Disciplines

Surf-freestyle.

Men | Women

The Surf-Freestyle discipline includes the expression format where competitors surf waves or swells and perform air tricks using the given water conditions.

FreeFly-Slalom

The FreeFly-Slalom discipline is a competition format with a start and finish line, focusing on the FreeFly sections. Competitors must pump, glide or surf without the power of the wing in the FreeFly sections, combining those skills with technical Slalom elements.

Competitors in the Wave discipline purely surf waves in any surfing conditions from cross offshore point breaks, to onshore beach breaks. No jumps on the way out are counted for the competitors score.

The Big Air discipline is all about amplitude and air time. The biggest and most spectacular jumps will score the highest.

Earn your wings on this fresh Buffalo food tour with samples of Buffalo’s tastiest chicken wings. On this incredible journey, we’ll dive deep into the history of Buffalo’s most famous and misunderstood dish and attempt to answer the question, “Who was the true inventor of the first Buffalo Wing?”.

SKILL LEVEL

THE ORIGINAL CHICKEN WING TOUR OF BUFFALO, NY!

The Wing Ride takes you on a tasting journey of some of Buffalo's best chicken wings, with samplings and colorful stories along the way. On this tour, you'll dive deep into the hidden history of the city's famous dish and explore how Buffalo was shaped by social dynamics, from its working-class origins to present-day resurgence.

The tour begins with a visit with Lina Brown Young, the daughter of a legendary chicken wing restauranteur, who shares personal photos, stories, and her dad’s long-lost mumbo wing recipe, which had been unavailable for 23 years.

We’ll continue with a stop at the Anchor Bar, where we’ll learn the wild story of how their wings were born by accident. Skip the tourist line and crowds and get an inside look (and taste) at this beloved wing institution.

The chicken wing tour concludes with wings from Tiny Thai, an up-and-coming food truck, where we’ll sample a recipe that connects the past, present, and future of chicken wings. Experience the tour that’s been featured by the Food Network, NY Times, and Vice Media.

Note: Menu and stops subject to change. This tour travels through Buffalo neighborhoods, some of which have seen disinvestment, but you would be remiss not to learn the true story of how an American food icon came to be.

2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour Review

Evans Brasfield

An impressive update to Honda's flagship motorcycle

wing tour

The MO journey to bring you this review of the 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour has turned into the story of two very different trips gone awry for two very different reasons. However, despite the hiccups along the way, we end up with a comprehensive look at Honda’s touring flagship under a variety of riding conditions, and despite the frustrations of our respective challenges, our impressions of the Gold Wing Tour stand out as remarkably positive.

2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour

First Look: 2018 Honda Gold Wing And Gold Wing Tour

Top 10 Facts About The 2018 Honda Gold Wing

We’ll start with the experience of Sean Alexander and his wife Natalie at Honda’s press introduction for the Wing:

“As the motorcycle press packed their bags in preparation for the new 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour first rides in Austin, Texas, a sub-freezing blast of arctic air and ice bore down on American Honda’s PR and Marketing crew. The fact that the last rideable weather was now forecast to be the first day of a multi-day press ride must have created quite a dilemma for our hosts in Austin: ‘Do we cancel the Gold Wing press ride?’ or ‘Do we modify the route to shorten it into a single day and miss all of the best and most entertaining roads on the far end?

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

“Lee Edmunds and his team at American Honda played the hand Mother Nature dealt them, going all-in on the strengths of the new 2018 Gold Wing’s comfort and wow factors to carry the day over a truncated route through mostly flat and straight roads that were bordered by brown fields, power lines, and giant church radio antennas. We spoiled motojournalists like to test motorcycles on twisty in hilly country with amazing scenery, so Honda’s polar storm hail-Mary could have resulted in disaster for them.

“But it didn’t. The new 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour lives up to the hype. Its unconventional new front suspension proved to be properly impressive, while its two-up comfort made for happy couples on the ride. Since many Gold Wings owners spend much of their riding time two-up, Honda encouraged attending journalists to bring their spouse or significant other along for this press intro, and many did. From the conversations around the dinner tables, both the riders and their passengers came away impressed from what could have been a long, boring ride where the participants spent their time cataloging their complaints about the motorcycle.”

2018 honda gold wing tour review, Getting in the ride before the ice storm

We’ll leave Sean and Natalie at the dinner table and move on to our second Gold Wing ride: Evans Brasfield’s.

From the moment that Honda allowed us a first look at the all-new Gold Wings , I knew that I wanted to attend the introduction – and then ride the bike back from Austin to Los Angeles. On top of that, I wouldn’t just make an interstate bomber run, I would take the bike all over the Southwest with a final goal of logging 2,000 miles, which would allow me to really get to know the Wing in a way that can’t be accomplished on a two-day introductory ride. The only problem was that a bike wouldn’t be available to ride away for a couple weeks after Honda’s media introduction. So, Sean and Natalie attended the press ride, and I redirected my efforts towards just riding the Wing back solo after Honda had finished the slew of introductions for media, dealers, and technicians.

Riding The 2018 Honda Gold Wing On The Nuclear Tourist Tour

2018 honda gold wing tour review, Ambitious yes but what better way to test the Gold Wing Tour s long distance capabilities

The plan for my tour looked doable on paper, but the trip began to unravel quickly when real life intervened. My first 600-mile day went as planned, and the Gold Wing Tour proved to be an ideal companion for gobbling up the miles in conditions that ranged from 65° F down to a low of 23° F as I rolled into Santa Rosa, NM. Since I’ve already written about the events of my ride at the link above, I’ll sum up my trip’s experience by stating that I became progressively sicker with the flu and ultimately cut my route short with a 600-mile final day with a 102° fever. Although my trip was abbreviated, I still managed 1,900 miles over four days and have tons to say about how well the Gold Wing Tour worked.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, The beginning of my tour when everything was shiny and full of promise

What follows is a combination of my and Sean’s impressions from our two very different rides on the 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour.

Engine Performance

I’m not going to spend a lot of time going over in detail all the new features of the Gold Wing. I covered that in my “ First Look: 2018 Honda Gold Wing And Gold Wing Tour .” Consider that article to be the theory of the new Wing and this to be the practical application. And where better to start than a look at the heart of the beast.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, More powerful and efficient compact lighter with the manual transmission the new flat Six is everything we loved about the old engine and more

The Gold Wing’s 1,833cc SOHC flat-Six is a completely new mill which shares nothing with the previous generation. The design goals were simple: increase both power and efficiency, plus make the engine shorter to allow it to be located further forward in the frame. To enable the more compact size, the cylinder bore was dropped 1mm to yield a perfectly square bore and stroke of 73mm x 73mm, and the distance between bore-centers was shrunk by 9mm. Additionally, the cylinder offset from the left and right cylinder banks was reduced by 4mm. The result is a more powerful engine that is 29mm shorter front-to-back and 13.7 pounds lighter (in 6-speed manual configuration, which is the only way to directly compare the new engine to the previous generation).

