!”

Chicharon, which originated in Spain, is a savoury snack or appetiser in the Philippines. Although it is commonly made using crispy fried pork belly, there are variations of the dish made using beef or chicken. It’s among those snacking dishes alongside beer and other beverages. The country’s restaurants often serve chicharon along with vinegar to add a bit of sourness to the concoction.

Pancit refers to traditional Filipino noodle dishes in various types, shapes, and sizes. Majorly influenced by Chinese culture, pancit dishes have become an important part of Filipino celebrations, including birthdays and holidays. Although the dish is quite filling, it is usually served alongside rice or other dishes, with both the soupy and dry versions being quite popular.

Art And Culture In The Philippines

Certain values are of extreme importance to the people of the Philippines, such as kindness, optimism, spirituality, and friendliness. Societal obligations and relationships often form the base of Filipino values, which firmly believe in group and societal acceptance. Children are taught to be respectful from a very young age, which also entails greeting everyone with titles of respect. Treating elders with respect is a part of the value system of Filipinos, such as accepting their blessings through the gesture of mano, which is when young people touch the back of an older person’s hand to their forehead.

Christianity is the majority faith in the Philippines, and 90% of the country’s population is Christian. Islam and other indigenous faiths are also present.

Customs and traditions

Cockfighting is a well-established and popular Sunday tradition throughout the Philippines. Another tradition that is quite commonly seen across the country is street parades. Every celebration has parades, populated with dance, music, designed floats, and delicious local cuisine.

Numerous elements form part of the arts and culture scene in the Philippines, including literature, painting, theatre, dance, and music. Folk music and dances remain a part of the country’s culture even today.

Philippines Tour Packages

Compare philippines tours & packages from top travel agents, places to visit in the philippines .

  • Boracay: The little island of Boracay is well-known for its beautiful, white sandy coastlines and clear blue waters. One can relax on the beach or indulge in swimming, snorkeling, and other water sports.
  • Palawan: El Nido is the main tourist destination in Palawan. While traveling to the Bacuit islands, one can stop at this breathtaking site in the coral-green ocean waters. Straight, steep limestone cliffs rise directly from the sea. In addition, Palawan has a Butterfly Eco Garden, a Tribal Village, a Heritage Centre, a Museum, and several beaches.
  • Puerto Princesa: The capital of Palawan, is the second most popular vacation spot in the province, after El Nido. Puerto Princesa, the greenest and cleanest city in the Philippines, offers a comfortable urban setting wrapped in beautiful natural surroundings that include wonderful beaches and fantastic forested hills. The place is home to the famous Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. This park is admired for the subterranean river that flows beneath the island. It also contains spectacular underground caves and limestone karst landscapes and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was even named one of the World's New Seven Wonders!
  • Bohol: The island of Bohol is famous for its Chocolate Hills, a geological wonder that bears an eerie likeness to the chocolate delicacy. The Tarsier Sanctuary is another notable attraction on this exotic vacation because it allows guests to see and interact with primates that are the smallest among all known primate species.
  • Manila: Another must-see spot when doing a Philippines tour. The modern metropolis of Manila is filled with gleaming skyscrapers, parks, shopping centers, hotels, and other symbols of the contemporary concrete world. The city is tidy and well-planned, making travelers feel at home there. One of the benefits of visiting the Philippines is its heartwarming people, and Manila is where you will discover the best instances of this.
  • Cebu: Cebu is a cluster of around 150 small and large islands in the Philippines' Central Visayas Region. The beaches here are lovely, and plenty of activities keep you entertained. As you travel the numerous islands, you will notice wonderful buildings and historical sites like Magellan's Cross and the Basilica del Santo Niño. Unsurprisingly, Cebu is one of the most popular destinations for most Philippines tour packages.
  • Siargao: Siargao rose to prominence after being named not just any ordinary island but "The Best Island in the World" by Condé Nast readers in 2018. Also, this destination has a legendary reputation for being the surfing capital of the Philippines, which is well-known among many. Many people have fallen in love with this picturesque setting. The most interesting feature is arguably Sohoton Cove's lovely lagoons, a natural beauty well worth the extra 120-minute travel from Cloud 9 surfing beach.
  • Balabac: A Philippines island off the coast of Palawan is Balabac. It features a distinct environment supporting a diverse range of flora and wildlife, some exclusively found on the island. Its pure surroundings, crystal clear waters, and bright coral reefs make it a great location for nature enthusiasts and adventurers.
  • Sagada: A small mountain town, Sagada in the Philippines is recognized for its stunning natural beauty and distinct culture. It is located in Mountain Province and has some of the most beautiful views in the country. From breathtaking mountains to tranquil valleys, it certainly has something for every traveler making their way here. The town also has a range of activities and sights, making it a great destination for visitors wishing to enjoy nature's treasures.

