Mitski Announces Intimate ‘Amateur Mistake’ Shows in Support of New Album

Mitski will play a handful of North American shows this month to mark the release of her new album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We , out Sept. 15.

The singer-songwriter has announced four “Amateur Mistake” shows, starting Sept. 11 at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Mexico City. She’ll then play the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on Sept. 20, Town Hall in New York City on Sept. 26, and Trinity Church in Toronto on Sept. 29. (A run of previously-announced shows in the U.K. and Europe will follow in October.)

The “Amateur Mistake” shows will find Mitski playing a solo acoustic set. She’ll be joined in Mexico City by Joaquina Mertz, while Shana Cleveland will open in Los Angeles, and Mary Lattimore will provide support in NYC and Toronto.

Mitski acoustic North America, UK and Europe tour 2023: Presale, how to buy tickets, dates, venues, & more

I ndie-rock sensation Mitski has announced a series of intimate North American acoustic shows in support of her highly anticipated upcoming album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We. The tour, titled "Amateur Mistake," is expected to be massive as it also includes UK and European dates, making it an unforgettable musical experience for the fans.

The " Amateur Mistake" tour will make its way through major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, London, and Paris throughout the months of September and October.

For the Los Angeles, New York City, and Toronto shows, fans have a chance to win tickets through a special lottery. One can enter this lottery from September 5 at noon until September 10 just before midnight. The lottery winners will be notified on September 13. If there are any tickets left after the lottery, they will be sold to the general public on September 18.

EU and UK presale tickets will go on sale on September 7 at 12 PM BST or 1 PM CET, while the general sale will go on sale on September 8. All tickets can be purchased via Mitski's official website, Mitski.com.

Mitski's tour will begin in Mexico City and end in Paris

Mitski will kick off her tour with a Mexico City concert on September 11, 2023. After performing in various cities across America, the singer will finally wrap up her tour with a final concert in Paris on October 20, 2023.

Mitski is an American singer-songwriter with an Oscar nomination for her song This Is a Life

Mitski, whose full name is Mitski Miyawaki, is an American singer and songwriter known for her lyrics and unique style of indie rock music. She was born in Japan to an American father and a Japanese mother. She had a nomadic childhood, moving to 13 different countries worldwide before settling in New York City for college.

She initially pursued a career in music after completing high school in Turkey, and her earliest song, Bag of Bones, appeared on her first album. While studying film at Hunter College in New York, she decided to switch to music and transferred to SUNY Purchase. She then created her first two albums, LUSH and Retired from Sad, New Career in Business, as part of her school projects.

Her third album, Bury Me at Makeout Creek, marked a shift in her music style, moving away from classical piano to embrace raw, impulsive guitar. Her career took off when she signed with the independent label Dead Oceans and released Puberty 2 . This album, featuring the hit song Your Best American Girl, received critical acclaim and established her as a prominent indie artist.

In 2018, Mitski released Be the Cowboy, which explored a different persona and reached high positions on various music charts, including Billboard. She continued experimenting with her music, contributing songs to soundtracks, and writing a score for a graphic novel.

In 2022, she released Laurel Hell, which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart. Her music journey has been marked by constant evolution and a commitment to exploring new sounds and themes, making her a celebrated figure in the indie music scene.

Mitski has announced a string of intimate North American acoustic shows in support of her upcoming album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We .

Dubbed “Amateur Mistake,” the tour includes performances in Mexico City, Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto throughout the month of September. Come October, Mitski will play previously announced shows in the UK and Europe. Check out her updated tour schedule below.

Tickets for the LA, NYC, and Toronto shows will be distributed via lottery beginning Wednesday, September 13th (fans can register here ). Meanwhile, tickets for the Mexico City show are currently on sale.

In addition to her upcoming tour dates, on September 7th Mitski will host a series of music and film double features that’ll take place at movie theaters in Chicago, Dallas, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Nashville, Sydney, New York, and Tokyo. At each event, fans will get to hear The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We in its entirety, followed by a screening of a film selected by Mitski. More information can be found here .

The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We , Mitski’s seventh album to date, arrives on September 15th via Dead Oceans. It’s described as her “most American album,” pulling from a vast pool of influences, including spaghetti western soundtracks, Arthur Russell, Igor Stravinsky, and more. Quite literally worth every cent of my money and moment of my time. Venue was very easy to get into, suprisingly well air-conditioned even with the close quarters of the crowd, and Mitski was simply phenomenal. The storytelling presented through the songs and her interpretive performance, especially with how often she was moving around the stage or on the tables, was mind blowing and made it easy to see her despite the countless other individuals in front me. Plus the band livr gave such a good sound to her already stunning discography, I suggest seeing her if you get the chance!

Seeing Mitski perform live is like the feeling of reading someone's heartrending diary while they're standing in front of you, and you have their permission to do it, because somehow the two of you have reached some point that this is necessary. And then you cry because even pain can be beautiful, and that only makes it worse, and better.

I got stranded in Newcastle and ended up spending way more money than I originally meant to, in order to stay alive, but I'm gonna say it was worth it.

Every indie alternative fan out there go to see her if you have a chance. And sing along and dance if you can. Nothing is more satisfying than screaming on top of your lung ”your mother wouldn't approve of how my mother raised me” ”if you want to be mean be mean to me” ”I'm not gonna be what my daddy wants me to be”. Live it up boys and girls. Peace.

My third time seeing her and definitely my favorite. Just Mitski and her blue acoustic Fender, her music was more poignant and painstaking than ever. I don't think a single person left Colony that night without having cried, including Mitski herself! An absolute legend, honored to have seen her in such an intimate setting. 100% recommend seeing her.