The Gold Wing’s engine retains the characteristic otherworldly smoothness of the previous generation. However, the torque delivery feels more pronounced in the bottom end, and once the engine hits the mid-range, it feels significantly more energetic. Throttle response from the ride-by-wire single throttle body is responsive – and lurch-free – at all engine speeds. Changing the ride mode from Tour to Sport brightens the throttle response a tad, but it’s hard to tell since the biggest change between the two modes is how the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) operates.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, The Gold Wing s DCT really shined when touring out on the open road

With its latest iteration of the DCT, Honda has hit the ball out of the park when it comes to touring. After a brief period of acclimatization to the way it operates, I found myself quite happy to let the engine do all the shifts for me in the vast majority of riding situations. When you consider that my trip included two 600-mile days, that’s a lot of work that the DCT saved me, and I’m certain I was fresher at the end of the day than I would’ve been otherwise. When approaching corners that I wanted to choose what gear to downshift to, I merely had to hit a paddle with my left thumb. The DCT would upshift back to top gear after I stopped rolling on the throttle. When you’re not in fully manual mode, the trick to keeping the transmission in the gear you want is to keep ramping up the throttle throughout the whole corner. Pause, even for a moment, and the transmission upshifts. This isn’t a big deal, but it does soften the acceleration out of the corner – and you know how we MO rons like to accelerate!

Sean hasn’t always been a fan of Honda’s DCT. He definitely likes to be in control of things. (And I mean that in the nicest of ways, Sean.) So, I was quite surprised when he said, “I think it would be a coin flip as to whether I got the DCT or the traditional manual transmission.” In fact, his notes about the manual transmission were mostly on the negative side, citing a long lever throw and a lack of clutch feel.

Sean also had comments about the engine at touring speeds: “There is a definite, persistent (though not obnoxious) exhaust drone from around 2,100 rpm through about 3,000 rpm when maintaining a constant speed. That works out to about 60-80 mph in 7th gear on a DCT Gold Wing. Honda was trying for a more sporty tone with new 2018 Gold Wing exhaust, but I think they may have overshot their target by a bit. A decibel or two lower with a bit less ear-pressure might have made the drone all but unnoticeable.”

2018 honda gold wing tour review, Sporty exhaust note or drone You decide

I, too, noticed the drone (as Sean described it) but was completely unbothered by it. Since I ride almost exclusively with earplugs and was aware of Sean’s feelings about it, I took a stint on my ride without them and listened for the drone. Yes, I noticed the tone that Sean was referring to, but I didn’t find it objectionable. Instead, I found the new exhaust note to be pleasantly sporty but not so loud that it intruded in my riding enjoyment. (Also, my earplugs almost completely mask the drone, making it a non-issue when I was wearing them.) Perhaps he is more sensitive in those sound frequencies than I am. Regardless, I think this exhaust tone falls in the realm of personal tastes.

The new Gold Wing’s 5.5-gallon tank has created a bit of controversy, as the previous Wing carried a gallon more fuel. Over the course of my 1,900 miles, I averaged 39.5 mpg (Low: 37.3 mpg, High: 42.1 mpg), yielding a mathematical range of 217 miles. I’m sure some Iron Butt Association riders and other long-distance touring aficionados will bemoan the “short” range, but frankly, I’m ready to stop and stretch my legs after 200 miles of uninterrupted seat time. However, on two instances during my trip, I found myself with the Range display on the dash reading a blank as I rolled into town with over 200 miles on the trip meter. My lengthiest stint had me put 5.434 gallons in the tank after traveling 210 miles. Clearly, I cut it a bit close. Still, place me in the group who isn’t too worried about the bike’s range.

2018 honda gold wing tour review

Suspension and Handling

In the list of upgrades announced on the 2018 Gold Wing, the one that garnered the most curiosity was the new front suspension. Let me put my thoughts into highly technical terms: The Gold Wing’s double-wishbone front suspension is pretty freaking cool! My first impression of the design is that it feels almost exactly the same as a motorcycle with a traditional telescopic fork. Well, until you hit a bump or grab a handful of front brake. Although I hit some pretty big bumps on my ride, the force transmitted to the grips was remarkably muted, but more on that in a minute.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, Look closely and you ll see how tightly placed the front wheel is to the engine That s because the double wishbone fork tracks straight up and down over bumps

My initial concern when reading about the double-wishbone suspension was that I’d feel isolated from what the front suspension was doing since the link between the handlebar and the actual steering head was a pair of tie-rods. That simply isn’t the case in the vast majority of the riding I did on the Wing. Yes, when cranked over in a corner at peg-dragging speeds, I didn’t feel as connected to the front tire as I would on a sportbike, but the reality is that I don’t need to. This is a touring bike, and I’m not pushing the tires to their limits at those speeds and lean angles.

I think it’s time to let Sean gush a little bit about the suspension because it obviously got his attention: “To me, it’s clear that the front suspension and the overall composure of the suspension and linked braking system are the real stars of the dynamics show.

“Specifically, the layout of the new suspension allows the rider to see the tops of the ball joints at the outboard end of the steering tie-rods… that’s the end connected directly to the non-telescoping front fork which is raked all the way out to a 30-degree angle. A byproduct of the suspension’s layout is that the rider can actually see the travel of the front axle through two openings located just ahead of the handlebars. My eyes tell me there is a lot going on down there, but none of it is impacting my hands! Huge bump! I watch the ball joints jump, I swear about six inches in a tenth of a second, and I don’t feel a thing! It’s uncanny watching the suspension do its job on a rough road, two-up at 70 mph, while the steering and bars do precisely not a damned thing. The refinement is almost spooky.

“But it isn’t black magic; that fixed 30-degree fork, the outboard ends of the A-arms and those outboard steering ball joints all operate, literally, on a different plane from the steering head and handlebars. The only thing the bars feel are the steering forces delivered through another set of ball joints on the inboard ends of the tie-rods. All suspension duties are handled by the A-arms, front spring and front damper, which are connected independently from those steering tie-rods. It really works and it puts on a cool visual show while doing it.”