Things to do in the Philippines

  • Explore the world of Filipino cuisine:  Dive deep into Filipino cuisine's intricate thread - a superb combination of Chinese, Spanish, and Malay influences. Indulge in some classic dishes like adobo with its acidic soy-based marinade, lechon with crispy skin grilled to perfection, or sinigang with its sour tamarind soup base and savory meats to start your culinary adventure.
  • Island hopping is a must: It’s evident by now that the Philippines has many islands, so why not satisfy your desire by visiting a few? You may take a boat trip and see several isles, each with its special allure.
  • Visit a nearby market: Traditional markets in the Philippines are a wonderful way to immerse oneself in native traditions and purchase one-of-a-kind souvenirs. These bazaars may sell anything from freshly farmed food to artistically created souvenirs.
  • Explore the depths of the Philippines' waters: The Philippine archipelago has some of the world's best underwater exploration and observation places. Notable sights could include extraordinarily colorful coral reefs, intriguing fish species, and the ruins of ships that once traveled through these seas.
  • Attend local festivals: To experience the essence of any location, you must immerse yourself in its customs. Do so by enjoying the colorful and vivid cultural festivals throughout the year in the Philippines. The Sinulog Festival in Cebu, held in January, is one of the country's most popular celebrations. The day pays homage to the Santo Nio, Cebu's patron saint, and includes street festivities, parades, and dancing.
  • Go for a hike: The country is famous for its mountains, waterfalls, caverns, and beaches. Mount Pulag is the highest mountain in Luzon and is a renowned hiking destination. You may also explore the spectacular limestone caves and rock formations of Palawan's Underground River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Visit historical places: Known for its long history and a wealth of historical sites to explore. history geeks should not miss a trip to Manila's walled city of Intramuros. The Spanish built this walled city in the 16th century, and it's a terrific spot to learn about the nation's colonial past. The oldest rice terraces in the world - the Banaue Rice Terraces, are among the other historical attractions.

The Culture

The Philippines unfolds as a captivating cultural tapestry, seamlessly weaving together a myriad of influences that have shaped the nation's identity. With a history marked by indigenous traditions, Spanish colonial heritage, and contemporary innovation, this archipelago offers an exhilarating journey through time and culture.

One of the most vibrant expressions of Filipino culture can be witnessed at the Sinulog Festival in Cebu, where the streets come alive in a rhythmic kaleidoscope of colours and dances. Likewise, the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio paints the town in the hues of spring, celebrating the season's bloom with an explosion of vibrant flora.

At the core of Filipino culture is the concept of "Bayanihan," a spirit of communal unity. Neighbours coming together to help one another isn't just a saying; it's a way of life that welcomes visitors as a family from the moment they set foot in the country.

Religion plays a profound role in Filipino life. The architectural marvels of churches like Manila's Quiapo Church and the UNESCO-listed Paoay Church in Ilocos Norte narrate stories of deep spirituality and historical grandeur. It's a testament to the deep-seated faith and artistic expression that characterizes the Filipino way of life.

The culinary journey in the Philippines is an adventure for the senses. From savouring the tangy delight of adobo to the comforting embrace of sinigang, each dish narrates a unique culinary story. The act of sharing meals is more than just dining; it's a reflection of the heart of Filipino hospitality, an experience that forges connections and leaves lasting memories.