She was amazing! Her voice was and will always be incredible! In between songs she talked about her experiances with haunting songs (since the venue was called the haunt) and at the end we managed to meet her, in was just ana amazing experience- by the end I was speechless. 20/10 love her so much

She is truly stunning. Her voice is crazy beautiful live and recorded, and her expressions on stage are beautiful. Such a well done show, would see her again in a heartbeat. Her openers The Overcoats were also stunning. They created so much energy with their set; I would also see them again.

What a great show. Mitski is awesome live. The audio was a little off, with her voice low in the mix at the start. She fixed that shit immediately. I hope Mitski makes it big and ends up in stadiums, but this place was small and it was a great way to see her music. Awesome show.

The Amateur Mistake tour will be taking place across North America visiting four different cities and the most intimate of venues they have to offer. It all starts at the Teatro de la Ciudad in Mexico City on September 11th before heading to the U.S. for bi-coastal performances at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles on September 20th and New York’s Town Hall on September 26th. Before heading to the U.K. and Europe she’ll perform one final night at Trinity Church in Toronto on September 29th.

When Do Mitski Tickets Go On Sale?

Tickets for Mitski go on sale to the general public on Monday, September 18th.

Fans who are selected as part of the presale lottery will be granted access on Wednesday, September 13th. Get all the Mitski presale codes and presale times below!

What Is The Mitski Presale Code?

In order to buy presale tickets to the Amateur Mistake tour you’ll first need to sign up for the lottery ticketing process. Once you’ve selected your preferred Mitski tour date , make sure you read the “Important Info” section at the top of the page before placing your ticket request. Those who want to join the lottery for the Los Angeles date at the Ace Hotel should head here .

Fans will have until Sunday, September 10th at 11:59pm ET to request a ticket through the Mitski presale lottery. If selected you’ll receive an email on September 13th . A presale code is not necessary but you will need to sign up for a chance at presale access for all shows you plan on getting tickets to.

The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We is the seventh studio album from Mitski and arrives on September 15th via Dead Oceans. Three singles have already been shared by the artist since its announcement, including the ecstatic “Bug Like an Angel” and instrumental-swelling “Heaven.” Each revealing the emotional rapture that lies at the heart of her latest sprawling venture.

What To Do If Tickets Are Sold Out?

Pro Tips When Buying Your Tickets

First, on the day of the presale or general onsale (whichever you prefer), login to your Ticketmaster account ( go to my account or sign in located on the upper right corner of the page ) at least 15 minutes ahead of the sale time. If you don’t have one,  create one now .

Be sure to add your billing info (aka credit card info) before jumping into the digital queue for a quick check-out. Once the presale starts, remain in the digital queue. Only use one browser window because using multiple browsers or devices and multiple accounts with the same phone number can result in errors. Trust, it’s happened to us before! Don’t refresh your page, do be patient, don’t leave your page, do get those tickets!

Later this week, a limited run of “music and film double features” offering a preview of Mitski’s new record will be screened at theaters in select cities . Although she will not be in attendance during the special events, attendees will get to experience her latest batch of songs in a unique cinematic form.

In recent weeks, Mitski has shared three pre-release singles from  The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We , including “ Bug Like an Angel ,” “ Star ,” and “ Heaven .”

Mitski announces 2024 UK and European tour

The dates include three nights at London’s Eventim Apollo

Mitski has shared details of an upcoming tour of the UK and Europe in 2024 – find ticket details below.

The new live shows come in support of the American artist’s latest album ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We’ . Released via Dead Oceans, the LP marks her seventh studio album and hears the singer return to more analogue and organic roots.

Since the release Mitski has gone on to play various acoustic performances of the record in cities across North America, the UK and Europe. However, this will be the first time that she has gone on a full band tour to celebrate the album in the UK and EU.

Kicking off in spring next year, the run of dates will start with two back-to-back shows at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on April 27 and 28. From there she will continue the UK and Ireland dates with two stops at Manchester’s O2 Apollo (May 1-2), one at the 3Arena in Dublin (May 4) and one at The Civic At The Halls in Wolverhampton (May 6).

She will wrap up the UK dates with three back-to-back nights at the Eventim Apollo in London. These will run between May 8 and May 10 and will mark Mitski’s biggest headline shows in the UK to date.

The EU dates start in Brussels on May 14 and wrap at the end of the month with a gig at Theatre 11 in Zurich. The dates include stops in Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Frankfurt and feature support from Richard Dawson, Miya Folick and Iceage .

Mitski’s UK and European tour dates will follow on the heels of her recently announced US tour . These will take place earlier in the year, running between January and April. All tickets for US shows are currently sold out.

In a four-star review of ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We’ last month NME praised the musician for her ability to capture “such tragic solitude”, alongside feelings of “sudden comfort and presence”.

“The crux of the album is the dance shared between great grief and great joy; communicated through Mitski’s instrumental choices, both are unflattened and bare,” it read.

“The album paints a landscape that is shaped entirely by these poles — they bring about apocalyptic destruction then birth new life; they exist because of each other, or are one and the same.”

More recently, the singer received a five-star review last week for her intimate acoustic show at London’s Union Chapel.

“The space is resplendent in Gothic frescoes and vaulted ceilings: ideal both acoustically and aesthetically for what will be a mesmerising sermon,” it read.

“Contrary to the artist’s often histrionic performances, this is a remarkably spare show, and all the more striking for it… the enunciated clarity of Mitski’s voice is startlingly and consistently evident for the duration of the hour-long performance.”