2018 honda gold wing tour review, The Gold Wing s linked brakes are powered by a pair of radial mount six piston calipers and 320mm discs Their stopping power coupled with the fork s lack of dive makes for impressive stops from this big motorcycle

How the front suspension soaks up the bumps is only part of the story, though. The first time you get into a hard-braking situation on the Gold Wing is an educational experience. Yes, the 80-pound reduction in weight plays its part in the new Wing’s braking capability, but the radially mounted six-piston front brake calipers and their 320mm rotors offer an amazing amount of bite, followed by controllable power. The kicker is that the front end has minimal dive under hard braking, so the chassis doesn’t pitch at all, taking a lot of drama out of quick stops. The linked braking balances the system quite well, and despite some full-tilt braking maneuvers, I never triggered the ABS. The DCT also plays a role in braking by downshifting and dragging the clutch as it works its way through the gears. When attacking a winding road, this is quite fun. Around town at much lower braking intensities, it required a little adjustment in technique.

Sean again: “Even two-up with loaded luggage and an extra-heavy rider, the new Gold Wing simply stops, or sheds speed in the most undramatic but effective fashion I’ve ever experienced on a big streetbike.

“Natalie and I were meeting our new Video Producer, Sean Matic, along our route to try to get as much video as we could before the bad weather rolled in. Since I had used the bike’s intercom and phone integration capabilities to stay in contact with him during the ride, I knew he was already on the side of the road somewhere up ahead. As Natalie and I flashed past at about 70 mph, I distracted myself by turning to wave at him as we passed. When I then turned back, I realized we were charging into a 15-mph 90-degree left, at 70 mph – with my left hand still hanging in the air. BIG handful of front brake, the Gold Wing subtly hunkered down and then just plain SLOWED. We made the corner without any extra drama, trail-braking down to about 30 mph at the apex before accelerating away as if nothing happened. It’s feats like this that can make you really respect a bike. I sure do respect the heck out of the Gold Wing now.”

2018 honda gold wing tour review

I want to call the Gold Wing’s handling nimble, but my coworkers would quickly point out a whole raft of motorcycles – mostly of the sporting variety – that are actually nimble. So, I’ll temper my comments by saying that it is very nimble for a motorcycle claimed to weigh 833 lbs. While hustling through the twisties on Highway 78 from New Mexico into Arizona, I never forgot that I was riding a big, heavy touring motorcycle. Instead, I marveled at what this big, heavy touring motorcycle was capable of doing up to about a 7/10ths sport-touring pace. In the right hands, a Gold Wing will surprise some unsuspecting riders out on the local Sunday ride.

However, there are some limitations as to how far you can push physics, and the Wing did require a little tweaking to transition from touring mode to canyon carver. Yes, changing the ride mode from Touring to Sport does stiffen up the suspension, but it still was on the soft side for the type of hustling I was doing along Highway 78. Changing the base settings from Rider with Luggage to Two Riders with Luggage improved things. Single mid-corner bumps were absorbed, but a series of rolling bumps in a sweeper could upset the chassis and require slowing down a bit. However, I see this as less of a criticism of the suspension than a note about how far out of the typical touring scenario the Gold Wing is capable of flying.

Touring Amenities

Creature comfort is one of the defining features of a full-dress touring motorcycle, and the Gold Wing has no shortage of them. I’ll start with the controversial (well, at least in the comments in my first look article ) smaller fairing and windshield. My travels took me through temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to the low-20s, and I feel that the Gold Wing’s aerodynamics were top-notch.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, The Gold Wing Tour s seats received praise from both riders and passengers

The electrically-adjustable windshield (hooray!) did a good job of offering breeze when I wanted it and protection when I needed it. While some of the credit for my comfort goes to the heated seat and grips plus my Spidi 4Season suit and Aerostich Kanetsu Airvantage Electric Vest , the pocket of still air made it possible for me to ride for extended periods in some seriously cold weather. (I took perverse pleasure in passing cars carrying bundled-up people down highways with snow on either side.) I mostly kept the windshield a few inches from its highest position. The airflow over my helmet was quiet, and the back pressure I felt in the highest position was minimized. (Note: Sean felt absolutely no back pressure with the windshield fully extended with a passenger.) When the temperatures rose, I lowered the screen until I found the right balance of cooling wind and helmet noise. I never encountered any helmet-jostling turbulence, but at its lowest position, the windshield did deliver a low-frequency rumble at the base of my helmet that might grow tiring over a long day.

The riding position is perfect for touring. The neutrally placed pegs are only slightly forward in a natural seating position, and the seat-to-peg distance is ideal for my 32-inch inseam. My torso was in a comfortable, all-day upright position. The seat is wide, flat, and properly padded. My butt was remarkably pain-free at the end of both my 600-mile days days. Sean’s notes concurred with mine: “Both of us were fresh and ready for another full day in the saddle when we arrived at the hotel.”

2018 honda gold wing tour review, If you think the Walking Mode is just for backing the Gold Wing Tour into a parking space try making a U turn on a narrow sandy road without it

With a reasonable 29.3-inch seat height, one would think that the reach to the ground would be easy, but the width of the saddle extends the relative reach. I have fairly long legs, and I have to stretch to flat foot on both sides of the Wing. Fortunately for shorter riders, Honda included Walking Mode on the DCT models for maneuvering the Wing at low speeds. It works exactly as you would expect in assisting the rider in moving both forward and reverse at a walking pace with the press of a couple buttons. What I didn’t expect was how useful it is at saving me from dumb things that I do – like needing to turn around an 800-pound motorcycle on a narrow road that suddenly changed from hard-packed dirt to sand. I found myself in just such a predicament when photographing the Gold Wing with windmills in the background. Without Walking Mode to help me make a multi-point turn in the sand, I’d have ended up hiking a mile or so out to the highway to look for help. (With the double-wishbone front suspension, I couldn’t bounce the bike backwards like I typically would with a telescopic fork.)

The other controversy on the 2018 Gold Wing Tour is the reduction of luggage capacity compared to the previous generation. For a quick reminder, the 2017 Wing was capable of carrying a total of 150 liters of cargo in its saddlebags and trunk. The 2018 Gold Wing Tour can only carry 73% as much stuff, 110 liters in total – 30 liters in each saddlebag and 50 liters in the trunk. While MO generally subscribes to the “more is more” philosophy, I’ll admit that the volume of last year’s luggage would look out of proportion on the Wing’s new, slimmer lines. So, how is the new capacity to live with while out on the road?