In the Philippines, you're not a mere observer; you're an integral part of a cultural symphony. Your journey here is infused with warmth, joy, and creativity, leaving an indelible imprint on your heart, etching the cultural richness of this nation into your very soul.

The Best Time to Visit

Dry Season Delights (November - April):

For most travellers, the dry season, spanning from November to April, is the prime time to explore the Philippines. During these months, the weather is consistently pleasant, with clear skies and minimal rainfall. This is when the islands truly shine, offering endless opportunities for beach lovers, water sports enthusiasts, and island-hopping adventurers. The sea is at its calmest and clearest, making it an ideal period for diving and snorkelling. Whether you're unwinding on the powdery sands of Boracay, exploring the limestone formations of Palawan, or immersing in the vibrant culture of Manila, this season presents the perfect backdrop for your tropical escape.

The Rainy Season Revelation (June - October):

While the rainy season, from June to October, might deter some, it brings its own unique charm to the Philippines. The monsoon rains rejuvenate the landscapes, painting them in lush, vibrant greens. The occasional tropical downpour can be intense, but it's usually short-lived, followed by bursts of sunshine. This is the season when nature is at its peak, and the rice terraces in Banaue glisten with fresh, green growth. It's also the best time for surfers, as the waves reach their zenith along the coasts of Siargao and Baler. If you don't mind the sporadic rain and prefer cooler, more refreshing weather, you'll find the rainy season surprisingly enchanting.

Shoulder Months (May and November):

The shoulder months, May and November, offer a compromise between the dry and rainy seasons. While there might be fewer crowds and prices are often more budget-friendly, the weather can be a bit unpredictable. If you're flexible with your plans and keen to explore the Philippines without the peak-season hustle, these months can be ideal for your visit.

Things to Know

1. Haggling: Bargaining is a common practice in local markets, so don't hesitate to negotiate prices, especially in street markets and with tricycle or jeepney drivers.

2. Safety: While the Philippines is generally safe for tourists, it's essential to stay aware of your surroundings, avoid displaying valuable items, and be cautious in crowded places.

3. Island Time: The pace of life in the Philippines is relaxed, so don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the slower, more leisurely approach to daily activities.

4. Transportation: The Philippines has a range of transportation options, including jeepneys, tricycles, and ferries. Familiarize yourself with local transportation to get around efficiently.

5. Respect Local Customs: Filipinos are warm and friendly people. Show respect by covering up when visiting religious sites, taking off your shoes before entering someone's home, and addressing people with "sir" or "ma'am."

6. Language: Brush up on your Tagalog to be able to get better deals while bargaining and have a nicer experience with the locals.

Food & Drink

Prepare to embark on a culinary journey through the Philippines, where every dish tells a story deeply rooted in history and culture. The national favourite, adobo, is a tantalizing blend of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and spices, creating a perfect balance of salty, tangy, and savoury flavours.

Sinigang, a tangy tamarind-based soup, offers a refreshing interplay of sourness and zest, featuring an array of vegetables and meats, making it an ideal comfort food. For the adventurous, there's Balut, a mature egg-based street food delicacy, presenting a unique blend of textures and flavours, often accompanied by salt and vinegar.

Don't miss the crispy delight of Lechon, a whole roasted pig with perfectly crispy skin and tender, succulent meat. As you explore markets and streets, you'll encounter the beloved dessert Halo-Halo. It's a delightful mix of crushed ice, sweet preserves, fruits, and purple yam ice cream. To complement your meal or simply savour on its own, there's San Miguel Beer, the nation's iconic brew.

This culinary adventure is more than just dining. It's an immersion into a rich and vibrant tradition that celebrates life, community, and the exquisite flavours that define the Philippines. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds and let the culinary magic of the Philippines sweep you into a gastronomic journey like no other.

Things to do on your Philippines Tour Package

The country has an island to suit every taste. With Philippines travel packages that we offer at Pickyourtrail, make your long-lived island-hop on and hop off dream come true and check off that long pending item from your bucket list. Here are some island's you can't resist on your Philippines package.