2018 honda gold wing tour review, Although smaller than the saddlebags on the previous generation Gold Wing the storage space seems reasonable to me However bag liners will be a necessity

For me, the issue with the bags is less about their capacity and more about the requirements of all side-opening saddlebags. Simply put, if the manufacturer doesn’t include some kind of cargo net in the bags, stuff falls out when they are opened. For day-hopping this isn’t an issue because you probably aren’t carrying that much, but for an extended ride, accessory bag liners are required – or you risk having your t-shirts and undies fall out every time you open the door. Since Honda’s liners weren’t available in time for my tour, I had to get along with using zip-locking plastic bags. I think everyone who owns one of the new Gold Wings will end up buying the accessory liners at some point.

In the trunk, I did feel the pinch of the smaller capacity. My camera bag, which has fit in every other trunk that I’ve tried on touring bikes, was an extremely tight fit. In fact, I had to take some of its contents out and pack them on either side of the camera bag in the trunk to get everything inside. For a more universal measurement, I was able to fit my XL Shoei RF-1200 and a S Shoei RF-700 into the trunk without issue. However, nothing bigger than a small would fit alongside my XL helmet. Big-headed couples caveat emptor.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, They are snug but a S and XL helmet can fit in the trunk

The only other quibble I have about the bags is their persnicketiness about where you press them to close. Both the trunk and the saddlebags have two latches that must completely lock or you’ll get a helpful reminder flashing on the dash. When the bags are empty, pressing from the exact center between the latches usually remedies the issue. If the bags are full, you may have to adjust where you press to get the lids to seat completely. On the positive side, the soft-touch buttons used to open the bags exude quality that I appreciated every time I pressed them.

The infotainment system that Honda designed for the Gold Wing is a tour de force befitting a flagship model. The centerpiece is the 7-inch TFT display screen set between an analog speedometer and tachometer. Two smaller LCD displays at the left and right edges of the dash display other essential information. The layout is thoughtful and easy-to-read with a quick glance. In a break from many of the screens seen in other touring models, the Wing’s screen is not touch-enabled. When at a stop, a handy center-mounted joystick controls the menus. At speed, an array of buttons on the left grip handles the tasks.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, The dash is well laid out and is an ideal tool for navigating the information a rider needs out on the road

Out on the open road, the two screens I spent the most time on were the integrated GPS and Apple CarPlay. I did occasionally dip in to the SiriusXM screen to change stations, but after that, I’d usually go back to the GPS. The Gold Wing’s GPS is the best motorcycle GPS I’ve had the pleasure of sampling. The wide screen offers plenty of room for the map and the list of upcoming turns. When a turn is approaching, a secondary map with higher resolution replaces the turn list on the right side of the screen, simplifying the act of getting through complicated intersections in unfamiliar locations. The GPS can also import files from the USB input, making it possible to follow complicated routes. For daily use, however, I’d probably find myself using CarPlay and Apple Maps.

According to Sean, the dash-mounted speakers and those in the trunk are plenty loud, and they’re clear enough to listen to talk radio at highway speeds. I chose to use my Sena 30K and earbuds as my music source, and the infotainment system was happy to oblige. (Also, in order to use CarPlay, a headset must be paired and the iPhone must be plugged into the USB port.)

My only issue with the infotainment system involves the CarPlay integration. When I initiate a call through Apple CarPlay – usually via Siri – I can’t switch away from the phone screen and back to the GPS display until the call is over. Hitting the Home button does take me to that screen, but the controls are locked while on a call, effectively making CarPlay and the phone screen my only choice. However, if I’m using Apple Maps inside of CarPlay, I can easily switch to that screen while talking on the phone. So, I suspect the GPS issue might be due to a CarPlay limitation.

The End of the Tour

My time with the 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour was both enlightening and frustrating. The frustration comes from getting extremely sick and not really being able to really enjoy my days on the open road more fully. That said, I don’t think I could have chosen a better mount for my extended ride.

2018 honda gold wing tour review, Day 3 Somewhere off of Highway 78 in New Mexico

The Gold Wing Tour has the cross-country chops to inhale the mileage on the highway or meander your way down the most scenic of winding roads. The new engine has improved power in the places that a touring mount should, and the DCT relegates the old-fashioned standard transmission into also-ran status for touring duty. Honda’s weight-loss program pays dividends in every performance category, but the double-wishbone suspension wins the day when it comes to the bike’s dynamic improvements.

The 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT starts at $27,700 and is available for test rides at Honda dealerships.

Where's the scrambler version? (I kid but, someone will eventually ask)

Frank Ward

Nice article...I wanted to just add a few comments since I rode the old model for 15 years and now ride a 2018.

Smaller fuel tank...well I 've ridden farther on my 2018 on a tank of fuel than I ever did with my 03 model that carried over a gallon more fuel. I've gotten 286 miles from a tank of fuel. The 2018 has exceeded my expectations with the fuel mileage and makes the smaller fuel tank a moot point.

Clutch level pull...there is definitely a different feel with the 2018's clutch compared to the old model and it takes a bit of adjusting...but after some miles, the clutch feels natural and very nice..I have no complaints...and the transmission....the new 6 speed with the slipper clutch is a huge upgrade over the old models 5 speed...its shifts more precise with shorter shift throws, is quieter, smoother both with upshifts and downshifts, and the 6th gear lowers the cruising rpms. The new 6-speed is the transmission that wing riders have been saying they wanted on the forums for the last 10 years. Honda doesn't get enough credit for the new 6 speed transmission.

The seat...everybody's different with seats but I'm very surprised that the testers in the article are claiming they could go 600 miles in comfort with the stock seat....heck, I couldn't even ride 70 miles before the stock seat caused discomfort. The stock seat with the 2018 was the worst seat I've ever rode on. Wingsoft fixed the stock seat for me and its a hundred times better than how Honda made the seat. I can now ride all day on the Wingsoft seat...it should also be noted that I had to have the old models seat done to be comfortable on all day rides too.

The wind management is just superior with the 2018. The old model while it offered very good weather protection, could get rather stuffy riding in hot weather, but the 2018 with its power windshield is much nicer and much more comfortable riding in hot weather. I like the added air flow that the 2018 offers and I find the rain protection and the cold weather protection to be just as nice as the old model despite the fairing being 8 inches narrower. I never felt the vents on my full face Shoei working with the old wing, but with the 2018 the air flow through my helmet is just so very nice and much more comfortable...I didn't know what I was missing and how much nicer the riding could be with the added air flow that the power windshield offers.

Weight loss...the weight loss can be felt as soon as you throw your leg over the seat...everything is easier compared to the old model from backing it out of your garage to making tight U turns....the weight loss is a very nice upgrade.

Suspension….the new Gold Wings OEM suspension is much better than the old models OEM suspension. The new wing rides very nice and the front end is much more ridged...but the suspension with the new wing is under damped and under sprung ,especially for fast paced two up riding...but even with its soft suspension the new wing is just so much better than the old wings oem suspension...but like with the old wing Traxxion can tune the suspension to the needs of more demanding riders and its well worth the money for better suspension.

The drone...yes the exhaust does have a drone and I don't care for it. I wish Honda would had made the exhaust as quiet as the old models exhaust.

Overall though, Honda did a heck of a job with the new Gold Wing, except for the smaller luggage capacity and the helmet lock, the new Gold Wing is better in everyway and is the best Gold Wing Honda has ever made.

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT | First Ride Review

Wheeling in the Years

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

EIC Drevenstedt asked me a simple question: “How many Honda Gold Wings have you ridden?” My answer required lots of mental calculations: maybe 75 or 80 total? “Okay,” he said. “Then you go ride the 2021 Gold Wing Tour DCT and tell me how it fits in with all those past Wings.”

Back in the late 1970s, I worked at Cycle magazine, and we rode the living snot out of every test bike, including the big ones. So full disclosure: I’m an outlier regarding performance standards. I’ve always pushed motorcycles far beyond the typical pace, and I prize light and lively handling above all else. Since 2000 I’ve ridden over 40 different fifth-gen Wings (2001-2017 GL1800s), but I had yet to ride the sixth-gen GL1800 that was introduced in 2018 and updated in 2020 .

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

The mechanicals, measurements, electronics, and such of the sixth-gen GL1800 have been thoroughly covered in previous Rider tests ( September 2020 , November 2019 , May 2018 , and January 2018 ). But there are several updates baked into this 2021 iteration :

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

Revised passenger accommodations: The passenger seat backrest reclines more and has thicker foam and a taller profile. Both my wife and daughter prefer this setup compared to the previous-generation GL1800s we ride (2003 and 2008; see “SIDEBAR: A Tale of Two Gold Wings” below). They especially like the longer armrests but regret the loss of the two rear storage compartments.

Larger trunk: The top trunk now holds 61 liters (up 11 from before; total luggage capacity is 121 liters) and can now stow a pair of full-face helmets. The low back lip facilitates easy loading, but care must be taken to tuck in the cargo’s stray straps, sleeves, etc. so the lid latches securely.

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

New seat cover and rear turn signals: The seat’s new suede-like material has a premium look and feel to it, and the colored seat piping is a nice touch. The rear turn signals are now all red for a cleaner look.

Updated audio: Improvements include upgraded, 45-watt speakers with richer sound, optimized automatic volume-adjustment level, a standard XM radio antenna and new Android Auto integration in addition to the previous Apple CarPlay integration.

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

My other impressions of the sixth-gen Wing? Awesome brakes. Truly awesome, much like sportbike binders. I never felt the brakes on my 2008 Wing were lacking, until now. Equally important, rider ergonomics are vastly improved. I’m a big guy, and I’ve always felt cramped and confined by the previous-gen GL1800’s seat/bar/peg configuration. The latest iteration offers much more natural and comfortable ergonomics.

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

The Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) is also impressive and relieves some of the rider task load, especially while riding around town and dealing with traffic. Its shift points in Tour mode are accurate, if a bit relaxed, while Sport mode’s power delivery feels much crisper and even a bit abrupt. Sport mode holds shift points so much longer you really need to be totally sport focused, not even a little bit lazy in your planning. And that’s not a complaint; Sport is my preferred setting on tight back roads. The DCT can be a little tricky during ultra-low-speed maneuvering, but I adapted fairly quickly. I do, however, miss being able to slow-roll a tight turn using the clutch during gas station maneuvers and such.

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

As for styling, the new machine looks stunningly sleek and remarkably athletic parked beside my 2008 GL1800. However, I am not much swayed by a machine’s cosmetics; it’s what she’ll do that counts. And Gold Wings have long been unfairly maligned for their size and looks without proper respect for their high level of full-throttle performance.

It’s hilariously revealing when anybody bad-mouths the Honda Gold Wing as an “old man’s bike,” especially if their opinion isn’t based on actual riding experience. When I wrote the test for the then-new GL1200 for the February 1984 issue of Cycle, my conclusion was: “This year the Honda engineers have pulled off an unbelievable trick — they’ve taken a 790-pound machine and made it nimble and manageable. The choice is clear. Why put up with a big-feeling touring mount when you can have something as close to magic as we’ve seen in a long time?”

Cycle magazine 1984 cover Honda Gold Wing GL1200

Whew! Lofty praise indeed. But it reflects how much Honda engineers have always invested in the basic bones — the chassis and engine — of every generation of the Gold Wing to create a good-handling package.

Things got bigger and better with the gen-four GL1500. I didn’t spend much time on full-dresser 1500s, but I fell deeply in love with the stripped-down 1,520cc Valkyrie muscle bike — unvarnished, rowdy fun! Do you have your October 1996 issue of Rider handy? That’s my story, “The Great Escape,” with our daughter Kristen joining me on the new Valkyrie in Montana. After completing that trip I had more Valkyrie miles logged than any non-Honda employee. And I loved it.

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

Rider’s 2018 Motorcycle of the Year: Honda Gold Wing Tour

Within the realm of big tourers, I am especially enamored with the fifth-gen Wing for both its handling and power. When I dove into the first corner aboard the GL1800 back in 2000 during the bike’s press intro, that previously beloved Valky instantly turned to toast; the GL1800 simply smoked it on handling alone, not to mention the big boost in power. For riders with a serious sporting bent, it was a real revelation thanks to its delightfully agile handling and precise steering. (We have former Large Project Leader Masanori Aoki, who was responsible for several CBR sportbike models before heading up the GL1800 project, to thank for that.) It felt nothing short of wondrous at the time and it remains a wonder and a mystery even today, which is why many uninitiated “experts” still foolishly look down their noses at Wings.