Palawan Island - An island packed with exotic wildlife, old fashioned fishing villages, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Palawan is a slice of heaven. Take a guided boat tour on your Philippines tour through the island's wildlife, jungle mountains, and beautiful beaches and get blown away by its beauty on your Palawan tour package.

Boracay Island - Spend an entire day cliff diving and indulging in watersports at Aerial Point and conquer your fear of heights, relax and rejuvenate in the powder-soft sand & crystal blue waters of White beach, go for parasailing & ziplining, & turn strangers into friends going on a Boracay Pub crawl on your Philippines packages.

Cebu - It is one of the Philippines's most developed islands and offers some of the best natural attractions, one of which is the Kawasan Falls. After a canyoneering tour through the Filipino jungle, reach the main waterfalls and enjoy a good swim in its turquoise waters on your Cebu tour package. Also enjoy a hike for a breath-taking view of the sunrise at the mountain range, Osmena Peak and click those million-dollar selfies for your Instagram account.

Bohol - It is 10th largest Filipino island comprising of pristine white sand beaches, lush green forests, and unbelievable underwater life. Although in comparison with other islands Bohol lags behind; its closeness to nature gives it a unique charm. Witness Chocolate hills, that arrived its name from highly unnatural looking dome-shaped mounds covered with grass that dry up in summer and become brown giving it the name it bores on your Bohol tour package.

Places to visit on your trip to Philippines

Tubbataha Reef diving dares, Mayon Volcano’s magnificent beauty, Bohol’s unique Chocolate Hills are some of what the Philippines has to offer. Philippines tour packages should include some wonderful vacation spots and here is a traveller’s guide to skim through for easy Philippines packages planning.

Tier upon tier of tremendous Rice Terraces: Possibly the best place to lay eyes on a trip to Philippines, the Banaue Rice Terraces are dubbed a magnum opus in the Philippine province of Ifugao and they stand tall in their splendour true to the title. Place bets against tearing your eyes from this mammoth of a tremendous landmark, which is an incredible feat to have accomplished by hand-constructing steps to a raging 5000 feet into heaven on sides of the mountains on your Philippines tour packages.

Revel in the wonderful spread of Banaue’s rice paddies along with sweeping fields at Batad, Kiangan, and Hungduan. The road up to the Banaue Rice terraces is streaked with viewpoints which also has a few indigenous Ifugao and Bontoc women donned in traditional wear who are ready for some selfies with admirers of the location.

A little hidden gem in the locality is the 200-feet Tappiya Falls cascading down the gorge and into the must-see category.

Breathe out worries at the Batanes Islands: Such attractive cultures backed with breathtaking landscapes, the Sabtang, Batan and Itbayat inhibited islands slip right into any Philippines travel package.

Skip to the striking beaches of the land to lounge and bask in the sun. Atypical from other Philippine white beaches, the boulders carpeted Chadpidan Beach may not be the ideal spot for a sunbathing but it’s overlooking the west making it the best spot to catch a famously spectacular Batan sunset on your Philippines tour packages, whereas the similar Valugan Beach is the east-facing cousin bathed in stunning sunrises. Sabtang Island is home to a seaside wonder of picturesque foliage-covered limestone arch catching sunsets and hearts across the warm sandy Nakabuang or Morang Beach.

Rolling green hills of the Batanes Islands look right out of the ‘Sound of Music’ movie highlighted best in the Vayang Rolling Hills, the Naidi Hills and the Mahatao Hills, all located in Baten Islands making it a serene paradise that raptures travellers to rest and rejuvenate the wanderlust.

Pleasing Palawan province: Busy and popular is the destination celebrating tourism in Palawan, it is the El Nido municipality, easily the best place for a laidback Philippines tour. Already popular for off-shore islands covered with limestone cliffs overseeing hidden lagoons, the sea-nery is remarkable and is celebrated as one of the most picturesque water views in the world.