2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour DCT review

Fact is, I’ve personally schooled more than a few leather-clad sportbike riders by treating them to a sudden appearance of a Wing in their mirrors — followed by polite passes, of course. I’ve logged thousands of miles on dozens of different GL1800s and I know exactly how well they get down a road, twisty or straight. Until you’ve ground down a GL1800’s footpegs to half-length smoldering stubs, you’ve got nothing to say about how a Gold Wing supposedly cannot perform.

Honda Gold Wing footpegs ground down

That brings us to this 2021 Gold Wing Tour DCT, which is an impressively sporting, fun, and stylish package. It’s so good in so many ways it really outshines the early fifth-gen GL1800, a bike I love dearly. In my book, the sixth-gen’s main shortcoming is that its Hassock-style front end that lacks the delightful steering agility of its predecessor. And that nimble feel is what originally set the GL1800 apart from other big rigs. The 2021 may be 80 pounds lighter, but that benefit is largely offset by heavier steering and muted front-end feel and feedback.

Honda Gold Wing model timeline

I regret that loss, but then I’m a nut for steering agility. In the real world, for every rider with a sport orientation like mine, dozens more will line up for all of the comfort, convenience and technology features that make the latest Gold Wing Tour DCT such a sweet touring machine.

SIDEBAR: A Tale of Two Gold Wings

2003 2008 Honda Gold Wing GL1800

Motorcycle industry gurus talk about expanding the touring market with younger riders. But nobody seems to do anything about it. So I did.

Back in 2019, I had one motorcycle — my trusty Honda 919. My wife Katie had basically quit riding with me even though a pair of artificial hips let her hop on a backseat freely again. A GL1800 seemed a nonstarter. Yet next thing I knew, I owned not one but two Gold Wings.

How’s that? Well, we had invited the entire family to vacation with us in Tuscany last June, including motorcycle rides with a private guide. Sweet, huh? That commitment meant Katie needed seat time prior to Italy and a Wing in the garage would supply necessary incentive.

In November of 2019, I found a used 2003 GL1800 showing 29,000 miles. It was a cream puff, and for $5,500 it was a steal. Katie and I mounted up and she fell in love with riding all over again. Life was grand. And then COVID-19 hit. Even worse, serious health issues sidelined me for nearly all of that cursed year.

So I told my son-in-law Gregg (not Drevenstedt!) to come and take the Wing so my daughter Kristen could enjoy a break from the pillion of their Yamaha R6. Kristen had logged thousands of miles with me on Wings and Valkyries from her teen years onward, so she’d surely dig it. But to my surprise, Gregg immediately fell in love with the whole Wing thing and they headed out riding most weekends, having a blast. Months later, I’d feel like a heel by repossessing it. So I bought another GL1800, this time a 2008 for $7,800. And I gave them the ’03. Growing the touring segment one young couple at a time … for less money than that trip to Italy would’ve cost us! — KL

Ken, I just now skimmed your Gold Wing test ride story pretty darned quickly. That is until I got to the ground down foot pegs (Oh Yeah!) I then realized that you were a “real” motorcycle rider! Now, when I get a little more time, I’ll go back and read “the rest of the story”, and I’m looking forward to it. It’s good to read reports from a “real” motorcycle rider! My dad used to tell me stories of how he and his buddies ground the floorboards on their Harley’s. Now that he’s past, I joyfully carry on the tradition with my Road King. “If it ain’t scrapin’, ya ain’t turning”! -jp

I bought the first GL1000 to come in to my dealership, Cycle Center Honda in Fremont, CA. I was 19 when I ordered it (sight unseen) and 20 when I picked it up. I put about 80,000 miles on that GL over the next 4 years.

Today, I have a R1200RT in the garage. In the intervening years I have had a variety of touring bikes, including a 1981 CBX (gorgeous bike), K100RT and RS’, R100S and RS’, and ST1100.

The new Gold Wing is leaving me drooling as a 66-year-old biker.

Great story! My father-in-law gave me his ’99 Valkyrie Interstate in ’05 when illness ended his riding days. He was able to enjoy short rides around town for a few years after that on my little VLX Shadow. In those days my commute to work was my ’98 Concours.

Great article, Ken! I’ve been considering the latest gen Goldwing purchase (sans passenger accommodations, as I’m a solo rider) Your in-depth review and personal history with the ‘wing may have just swayed me to make the purchase. Not really a fan of auto trans for low speed maneuvers though. I’ll stick with a clutch. As usual, Honda got it right!

I purchased a 2021 DCT and had it three (3) weeks and I hated it, so I sold it. This bike couldn’t compare with my 2008 or my 2013. I dislike this bile with it having small windshield, more wind, very poor GPS, less storge. When I sold this 2021, I went out an purchased a 2015 Goldwing and once again I am happy as a pig in heaven. The only thing I liked about the 2021, was the DCT.

Two goldwings for around d13 grand or one for 29 grand, simple economic s

You sound like a great Dad giving your kids a Goldwing. Sounds like a person I know Ha Ha. Enjoy your ride and becareful thanks for the review!

I’ve always wondered why Honda can’t engineer maintenance-free valve gear on the Gold Wing.

I’m on the fence again about my next bike. I’m on a K1200LT and love it for the handle more than anything else. To hear it’s a bit vague on the latest GL has me concerned. My wife must be comfortable, and she certainly is on the LT which is why I’ve been a bit hesitant on the K1600GTL, passenger comfort has been compromised. She’s not a fan of the previous gen GL looks, but that could be worked on. I have much to consider now! Thanks for a great article!

Thanks for a great review. How does this sixth-gen bike compare to the latest K1600GTL or Grand America?

We did a comparison test of the sixth-gen Gold Wing and the BMW K 1600 GTL in 2018: https://ridermagazine.com/2018/04/27/2018-bmw-k-1600-gtl-vs-honda-gold-wing-tour-comparo-review/

Great article Ken. I’ve owned 3 5th generation wings and now ride a 2018. I agree 100% with your assessments with 2 exceptions. The new front suspension is way better then the old traditional forks. The old bike’s forks flexed and were way under sprung and dampened. The new forks feel solid and ride so much better. You failed to mention the much smaller saddle bags on the 2018+. They are good for a weekend two up. We solved the storage problem with a Unigo trailer. Ride on!

Bring back the ST1300, updated with DCT or 6 speed manual. Cruise control and heated grips please. Some of us Honda fans still struggle with the idea of a 900 pound couch at $28k+.

2021 valve or rocker arm noise right bank too loud only 150 miles –anyone havingh same issue?

2021 goldwing dct wandering if anyone has the same issue

I traded my 2013 Goldwing in for a 2021 Goldwing DCT and I hated this motorcyle and I traded it back to the dealer and purchased a 2015 and I am so happy now The 2021 Honda was junk, but I did like the DCT.