Ferry yourself to the peaceful Coron, just as charming as El Nido but strewn with even more terrific underwater views. I would recommend choosing Coron for its other-worldly shipwreck diving, seabeds draped with corals paving way for the perfect snorkelling event to flip your Philippines packages into an extraordinary one. The best spot to snorkel is at the Twin Lagoon, famous for the mix of fresh and salt waters, is worth squeezing through crevices from one lagoon to another and ending in an enticing deep dive snorkelling.

Puerto Princesa Underground River winds down a span of five-miles through caves of limestone karst, best traversed by cruising in guided navigation, sprinkled with fascinating facts about the National Park, and is a popular shoo-in into any Philippines tour packages. Classed as one of the New7Wonders of Nature is this incredible, naturally formed UNESCO world heritage site.

Tropical palm trees? Check. White sand beaches? Check. Crystal clear turquoise waters? Check. Boracay Islands is an ideal paradisiacal island strewn with beaches that are so arresting in their beauty that a trip to the Philippines would be incomplete without a visit to Boracay. White Beach is arguably the most beautiful and frequented but Diniwid Beach, Ilig-Iligan Beach or the Puka Shell Beach cannot be missed on your Philippines tour packages. Boracay’s nightlife isn’t what it used to be due to the negative impact of tourism but the indoor parties still rage on in full effect.

As the saying goes, take only photos and leave only footprints to protect these incredible landmarks and attractions of pretty Philippines. This archipelago’s admirable beauty can be explored to the full extent with Pickyourtrail’s optimisable Philippines travel packages. Say goodbye to worries and say hello to fantastic Filipino venture.

Best time to visit Philippines

Philippines is best to visit during the dry season. The best time to go ahead with Philippines tour packages is between November - April when the temperatures are cooler and all the islands and the remote areas are fully accessible.

Manila: The Pearl of the Orient You’ll likely begin your Philippines tour in the capital, Manila -a bustling metropolitan with happy Filipinos, insightful museums, parks, Spanish colonial architecture, street vendors and hyper-malls, colourful Jeepneys hopping around and a plethora of restaurants to choose from. From serving as the centre of culture and economy to being a busy mass of energy and industry, there are plenty of reasons which give this national capital the tag of “ the Pearl of the Orient ”. Most of the travellers choose Manila simply as a gateway to other destinations in the Philippines including the famed beaches. However, it is highly recommended to spend your quality days in this thriving capital to soak in all the fun and vibrancy here before you surrender yourself to the calmer side of the Philippines. Manila is also a great place to fill your stomach, from street vendors to restaurants that serve iconic Pinoy dishes and street food markets like the Legazpi Sunday Market, Quiapo Market and the country’s very own Chinatown, Binondo. Do not forget to experience the sunset by Manila Bay and visit the ‘walled city’ of Intramuros. You won’t regret any of it!

2. Boracay Island: the postcard-perfect island paradise like no other! While no single place sums up all the Pacific archipelago has to offer, Boracay comes close, making itself a smart choice for a matchless Philippines experience. This small island in the central Philippines has its beach paths typically awash with tourists making it the top tourist draw of the country and for several good reasons. Showing off its crystal-white beaches, dazzling coves and all types of water adventures, the island’s compact size, deluxe resorts and restaurants, Boracay inspires nothing but serious exploration.   True to the fact that in Boracay, you'll never run out of exciting things to do, you have the opportunity to enjoy activities like island-hopping, diving, snorkelling, parasailing, kayaking and several dining options. Out of more than a dozen beaches in Boracay, none is more famous than the White Beach, a 4 km slice of heaven which takes centre stage as the best beach in the world. At the northern edge of White Beach, follow the cliff-bottom footpath to Diniwid which is a bit of a hidden treasure, also known for great sunset sightings. Bulabog Beach is a short walk from White Beach and another busy spot, as it’s the island’s main windsurfing and kiteboarding area. To pump up the adrenaline, hop off to the nearby Carabao Island where you can go cliff jumping into the sea and swim in submerged caverns. You can even go snorkelling where you swim along with the parrotfish, pufferfish and the other brilliant aquatic life found around Crocodile Island or just dance the night away around the fire and live music making your feet thump to the beats. Well, we can go on writing about the wide portfolio of Boracay’s attractions but nothing like experiencing it in person. A vacation spent here is all about lounging outside or playing in the water, so make sure you let your hair down, unwind completely and relish the very essence of the Boracay vibes. 3. Cebu: combining the comforts of beach and city life Perched on the island in the Visayas region, Cebu is the country’s second-biggest city and also the oldest. Cebu province features no less than 168 islands and islets and it, therefore, comes as no surprise that it is a prime beach holiday destination and most of the attractions drift towards the experience that surrounds ‘sun, sand and sea’. While the city fulfils all the requirements of an island paradise, it also combines all the conveniences of a modern metropolis where you can expect an active city, surrounded by shiny skyscrapers, high energy and a friendly vibe. Undoubtedly, Cebu’s long stretches of white beaches fringed with coconut palms bestow a paradise island feel to the city while the pre-historic streets of Colon nearby Ayala Mall add to the vibe of a thriving metropolis. If you are a person who loves to dive in adventure, you can choose to go swimming with giant whale sharks in Oslob, go freediving in Moalboal, explore the most famous Kawasan Falls which is one of the most fantastic adventures or dive with thresher sharks in Malapascua. If you are a city explorer, head to the historical landmarks and religious sites, an array of Cebu’s gratifying restaurants or even try the street food that offers a mouth-watering mix of Chinese-inspired dishes and local Filipino staples. For the brave and willing eaters, Cebu is home to some of the most exotic dishes like bakasi (salt-water eels) and tuslob buwa (pig brains) that are sure to add spice and thrill to your holiday in this warm and comforting area of the Philippines.