Very well presented. Every quote was awesome and thanks for sharing the content. Keep sharing and keep motivating others.

Purchase a 2023 day GW yesterday put 100 km on it and returned it the next day. What terrible transmission. Come on guys you can realy like this. Get a clutch or got ride your mobility scooter. Just don’t see the hype

PIGS ON THE WING: A TRIBUTE TO PINK FLOYD

“ …(Pigs on the Wing)  is fearless when experimenting with sound in the proper temperament of psychedelia”  –  David Victor, TOP TEN PINK FLOYD TRIBUTE BANDS 2/27/23

“Capturing what made Pink Floyd iconic is a hard thing to do, and Pigs on the Wing come as close as anyone we’ve heard. That looming mystique, that inscrutable grandiosity……Those qualities are alive and well with Pigs on the Wing.”

 – Adam McKinney, OLY ARTS 5/10/17

wing tour

From its garage-rock roots in 2006 as a one-off show, to full album productions and performing for thousands of fans each year, Portland Oregon based Pigs on the Wing have built a loyal following dedicated to the band’s high energy take on Pink Floyd’s music.  All members of Pigs on the Wing are seasoned veterans of the Pacific NW rock scene and are unapologetic in bringing their wide-ranging musical influences to the table.  Setting the band aside from other tribute rock acts, Pigs on the Wing balance a decidedly un-tribute-like attitude towards the music with precision to detail and a deep understanding of the importance of Pink Floyd’s music in many fans’ lives.

wing tour

A mongst the band’s accomplishments, Pigs on the Wing has in recent years featured full album performances of The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall and was recently ranked the #4 Pink Floyd tribute worldwide .  None are bigger fans of the work of Pink Floyd than the members of Pigs on the Wing themselves, a dedication which has been foremost in the band’s approach since the very beginning.

Pigs on the Wing’s 2024-2025 tour, “ Echoes of Pink Floyd ”,  is a second act to the band’s previous year’s tour. As before, the Echoes of Pink Floyd tour will feature a new selection of the very best of classic-era Pink Floyd cuts organized into 2 distinct sets.  Rather than performing a single album from start to end, expect to hear the band focus on their favorite sections of the classic albums, including hits, deep cuts, and the band’s trademark willingness to explore the sonic space in experimental improvisation.   Fans can expect an immersive visual show in a don’t-miss event for any Pink Floyd fan!

Pigs on the Wing is : Eric Welder (bass / vocals); Matt Jones ( keys / vocals); Bryan Fairfield ( drums); Holly Brooks ( vocals); Dave Lindenbaum ( guitar / vocals) Jason Baker ( guitar / vocals); Matt Sulikowski (sax)

Italy's deputy premier Matteo Salvini faces a potential 6-year prison sentence in migration trial

ROME (AP) — Italian prosecutors on Saturday requested a six-year prison sentence for right-wing League leader Matteo Salvin i for his decision to prevent more than 100 migrants from landing in Italy when he was interior minister in 2019. If convicted Salvini could be barred from holding government office.

The prosecutors in the city of Palermo have accused Salvini — who’s currently deputy premier and transport minister in the right-wing government led by Giorgia Meloni — of alleged kidnapping for leaving a migrant rescue ship operated by charity Open Arms stranded at sea for 19 days.

During the 2019 standoff, some of the migrants threw themselves overboard in desperation as the captain pleaded for a safe, close port. The remaining 89 people onboard were eventually allowed to disembark in Lampedusa by a court order.

“I would do it all again: defending borders from illegal immigrants is not a crime,” Salvini said on his social media on Saturday.

His lawyer, Giulia Bongiorno, will make her defense statement in Palermo on Oct. 18, and a first sentence could come by the end of the month. A conviction – which in Italy is definitive only at the end of a three-stage judicial process -- could bar Salvini from holding government office.

Meloni and several ministers of her government expressed solidarity with the League leader, defending his decisions. Since she stepped into power in 2022, Meloni has pledged a crackdown on migration , aiming to deter would-be refugees from paying smugglers to make the dangerous Mediterranean crossing.

“It is incredible that a minister of the Italian Republic risks six years in prison for doing his job defending the nation’s borders, as required by the mandate received from its citizens,” the Italian premier wrote on X.

Salvini maintained a hard line on migration in his tenure as interior minister in the first government of Premier Giuseppe Conte, from 2018-2019.

He imposed a “closed ports” policy under which Italy refused entry to charity ships that rescued migrants in distress across the Mediterranean and repeatedly accused humanitarian organizations of effectively encouraging people smuggling.

Remarks by Vice President Joe Biden and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin

The White House Moscow, Russia

12:46 P.M. (Local)

PRIME MINISTER PUTIN: (As translated.)  Mr. Vice President -- (inaudible) -- there are quite a few things to enjoy in Moscow.  And you haven't been here for quite a while.  Since you've been here last time, and over this period of time, Moscow and Russia has changed a lot, and for the better I might add.

VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN:  I would agree.

PRIME MINISTER PUTIN:  (As translated.)  You might be interested in getting to know Russia better, visiting other sights and cities.  And on top of that, the relationship between our two countries has been developing quite well.  Last year, the (inaudible) Russia has grown by 29 percent.

Turning -- we have completed several important things, including seeding for and verification of START III, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.  And the major American companies are doing business in Russia and are doing well.  To name a few, General Electric, Boeing and Chevron -- virtually all the biggest companies are here.

And it is especially pleasing for us to witness the rise of the presence of big Russian investments between -- again, we are very pleased and very thankful to you for the fact that this has been -- (inaudible) -- and very sensitive areas such as I referred to earlier, use of nuclear energy.  And I'm pleased with the fact that all of it has been passed through the procedures of the Foreign Investment Commission, and we are grateful for you for that to happen.

Again, it was very obvious to see the (inaudible) between the U.S. and Russian people is on the right track.

Currently, we are in the process of negotiating the possibility of the visa-free exchange between Russia and the countries of the European Union.  The fact of the matter is, the U.S. enjoys this visa-free regime of exchange with virtually all of those countries in Europe.

This will be an important step in development of the Russia-U.S. relationship if we work first to introduce this visa-free regime of exchange between U.S.-Russia rather than European Union and Russia.

VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN:  Good idea.