4. Siargao: More than the ‘Surfing Capital of Philippines’ Once a well-kept secret in surfing circles, the island of Siargao has now slowly found its way up as one of the most beautiful islands and also the most sought-after destination in the world . This teardrop-shaped tiny island located at the northeastern coast of Mindanao is also known as the ‘ Surfing Capital of the Philippines ’ given that it is home to world-class surf spots, sparkling white sand islets, turquoise tide pools and palm tree-laden lagoons are just within meters of each other. Cloud 9, one of the surfing spots in Siargao, is the reason why it came to the radar of international travellers. But what adds to the excitement for even the non-surfers is that all these and more activities are within the vicinity of newly opened resorts and restaurants.   Ever since Siargao and its exceptionally laid back vibe has started to explode onto the traveller scene, the island has become quite popular due to its great snorkelling options, island hopping excursions including the delicious food that is too good to be ignored. While the triple island tour to Guyam Island, Daku Island and Naked Island is worth blocking off your entire day for, the surf spots at General Luna are well worth the journey. Looking for an ultimate fun island experience, then Sugba Lagoon at Del Carmen will have you covered. There are plenty of caves to go to in Siargao as well. Look for Sohoton Cove, Hagukan Cave, Magkukuob Cave, Balitas Cave and the Crystal Cave for a challenging and exciting experience bundled for your fun trip to Siargao.   Bookmark the island of Siargao on your next Philippines tour , tell us the travel dates and leave the rest of your trip on us! 5. Palawan: a tropical chunk of heaven on earth Palawan is one of the country's wealthiest provinces in terms of biodiversity and that is justified by its beautifully drawn out powdered beaches and towering limestone formations that are unlike any other. It is the home to both the main highlights- Tubbataha Reef and the breathtaking Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park which are also UNESCO World Heritage sites. Azure waters, wind-swept shoreline, swaying palm trees, crystal white beaches, limestone rocks, lush jungles, rich aquatic life calling the colourful reefs their home and tiny uninhabited islands surrounding the province- Palawan has every ingredient that constitutes a perfect tropical getaway. Suffice to say that Palawan trips are unequalled to any in the country and wherever you go, you won't run out of things to do. Either you start your morning with a boat trip along a lagoon where you swim with turtles and manta rays, kayak above the corals, eat fresh fish on a little known island, make your way to Nagkalit-Kalit Falls and Napcan Beach or just laze around in the evening with a great massage on the beach- Life feels so good in Palawan. Against this beautiful backdrop of the paradisiacal province, several award winning resorts are leading the way toward a more sustainable future, who have kept in mind both the blend of native design and low carbon elements and the province’s keen efforts towards preserving its ecology and natural beauty. Top Bucket List Experiences in Philippines 1. Soar over the famous Chocolate Hills in Bohol Sitting on the island of Bohol, the Chocolate Hills look like something otherworldly- just like the giant drops of Hershey’s chocolate kisses. What's unique with this picturesque landscape of limestone chocolate hills is that they are only covered in the grass while the cone shape is common to all although differing in sizes. The hills turn chocolaty brown only during the dry season in summer when the grass dries up and turns brown. These majestic Hills that have been designated as a National Geological Monument appear to be endless when viewed atop the hill in Carmen town while you also have the opportunity to see them from a viewing deck giving you a 360° view of the hills “as far as the eyes can see”. 2. Visit Palawan’s less-crowded, crowning jewel- Coron Island Just ask about Coron to any Filipino and their eyes will light up just hearing the name of it as they have assertively declared Coron Island as the most beautiful place in the country. Located in the province of Palawan, Coron was once a sleepy fishing town that is now slowly waking up to welcome tourists. Here, you will find the picture-perfect landscape rock formations that break through the skies and reside in turquoise lagoons below them. Swim through the waters of Barracuda Lake or the ancient shipwrecks underwater, visit hidden lagoons, snorkel over beautiful reefs, lounge on white beaches- the adventures at Coron just never seem to stop. If Coron isn’t on your Bucket list already, pen it down without giving it another thought! 3. See the Hanging Coffins of Sagada The members of the Igorot Tribe in Sagada province follow a unique burial ritual that has been long practised as the hanging of the coffins which are either nailed to the sides of the cliffs or inside the caves but always high above the ground. The elderly carve their own coffins out of hollowed logs. The reason the coffins were hung this way was due to the belief that the higher the dead were placed, the greater chance of their spirits reaching a higher nature in the afterlife. To this day, this age-old tradition continues to be performed but these can be only appreciated from afar. Do not forget to hire a guide as the location of the coffins is hard to reach.   4. A sight to behold- Banaue Rice Terraces is a must-visit! Locally known as the Hagdan-Hagdang Palayan, The Banaue Rice Terraces are without a doubt the source of pride for all Filipinos. Because of their magnificence and unavoidable natural beauty, these lush rice terraces have been inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and have also taken the centre stage in tourism highlights in the Philippines. Located at the foot of the Cordillera mountain ranges in the north, these terraces carved out of mountains with a sophisticated irrigation style are sure to take your breath away as you get lost by the astounding views that are too hard to miss when on a Philippines tour . 5. Jump off the Ariel’s Point and let the adrenaline rush for sheer excitement   Discovering Boracay’s famous diving spot, Ariel’s Point is like finding an all-new adventure haven. Ariel’s Point is a popular day-trip destination from Boracay that offers a wide range of outdoor activities including kayaking, snorkelling, paddle-boarding and the most famous cliff-diving/jumping. Start from the lowest jumping platform at 3 meters high or jump from as high as 15 meters up and plunge in the refreshing sea below. And the adrenaline rush as you leap into the air and splash into the blue ocean below is incomparable. This jump-off point attracts mostly young and adventurous travellers with its drink deals and thrill-inducing cliff jumps. Once you are done with the adventure, enjoy a hearty BBQ lunch and continue your island hopping just as you like. 6. Experience a slice of surfing thrill in Cloud 9 Being a tropical country, it is common in the Philippines that tourists opt to go to the beaches and relish in the related activities there beyond the comforting sun heat and lazy lounging which includes surfing. Siargao Island which is known to be the “ Surfing Capital of the Philippines ” is home to some of the finest surfing spots out of which Cloud 9 takes the lead. Surfing in Cloud 9 is a perfect barrelling reef break that can be both fun and challenging. The wave works best on typhoon swells from chest-shoulder high up to triple overhead at peak high tide. On a clean easterly swell and offshore SW wind, Cloud 9 can be mechanically perfect, with a guaranteed barrel on every wave. 7. Venture off the beaten path to Puerto Princesa The capital city of Palawan, Puerto Princesa is clean, pristine and all that is naturally spectacular. Though it is most popularly known for its crowning jewel- the Underground River, this beautiful tiny destination is also home to many natural, cultural and culinary wonders. To start your journey, you can take a ride through the calm waters of Puerto Princesa which goes under the mountain as well as fall free from one of the limestone cliffs right into the ocean water. Make your way to the nearby Honda Bay, sail over the swift waters of the subterranean river, spot the wildlife in the national park, treat yourself to a hearty buffet lunch or just stroll the city on foot and marvel at the prehistoric gems. Intramuros, a walled city in colonial times, the heart of Old Manila . The home to the baroque 16th-century San Agustin Church, Fort Santiago, storied citadel and military prison.

History Of Philippines

The History of the Philippines believed to begun with the arrival of first human using rafts or primitive boat at least 67,000 years ago (2007 discovery of Callao Man suggested). Negrito tribes first inhabited the isles. Groups of Austronesians later migrated to the Islands .

Eventually various groups developed, separated into hunter-gatherer tribes, warrior societies, petty plutocracies and maritime-oriented harbour principalities which eventually grew into Kingdoms, Rajahnates, Kedatuans, Huangdoms and Sultanates . These small nations were either greatly influenced by The Indian Hindu Religion, language, culture, literature and philosophy from India through many campaigns from India including South-East Asia campaign of Rajendra Chola I , Islam from Arabia or were Sinified tributary states allied to China .

The nations included the Indianized Rajahnates of Butuan and Cebu, The dynasty of Tondo , the august kingdoms of Maysapan and Maynila, The Kedatuan of Madja-as, the sinified Huangdom of Ma-i , the Huangdom of Pangasinan as well as the Muslim Sultanates of Sulu , Lanao and Maguindanao . These small maritime states flourished from the 1st millennium. These kingdoms traded with what are now called China, India, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. The remainder of the settlements were independent barangays allied with one of the larger states.

The first recorded visit by Europeans is The arrival of Ferdinand Magellan. He sighted Samar Island on March 16, 1521 and landed the next day on Homonhon Island , now part of Guiuan , Eastern Samar. The Spanish colonization began with the arrival of Miguel López de Legazpi’s expedition on February 13, 1565 from Mexico. He established the first permanent settlement in Cebu. Much of the archipelago came under Spanish rule, creating the first unified political structure known as the Philippines. Spanish colonial rule saw  an introduction of Christianity , the code of law and the oldest modern university in Asia . The Philippines was ruled under the Mexico-based Viceroyalty of New Spain until Mexican independence. After which, the colony was directly governed by Spain.

Spanish rule ended in 1898 with Spain’s defeat in the Spanish–American War. The Philippines then became a colony of the United States.

Culture Of Philippines

The Philippines was first settled by Melanesians ; today, although few in numbers, they preserve a very traditional way of life and culture . After them, the Austronesians or more specifically, Malayo-Polynesians , arrived on the islands. Today the Austronesian culture is very evident in the ethnicity, language, food, dance and almost every aspect of the culture. These Austronesians engaged in trading with China, India, Palau, Malay, USA, Malaysia, Papua, west Pacific Islander, Indonesian Islands, the Middle East, Borneo, and other places. As a result, those cultures have also left a mark on Filipino culture .

The Spanish colonized the islands and after more than three centuries of colonization Hispanic influence has heavily impacted the culture. The Philippines being governed from both Mexico and Spain , had received a fair bit of Hispanic influence . Mexican and Spanish influence can be seen in dance and religion as well as many other aspects of the culture. After being colonized by Spain, the Philippines became a U.S. territory for almost 50 years. Influence from the United States is seen in the wide use of the English language, and the modern pop culture.