PRIME MINISTER PUTIN:  (As translated.)  Let's look to break all the outdated stereotypes concerning Russia and the U.S.  Thus we have turned over a very substantial part of our history during this stage and we have started to have everything new.  That would support absolutely before the -- in the relationship between Russia and the U.S.

And with this positive relation on your part, Distinguished Mr. Vice President, such an important person in the U.S. administration with clout (inaudible).

VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN:  Mr. Prime Minister, in case you haven't noticed, there's a real difference between being President and Vice President.  The very good news is the President and I agree 100 percent on the need to continue to establish a closer and closer relationship.

That's why the very first foreign policy annunciation our administration made was when I made the speech in Munich that it was time to push the reset button and change the atmosphere.

I would view the previous eight years -- did not take advantage of the opportunities that exist for both our countries.  It does not really matter how -- it's in our self-interest and I hope in the self-interest of Russia to have our relationship grow.

I've made one observation the last two years, when other countries around the globe have a problem they either go to Moscow or Washington.  They don't want to go to the other capitals.

We have an opportunity to build on this over the years.  Not only on New START, cooperation in Afghanistan, cooperation on drugs, cooperation in -- a whole range of other areas -- now is the time to focus on the economy.

You mentioned Boeing; yesterday, I met with a group of American and Russian CEOs -- conference.  A Russian -- the chairman of a Russian organization, I'll not state it, said that there was reason for American companies to be here because the markets are here and named some other reasons why it was in the interest of American companies.

The chairman of Boeing USA in Russia said, I beg to disagree with my friend.  He said the market in China for aircraft is seven times bigger.  He said let me tell you why we're here.  Russia has the best engineers in the world.  Russia has intellectual capital.  Russia is a great nation.  Your titanium lets the planes fly that you buy.

PRIME MINISTER PUTIN:  (As translated.)  Allow me to make a point, we have the largest in the world engineering center here in Moscow.

VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN:  There's a reason.  Mr. Prime Minister, I've been around a long time.  The first time I was here -- the second time I was here, I was here meeting with President Brezhnev.  We were trying to pass SALT II --

Laura Loomer: Who is conspiracy theorist travelling with Trump?

The presence of hard-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer alongside Donald Trump on the campaign trail in recent days has raised questions, including from some Republicans, about the influence the controversial former congressional candidate may have on him.

Ms Loomer is well-known for her anti-Muslim rhetoric and for spreading conspiracy theories, including that the 9/11 attacks were an "inside job" carried out by the US government.

She joined Trump at an event on Wednesday commemorating the attacks, raising eyebrows and prompting outrage in some US media outlets.

And on Tuesday, the 31-year-old travelled to Philadelphia on board Trump's plane for the presidential debate in the city.

Perhaps the most memorable moment of that debate came when Trump repeated a baseless claim that illegal immigrants from Haiti have been eating domestic pets in a small Ohio city. "They are eating the pets of the people that live there," he said.

City officials later told BBC Verify that there have been “no credible reports" this has actually happened.

Trump said he was repeating claims he had heard on television, but the theory was aired by Ms Loomer just a day before the debate. On Monday, the fringe pundit and social media influencer repeated the claims to her 1.2m followers on X.

While the level of access Ms Loomer has to Trump is unclear, and his running mate JD Vance has also spread the baseless theory , Ms Loomer's post and her presence in Philadelphia has led some Republicans to blame her for the former president making the unfounded claim on stage.

An anonymous source close to the Trump campaign told US news outlet Semafor that they were "100%" concerned about Ms Loomer's proximity to Trump.

“Regardless of any guardrails the Trump campaign has put on her, I don’t think it’s working,” the source was quoted as saying.

A number of senior Republican politicians have also publicly criticised Ms Loomer and cautioned against Trump bringing her into his inner circle.

"Laura Loomer is a crazy conspiracy theorist who regularly utters disgusting garbage intended to divide Republicans," North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

"A DNC [Democratic National Committee] plant couldn't do a better job than she is doing to hurt President Trump's chances of winning re-election," Mr Tillis added.

Speaking at a news conference in California on 13 September, Trump said only that Ms Loomer is "a supporter" and that he was unaware of recent comments she made about Harris, or her comments about 9/11.

“I don’t control Laura. Laura has to say what she wants. She’s a free spirit," he added

Ms Loomer did not respond to several requests for comment from the BBC.

But on Twitter/X, she said that she operates "independently" to help Trump, who she referred to as "truly our nation's last hope".

"To the many reporters who are calling me and obsessively asking me to talk to them today, the answer is no," she wrote. "I am very busy working on my stories and investigations and don’t have time to entertain your conspiracy theories."

Born in Arizona in 1993, the self-styled investigative journalist has worked as an activist and commentator for organisations including Project Veritas and Alex Jones's Infowars.

In 2020, she ran - with Trump's support - as a Republican candidate for the US House of Representatives in Florida, but lost to Democrat Lois Frankel.

She tried again two years later, when she unsuccessfully ran to unseat Representative Daniel Webster in a Republican primary in a different Florida district.

Now, she is known for her vocal support of Trump and for promoting a long string of conspiracy theories including claims that Kamala Harris is not black, and that the son of billionaire George Soros was sending cryptic messages calling for Trump's assassination.

These posts led her to be banned from a number of platforms including Facebook, Instagram and even, according to her, Uber and Lyft for making offensive comments about Muslim drivers. She once described herself as a “proud Islamophobe”.

Ms Loomer frequently attends events in support of Trump and has been seen previously at his Florida residence Mar-a-Lago.

Earlier this year, she travelled on his plane to Iowa where she was given a shout-out by him on stage at an event. “You want her on your side," Trump said. The former president has also shared several of her videos on Truth Social.

And last year, the New York Times reported that Trump had expressed an interest in hiring her for his campaign, relenting only after top aides expressed concern that she could damage his electoral efforts.

“Everyone who works for him thinks she’s a liability,” one Trump aide said of Ms Loomer in a report in NBC News in January.

Another outspoken Trump supporter, Marjorie Taylor Greene, took issue with Ms Loomer this week over her comments questioning Harris's race and a post in which she said the White House "will smell like curry" if Harris - who is partly of Indian descent - is elected.

Greene said Ms Loomer's comments were "appalling and extremely racist" and did "not represent who we are as Republicans or MAGA" - prompting a flurry of furious messages in her direction.

This feud in Trump's orbit played out just a day after Ms Loomer appeared at events with Trump commemorating the anniversary of 9/11 in New York and Pennsylvania.

Asked about her attendance there by the Associated Press, she said she did not work for the campaign and was "invited as a guest".
